Sean Snow of course he was a musician. One of the finest of the last century. The term musician does not belong to those who consider themselves instrumentalists. The fact he was one half of the finest music making duos in the history of modern memory in itself justifies his position as an outstanding musician let along a ‘musician’.

Craig G Thsnk you Craig. You took the words right out of my mouth!! Damien Kennedy , phenomenal performance , but Elvis and Aretha did it fantastic. Actually Paul Simon said that Elvis version was the greatest performance of one of his songs.
@@Sarcastard24 , They do not. I believe around 2010 was their last performance together. They do not get along well. Paul Simon recently did his farewell tour, and since Art damaged his vocal chord back in 2010, he rarely if ever performs live. A phenomenal duo, who became the sound of a generation.
@@Sarcastard24 Yes it was Paul who had the problem with Art and what a shame that had to happen but at least they left us with some of the best music ever written and sung by two of the best performers.
A simple answer is skill and talent, but, there is also the point of not making yourself more important than the song. There is a version by 'Friends for Grenfell'; Grenfell Tower was a tower block in London that burned down. As a response to this a local choir and some professional singers recorded a version of Bridge over Troubled Waters. The local choir nailed it, but the professional singers ruined it as they were trying to out do each other (at one point it seemed to be a competition of who could put the most vibrato in their voice). These 'professional' singers put their egos before the song and ruined it; they should be made to watch this video until they learn their lesson!
@@aaronjones6892 oh really? you're hijacking this now too? shame on you. all you are out is for to get as much money as possible for not deserving people. Total con.

I wish I could give 100 thumbs up 👍 his voice in my mind is just Pure I don't know of any other words to describe how my mind processes his voice. No joke I might have been a weird kid but I swear I felt something inexplicable as a 6 year old child in kindergarten when I heard his voice on this song in 1969 my parents had the album and I hope that you don't think I making this up Ms. Joan I'm not. I remember it like it was yesterday I would come home from school they were 1/2 days for Kindergarten in NY and in one swift motion as I walked through the front door drop my lunch box say hi to mom walk past the stereo in the living room snatch the Simon and Garfunkel LP and the CSNY LP continue straight down to the basement where I had an old hand me down Wooden RCA VICTROLA from the 40's that would shock the living heck out of me every time I placed the needle to the record but it was worth it ! So to make a long story short I would play those 2 albums over and over until I heard my father coming in from work when I had to take the records back to the stereo before dad saw had been taken the only had 4 Records so it Was obvious when they weren't there. I remember my teacher Mrs. Rosen sent me home with a letter to my parents saying That she was concerned that I was never going to amount to anything except a clown in the circus not in a funny way because I got my ass beat first then my parent went to school to speak to her about my unworthiness to the future society. still not joking all is true. It seems that she was quite upset that I wasn't able to give the correct answers to simple word spelling during the flash card segment of the day and when it was music time the entire class was made to stand choir style along to for instance Disney music like lavender blue dilly dilly only i would sing Word for word Bridge over troubled water and Cecilia also Suite Judy Blue Eyes ! Regardless of what songs the rest of the class sang and it was disruptive ! True story BTW the teacher was tall skinny big nose and a thick German Accent! Of course when we got home I got the lecture but was spared a second beating and when my parents went in their bedroom and closed the door the whole neighborhood could hear them Laughing their ass' off
@@BigBruno624 Something Paul later regretted. This song broke up Simon & Garfunkle...Paul did indeed say Art was the best for the song, then begrudged it the entire time. Ended up hating Art as this song marked their end, one tour with the song and they ended. Art was into making movies, Paul was more into liberal protesting. The beauty in this song hides the hate it was borne of, both in the underlying reason of the song (anti war, anti establishment) but also of Art. The first lines were written about Art neglecting Paul as Art was off making movies and Paul felt alone and rejected. The tears he speaks of were his, because of Art.
Absolutely right, talented beyond words. He will still be shining bright long after many of today's so-called "stars" have burned out and become forgotten.
I was at that concert. When he sang this song it was like being in the presence of an angel. The audience was hushed and recognized this was special. Simon and Garfunkel was a sound of its own.
You were there??????? I bet that was really something and I am quite jealous. 😊 Can you tell us about the guy who rushed the stage during the johnny ace song? What was his deal?
Hi Lethia I was at this concert too. I remember when that guy rushed the stage. It was right during the song about John Lennon. I don’t know if anybody know what that was about. But it was weird and you could see that Paul Dimin was a bit weirded out by it but anyway they got him off the stage pretty fast. That’s all I remember not much gel I guess to your question. Watermelon Kid... I'm from their era; late 1960's/1970. Believe me they were not under rated! Simon and Garfunkel were, and still are, two of the top performers of my era!
In the early '90s, my father bought me a cassette tape of Simon & Garfunkel on his way home from work. There was a loud audio in the master bedroom, and my father and I turned off the lights in the room and listened to music together. At the time, I was in elementary school, but I was touched by it and thought I listened to very beautiful music. My father didn't say much, but it made me a very emotional and music lover. I would like to thank him for his wonderful music and say that he is now in heaven but I always love him.

