I’m so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to lose someone you love. I had lost my grandmother from cancer a year and a half ago. It hurts when things like that happen, like a part of your heart breaks and you ‘re never able to put the pieces back together. I hope you’re doing well these days and my heart goes out to you, friend. May God bless you and your family in Jesus’ name. 🙏❤️
I danced for the last time in front of an audience, in 2007 at 47. It was considered a miracle, because I had been crippled since 1987. Even though I am dying now at 64, I will forever be grateful to God for that beautiful night! Life goes on after we die and I will dance again with joy and no more pain! Praise the Lord!!🎉🙏❤
I've been a fan of this song for decades and only recently learned from an interview Simon did that the song was originally written with only the first two verses, inspired by some American gospel Simon had heard. The album's producer told Simon to add on another verse and give it a bigger ending. Simon's wife at the time was upset at discovering her first white hair and Simon wrote the third verse "Sail on silver girl" as a joking reaction to a white hair. I still love the song, but when that third verse starts part of me laughs knowing that this emotional song of support to those in distress was written partially in jest.
A FLAWLESS MASTERPIECE SIR❗ OUT OF THE HUNFREDS OF THOUSANDS OR MILLIONS OF OLD ROCK SONGS THIS HAS TO BE IN THE TOP 5... NO LESS❗ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, SUBLIME, PERFECTLY SUITED FOR ALL OF LOVES VISSISITUDES❗ NUFF' SAID.
My lovely Mum is dying and we are listening to this together in the hospice now. It was her fav song in 1974 when she was pregnant with me. It soothed her then. It soothed me as a baby. It soothes her now and breaks my heart. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, you are a part of our lives, Thank you.
The words and music are timeless. Garfunkel’s voice makes it mesmerizing. Wife passed 25 yrs ago. I raised two young kids. The waters were often very troubled, especially for them. We were the bridge. Daughter played this at her recent wedding. I danced and we cried. I will always have tears when I hear it.
I'm sorry you lost your wife back then. But do you know that God promises a world, in which there will be no more war, disease or death on earth. For example, in Jeremiah 29:11,12 God says ,,For I well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward you, declares Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of calamity,a to give you a future and a hope. And you will call me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you." God foretells also that in this time loved ones that whe have lost, will come back to life again here on earth. Revelations 21:3-5 ...,,with that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also he says: “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Jesus the Son of God put it this way:.."John 5:28 ...you shouldn't be surprised, because the time will come when all, who are in the graves will hear Gods voice and will come out. The future look's much better than most of the people expect, because God loves us and what he promises will not fail. If you are interested I send you an very interesting interactive textbook with the theme: Enjoy Life forever" www.jw.org/en/library/books/enjoy-life-forever/ This book is about what God will do in the very near future and how it can give you hope for the future. I wish you all the best for your future and send you my best greetings Michel
My Dad died on February 18 2020 from heart complications, I was 21 at the time and I now just graduated college (no thanks to the pandemic taking away our ceremony.) Simon and Garfunkel was one of my dad’s favorites and we played this song at his funeral. Today is Father’s Day and it’s been very difficult for me so far. My Dad was a Vietnam vet and a very loving man, I thought the least I could do for him today was talk about him here under one of his favorites. The most heartfelt song I’ve ever heard.
Gypsy Girl, so sorry to hear of your father's passing earlier this year. My 96 year-old father passed away in 2018 and I considered using this song at his funeral, but chose two other songs that were more appropriate for him. You certainly chose an amazing song and it is hard not to feel emotional after hearing it.
I'm at stage 4 cirrhosis of the liver and an immune disorder. I live with my 87 yr old mom who has dementia. I'm struggling to take care of myself because I take care of her. This song helps to reassure me that my faith in God will allow me to rest in eternal life with no more worries.
Kristie , I hope you're OK now friend, please try and remain positive regardless of how your feeling about your situation, im also going through shit btw, just trying to steady the ship so to speak, better days ahead for us all, love and respect for you all. 💖
@@kristiemoorman4175 thank you for replying, from Glasgow, Scotland, uk, give yourself and your mother a big hug from me (martin) and please don't give up kristie ,as hard as it is, god bless
At 75 I have just bought my wife a house in small town, SC. We are so close to the Baptist church we can here the bells play old hymns on the hour. Music does have a magical transcending quality to it. Many of the 70’s songs takes me back when I met the love of my life over 50 years ago. She lies here beside me asleep in the night.
