In fact, Taiwan's president, in an interview with CNN, talked about Taiwan's strategy.
“What we are expecting is, after withstanding the first wave of Chinese attacks ourselves, the rest of the world would stand up to exert strong pressure on China,” she said.
So it's basically the same strategy as Ukraine.

Both Chinese and Taiwanese identities are valid and not mutually exclusive. The more critical question is whether you prefer to be governed by an authoritarian communist regime or a democratically elected government.
I find it strange that people equate being Chinese with the country of China and the authoritarian communist regime of the CCP. These are not the same. One can be Chinese and still desire a democratically elected government. The CCP is merely a governing body and does not represent the Chinese people or their culture. Chinese people who immigrate to the U.S. remain culturally Chinese, even though they have a different passport and align with a different government. This distinction is just basic critical thinking.
The CCP has been waging a disinformation campaign to confuse people, positioning itself as the de facto governing body of the "Chinese people." This is similar to the Pope wielding guns and nuclear bombs.

  • @bearowen5480
    @bearowen5480 10 днів тому +11

The most important and obvious difference between the Ukraine War and a potential invasion of Taiwan is that Taiwan is an island. An attempt to take control of Taiwan by military force would require an amphibious invasion of the island. In Ukraine, all the Russians were required to do was roll their vehicles and troops across a flatland border using existing roads and infrastructure. An amphibious invasion of Taiwan or any other island nation, or for that matter across any seacost, is at least an order of magnitude more difficult than a land warfare invasion.
Since the debacle at Gallipoli in WWI, the only nation that has conducted successful amphibious operations has been the United States, sometimes with allies, sometimes not. It has taken the United States Navy and Marine Corps team over a hundred years of intensive experimentation and practical experience to develop the highly specialized vessels, ship-to-shore air and sea craft, weapons and tactics required to successfully conduct such a very complex and difficult operation. The Chinese are trying to develop this capability by copying US methods and tactics, but its doubtful that they will have it sooner than ten, and more likely twenty years from now.
The greatest safeguard against an amphibious invasion of Taiwan is that US and Allied attack submarines and submarine-laid mines would devastate any Chinese amphibious forces long before they could reach Taiwan. A formidable dormant sub-surface marine minefield may indeed already be in place, waiting only for an activating signal to arm them to protect all seaborne avenues of approach to Taiwan. Trying to pass an amphibious fleet with its escorts through Allied or American fast attack submarine screens and sub-surface minefields would constitute a monumental suicide mission by the Chinese invaders. For the submarine forces of the defenders it would be a repeat of the Marianas Turkey Shoot in 1944. For submariners, it would like be shooting fish in a barrel.
So, I think Zhi and his naval general staff are fully aware of the foolhardiness of attempting an amphibious invasion of Taiwan. Any threatening talk coming out of China about taking Taiwan by force is just so much bluff and bluster designed to intimidate the Taiwanese government and people into capitulating to the PRC's demands for unification.

Sea drones are a high danger for any bigger ship even hundreds of miles away. And Taiwan should be able to produce some better versions (e.g. sleeping drones right under the surface, only waiting for awaking). Another thing is, that Taiwan is easily able to cut off any sea freight from China by such drones, subs etc. Ony two or three sunken container vessels are enough that no insurance will ever protect their owners.

2.: There was no supplies for any invasion, not even a 3 day SMO, there was only supplies for the local camps close to the borders.

