Could you perhaps consider making a video about how to pose a couple that have no experience? I would also like to see a video on how to take better headshots/social media profile pictures!
So tired of seeing videos and training course on portraiture where they use a professional model. This is the clearest instruction video on posing I've ever seen and has given me renewed confidence to keep trying at portraiture. Your technique is moving a little towards documentary style and produces lovely relaxed contemporary results. Thank you so much
Thank you for the ideas. I’m a high school yearbook teacher. Every year I take senior photos for those that can’t afford them and then print and frame a few for the student. This definitely helps me work with a student model.
So nice to see a video with tips that the photographers face is not stuffed in the camera. Viewers are here for the content and that's what this is and it's awesome. Shoot a lot of non-professional models this will definitely be helpful. Thank you. Saved!
Great stuff. Only one thing that I was taught back in the film days as a portrait photographer and still bugs me. When doing the hand on the chin have the subject turn the hand to the thin side instead of broadside. That big skin area on a broadside hand pulls attention from the face. Depending on the focal length you are using it can really pull. I noticed it on the one shot of Alanna. Her hand appeared almost as big as her face in shot and was the foreground item. Other than that everything was great. Simple, easy and relaxed for the model yet still provided opportunity for a variety of shots. Thanks.
Thank you Thank you thank you. I've been waiting for a video like this for years. Cant believe I just now run into your channel. Great stuff! More please.
I used a lot of these on a shoot and the model said she thought I was new to doing shoots like this but figured I had been doing it for a while. Thanks for helping me fake it till I make it :)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Just remember, even non-models can strike a pose like a pro with a little guidance and a lot of confidence! 😄
Incredible useful tips!!! I’m sure I’ll use every single one of them BUT the high shutter speed. I agree it’s important to keep your images sharp, however, it’s also important to keep the photoshoot dynamic. Lowering your shutter speed creates blurry images but if captured well, they transmit an intense feeling of movement and a certain “grace” to the model and the images.
1:52 walk the walk. 2:24 pose number 3. she's effortless. 2:50 posing tip 4. zhuzh the hair. similar to the last pose, 3:16 the thinker. while the model is sitting, get them to place one elbow on a knee and sit forward a bit to supper their chin with that same hand
This was incredibly HELPFUL OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH I’m a beginner photographer and one of the most awkward things for me was posing the “models” through the shoot so this was so helpful
I am a new photographer and I would love to know what you put your shutter speed on to capture these moving constantly? Also did you keep this on af-s or do you put it on af-c since she will be moving all the time? Thank you so much :)
Lizzie you are inspiring. I am so much older than you but I find myself wanting to do most of the things you do. I am curious how you get to work for so many different people. You do it all. It’s not only photos but voice overs, singing, video. It’s all of it and you could be the model in your own pictures. How do you get where you’ve been?
Thank you for the video, I had this idea that I just should photoshoot with more "cute" outfit but her clothes gives me more confidence with my self and my style. The tips are great too!
Ive been blessed by having models who pretty much know their good angles and usually all I have to do is tell them what I envision and they make it happen. However, this well ran dry when I had a model with absolute NO IDEA how to pose and there was me, the photographer, with no idea how to pose her. I kept giving her general ideas but she simply wasn't able to grasp it. I'm definitely trying to learn how to actually pose models in the instance that they don't know their right from their left.
just a newbie in portraits ( i m an astrophtotgrapher, lol ! my wife wants me to take some shots of her, rather than the stars!!!) ... can u plz elaborate what u meant when u say - " i want to keep shadows high" ? r u refering to post production ?
When you say use a high shutter, I assume you are talking about shutter speed and not frame rate. Would a high frame rate be useful as well in capturing a more fluid motion and having more content to work with?
Wow this is the most practical tutorial I've seen so far. Couple this video with Julia Trotti's who talks more about how to interact with the person and you have all the elements you need!
You reference using a high shutter speed a few times. What specifically do u think this is for say a 50mm prime? Do u follow the typical formula, double the focal length?
Haha, glad I could help out! Just remember, non-models are like unicorns - they may be a little camera shy, but with the right poses, they can shine like superstars! Good luck with your shoot!
Great video! I would love to get tips on how to photography people that might have some body issues like overweight women for instance The typical poses don't always work very well here 🌱
What other posing content do you want to see more of? You guys keep asking for these videos, and we love making them!

Great tips! When you're using a high shutter, are you using at least 1/200, 1/500, or more?

Great! I have the poses, now I need a good photographer 😂😂🤩
Great video. Thank you! When you say you use high shutter speed for this kind of shoot what do you consider a minimum?
Great vid! The point about movement always looking better is great
Do you still use the Video Transmitter? I have been looking to see if it would be useful as a photographer

Super easy to understand and very helpful! Thanks a lot!
What is the antennae-like thing that you have attached to your camera for a lot of this video?
Came here to see if anyone else asked this. I wanna know too! I'm guessing it's to record her camera's LCD screen?
Thank you so much. Really needed this.
Very useful info! Thank you for this video!
That looks really helpful video presentation. Thank you very much 😊
Will the same type of pokes apply to a male photo subject?
When you say use a high shutter, I assume you are talking about shutter speed and not frame rate. Would a high frame rate be useful as well in capturing a more fluid motion and having more content to work with?

So good!! Thank you!! Modeling for photoshoots is one of my next areas of study!! You’re the 2nd video I’ve watched on my journey 😁
Great system! Do you ever use scenerios or prompts to help clients pose?
Helps if you have a beautiful set with great natural lighting and gorgeous model who would look good no matter what.
You reference using a high shutter speed a few times. What specifically do u think this is for say a 50mm prime? Do u follow the typical formula, double the focal length?
I have the same question. Wish she'd answered yours.

What settings do you use in order to capture the movement without it being blurry?
I absolutely love this ❤️💯
what is that wire on your camera connected to? is it some kind of wireless device to link to a computer?
Are the tips only working well for women or do they work well with men too?