@@marycooney It has not always been smooth sailing. My Mary and I are opposites. My many years with the (old) FBI made me skeptical of almost everything. Mary is a very spontaneous amorous girl from the KY mountains. She is a hugger while I’m a deep thinker. Our common ground is our love for the Bible and Jesus Christ. When it works for you remember God’s mathematics is 1+1=1.
[Verse 1] When you're weary Feeling small When tears are in your eyes I will dry them all I'm on your side Oh, when times get rough And friends just can't be found [Chorus] Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down [Verse 2] When you're down and out When you're on the street When evening falls so hard I will comfort you I'll take your part Oh, when darkness comes And pain is all around [Chorus] Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down [Verse 3] Sail on silver girl Sail on by Your time has come to shine All your dreams are on their way See how they shine Oh, if you need a friend I'm sailing right behind [Chorus] Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind
Pure poetry, full of raw emotion & so much feeling. Gets to my very soul. Even what I've just wrote doesn't do it justice. My words are not even close to the praise it deserves.
One of my most cherished memories is my Mom singing this by candlelight during a power outage. We were poor and my Dad left us. I will forever be grateful for that memory.
Simon and Garfunkel should have been designated as our poet laureates. They touched on every aspect of our lives and human nature in their music. No one can compare with their insightfulness into how each of us feels or has felt at one time or another. Genius songwriters.
Each time I've gone through a dark period in life, I've come back to this song. If these two only knew the blessing they've given people with their music.
"Bridge Over Troubled Water" is my favorite Opium song, because that, is the real meaning of what this song is all about. "Silver Girl" is actually the Opium "shining" needle "sailing" into a person's arm taking all the emotional, physical pain away. I have studied the occult ...the many hidden things of life on this earth.
At 68 I'm living after moving on a moment's notice to stay and care for My ex-wife who was abandoned by her husband 24/7 and no regrets. As my daughter told me chance of repaying her for my kids AND all😂😂😂she did for us in her life. Thank God for Margie.
I'm the father of a son who has severe learning disabilities. He means the world to me . I will be his bridge forever and he is mine . This song means so much when times are tough
stay strong man, I'm not related to anyone with a learning disability, but there are a few at my boarding school who are always almost shunned in a way, I always try being there for them and it gets hard for sure, but youre a great person I can tell, I mean youre listening to this song so I dont need much more than that lol, stay up, much love
My friend of 38 years passed this morning at the age of 48. This song had been playing in my head for days. I asked her to send me a sign she’s ok and this song came on the radio. Rest in peace Sam my beautiful friend
I'm so sorry for your sadness & loss. You remain in my heart. 💜 This song is so beautiful & deeply emotional. It's incredible that it was brought to you...
my grandmother passed away last night and just before we lost her i asked my grandfather what her favorite song was, he told me this song was one of their songs. so i played it for them as she took her final breaths. i will forever be reminded of her through this song ❤️
I am 70 years old . This song and Sounds of Silence are the two most beautiful songs ever written . Both songs relate in my life and both are played when I need them to understand what's inside me that needs . I cannot thank Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel any more than to play and share still this song. Needless to say ....just could never get more touching or needed as songs like this. We all have had the troubled waters and we all have cane over the bridges. We all have survived. Thank you
@@TubbyBrewster11 at 75, our word and reputation is all we have, be a man of your word, and protect that reputation! Be honest always!..... know the difference between "needs" and "wants".... you need food, you don't need that tattoo you want. Pay for needs first, if you have $$ left over then take a look at your wants! .....I see too many young folks buying stupid stuff and not being able to pay rent/groceries/gas/car/insurance etc.....Trust in God through Jesus.
In my 20's I heard this song....I have never stopped listening to it and I'm 75. I want this played at my funeral because it has so much to me for all these years
It is the most powerful artform in terms of it's impact on people. Imagine how many billions of times people have enjoyed this work, maybe lifted their spirits.
Music that we hear on earth, could not mathematically exist without the discipline of math known as Calculus. That math explains and allows how the notes relate to one another as the melodies and harmonies cause sounds that go together although those same notes come from different octaves. And singing is the only exercise of which we know that uses both halves of the brain at the same time. What’s more, it’s not a biological thing that could have evolved. Calculus had to have been in existence before the beginning, however you ascribe that event. Else, a “Big Bang” couldn’t have happened.

