Awesome posing tips!👏🏻 Thank you!🙏🏼 Love using your presets.👍🏼
I love this Vanessa. I know I always comment on the gear but the tutorial is perfect.
Great stuff as usual. I'd love to see a little bit of posing advice in each one of your videos when you are working with a model. I learn best from repetition, so that would really help me.
Wow. I must have watched hundreds of videos over the years and this was one of the best for posing tips. Well done, Vanessa. THX
Wow, thank you!
I totally concur.
I enjoy your secrets to pose people. How to move the model. In the film days I could have used this knowledge. Most of my work was posing mom and dad. The kids. Doing the triangle pose. You have to be one of the most creative photographers I have seen. Thank you
This is great basic stuff Ms. Joy! Keep them coming! Thank you!
You re the best, Vanessa! Thanks for all the great content as always!
My pleasure 😇
Great work as usual! Thanks for the nice tutorial.
Hi Vanessa, have to write it as a thank you - the knowledge and explanation you give is beyond the top tutorials on YT and I have some advanced knowledge myself. The "Top 8 Flash Photography Tricks" was my first vid of yours and I was stunned as it literaly was the best tutorial I have ever seen on YT. Thank you for expanding my knowledge and creativity.
Love this!!! Thanks for the tips 🙏❤️
Thank You! I really needed that tutorial. Posing was always awkward for me. It's a balance of Art and a visual Science.
so so true! glad you liked it
Very comprehensive. As a newbie your instruction is spot on for retention. Thank You!!
Your sweating because Julianna brought the fire! Thanks for the Masculine vs feminine angle description that really helped.
No she's sweating because those new Canon lenses weigh like a brick.
I am glad it weighs like a brick and not like a fish, all that flopping around makes an accurate weight difficult.
@@photographerjonathan I like to feel confident in a good quality build that might weigh more than a garbage plastic build that's lighter.
@@wannabeturbo Hurray for you, but your build quality argument doesn't cut it. there are many smaller and lighter lenses with top notch build quality, and weight does not mean build quality, it just means big and heavy glass. The new Sigma 85 art Fe mount. is almost half the weight of the new Canon 85L. 1195g compared to 625g, and the build quality is top notch. and I will give up f1.2 to have f1.4 and half the weight any day of the week. and that is without even talking price. $2.800 compared to $1.200. I can buy the Sigma 85 Art and the Sony 135GM for the same price as just the Canon 85L
@@photographerjonathan so 500 grams must be a lot for you. I'm sorry you're so weak.
This is by far the best posing video I've ever watched on UA-cam! Well done Vanessa
Thanks so much!
Hi Vanessa! I always value your amazing work! I am a professional bird photographer but I wanted to tell you about the RF mount Samyang 85mm f 1.4. It’s very good in case any of your followers would like an inexpensive option. I have some quality L lenses for my work and I can tell you I was impressed with this $700 gem. In case any beginners want a great option. AF works very well on my R6 too, for the most part. Good colors and contrast, sharpness. For my needs I couldn’t justify the amazing RF 85 but this works great also. Thanks!
Oh my goodness, amazing and subtle movements with elbow angles, demonstrating masculine Vs. famine qualities. This is the first time seeing your videos and I'm am already a fan. Really great teaching source and you have such excellent techniques to help anyone improve their photographic skills. Thank you for sharing this with all seasoned and beginning photographers.
Wow, thank you!
Awesome work as always. It is not about just taking a photo, but to develop the art and skills of seeing what you photograph
Absolutely!
Excellent video Vanessa. Throughly enjoyed. Thank you .
Helpful, thank you, it helps knock dust off from long break from shooting.
Thank goodness for you and this. I’ve been looking for a great explanation of how to pose someone and this is excellent. You help explain why people should pose in certain positions. I really appreciate you.
So happy you like it!
Love video about posing; -) Thanks for sharing!
deserve a sub, always brilliant and helpful content Vanessa
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it!!
Excellent material! Thanks, Vanessa! I agree with some comments that drop-dead gorgeous models can make it easy for the photographer. The difficulty comes trying to minimize (hide) unattractive features and make them look great.
Really informative video. Glad that I watched the whole thing. Thanks for making it for us.
Glad you enjoyed it!
These are great tips & a great video that gives so much value!! Thanks for sharing
My pleasure 😇
Outstanding advice from a real pro. Thanks for taking me along!
Glad it was helpful!
Great content, really useful!
on top of that, I love your Camera Strap!
any chance you could share where you bought it?
Great tutorial Vanessa, keep them coming :)
Awesome tips. Thank you sharing!
A very nice introduction to posing, Vanessa.
Posing, for me, was the very hardest part of people photography when I started in the film days when the first time we would see the image and effects of the lens was in the darkroom, days or weeks later. When digital matured it all became easier with the immediate feedback but there remained the problem of communicating what was needed. Mastering the technical aspect of photography is simple but the difference in photographers who consistently have very desirable results and please clients almost always involves easy communications with the subject.