Just a man with an outstanding touching voice in front of the microphone, no dancers, no cool clothes, no sexy moves, no bling bling. If you are as talented as Art Garfunkel and singing a great song, your voice and personality are enough.
Simon & Garfunkel are without a doubt one of the greatest singing and song writing duo's of all time, I feel so unlucky that my young self will never get to hear them in person. :(

How true it is a great song. However it does not solve these awful deep dark problems we have ,our problems were all foretold thousands of years ago in the Bible, if you look in your own Bible at, Luke 21:11 there will be great earthquakes and in one place after another food shortages and pestilence. And Luke 21:9 furthermore when you hear of wars and disturbances do not be terrified for these things must take place first but the end will not occur immediately. But then there is good news John 17:3 this means everlasting life they're coming to know you the only true God and the one whom you sent Jesus Christ. According to that scripture we can gain everlasting life ,but we have to come to know God and his son ,and we do that by reading his word the Bible. The Bible also speaks of Resurrection people we've lost in death Daniel 12-2 those asleep in the dust of the earth will wake up. That's awesome news Matthew 24:14 this good news of the Kingdom will be preached to all the nations and then the end will come. Tell me what your opinion is of john Farnham's version. ua-cam.com/video/Z7scTuXSYT4/v-deo.html&ab_channel=GraehamGoble
You are not wrong, absolutely mesmerising. The build up is just stunning. He surely has the most beautiful voice of any singer
And pianist!
Yes I agree!!
but seriously can we give that pianist an award or something? he's amazing.
Yes absolutely brilliant
Richard Tee, one of my favorites
Oh yes yes Amen!
The piano player is great, but what an honor just sharing the stage with Garfunkel for this masterpiece.
Yes, sadly passed away July 1993, age 49, from prostate cancer.
Simon wrote it, only Garfunkel can sing it. A match made in heaven. Saw them live in Melbourne, still got it.
Damien Kennedy , phenomenal performance , but Elvis and Aretha did it fantastic. Actually Paul Simon said that Elvis version was the greatest performance of one of his songs.
Do they preform a lot still? I'd love to see them live.
@@robmorrison1043 if I remember correctly it was paul who had a problem with art. I feel like it all started after bridge over troubled water.
@@Sarcastard24 Yes it was Paul who had the problem with Art and what a shame that had to happen but at least they left us with some of the best music ever written and sung by two of the best performers.
No dancers, no show, no fancy clothing...just a microphone and a singer, I love it, wished I would have seen them live.
By "No fancy clothing" mention......
I presume you allude to the "Mutton Dressed As Lamb" performers we are are bombarded with today?
So true!
I love this song
I think it would've been fun if they had thrown in two lady dancers and musically gone full metallic, full volume. Just my bit.
And an outstanding gospel style piano.
I’m 27 years old male and from England and I absolutely adore this song. I hope GENERATIONS to come do aswell!!!!!
Oh, they will…
68 years old and still listen to this song. And everytime it pulls at the Heart Strings and my Eyes Start Leaking.
As of now, 20M people have watched an angel sing. How does one piano and one singer sound like a symphony?
A simple answer is skill and talent, but, there is also the point of not making yourself more important than the song. There is a version by 'Friends for Grenfell'; Grenfell Tower was a tower block in London that burned down. As a response to this a local choir and some professional singers recorded a version of Bridge over Troubled Waters. The local choir nailed it, but the professional singers ruined it as they were trying to out do each other (at one point it seemed to be a competition of who could put the most vibrato in their voice). These 'professional' singers put their egos before the song and ruined it; they should be made to watch this video until they learn their lesson!
@@aaronjones6892 Going to watch this now.
@@aaronjones6892 oh really? you're hijacking this now too? shame on you. all you are out is for to get as much money as possible for not deserving people. Total con.

