We did a few car crushes and bar crawls then flogged it .imperial defence

      @@Qspecialman I think it's the tyres that cripple them, good for blasting down the autobahn at 110, useless on bad surfaces. I'll stick to my '86 110 on military Michelins, although it could give the RR a run for its money in the unreliability stakes.

      A friend and I had a friendly rivalry, at the time he had a series 2 Land Rover with new tyres and I had a WW2 Willys Jeep with 4 bald tyres. That Jeep used to leave the LR stuck at the bottom of slippery slopes in a cloud of smoke The Jeep was unstoppable.

    • @jonh9561
      @jonh9561 10 місяців тому +3

      @@robmurg You're quite correct, its the tyres that are the issue. I see more Land/Range Rovers and other 4x4s with road going tyres as opposed to off-road tyres or even dual purpose tyres. The performance of any 4X4 cannot be properly assessed that are fitted with low profile, road tread tyres. P.S. I'd rather have your 86 110, I have an 89, 130 Land Rover Defender, which I rebuilt and brought to Australia in 2000 and to say that it's done a lot of work is an understatement, but it is still going strong and only owes me for servicing, a thermostat, brakes and batteries!

    I see you like those Bundeswehr Tanker coveralls. I used them for riding motorbike in winter. They have a removable artificial fur liner.

    NOT the range rover! It might break down old chap, and that would be a bad show! Imagine having a Hawker Hunter sitting around in your paddock LoL.

    A Range Rover in a seriously muddy field with stupid low-profile highway tyres - what do you expect? Having said that, could he not lower the suspension? Oh, the tank! Yes, top job lads - it looks in pretty good nick now you've got the mud out of the gear selector.

    I flew one of those Harvard trainers last year for a 60th birthday present. Think a ride in that chieftain would be more exciting!

    My Rugby club used to have a sharp sand training pit at the end of the car park. One day a Range Rover lakes on the sand and promptly dug itself in. Low range tick-over just dug in more slowly. Had to be towed out.