What about the boxer a dear friend of mine loved the song the boxer i know Art was the best at singing this beautiful song head even Elvis Presley sing this song it's definitely Art Garfunkel is the one for the song a master piece 👍 Scotland 😇
My Dad, Tony, passed away July 30th at 1:55am. 3-24-1952-7-30-2024. He was my hero. He was a single father when a lot of men wouldn't have stuck it out, he did. He raised me and my brother the best he could and knew how to. He was a wonderful man, father and mother. I'll miss him always and forever.
I feel like Paul Simon is often overlooked as a songwriter, he’s right up there with McCartney, Lennon, Brian Wilson, Dylan, Randy Newman and Carole King. One of the best of all time
This song gives the vibe of unconditional love. It dosnt need to be romantic love. Just caring for someone with your whole heart. No cover can perfectly the way I feel about the original. This song is beautiful. Sends chills down my spine every time I listen. 10/10
Beautiful song and beautiful comment! I am curious, what rating out of 10 would you give Elvis' version? I am genuinely interested, not looking to make a point! -D
I came back from Vietnam, a totally destroyed young man at 20 years old. Thank God I heard music like this when I came home and nobody cared about returning veterans
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and recorded. It brings feelings of sadness, joy, tears, hope, etc. all in the same song. And Art's voice was the perfect one to sing it.