Thumbs Up If You Think Art Garfunkel Nailed This Song!
Grew up listening to their songs😊😊😊😊❤️❤️
My husband and I danced to this when I was 19 and we were dating.
It seems that she was quite upset that I wasn't able to give the correct answers to simple word spelling during the flash card segment of the day and when it was music time the entire class was made to stand choir style along to for instance Disney music like lavender blue dilly dilly only i would sing
Word for word Bridge over troubled water and Cecilia also Suite Judy Blue Eyes ! Regardless of what songs the rest of the class sang and it was disruptive ! True story BTW the teacher was tall skinny big nose and a thick German Accent! Of course when we got home I got the lecture but was spared a second beating and when my parents went in their bedroom and closed the door the whole neighborhood could hear them Laughing their ass' off
@@chazvalvo2840 cool story :)

Besides Art's magnificent performance, kudos to keyboardist, Richard Tee for his spectacular accompaniment. He died at the tender age of 49
That's sad 😢
And don’t forget Paul Simon who wrote the song, and always let Art get the applause and kudos.
He had a natural ability. x

I was at that concert. When he sang this song it was like being in the presence of an angel. The audience was hushed and recognized this was special. Simon and Garfunkel was a sound of its own.
My sentiments exactly. The voice of an angel
You were there??????? I bet that was really something and I am quite jealous. 😊 Can you tell us about the guy who rushed the stage during the johnny ace song? What was his deal?
Hi Lethia
I was at this concert too. It was so long ago. But it escalated great concert and I will never forget being there. PEACR

Good point. He literally steps out of the limelight at the end, once his incredible contribution is finished.
He’s a very conscious performer. Why he made everything he’s ever made. He knows what he’s doing, always.
In the early '90s, my father bought me a cassette tape of Simon & Garfunkel on his way home from work. There was a loud audio in the master bedroom, and my father and I turned off the lights in the room and listened to music together. So this news has to be spread about the hope of everlasting life and it's on this Earth which will be a paradise, there is so much to learn if you read the Bible we have the perfect aids to help you understand and come to know your Bible for that information go to jw.org.
Yes times are dark and sad that's very true but it was all for told Luke 21:11 there will be great earthquakes and in one place after another food shortages and pestilence . In the latter part of mark 13:8 these things are the beginning of pangs of distress. 2nd Timothy 3:1 but know this that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. But it truly is not all gloomy there is hope Psalms 3:29 the righteous will possess the Earth and they will live forever on it. that scripture tells us what kind of people will live on the earth and for how long Ecclesiastes 1:4 the Earth remains forever. So we don't never have to worry about it being destroyed by man for instance global warming and also dead loved ones will be resurrected according to Daniel 12-2 those asleep in the dust of the earth will wake up Matthew 24:14 this good news of the Kingdom will be preached to all the nations and then the end will come for more information go to jw.org
In 1970 we had this played during our wedding ceremony.
For 32 years, my husband we my bridge. He died way too early and this song makes me cry every time I listen to it. Thank you!
Sorry for your loss. Best wishes to you.
God bless you Andrea my friend. So sorry for your loss. Tony in Portsmouth England.
So sorry for your loss so sorry to hear sending strength
This man sings like an angel, No one sounds this good live.
I love it. And I love EP's version too but in a different way. How cool is it that?
@@toddnelson7651 Exactly, Elvis sounds a little bit like Presley. Both versions are excelent.
No one, except him.
Robin Gibb is the best for me. Watch him all his music.
I read that when they split up, Paul Simon said the most difficult part was not being able to rely on that perfect voice next to him.
50 years just fell away. How privileged we were to grow up with such great music
I keep coming back to this. The greatest song that Paul Simon ever wrote. Whoever sang it, it would have been great, but you get Art Garfunkel producing his greatest ever vocal performance, and it elevates this song to a whole different level of greatness.
@@arabianknights7391 Paul Simon could sing wtf
@@arabianknights7391 paul is a good singer wtf
@@arabianknights7391 `Paul had the voice of a toad ‘ fella maybe you need to get your hearing sorted. I know ( another Paul ) McCartney did well with the frog chorus but what you’re saying is ludicrous lol.
@@dexterkaufmann9479 Not like Art in his prime something Paul did not like
My favorite song ever. My bridge is my wife, my grandsons and God. I have leukemia, from the Camp Lejeune water. My wife cares for me, and my grandsons love their PawPaw. They are my strength when I have none!
Best friend here.
Its my favourite too! I wish the best for you and your family ❤️👨👩👧👦
When I was in high school I was a lonely loser who was obsessed with Simon & Garfunkel. They were my friends. Their music gave me hope and inspiration.
Riss Masha lol I had a similar experience. Listening to the music took me to a wonderful place and helped me get through the hard times♥️
Love this.
Not the feeling like a loser part! But the hope and inspiration part :) (Btw, never say when you WERE a lonely loser. Youre Not a loser, do not think that about yourself. :) )
@@godswarrior6027 I flew to London only to get the right tattooartist to do the portrait of the artist who helped me most through life, Classified. "A lot of people make music to make you go forget about life, I make mine to hopefully help you out and deal with it right."
Most of us were lonely losers - but only to those who were too blind to see the beauty all around them - their loss!

