@ 1:56 Most of the $32.4 billion spent by the Department of Energy is spent on providing the plutonium and tritium and initiators needed to manufacture nuclear weapons, and guarding and maintaining existing nuclear weapons. The DOE handles most of the production of the weapons and then hands them over to the military to deploy them. To quote from the May 7, 2024 Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists: "In this issue of the Nuclear Notebook, we estimate that the United States maintains a stockpile of approximately 3,708 warheads-an unchanged estimate from the previous year. Of these, only about 1,770 warheads are deployed, while approximately 1,938 are held in reserve. Additionally, approximately 1,336 retired warheads are awaiting dismantlement, giving a total inventory of approximately 5,044 nuclear warheads." IOW, there are more nukes not deployed than actually are deployed, and the DOE has to handle those 3274 weapons very, very carefully.

  • @ZekeRaiden

Your final note in the video is the real problem: internal division. I think there's a significant concern that at least one of the US's enemies could easily exploit the political and cultural conflict inside the US to promote a domestic terrorist movement all the way up to a full-blown civil war. At that point, allies might be torn between which faction to support, or might "stay out of an internal conflict," and enemies could send "peacekeeping" forces that could instead specifically support their favored civil war faction. Add in an armed civilian body, and the possibility of splitting the military into two self-destructive factions. You might have different factions controlling food supply vs military production.
Suddenly, half the impressive advantages disappear, and the other half become potential weaknesses.
The most important thing, as far as I'm concerned, is that our military _appears_ to be faithful to the rule of law and the ideals and principles upon which the United States was founded. If the military remains loyal to true representative government, neither bowing to tin-pot dictators nor terrorist manipulation, then an outright civil war is essentially impossible; the US military is simply too powerful for a civilian rebellion to succeed. As a result, it is _absolutely imperative_ that we protect and preserve the moral integrity of the armed forces; they are not loyal to the President, they are loyal to _the United States,_ and if the President orders them to do something that is contrary to their conscience and to the laws of the United States and the international laws of war, they MUST refuse those orders. Doesn't matter who's sitting in that chair.

One issue overlooked is the use of EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) to destroy our power grid. A nuclear explosion in space could create a large pulse of electricity that could devastate our transformers and power lines, as well as the equipment attached to them. This could cripple us. Of course, our enemies also know that we have submarines that could destroy them, should they attack us. Still, it's something to keep in mind - we're vulnerable in this way.