I lost my wife in 2018. Listening to this song always makes me cry, but somehow I still think it is worth the pain. There are no row boats waiting on the shore, so enjoy your lives with your love while they are here. I did it for 52 yrs and am thankful for that. Peace, brothers and sisters.
This song was playing on the army bus when my dad got drafted in 1969, 37 yrs later I stepped off an airplane in Frankfurt Germany and boarded an army bus myself. The very first song to play was this. I dont have any idea what the odds are on that but it touched my soul. So much emotion for both of us surrounding the soung
Three days after returning from Vietnam having traded his arm, leg and eye for two purple hearts and a bronze star, my uncle sang this song to my 10 year old cousin who was in the hospital being treated for leukemia. He sang it at her funeral a few weeks later. Every time I hear it I can see my uncle standing there at the front of the cathedral singing this song in front of 600 people and a tiny white casket holding the mike in his remaining hand while leaning on a crutch. He who had sacrificed so much had more to give. He told me my cousin was the bravest person he had ever met. That coming from a man who almost died and lost body parts on the battle field while attempting to rescue comrades. He who could have gone home leaving Vietnam behind instead volunteered for not one but two more tours of duty. He who was shot in the leg and then patched up and volunteered for one more mission and lost his arm, eye and later the leg to infection, thought a little girl in a hospital bed was braver than he was. Typical hero type. Typical soldier. To quote him "just doing my job." Typical.
When I first heard this song on the radio I was living in Germany. It wasn't possible to buy the record there so I wrote to my cousins in the U.S. and asked them to send it to me, I wanted it so badly and I must have listened to it a million times after it arrived. Truly one of the best songs I've ever heard in my entire life!
Art Garfunkel has maybe the most beautifull pop voice of all time. In this song it's leterally like he is singing for God the father and all his angels. It seems so unreal. Tears are coming and they are so sweet.
This song. It cuts to the core of the listener. It has such power behind it and yet is so simple and can resonate with anyone. If anyone needs a good cry like I do just listening to this masterpiece makes things a tiny bit better.
The name of this song was mentioned as someone was praying during our morning prayer group. The Holy Spirit led our group into a discussion after we looked up the words and played the song. This was something very different for our morning prayer group. We were tremendously blessed today, November 13, 2024.
I'm with you. Definitely among the best songs ever written. It's beautiful poetry AND beautiful music and I love the gospel version Aretha Franklin but this is equally as beautiful. Garfunkel's voice is like an angel and 70% of this recording is just piano and Art Garfunkel, only the climax outro is done with a big production. It almost doesn't need the production. The purity of the voice with the piano is so intimate and expressive it's even more touching!
@@losangelesmusicteachers-bu3034 There's several demo's of this song (and others, of course) floating around on UA-cam. The one that's closest to the final version but without the production at the end is here: ua-cam.com/video/nRdNeAEpY9k/v-deo.html It's almost better than the album version, it's sort of a simpler version. I'm pretty sure you'll quite like it. A much earlier one is one where Paul is singing it, before he wrote the third and final verse. Here: ua-cam.com/video/nRdNeAEpY9k/v-deo.html It's clear that it's a more raw version, but I always love hearing Paul singing falsetto, even if it's just sort of a rough draft of the final song. Although I think if I absolutely *had* to pick one version, it'd be the Central Park one. Though that might not be my final choice.
My mom died years ago. As time passes, you’ll remember the good times with her and not her passing. It’ll happen. Time is the only healer. Good luck, brother.
Damn! You are obviously there for her. This is absolutely all that anyone could possibly ask, Michelle. What a beautiful song for her and this is by far the best rendition and she has chosen wisely. You may want to play this somewhere as well. Perhaps even while she is still here but be prepared this will not be easy for you because its highly likely that you have never heard this: ua-cam.com/video/4X4wCidoUXY/v-deo.html We played this at our Mom's memorial and after everyone stopped crying they all wanted to know WHO this was.
Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel, better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will put a smile on your face.. Hello!!! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you're a fan ? Have a great day.. Stay Safe
This song has saved my life so many times, that I’ve lost count. Being sexually, physically, emotionally and psychologically abused from age 4, by grandfather and father. First attempt of suicide at age 8, in 1971, and throughout my youth. Until I got help in my 30’s… this is the one song that would bring me back from the edge.
I am so sorry you went through so much trauma, I have two special needs brothers who my parents adopted out of abusive situations, some scars run deeper than physical wounds, I will remember you as I pray may God bless and heal you and may His Son hold you in His arms and bring peace. God bless you
So sorry for your pain Katrina, I too am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. I’m in my 60’s and I still seek help. Some wounds just take a long time to heal. This song has meaning for me too.
1970, I was 12, listening to my transistor radio under the covers. Tuned to Radio Luxemburg, which you could only do at night. This song came on and changed my life. 50 years later, I am still moved.
