These surrounding Southeast Asian countries need to learn not to fall for the lies of the United States of America. The country of Georgia in the Caucasus region was the first to make that mistake, in thinking that United States military would have their back in any conflict with Russia over the separatist areas of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Now the Georgians have to deal with the endless creeping annexation with ethnic Georgians find out the next morning to be part of Russia. The next fool to believe that United States had their back was Ukraine that were manipulated into war and had to deal with their war effort undermined by the MAGA faction of the Republican party. Its in their best interest to cut a deal rather than fight and die pointless death.

fun fact vietnam used to be apart of china but after nearly a dozen notable battles for independence, finally manged to do so in the 1200's under a man named le loi. he is one of the leaders in Age of empires II too hehe. afterwards theyd fall in/out of china's rule but always remained a vassal state, along with korea. japan, korea china and vietnam all made up historic east asia, until more recent a few centuries ago they conquered a country called champa, because china, as usual, would persuede neighboring countries to attack vietnam so they could once again be under china's rule but vietnam would end up winning and taking their lands, giving us the country they have today. So due to that, vietnam had transitioned to geographically becoming a southeast asian country, but culturally it remains east asian.

Vietnam and Indonesia should trade more with each other and with other ASEAN Countries like the Philippines and Thailand while reducing trade with China.

ASEAN has the potential to be a strong military alliance, and oddly, Australia could be the glue that holds it together.
What they SHOULD do but to this point have not done is that place their territorial disputes between each other aside so as to unite against China.
For example. Vietnam does not have a dispute with any other member over the Paracel Islands. So, it would be good if Vietnam hosted an ASEAN join base in those Islands as a first line defense against Red China.

Indonesian here. Let me make it clear.
Us Indonesian don't like both China and USA. Because of this, when we dealing with both country, we didn't do it because we are liking that country.
We are friendly with China because they are good partner in economy, but that doesn't mean we see them as friend. We are friendly with USA because they are good partner in deffense, but that doesn't mean we see them as an ally.
Our relationship to both China and USA are the relationship of FRIENEMY. Both country are friend at something, but also enemy for other thing.
We will always put our self OUTSIDE of both China and USA's sphere of Influence.
We will accept Chinese economic deal, USA's military deal, but we won't do what they say. Because we are not their pion. We didn't see our self as less superior than them. We see our self as EQUAL to them.
The only country we can truly see as friend, ally and sibling are the ASEAN member states. Outside of it, just pure bussiness.
That's because in our geopolitical view, we split the world into four realm.
First realm is our own teritory. This is where our main focus exist.
Second realm are ASEAN member states. This is countries we are see and treat as Family.
Third realm are countries that bordering the second realm. We give extra attention to them because they can influencing our "Family"

No, you're looking at it wrong. The PRC was not opportunistically invading Vietnam whilst it's troops were in Cambodia. That's a weird crazy spin. Not what actually happened.
China was actually trying to protect the Khmer Rouge. They invaded Vietnam in the hope that Vietnam would pull it's troops from Cambodia, and leave their ally alone. The USSR, seeing how well that worked out, decided against invading China to get the PLA to leave Vietnam.
Deng had promised both the USA and USSR prior to invading Vietnam that they were conducting only a small limited war. When Vietnam refused to withdraw from Cambodia and simply let China take their northern cities, China gave up and went home. It is likely that the USSR told Vietnam what China was up to.
You haven't even heard the crazy bit yet. Vietnam was allied to the USSR, and the Khmer Rouge to China. China was moving from the Soviet camp to the US side at the time. The US and ASEAN was siding with China at the time. You know how the US viewed Vietnam at the time. ASEAN (where I live), we saw Vietnam as the greater danger and the more evil communists than China. Overall, those wars resulted in victory for the Soviet/Vietnam side and defeat for the US/China/ASEAN faction. For decades after that we continued to support guerrillas fighting Vietnam and their Cambodian puppets/protectorate.
After the USSR imploded, people started to retcon everything.

It appears that this video is trying to understand the SEA region rather than offering insight into it. The region makes itself both secure and prosperous by balancing the (major) powers, which were US and USSR during the cold war and US and China in current time. SEA countries also don't want to make an alliance among themselves, military or otherwise, since alliances only create tensions externally and reduce the member states' sovereignty. In relation to that, Indonesia is the co-founder of the (now defunct) non-aligned movement started back in the '50s.

@@davidford3115 Why do we want to push China out? Those are just rocks in the middle of the ocean. I thought the US held the position that mere uninhabitable rocks in the middle of the ocean do not confer territorial sovereignty to any country. No territorial waters, not EEZ, which is the reason for the US conducting all those _freedom of navigation_ stuff.
The oil under the sea is not inexhaustible. They would be gone after a decade or two of pumping. And the fish too. I think ASEAN can easily settle this between themselves and come to an agreement with China over how to divide/share the resources there.
Feels to me like the US doesn't want it settled. Like how Trump doesn't want problems in the southern border fixed, because he want to use it to criticize Biden. The US want to keep the problems in the Spratlys alive and use it to poke China. And China wants to keep US warships out like a thousand km or two away from their coasts.