A lot of photographers are not people persons and one reason why they interact with a camera instead of people, it is a shield to hide behind. Working with skilled models, however, is much easier because of a common shortcut vocabulary. When I started working with professional models for catalog and advertising campaigns it seemed to all come together because the skilled models are eager to contribute to the success of the project. After that, I recommended beginning photographers wanting to do portraiture or lifestyle shooting to hire a professional model and tell them before they agree or not, that you are a beginner and want to learn posing, if they are willing, they see you as a potential employer so they might be happy to describe what they are doing and why in the session. It would be the cheapest education on model communications, for a few hundred dollars and a couple hours. Many would not want to bother with beginners but if you are a good student and have paying sessions in the future, a model who cares about her craft will probably accept, knowing you will call her first.
The first thing you learn is that the equipment does not matter as much as manufacturers and hobbyist snobs want you to believe. Model, concept, light/dark, and environment are all free or low cost and have much much more impact on results than camera format or features.
You are so right. Communication is everything and it’s NOT easy.
GREAT VIDEO! Shows how you need to have constant interaction wth the model and also guide her in the poses...thanks!!
So true
Fantastic content, really useful, illustrative etc. Thanks a bundle.
Awesome tips Vanessa! I’ve long believed the ability to read body language to be a KEY ingredient in making a great portrait photographer!
Absolutely!! I feel like I still hae a lot to learn about it, but I do know a thing or two I can show :-)
Vanessa Joy oh you have lots of good info to share! Keep being it! 😊
Well done Vanessa, glad I found this video.
Amazing video! More of these please!
I just found your UA-cam Channel and loved this video! Now I'm subscribed and looking forward to watching more.
Yay thanks! And welcome!
This was awesome thank you so much for these tips it helps so much 👍.
So happy to hear!
This was amazing.. Great help!!! Thanks!
Yay happy to hear it
Loved the video. Thank you
Love the poses!
Thank you for this. While I will not downright copy everything here (that wouldn't be very creative, nor helpful), your explanations of WHY you are doing certain things (and what it is you're attempting to achieve with it), is (to me) a lot more helpful than the images themselves (which are more eyecandy, and take that in the best way possible, please :) )
As someone who's decided to more and more specialize at young women in their most vulnerable age and "make them feel beautiful just the way they are" (before society gets its chance to force them into the meatgrinder to become just another boring copy of someone else), and do my utmost to BUILD their confidence, knowing how to accentuate (and to a lesser degree hide) features becomes rather important. Your videos (and not only this one) always makes me stop and think several times along the way. Sometimes rewinding a bit, and talking things over with my wife (who is my photo assistant, and the one who helps the subject nail the pose, because society has decided that a male photographer even pointing from a distance to a fully clothed young girl's body parts to make her turn her hips or shoulders is reason for speculation), you so clearly showing the strength/elegance/vulnerable and feminine/masculine (which combined with some other tricks you've shown gives me the ability to tell my wife "I want a vulnerable, feminine, accentuated hourglass"), makes it very easy to end up with pictures that the vulnerable girl can see that she is REALLY BEAUTIFUL straight out of the camera. No need to edit her, she is perfect as she is (this is a trick I've started to use with low-confidence girls: If they see that the SOOC is good, they don't speculate in "did he edit me pretty?", and thus are less likely to think they need cosmetic surgery to be good enough. Don't ask me why, but it works).
Anyways, what I wanted to say is that your videos help. A lot. Thank you! :)
Really a fantastic low key video on posing, thank you! I got a ton of benefit out of this! / cheers from the west coast
So happy you like it!
Thank you! very helpful
One of THE BEST for posing! Got yourself a new subscriber. 😃📷
Oh my goodness thank you!!!
This is a great video. Very crisp and clean explanations. I just rented the R5 last weekend. AMAZING camera. I’m torn between the R5 & R6 because I’m not sure if I want 45MP mínimums on my .raw files.
Wow! Just found your channel. Experienced portrait photographer here but still picked up some good tips. You're lovely, smart, personable, and engaging. Thanks!
Thanks so much!. So glad you’re here :-)
Hi Vanessa, with the wonderful understanding of these things, you are soooo beautiful person. All the very best!
Thank you so much!
Thanx for this one! Very educating tips!
My pleasure 😇
This was very helpful, thank you very much. I have a custom couture business but I seldom have cash for pro photos or models at this stage, and I’m trying to up my selfie photography game since I feel awkward modeling in my own photos. I love taking nature photos, but fashion photos haven’t been as intuitive for me. I’ve watched quite a few posing videos on UA-cam and this is by far the most specific and informative. I learned things both from the POV of the photographer and model.
Great to hear!!
I love that camera strap, by the way!
Hello Vanessa, This is great! Thanks for the amazing tutorial, I learnt a lot from it! God bless you!