Played the Simon and Garfunkel greatest playlist as my grandad was passing in hospital. His favourite song was bridge over troubled water. It played as I said my final goodbye. He passed 4 days ago. This is going to be played at his funeral. I’ll love him eternally.
My grandad passed just over two weeks in hospital. This was his favourite song. I wasnt able to see him for the final month due to his condition but in his final moments I thought to this song and raised a glass to him. I later heard it was playing as he went. A great man passing to a great song.
My sister has stage 4 lung cancer and just survived an abdominal aneurysm rupture. I told her this song was how I saw her in my eyes. Silver girl, it’s your time now❤
Every night I sing this song to my son in our native language and he falls asleep to it. He turned one year old this month. I don’t know how long UA-cam will last but I hope someday he finds his way to this comment to learn how this song was the soundtrack to one of the most special times in my life. Hu guaiya hao lahi-hu. I love you my boy.
Simply one of the finest compositions and recordings in popular music history. Art and Paul harmonized together like no one else. When they both start singing “sail on, silver girl”, that passage is so indescribably beautiful. And a song that speaks of darkness and pain becomes so hopeful. It gets me every single time.
I was in college when my mother called up to tell me that our family dog had passed. He was 20 years old and had been in my life since before I could walk. My entire youth revolved around this dog and when that phone call came, I just sat back and turned off the lights and listened to this song..over and over again. Now, 55 years later, it it allows me to remember that time... and my dog...my Silver Girl.
Art Garfunkel never gave a better performance in his entire life than he does here. They must have realised that by the time the recording session was finished that it was a masterpiece. Even after more than 50 years it still brings a tear to many an eye.
No kidding about the masterpiece. Art Garfunkel’s voice will never be surpassed in the recording. Many artists have recorded this song, however Art’s version will always reign the superior version.
Actually, he is astonishing live. He has such a unique voice, that doesnt need recording "make up" ,try to see and listen his early 60's lives with Paul, or the legendary concert in central park. He's one of the few great "pop/rock" artists who can sing live as good, or even better than recording, as his pitch, precision, timber, intensity, flow of emotions are heavenly delivered anytime he sings. He gives all his soul to his voice, and that's maybe why so many say that he doesn't simply has a beautiful voce, but the voce of an angel.
My sister passed away recently. I asked to play this song after my eulogy. speech honoring her. As the song played, I started singing along which surprised me. But I continued and." buckets" of tears were pouring down. I think everyone was crying too. My husband passed away a few years ago and played this same song while celebrating his life with very dear women friends. Same emotion, "buckets" of tears while they huddled around me. Very powerful song! My husband and my sister definitely, both bridge over troubled water. I
I am so sorry for your great loss. I am a mother of three children, and I can't imagine a loss such as yours. I pray God continues to carry you through. To lose a child is one of the most terrifying things that can happen. I am so glad that you are still pressing on and please continue to. God is always there, for he is a bridge of troubled waters. Keep the faith and I shall continue to pray for you.
Wow! What a story of resilience in the face of pain! Thanks for sharing what must be a very painful experience for you! By your wounds we're healed! Your stillborn's death is not in vain! Your stillborn reminds us that even when we feel like Job, it's still better to go through tough times than come out stillborn. Your stillborn child will probably meet Job one day and be his teacher, saying: "Job, you lost everything and your health, and you envied me? Are you serious? If I had your life, I'd be so happy! To gain! To lose! To be healthy! To be sick! To recover! What a rich tapestry of experiences! What were you complaining about?" I think parents can be disappointed in what appears to be 'lost potential' in a stillborn. But we have to remember that God's thoughts and ways are higher than our own. And He knows how to work all things together for the good of us who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Your stillborn never had the chance to do anything good or evil. And yet, your stillborn is still loved by you and by all of us. Isn't your stillborn better off than the villains of history? Doesn't this prove to all of us that since all of us are selfish, and yet, we can love a stillborn who died before this stillborn can do anything for us, then our God, who is Love itself can love us completely independently of our daily performance? If your stillborn deserves love, don't you also? Don't we also? Of course! Even if we die today and don't finish all our tasks, do we deserve love? Yes. Even if we die today and our bills haven't been fully paid, do we deserve love? Yes. Did you invest in your stillborn? Yes! You had to be extra careful, you had to eat right, you couldn't do whatever you pleased. Did you get a cent of it back? No! But do you resent it? No! Why? Because you love your child, and you never expected anything from your child, and you just wanted your child to be happy. If anything, you feel bad, because you wanted to give your child more. Listen, if that's how we feel about one stillborn child, how do you think God feels about us living adults? If there is so much value in one stillborn child, just imagine how much value there is in each of us, nonstop! God sees us as assets, people, not liabilities! Remember that!