Over the past decade, there were never an immediate threat to China imposed by Taiwan, or an immediate profit for China to annex Taiwan, or the gain for China if it decides to invade anyway is not equal to the risk. It has nothing to do at all with Russia-Ukraine war, because those consideration was already happening even if Russia-Ukraine war didnt happen. If anything, I'd argue that as a state, this a great time to invade Taiwan in the heat of Russia-Ukraine war, where all eyes focused there PLUS the reignited international sensation of Israel-Hamas war. • @ancova1183
      @ancova1183 10 днів тому +1

Not really guilty, but it comes from treaties and relationship with the Yuan and Qing Emperors. Essentially, when the Mongols conquered Tibet and the rest of Asia in 1254, the Dalai Lama became the spiritual advisor to the Khan (who then became the Yuan emperors). They largely retained autonomy because of Tibet's geography, although they did have a secular governor. This relationship continued for the Qing dynasty, and they were considered a protectorate of China.
The Dalai Lama maintains that they are the sovereign leader of Tibet and that they are in a priest-and-patron relationship with the Chinese leader; whereas China interprets the relationship with Tibet being a vassal state.
It's a simplification, but you can compare it to the Byzantine Papacy between Beijing (Byzantium) and Lhasa (Rome), but for Buddhism.

It's not really any different than when Ruzzia went into Crimea. China claimed Tibet as theirs & the world so afraid of another World War looked the other way. If Ukraine hadn't fought so well & brave that first month while the world watched Taiwan, it would have already been attacked. The West only sent in aid "for defense only" after the initial defense and has only trickle fed Ukraine ever since. It's only after over 2 years of fighting that it looks like the West will finally give Ukraine enough to actually kick ruzzia out & win. Don't get me wrong, I don't want a WW3 but sometimes you have to fight. When the west let China & ruzzia take over territories & countries without any backlash (little sanctions don't count), all it did was empower the world's bully nations to do the same or more. Threats of repercussions mean nothing if you don't follow through.

On one side, the Chinese are not completely wrong - the dawn of Taiwan was more of a Chinese internal affair that they seem to suggest nowadays, but it was indeed a breakaway province.
On the other, they seem pretty naïve in ignoring that there is such thing as a "speciation of nation-states" - long term political division leading to cultural and procedural differences that makes a reunion unlikely if not outright impossible.
A sizeable part of currently existing states - all of Africa, all of South America, all of North America, Australia, New Zealand, Cuba, Vietnam and many more that I probably forget - have been, at some point, just a "breakaway part" of another state/kingdom/empire.
And yet, nobody expects the French to insist on getting back Algeria or to be asked to condone Spain , should that country state the long term military and political objective of restoring its dominion over Morocco.
The only instance in which such a reunion of a "breakaway province" has happened, that I know of, is in Germany... but there was a host of favourable, unique circumstances, first among whom:
    - The isolation of the two countries was a relatively short affair, a bit more than thirty years if we start counting from when the Berlin Wall was built and, thus, the people actually separated.
    - The division was felt as actively enforced by external forces, in the form not of "invisible conspiracies" but of actual, foreign tanks and troops stationed on the terrain.
    - The East Germany government was a spectacularly inept and authoritarian one that had managed to thoroughly sabotage the perception of its own legitimacy, among its country's people, way before a reunion was thought as possible.
    So, yes.
Taiwan WAS a Chinese breakaway province.
In 1949 - it was 75 years ago.
    History marches on.

No, rather than scared off by the Ukraine war, China has been forewarned & strategies amended. If China thinks they are about to lose Taiwan it will invade, though their first choice is for a non military unification. It is true that it may be more difficult than they originally thought.
However that work both ways, the difficulties highlighted by the Ukraine war would reduce support in the West for a war with China over Taiwan. Moreover Europeans don't see the Ukraine & Taiwan in the same way. Whilst the West is supporting Ukraine, you can also see how cautious they approach the war.
Militarily only USA has the resources for such a war but even it will find it hard to sustain a long war, especially if it had to support Ukraine & Israel at the same time. Moreover the logistics favour China & unlike Ukraine, Taiwan can be blockaded.