Glad it was helpful!
wow so helpful, lot of natural tips that come up so organically in one session
Glad it was helpful!
Very nicely presented!
Thank you. Really helpful tips, especially about not being negative
My pleasure!

So nice of you
that was a very enjoyable video with alot of great tips... I've seen your model before in other fotogs videos ..she's beautiful and her eyes are amazing... Would like to know what type of camera strap your using.??
Love it! Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Great video! Answered my questions. You get a sub! 🎉
Thanks 😊
Thankful for this I I'm really appreciative
Glad I could help ☺️
Good vid and nice tip oh and the use of the big 85 😎 greatings from sweden 👍
Thanks! 👍 and hello :-)
Thank you. Your video helped me taking pictures of my daughter. I don't typically photograph or pose models so this is new territory but your video helped a lot!
So fun!! I’m sure she loved them :)
Excellent, you are the best and I learned a lot from this video. Your camera strap also looks very comfortable and fancy, could you let me know will did you got it? I wish I could have one same as yours, thank you.
Nice tutorial, it helps me a lot...
Thanks for such great video!!!
Please more videos on posing!!!!
Will do!
Really great simple tips!!
Happy they’re helpful. :-)
Great informative video, I’m venturing into portrait photography and this video helps me a lot. Got to go shoot some Japanese in china dress soon and this helps me greatly, thanks a lot and I’m looking forward to your next video
Happy u like!
Great video!! 👍🏽
May I ask what kind of camera strap you're using?
awesome video and spend sometime thinking "Vanessa must be sooo strong", that setup is super heavy and your voice doesn't even crack! Kudos!
Lol thx
Thanks for the great insights as usual Venessa. Any chance you can let us know what leather strap you have there? I’m looking for one and I like the one you have.
This was fantastic. I wish I could talk to you or learn under you. I’m a male photographer and I want to learn how to coach poses without making the models uncomfortable. Up to this point I just let them do their thing because I’m afraid to make them uneasy. It’s not fair to them and it will also ruin the shoot.
I especially liked the side by side comparisons
Very nice !
Overall a great presenter/photographer/professional. There are so many people that do this....but not so organized like yourself...thanks
Aw thank you. I so appreciate the kind words!!
I am of a video producer...getting into still camera later years. That said, I am going to make your videos my go to for my portrait study.
Whatever pose you put that model in, she will always look good. :) Nice tips, something to learn from. Are you getting both eyes sharp at aperture 1.2 when model is turned? I use the Sony and aperture 1.4 mostly but started to use smaller ap because of patterns and moire in clothes. I actually see this in the EVF, moving in an out helps. But using a high mp camera is not always good for portraits. Nice video, tnx!
You have the science of posing down, good video...;)
Great Video as always, where did you get your camera strap??
Very good tutorial! Subscribed.
Thanks for watching and subbing!!
Great Posing tutorial.....as for the green cast....I would use XRITE Color Checker Passport to create a custom color profile for the scene. This will allow you to get the precise original colors on the model in post - quickly on all your pics.
Yes but then it would take the green out of the whole scene, foliage included :)
Smart tip about using one tool at a time across images.
Great video and I learned a lot
Glad it was helpful!
Well Done. Very Practical. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
This was super helpful! One of the most uncomfortable parts of photography for me is directing people during a photo shoot. That's why I haven't done a lot of this type of shooting, I mostly shoot basketball games and wildlife lol
Happy it’s helped!
New sub! Loving your vids. I would love to see more about posing faces. Or do you even think about faces as much as the whole portrait?
I could definitely do a whole video about posing faces :)
@@VanessaJoy And I would watch it! Thank you!
Nicely done! Thanks for sharing! I wonder if you both went to same store and got the pants. Buy one get one free :) LOL! Joking of course!
That white reflector really helps!
It does!
Great content, thanks
Glad you like :)
It's just always a JOY to hear the relaxed yet precise way of VANESSA, how she comments on the important things while taking photos! Only sometimes it is difficult for me to decide between the posing model and the photographer model … 😘
Lol well thanks. For all of those things :)
I'm a student of movie photography, usually I use my blackmagic to shoot videos, but recently I picked up my "old" canon EOS 4000D (which I know it's not nearly as good as the one you have) because a classmate of mine asked me to made her some pictures. The problem is that in movie it's completly different and i had no clue on how to make someone pose for a pic, this video helped me out. Thanks
Happy it helped!
Vanessa Joy always share good tutorials. Thank you
Yay 👏
Fantastic. Thanks a lot.
Subscribed.
Thanks so much!!
Great Job Charles!

Thx 😊
Very nice photography u r Best photographer
Thank you so much 😀
Helpful video!
Glad to hear that!
Thanks for nurturing me
Any time haha
Really great job on this video. I'm really learning a lot. Can't wait to put this in practice. If you didn't already make one can you do a video on how to start a photography business?
I have this one that’s a good start: ua-cam.com/video/qwXKCYyj0qk/v-deo.html
