  • The Land Rover Discovery replaces the old body-on-frame LR4 truck. This all-new Land Rover Discovery is built of the same platform as the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. It has an aluminum structure that helps shed almost 1000lbs. from the older truck. Powering the new Discovery is a 3.0L turbo diesel or 3.0L supercharged V6. The Gasoline engine has 340hp, the diesel has 443lb-ft. of torque. The Lander Rover Discovery is sold with a base model featuring 5seats but it is available with three-rows and 7-passengers. The Discovery comes with an 8-speed automatic and available air suspension for off-roading and also gaining easier access into the Discovery.

    My dad has a Discovery and man the ride is amazing, and super comfortable, the only issue we had is the diesel problem but beside for that we love the suv. The back you will get used as you own it but if you don’t just remember if you own this suv you spend most you time inside lol.

    Great review and thank you for addressing the issue of space behind the back seat. If you want comfortable seating for 7 and need that much space behind the 3rd row get a suburban - there does have to be some give and take for that in this segment.
    I had the opportunity to launch this vehicle in Arizona and in a time where the brand seems to be walking away from off roading let me assure you, this thing is incredible. Rock climbing in the Sonoran desert with this new Discovery made my 04 with locking differentials feel like a top heavy queasy antiquated off road slug that it is.
    One of the trainers who participated in the Land Rover G4 challenge said this vehicle (in a diesel) could be an easy lifetime vehicle and I agree 100%. Waiting for mine to arrive I n March.

    I drove one one these yesterday at the Washington Auto Show where Land Rover had set up their "Above and Beyond" off-road course (indoors btw) and I must the experience was a lot of fun and was very impressed with not just it's capabilities, but by how effortless it was. And also it was (for me) at times rather terrifying. 🤣

    I’m 2 months old Land-rover Discovery owner and since I got the car I had check engine light on for 2 days also 2 times malfunctions on diesel exhaust fluid. Air suspension also starting to fail and seats make noise when you get in the car. Fuel consumption is terrible on diesel, I get 10.8L/100KM on Highway and 13.9L/100KM in city with winter tires. The only reason I bought this car because low range gearbox and bigger third row seats. Do I enjoy the car? Yes of course I do enjoy it but those check engine light so annoying. I already drove 4000 KM. My other options was GLS but unfortunately doesn’t come in diesel or hybrid and 1 year waiting line to buy one!
    Zack let me know when travel to Toronto so I could show you the car. HSE LUX DIESEL. But away terrible dealer on steel, Avoid that dealer by all means.
    Thank for great review now its time to take it to off-road and show what it’s capable of..

    • @gianfrancoa
      @gianfrancoa 6 років тому

      Toronto sorry about that, but don't expect reliability out this car. isn't that ls740 has a low gear transfer.?

    • @hassan0098
      @hassan0098 6 років тому

      gianfrancoa It does have low transfer gear box. This car feels like a truck very very heavy and top heavy car. Mercedes GLS it feels much much lighter and easier to drive around the town. This car meant for off-roading not just going to the malls. If you are in city go for gasoline engine other than diesel. Diesel take days to warm up and after -25 car doesn’t fully warm up! My Disco’s air suspension starts to fail as well!

    • @meganpitcher9774
      @meganpitcher9774 6 років тому +2

      Your fuel economy will improve over time as the engine loosens. You will see 8l/100kms in about 6 months, and possibly better on the hwy. Go to disco5.co.uk and you'll find discussions on the issues you've had. Its nothing to worry about, and rest assured, your air suspension isn't about to fail, the LR air suspension is bullet-proof. Typically the warning lights are due to malfunctioning sensors, not a problem with any key components. BTW, you're very lucky you didn't get a GLS, its a far inferior vehicle with very limited off-road capability and despite its size, less interior room, and the resale is atrocious. My last 3 Discovery's have been sold (privately) for 70% of their new cost after 4 years, now that says something about how good these vehicles are.

    • @hassan0098
      @hassan0098 6 років тому

      Megan Pitcher I got new news for you! The diesel fluid exhaust tank were replaced by dealer under warranty but I got the warning again once since then. The air suspension fixed itself! The driver seat still make clicking noise while driving. The climate vent blowing hot air no matter what the temperature set at, Mine is dual climate zone HSE LUX TD6 if anyone know how to fix it please let me know dealer can’t fix!
      New problem is that sometimes car hesitates to move forward around 50km/h while pushing the gas pedal.
      I love the car specially the prestige it has. The air suspension raise so much while doing off-road which helps tons.