As a child in the 70's I hadn't been through enough to really get this song. It was overplayed on the radio too - it was the background muzac of my childhood. As a teen, getting my heart broken and taking drugs, I would secretly cry to this song. I wondered what was wrong with me: it was the schmaltziest, daggiest song from my childhood. It wears it's heart on it's sleeve, which is not a very rock and roll thing to do. But as a middle aged man, with years in recovery from addiction, and so many of my friends dead, this song is the closest thing I've heard to the voice of God. It tells me, when I'm weary and feeling small, that I am not alone, that I am held and understood. Love to all of you who know what I mean x
So was Sesame Street, and Mr Rodgers, they all try to change you mind. No one is there exept peope wanting money. I can't wait until I am dead so I don't have to with humans ever again. Wish I could spend more time with you
dave b I just rediscovered this song last week. Sat in my room and shed a tear man, what a song. In this time we will come together and be stronger! For we are down and out, like a bridge- over troubled water.
It’s impossible to believe this song is 50 years old. It’s still one of the most beautiful and moving songs ever. The first time I saw a video of Art from the last 10 years or so I felt sad because he can’t sing it like he used to. He can’t hit those notes anymore. But then I thought,”But he did. He was perfect. And we have it for always.” One music publication called it ‘The Song of the Decade”. I think it’s a “Song for the Ages”.
Call me cosmic, but I believe everything exists forever in its own time. It's just that we're not in that moment anymore. Imagine seeing him perform it back in the day, hey.
They can't . Too many interruptions from phones ringing , texts etc etc. Media and electronics are literally overwhelming these days. It's easy to forget how it was back then, there was so so much time with nothing but ourselves
Look, no doubt this is a classic, but there are very gifted musicians who write equally beautiful songs in this day and age. Listen to: The Trapeze Swinger by Iron & Wine Micheline by Sun Kil Moon The Only Thing by Sufjan Stevens
I believe this is one of the greatest songs ever written if not the greatest. What a great voice so glad I grew up in the 60s and 70s. The greatest music ever
One of the best songs ever! They don't make songs like this anymore. Paul Simon is one of the greatest poets and composers. Art Garfunkel is one of the greatest singers. I keep coming back to this song for decades!
How can anyone say enough about this! You have spoken the soul of so many of us. We need you, our poets, oursoulspeakers. We thank the Heavens for you.
I considered suicide several times, but each time, this song brought me back. These men saved my life, as well as the lives of some of my brothers in arms. God bless them both.
You are a valued member of the human race never forget this may God be with you every step of your journey here on earth we all have purpose we don't always see this BUT we have including you..
O I BLESS everyone here who has lost a Mom, Dad, Child, Friend - This song is SO consoling and beautiful and blesses everyone who listens to it! Take good care everyone and know that you are LOVED!!!
This song has a huge place in my heart - my mam used to sing this song to me and she told me she would always be the bridge over my troubled waters. After fighting cancer for two years my mam passed away on 30th October 2021. I cannot listen to this song without remembering her and hearing her singing it to me. I love and miss you so much mam
I’m going through a tough time in life. I’m dealing with moving into a house and getting our furniture back and it wasn’t easy as I expected. In 2022 I made friends, but our friendship between us ended in 2023. I felt like I had no one to left in the world to be around me, but I recently got to Middle School and made friends on the first day and they were real friends I can count on. My family and true friends are my bridge over troubled water.
So glad you realize the importance of those relationships and hope that as you grow new and strong bonds that continue this importance of peace that can sustain and abide in your life. There is always someone who cares, we just can't know them all at once. They are always around a bend. Stay strong
I always cry at this song because I'm always lonely and I don't have any friends in my life. Only stress, and anxiety, this song calms me down when I listen to this, I'm very thankful to this song. Tysm💗
I'm so sorry Chelsea. Have you tried Jesus? He's truly the best friend you could ever have, and gives peace like no other. I pray He comfort you, and show you how much He loves you
I heard God speak directly to my heart when I was going through a very difficult time in my life. I was passively listening to the radio and this song came on. In my heart I heard Him say, “Sail on silver girl, sail on by…Your time has come to shine, all your dreams are on their way…See how they shine!” My heart leapt and it literally took my breath away! This song still gives me goosebumps and will forever be a reminder of His encouragement during that very sad and lonely time.
I think this could possibly be the best song ever written. The lyrics are beautiful and every human being can relate at some point in their life this beautiful song for definite
Well actually, Paul did write it, but it was after Art and their producer (I don't remember his name) convinced him the song needed a third verse. And they were right.
Played this for my mother almost every day..she pasted away a few months ago...still brings tears to my eyes. Greatest song ever made. Love you mom. Miss you.
Bless you dear David. You were a good son for doing this. May you be surrounded by her 💝love everyday of your life. God give you peace and comfort in Jesus mighty name amen 🙏
This song is outright beautiful. And it's therapeutic. If ever a song could bring someone back from the brink, this is it. And Art Garfunkel's voice is absolutely incredible.
IMO...The greatest song ever written.....The greatest song that was ever sung !!!
Superbe!
Without a doubt, the best song of the past 55 years!