US nuclear subs will prevent China from taking Taiwan. Also a vastly superior Air Force and Navy, plus cooperation from Japan, Australia, and other allies in the region who do not want to see a PRC hegemony militarily in the region to go with their economic one. Mainland China would be crazy to start a war with the USA and its Indo-Pacific allies (India could very well jump in too, as they have a deep interest in China NOT controlling the sea routes more than they do. The best thing China can do is to continue economic growth and development (if possible), and to make nice with their neighbors, not throw their weight around and try to be the neighborhood bully. That’s aa dangerous neighborhood to try to bully. While the US is polarized in its resolve to back Ukraine (unfortunately), there is no question that both parties would cooperate to send whatever is needed to keep Taiwan from being subsumed. As the video says, technological and economic progress absolutely require that Taiwan remains free.

@@dukeon 1st, Taiwan is legally part of China, even USA don't dispute that, & if you truly believe something is yours you never give up from reclaiming it. Moreover the CCP has general public support for this. So China is highly motivated & has high public support, certainly more motivated than USA & its reluctant allies & with unclear public support. India involvement is undependable.
2nd, China has virtually unlimited ability to blockade Taiwan from the mainland. In fact, it don't even have to fire a single missile, just announced the intention & most if not all civilian air & sea will cease, certainly insurers for freight will stay away. Remember, US systems may be better than China's, but quantity has a quality of its own, given US systems are all ship based, their total capacity is limited. And now we know drones will play a significant role & China can launch these from the mainland.
3rd, it will be very difficult for USA to maintain a large fleet on a war footing far from home ports for months if not years. China don't have this problem.
4th, China's action is against Taiwan, not the US. It will not go after US Naval assets unnecessarily. The US will be the one who has to decide whether to (a) engage China's weapons send against Taiwan & (b) whether it will engage China in the mainland, I doubt it will, it doesn't even dare send NATO troops into Ukraine. I'm guessing it will need Congressional approval for this.

I remember seeing a TNO HOI4 fanfic that talked about this sort of thing in an alternate timeline. It was a pretty interesting read. I wish I could have remembered the title of it.. What needed up happening in the final act was that Taiwan, with assistance from the U.S. and Japan, invaded the mainland of China through the east coast and threatened to drop nuclear bombs on Beijing. Eventually, the fictional president of China was forced to surrender, and Taiwan ended up being given control of Hong Kong, Macau, Nanjing, Manchuria, and also ended up taking the complete island of Fujian as well. I thought it was quite a realistic take inspite of the crazy hypothetical..

Taiwan does not need to declare independence.
ROC in Taiwan has always been separate and independent from the PRC.

theres a reason why both ROC and PRC has a special department to communicate with each other instead of using foreign ministry.

True! But the West would be damaged too. There are plenty of videos on here showing how life is pretty much normal in Russia after sanctions, but Western countries have suffered. The thing with China is, it is the largest producer of goods on the planet, whereas the United States are the largest consumers of goods. So the US and China pretty much go hand in hand at this rate.

Nah, the way things are going these past weeks, a Chinese invasion of Taiwan seems distant and unlikely. The one and only potential flashpoint is between China and the Philippines where escalations amplify the likelihood that something is bound to go wrong somewhere. The current economic status of China calls for a resource grab, and that is what it is doing in the EEZs of its Southeast Asian neighbors. Taiwan is way too risky.

Taiwan played a good game, getting the USA invested with their microchip business, now they are too important, and china needs to prepare to be without those chips before they can launch an invasion, taiwan has already stated that the fabs can be destoryed long before the PRC will have any hopes of seizing them. in my opinion one of the best things taiwan did that is not strategically important was to secure artifacts and classical artworks, had taiwan not taken them mao would have saw them destroyed by his army of indoctrinated children. History and culture are important and so much was lost, but so much more would have been lost if not for taiwan taking it and protecting it.

One important aspect that was not discussed here was the fact that Ukraine and Russia share the same border on land. If China was to invade, getting soldiers across a 100 mile ocean is an ominous undertaking. The boats that would carry these soldiers would be sitting ducks for the hardware that the US is currently supplying to Taiwan. The logistics of an invasion would be difficult to say the least.