      People like these two knuckleheads are the reason Land Rover is losing their true legacy. The Jeep Wrangler is capitalizing on this. Kudos to Jeep. Heck even Mercedes has managed to keep developing the GWagen true to its roots despite it being the favorite among the housewives series on TV.
      ‘The old Discovery/LR4 corners top heavy...” - it’s a truck...it’s not made for cornering you idiot! You practically castrated the identity of a solid truck/SUV.

    You guys are confused as two left shoes, and you're confusing your viewers. Land Rover is the Brand/Manufacture. Range Rover and the Discovery are the two base product lines. The Range Rover comes in different versions, "think Ford Mustang and Mustang Cobra, VW Atlas and Atlas Sport". The Range Rover versions have different buyers in mind and a different market mission with the same vehicle. Those versions are Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque. Each one of the four versions are going to have their own trim package that personalizes the individual version of the Range Rover. I know it is strange to find the option of a 4 cylinder in some of the models like the Velar and for obvious reasons the Evoque. However with weight saving build technology and engines being more efficient now more than ever, the vehicles can be package with a lot of versatility in drive train, providing some frugal customers with four cylinders. To Land Rover that is mission accomplished, units sold. Me personally, I always go with the larger engine option, benefit is, better brakes, better cooling, better transmission, etc. Those systems have to support the larger engine and therefore are more durable over the life of the vehicle.

      @James Wilkinson he isn't almost right, he is totally right, range rover and land Rover aren't different companies, they're the company and the one model of the company. If they were different companies, then the discovery would be a company too. It's hard for people to get, but the og comment said it right and there's nothing more. What you said is truth about land Rover and jaguar, different companies which are owned by the same companie, JLR

    • @OrdinaryJoe12

    My family has had the 06 LR3 HSE on a 3 year lease & then leased another ‘08 model & then bought it out. It has a little over $100k but still runs great. Both of ours were fully loaded & we stil have the ‘08 as our daily driver. It’s a great SUV with great space in the 3rd row. I’m not so sure if that’s still the same with the new Discovery. I like the fact that you can finally get heated & cooled front & 2nd row seats along with heated 3rd row seats, & even though Land Rover has a much better infotainment system now, they need to add Apple CarPlay & Android Auto support for it

    I studied and worked in the UK for a while and almost everyone from the management team at work drove Range Rovers or LR Discovery. Every single Monday they talked about "what broke in my car", and it seemed like the owner of the car that broke "the most" was always the winner lol. When I finally asked why they keep buying them they all admitted they were horrible POS on the wheels, but they would still get another one, just BECAUSE. My roommates worked in the Jaguar/LR factory in West Midlands and I heard a lot of stories on how they missed some screws because of lack of time etc and the car would still pass the quality control. I love LRs, sexy cars and now even though I can afford one I would never get one, just because of my trust issues in this vehicle, I can't end up stranded in the broken vehicle in the middle of north alberta when it's -30 deg.

    Since the loads are higher on the Land Rover than the Velar, the gasoline engine has to be derated to handle the heat. Most likely it gets into problems near peak torque. Could even have different pistons which would make changing the fuel map to accommodate the torque and hit the higher HP impossible.

    I find it really annoying how most people are truly misinformed about Land Rover/Range Rover....To be clear, Range Rover is NOT its own brand, Range Rover is NOT a more prestigious brand vs Land Rover....Range Rover is Land Rover. Range Rover is a model under the Land Rover Brand, Discovery is a model under Land Rover brand. The Discovery is not a cheaper knock off of the Range Rover. The Discovery has a purpose of its own. It's more utilitarian, but with a touch class and elegance, the Range Rover is not as practical, where they focus more on luxury vs practicality. These SUV's are siblings, they come from the same DNA, with there own Characteristics, but at the end of the day, they are Land Rover!

I check this new one and I don't like this one ...this is not a heavy off road is a explorer with fancy emblem .is not a land Rover any more ..yes is light and have all those futures from 2018 but is not a safary truck..but is nice for City ..LR series was made for survived the end of the world.