It hurts when things like that happen, like a part of your heart breaks and you ‘re never able to put the pieces back together. Quite possibly one of the best songs ever written. The words touch me every time
🩷
I've been a fan of this song for decades and only recently learned from an interview Simon did that the song was originally written with only the first two verses, inspired by some American gospel Simon had heard. The album's producer told Simon to add on another verse and give it a bigger ending. Simon's wife at the time was upset at discovering her first white hair and Simon wrote the third verse "Sail on silver girl" as a joking reaction to a white hair. I still love the song, but when that third verse starts part of me laughs knowing that this emotional song of support to those in distress was written partially in jest.
Every comments section on every video of every pop song says it's one of the best songs ever.

I Love This Song! 💗💗💗💗
Very love this song. Music and lyrics are very beautiful.

A fitting and beautiful tribute to your father. Beautiful. Peace to you.
Beautiful comment. You are probably a very beautiful person too. I lost my dad, somethings it’s hard to even think about him...
Gypsy Girl, so sorry to hear of your father's passing earlier this year. My 96 year-old father passed away in 2018 and I considered using this song at his funeral, but chose two other songs that were more appropriate for him. My deepest condolences.

Music is one of the few miracles humans are capable of creating that will forever leave a lasting mark in this world
It is the most powerful artform in terms of it's impact on people. Imagine how many billions of times people have enjoyed this work, maybe lifted their spirits.
Dont forget the series c black shadow. Perfection on two wheels.
And in reality music existed in heaven before humans did.

Here: ua-cam.com/video/nRdNeAEpY9k/v-deo.html It's clear that it's a more raw version, but I always love hearing Paul singing falsetto, even if it's just sort of a rough draft of the final song.

sorry for your loss.
My mom died years ago. As time passes, you’ll remember the good times with her and not her passing. It’ll happen. Time is the only healer. Good luck, brother.
You don’t move on for now she moves with you. 🙏💕🙏💕
She did............God Bless You.
Listening now. My cousin is about to pass and is in hospice. She asked everyone to play this today for her. 2024 😢
Damn! You are obviously there for her. This is absolutely all that anyone could possibly ask, Michelle. What a beautiful song for her and this is by far the best rendition and she has chosen wisely. You may want to play this somewhere as well. Perhaps even while she is still here but be prepared this will not be easy for you because its highly likely that you have never heard this:
ua-cam.com/video/4X4wCidoUXY/v-deo.html
We played this at our Mom's memorial and after everyone stopped crying they all wanted to know WHO this was.
❤
I’m very sorry for your loss, God bless you all.
So very sorry, prayers to you all.
May your cousin transition be easy prayers
One of the best songs ever written
A masterpiece for the soul
Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel, better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will put a smile on your face..
Hello!!! How are you doing today, please
pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I
just wanted to know if you're a fan ? Have a
great day.. Stay Safe
How are you
This song is so so beautiful and sad at the same time to me. It's a very moving and emotional song Indeed. A masterpiece for sure.
This has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.
It's beautiful. The LP was the first present my gorgeous husband of nearly 50 years bought me. I shall go out of this world to it !!
5 minutes of perfection. An absolute classic that can't be surpassed.
Check them out on Andy Williams show singing Parsley Sage...Canticle.
Amen.
If you're hurting and listening, I am with you and have your back
I can't do it by myself..😢

🙏
Same. But only my father.
I hope you have a good day today
1970, I was 12, listening to my transistor radio under the covers. Tuned to Radio Luxemburg, which you could only do at night. This song came on and changed my life. 50 years later, I am still moved.
Great buddy. I am same age like you. One of the greatest songs ever written and sung.
I too was 12 in 1970 - here’s to old farts!
Lol I used to do that
Me too dude and I was sick of the batteries going flat and then trying to get some more..money was tight but life was good !
Ahhh. Radio Luxembourg. I was in USAF in late 70's listening to RL. I understand that they are now off the air. What a shame.
❤️
Who cares?
My sister has stage 4 lung cancer and just survived an abdominal aneurysm rupture. I told her this song was how I saw her in my eyes. Silver girl, it’s your time now❤
@@jadams1722 About what?
Every night I sing this song to my son in our native language and he falls asleep to it. He turned one year old this month. I don’t know how long UA-cam will last but I hope someday he finds his way to this comment to learn how this song was the soundtrack to one of the most special times in my life. Hu guaiya hao lahi-hu. I love you my boy.
Well take a screenshot just in case
Simply one of the finest compositions and recordings in popular music history.
Art and Paul harmonized together like no one else. When they both start singing “sail on, silver girl”, that passage is so indescribably beautiful. And a song that speaks of darkness and pain becomes so hopeful. It gets me every single time.
"See how they shine!"
Do you like Elvis's version?
i absolutely agree.
'Not just hopeful. The fruition of hope. Your time is not coming, it has come. "All your dreams are memories". It is a triumph of love.