Ok Paul Simon wrote this masterpiece but Garfunkel brought it to life with his voice
This song goes out to my wife Leslie, she was a polio survivor and this was her song for the 7 years we were married, before her death. May she Rest in Peace. Beautiful Song.
Xoxoxo
You can't improve on perfection. Nothing will ever compare to true talent
By this performance alone Art deserve a statue. It's out of this world really.
Paul Simon knows good singing when he hears it. He wrote this song and he was wise to give it to Art to sing. Nobody sings it better!
One of most beautiful songs ever written. After nearly 50 years it still gives me goosebumps!
Me too!
It’s a song to fall in love with again and again
His voice is actually angelic
Why would anyone put a thumbs down to this song and this version? Are you insane, totally tone deaf or have no soul.
Perhaps they are all of the above!
@Jim Brown Not with this song dummy....
Only someone who is tone deaf and knows nothing about real music would.
Perhaps they are idiots! Doesn't know how to appreciate good music.
I'm afraid the last option is the most accurate. Only soulless (and brainless) people can dislike this precious caress to the ear, body and soul.
Absolute perfection. Just standing with hands in pockets singing a difficult song so perfectly. This kind of talent is very rare today.
Is this your favorite?
This isn't just a song. This is what Heaven must sound like.
Michael Wilson amazing and art is humble and an amazing singer his vocals are incredible! I’m sitting in Australia we lost 100 houses in our beautiful town by the sea and this song has been my comfort zone.
@@evaadams8298 I think we've all had tragedies in our lives on different levels. And music can always be there for you. A perfect song will never let you down. Sometimes it's your only friend.
Aww, Thank you for that, well said, I think so too.
Still one of THE greatest songs of all time from one of THE best concerts of ALL time
The song "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is a masterpiece. It has been song often and is beautiful today as the day it was written.
For me, this is the greatest song ever written. I was 16 when I bought Simon and Garfunkel's greatest hits in 1974. After almost 50 years I still haven't found a song that surpasses this one. Just AWESOME!!
Indeed.
This is the greatest song ever written and sung by the greatest male singer of all times.
I first heard it when I was I8 years old and I still love it at 71.
Never get tired of it
Agreed
I am Born 64 ten years old listening this Music behind the door from my Brothers room. It is the best . This Song was coming from heaven and ist performed from an angel's voice. To comfort us all!!!!!!
Beautiful
So amazing voice every night before I sleep i listen this music until i slept very nice voice love you guys.
What amazes me is how this very unimposing man can command and captivate the attention of 500,000 people. Using just that angelic yet powerful voice of his. He's got this quiet confidence. You see him looking out over that massive crowd with an air of, "Yeah, Ive got this" to him. Bravo Mr Garfunkel!!
Sorry 😔 for your lost.
When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I'll dry them all
I'm on your side
Oh, when times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
Oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh, if you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

No one has mentioned the band ! Richard Tees piano playing is superb. He really drives the song forward. There were two masters performing that song. Arty and Mr T.
I was wondering who the piano player was... he's masterful!
Wasn't that Billy Preston? He also played piano at the Beatles Rooftop concert.
@@hankbridges5055 nope it's Richard
I agree, the piano adds a lot to the tune!
He's magnificent!
Art is flat out amazing.
Remember this from the early 70ties. I was 10 and my friend has this LP!
And we played and played this LP.
The voice control, decent music and meaningful lyrics are missing from today's music world.
Happy 80th birthday Mr. Garfunkel! You will never know how much your voice has meant to me. Thank you sir.
❤❤❤❤
Pitch perfect...one of the most talented vocalist of any generation...
Probably one of the Best Live Performances ever ……and I stand to be corrected
🙏🙏
Milton Nascimento - San Vicente.
Not an ounce of doubt in his voice. Art knows how good he is and puts forth a magical performance. I’m so glad this was recorded for the world to enjoy for the generations to come.
He's singing it for the song, not for himself. That's the beauty of it.
Yes.
