Personally the most important lesson I've learned from you is that to build talent beyond the role of the photographer can be such a tremendous improvement to the quality of work. You are a tremendously talented photographer. You are also an awesome stylist, makeup artist, and hairstylist. Most photographers, including me, are completely incapable at doing the other stuff.
I always remember a powerful quote from Joe McNally: "The easiest way to make sure you take interesting photos is to point your camera at interesting subjects". Your talent for styling ensures that you are always doing just that.
Thanks for continually inspiring us all!

Irene, you are amazing! Your photography is engaging, your tips are SO usable, and you are so "REAL" with your approach. Thank-you again for inspiring me. Please yes, Part II! Thanks for the ideas. My biggest takeaway here is the step-ladder. Change the angle of view! Brilliant and important :)!

A tip for you - For tripod stand stability in my studio I have begun using the plastic covered round disk canope leg weights. They have a slot that fits around the center post of the tripod and they sit well on top of the leg cross braces. Each is 5 lbs and 2 can be stacked to hold most tripod stands with even a monolight and a 32" soft box on them. They work far better than sand bags for this type stand. C stands work better with the butterfly type sand bags.

As always, you inspire. I’ve picked up most of these tips over time, watching your amazing videos. I’m a landscape photographer so if I were to get into portraiture your way is the only way for me. I love the natural light work. I had to replace my garden shed recently because my shed looked like it had been affected by an earthquake. As soon as the shed was up I thought ‘never mind the lawn mower, hedge clippers and rake ... this is my new studio’. Instead of hanging up my garden tools on the hooks I put a horizontal pole in place and clipped a floral duvet cover in place for my background. I then started experimenting with self portraiture as my pretty daughters can not be persuaded to model for me. I have been using Canon Connect for over a year now for landscape photography because it is so easy for capturing that lone figure or dog walker in a landscape and they have no idea they have been captured. They just think I’m texting someone. I have yet to buy my step ladder but that is next on my list. One tip for part two. I always noticed that you seem to be able to compose, focus and click very quickly. Then in one of your videos you gave me a clue. YOu said something about ‘face recognition’. I went through my Canon menus and eventually found it. This feature may be my saving grace when I persuade my girls to sit for me. Keep doing what you are doing. You are so inspiring.

Using the stepladder as a reflector stand is a great idea. I don't know why I ever thought of it, thanks. The reflector stand is one less thing I have to bring with me now. Film? I went digital 20+ years ago and will never go back.
Yes, please post more. I'm always looking for new ideas. Thanks Irene.

I've done pencil drawing for years. One of my longtime editing techniques was to turn the drawing upside down - to look for lines that were out of place. All along I thought I was the only person to do that! Nice to see that someone else uses the technique to get better angles and to edit from a different perspective. Thanks for sharing!