    Land Rovers are unique because they're big and compact at the same time because they have to fit European roads. That said, in North America they are throwaway cars you don't keep as opposed to Lexus and Toyotas which will loyally stand by you.

      i agree, this is only good if your company pays you free lease every month. good luck buying this used or after warranty ends u will be known by your first name and celebrating your birthdays with mechanics at the dealership lmao

      I'd hardly put Toyota in the same category as a Land Rover. Lexus may be reliable but they are as bland and boring as a Toyota product. Everyone knows you don't buy a Land Rover if you want a quality vehicle.

    The air suspension is great for a smooth ride but the reliability is terrible. Ask any of the mechanics at the dealership, they will tell you the air suspension is not reliable once the warranty expires on the vehicle.

    Overpriced, hideous, terrible reliability, terrible resale. These get traded in at the dealership rather frequently and they always show up rusted to shit underneath after just 1 or 2 years. Land Rover as a brand is taking a huge hit with this. Hopefully they don't repeat this with the new Defender. Imagine if Jeep turned the Wrangler into a crossover? Terrible.

      Oh Reid, you do know these are made of aluminium don't you? Since 2004. So no, they don't rust to shit. As for terrible resale, have you ever actually owned one? No, I didn't think so. I have owned 3, a 2005 Disco3, a 2010 Disco 4 and a 2014 Disco 4. Each one sold after 4 years for 70% of what I paid new for them. Each vehicle has been taken off-road on forest trails and beaches (check out UA-cam for the videos) and performed brilliantly. At no time has any vehicle suffered any significant reliability issue, they just get their annual service, thats it. And by the way, this new Disco is actually better off-road than the previous model, which was incredible, so no, its not a crossover, its the real deal. So thats the facts, from someone who actually knows. So quit spreading bullish*t about something you obviously know nothing about.

    I get to try quite a bit of rental cars during my weekly travels...had a discovery for a week not so long ago. First impression...Lots of plastic in the interior. Second, uninspired unimpressive ride quality, sans off-road capability, which I haven’t tested. Third, questionable historical reliability...can’t really recommend it to anyone. The same goes for Jaguar XFs and XEs. The highlight of current generation of Jaguars is the exterior design and t pretty much ends there.

    • @Rhyme905
      @Rhyme905 6 років тому

      I test drove the Discovery and I agree with your views, compare this to the full range rover/ or RR sport and even the new vogue, the discovery has the WORST interior, it has none of then new technologies and lots of shitty plastic and bad quality. I couldn't tell if I was in a $30k SUV or one that is close to $100k. They really need to improve the interior and make it the same interior like RR sport/full RR. I would not buy this pile of shit unless it was given to me for free

    It’s not just this 7 seater, but what is the point of being able to seat 7 people but NOT anything worthwhile in the remaining luggage space? You could exactly take 7 people and their luggage to an airport to go on 2 weeks holiday. OR for example put even a small stroller or pushchair in there.

    • @meganpitcher9774
      @meganpitcher9774 6 років тому +1

      Clive, I have 4 children so when we go away for the weekend we simply fold one seat down in the back and store our luggage there. There is ample room, but if we're going away for longer we hitch up a trailer, its not very hard. The alternative is to buy a vehicle that is larger, such as a Tahoe or Yukon, but then you have rubbish dynamics, compromised off-road capability and horrendous fuel consumption. Land Rover have got the space/size compromise exactly right in my opinion.

    At least the Discovery4 its predecessor had ruggedness & Character of a Land Rover with difference to the name category or with the customer to the brand. While the successor looks wrong in seeming soft, cushy & purely only city based designed. Reminding you of the Freelander name & Toyota RAV4 .
    Which only needed updating in suspending it (Discovery 4) in the release development of the all new reborn Land Rover Defender not elimination.
    Which needs (Defender 2020) to be proven a workhorse success to the name like the Toyota LandCrusier name Identity & meaning.

    Everyone wants an suv with the 3rd row because they're so afraid of driving an "uncool" minivan, but you sacrifice so much...... But every model year change they start looking more and more like minivans anyways because people want more space. So why not just focus on making minivans look more like SUVs on the outside, so people can have all the passenger and cargo space they want without worrying about getting made fun of, or biting the bullet and getting something like a gas guzzling escalade?

    This is s'possed to be body-on-frame territory, real SUV stuff.....heavy , comfortable trucks with butch powerplants that sway round twisties, fjord rivers and climb rocks. The Disco LR4 had alot of that, this one is just a poser!