      @danielch6662 19 днів тому +5

You've been told a lie. Ukraine never had those nukes. The nukes were inside Ukrainian territory. But they were not under Ukrainian government control. If Ukraine's government had tried to push the matter and take direct operational control, it's a toss-up if the units actually deployed with the nukes would have listened or would have gone over to Russia.
Ukraine's government never pushed the matter, because Russia and the US both worked together and convinced them to give up the nukes. After the agreement was signed and the nukes were on the way to being dismantled or transferred to Russia, the rocket armies were given the option to sign up with Ukraine or transfer to Russia. The vast majority of the senior career officers all chose Russia.
Another thing you have not considered is the fact that it is expensive to maintain and keep nukes operational. You don't just stick them in silos for 30 years and hope that they will work when you need them. They wouldn't work. Ukraine in the 1990s was poor and had neither the industrial nor financial capacity to maintain the nukes. In fact all of the FSU countries that had nukes on their territory gave them up and sent them to Russia. It was not Ukraine alone that had nukes deployed on its territory. Ukraine got into the news because they held off on signing the agreement to dispose of their nukes hoping to extract more concessions from the US and Russia. There was no question of using those nukes to defend from a Russian invasion because nobody even thought of it at the time. Kravchuk and Kuchma were both pretty tight with Russia.

And South Korea isn't an island state, nor necessarily completely sovereign. To go to war with the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and Australia requires naval power sea warefare capabilities across the South China Sea and the North-West Pacific and inter-island seas of Indonesia, which is great area and a colossal venture. The PLAN does not firstly have the capital ships to undergo this ambitious venture (it's carriers are untried, untested and riddled with machinery, warplane and personnel problems), and it's capital ships are not nuclear powered. Their destroyers are capable (although not the best that NATO has to offer). Secondly, it has outflanking issues (much the same as the Pacific War with Janpanese bases, such as Rabaul, being outflanked). Thirdly, more than 70% of China's petroluem comes from the Middle East. A route that India alone can easily blockade. Forthly, Japan is the third largest and powerful navy in the world with well-trained personnel and advanced warships. Thus, engaging in a coalition war with these nations will not guarantee a long-term victory to China.

From the surface, it looks like the Indonesian are playing the game with such a simple premise: having great partnership with China in economy sector while maintaining strategic defence & security partnership with US and its Western allies. Reality is of course more complicated, but the Indonesian are the proponent of Non-bloc movement and they’ve been quite consistant operating in this principal for decades

We need to address the name of South Ch**. Sea (South East Asia Sea) cuz that sea never, for once, belonged to China. Not before, not now n not future.

The video have so many wrong info, like at 3:00 when they said China captured and hold the Spratly islands in 1980s; The actual situation is mixed with Vietnam still hold most of the islands, with Chinese and Malaysia, Philipine hold a handful of these.

@@didierduplantier8359 The leader of Cambodia today is the same guy that Vietnam placed in power 30 years ago when Vietnam deposed the Khmer Rouge government. Cambodia has since tried to balance between China and Vietnam, but has drifted a bit to China's side simply because China's economy has grown so much faster than Vietnam's.
That China has not annexed Laos and Myanmar makes me skeptical of the western claim that China is this expansionist country that is trying to gobble up all its neighbours. Like you said, Laos has now fallen completely into China's economic sphere, but China has not done anything to take over political control.
If China were to annex Laos tomorrow, nobody is going to lift a finger to object. If China were to annex Myanmar, it would have a port directly in the Indian Ocean. If China does not feel a need to annex these two, I think there is no chance that they will annex anybody else. The countries surrounding China will eventually end up in a situation like Canada and Mexico find themselves, adjacent to this huge giant next door. Nobody wants to end up like Cuba.

You’re off by a year. Hun Sen stepped down in 2023.
China has already acquired the Ream naval base and Sihanoukville as their own enclave, so there isn’t much else they want in Cambodia. Laos doesn’t have much to offer, so there is no need to annex it. Myanmar is a different story. Like you’ve said, annexing Myanmar will give them a solution to the Malacca dilemma, thus the current destabilizing situation in that country is possibly being orchestrated by China.
China’s neighbors probably would content to acquiesce to China’s dominance if they can benefit economically from China. However, the current situation in the South China Sea is not conducive to that outcome. The Philippines has already found out that playing nice with China won’t stop China from squeezing them out of their EEZ.