Rest easy
Sweet pup. I'm sorry for your loss.
This touched me. Powerful words. All the best.
She is happily waiting for you on the other side and will jump into your arms very soon 💜

Yes, I remember it being number 1 in Uk for many weeks
Just sent this to my daughter who’s been having a rough time lately. My silver girl

My first born baby was stillborn. This song enabled me to go forward. I was devestated. But I survived .
I am So sorry for Your loss. I am glad that you were comforted by what I consider one of the sweetest song's ever sang. You Take Care. God Bless You !
Wow! What a story of resilience in the face of pain! Thanks for sharing what must be a very painful experience for you! By your wounds we're healed! Your stillborn's death is not in vain! Your stillborn reminds us that even when we feel like Job, it's still better to go through tough times than come out stillborn. Your stillborn child will probably meet Job one day and be his teacher, saying:
"Job, you lost everything and your health, and you envied me? Are you serious? If I had your life, I'd be so happy! To gain! To lose! To be healthy! To be sick! To recover! What a rich tapestry of experiences! What were you complaining about?"
I think parents can be disappointed in what appears to be 'lost potential' in a stillborn.
Very sorry. Take one day at a time. Saying a prayer for you.
God bless you and your child.
Love to all of you who know what I mean x
yes!
Same, so same... thank you for sharing.
This song right here 🎤🎶😥
@chris aylwen Yes, absolutely, all of it.

Simon and Garfunkel have reunited! This song takes on new meanings today!
And we have it for always.”
One music publication called it ‘The Song of the Decade”.
I think it’s a “Song for the Ages”.
The song is now a classic don't make songs like this anymore
I saw Art with Paul in 1966 and Art live do Bridge in 2019. The notes were still true, albeit with less power. Tears flowed as I listened
Grace, loveliness, and beauty are eternal. So is this song.
Call me cosmic, but I believe everything exists forever in its own time. It's just that we're not in that moment anymore. Imagine seeing him perform it back in the day, hey.

My wife of 40 years is in the hospital with cognitive issues. With God's help I will be her bridge. Thank you Simon and Garfunkel.

They don’t write songs like this anymore...timelessly beautiful!
As I was just saying it: Paul Simon is far great as a composer and musician. Art Garfunkel, instead, is a far great vocalist. This song is the proof
this song, smile with michael jackson and and air writing by johan sebastian bach i got playd by a very god friends funeral, all people where crying
Cultural decay.
Listen to:
The Trapeze Swinger by Iron & Wine
Micheline by Sun Kil Moon
The Only Thing by Sufjan Stevens
My oldest child is sick, very sick. This song gives me faith in Jesus. And sail on silver girl has a new meaning.

It does elevate an already incredible song to something beyond measure.

I sing it to my 3 year old son.
To me, this song has the same meaning, I'll be the bridge to him, as your mom was to you.
Sorry for your loss...

sounds like she fell off the bridge

My grandmother past away on Friday 29th October 2021, I hear this song and I do remember her. God bless your souls.
Stay strong

The drum bang near the end sounds like a cannon going off. "Masterpiece" is an understatement.
One of the most BEAUTIFUL songs ever written! It's about empathy for someone that's beautiful & cared for not necessarily loved..
I was 10 years old when this came out. It's a blessing to have lived in such a time. Nothing remotely like this today.

What a masterpiece...Impossible not to cry if you listen this song remembering all the time of your life
I think this could possibly be the best song ever written. The lyrics are beautiful and every human being can relate at some point in their life this beautiful song for definite
I think heavenly father has sang this for me since my cancer diagnosis i needed him and he has never let me down hes been at my side with me xx
The musical arrangement... the lyrics... the vocals... This might be the perfect song!
It was already a worldbeater, but the "Sail on silver girl..." part takes it to another level. A masterclass in songwriting.
My understanding is that Paul Simon actually didn't care for that verse... however, I agree that it is still incredible!
Right I think Artie actually added that? It does take it to another level!
Well actually, Paul did write it, but it was after Art and their producer (I don't remember his name) convinced him the song needed a third verse.
And they were right.
And he said he dashed off the third verse in the studio. Something he never does.
Yes. Absolutely. 100% genius.
