Not really they met in the epilogue of their life. A sort of matrixy muster point for the dead before they move onto what ever is next. It’s post life, not the next life.
Now i realized that it was necessary to save desmond, in order to meet in the afterlife, at the end of the day he was the anchor, and “ I’ll see you in another life “ statement became true. How amazing this show was
Desmond: You were right, Jack. Jack: There's a first time for everything. Love that exchange. But you can't quite beat that immortal line: "I'll see you in another life, brother."
It was so great seeing Jack with such a sense of purpose and peace. He knew he was going to die, but it didn't seem to bother him. There was such a contentment about him. It was like he was connected with the Source and by virtue was not troubled by the thought of his death.
This really is a great little scene between the two characters. Jack and Desmond's stories have been intertwined quite a bit over the course of the show, though I wish there were more scenes of the two together. I got goosebumps when Jack said this line to Desmond in the the season finale, so when it popped up again here I was even more emotional!
@xbrindle Actually, Desmond would've died too, in my theory, because if you looked at him in this scene, when Jack says something to him, he doesn't react, but when Jack touches him, he starts breathing again. I think when Jack touched him he healed him, just like Jacob did when Locke fell from the window.
If I had a nickel for every time someone said to me “but they were dead the entire time weren’t they?” - people just didn’t understand the finale at all. It was beautiful.
@BriitneyFan Actually I didn't know untill I watched the episode with subtitles- but after he puts the plug back in and it seems like nothing happened, he says "No" a few times under his breath.
@ArmandtheWise It sort of is. I'm reminded more of "Distraught Desmond" and "The Constant", from the soundtracks of seasons 3 and 4, but it resembles the start of "Flying High" from season 3, as well. Here's hoping the entire finale's score is on the Season 6 soundtrack. That would be FANTASTIC!
@EdwardNygma1 How would you have liked him to die? Because in all honesty, they had tried all season to kill him and couldn't do it until the last few minutes. I think he was a very amazing villain and died almost exactly how I expected.
They actually changed this in the tv series if you watch this scene on amazon prime jack never says ‘see you in another life brotha’ it just skips to Kate trying to get Claire on the Ajira plane
i need to know the name of that song from 1:26 to the end of the video. it helped the emotional parting between desmond and jack in this scene even more. sounded like a combination of both of their themes.
@EdwardNygma1 Easily? It took a whole season for them to figure out how to kill him. And no, it wasn't pergatory, there are several interpretations about what happened in the flash sideways but I don't see how it's pergatory.
I wonder if jack became a smoke monster? Maybe no, because he was still alive when he stepped into the light, whereas mib was dead? I mean he hit his head as he fell down, not confirmed dead before, only when jacob found his physical body later on. So its possible that jacks spirit became a smoke monster too?
Jack did not become the smoke monster. He put the cork back in the hole and negated the negative energy that would’ve turned someone into the smoke monster. He was able to do this because he was the protector. Jack died after he did what he needed to do. And the smoke monster was no more. Also, Jack’s soul would have never been able to reach the flash sideways reality if it had turned into a smoke monster.
@@outside7 How is it a plothole? Jack accepted his death already and that this moment was his purpose. Its the same with Charlies death, he could of got out, but he also accepted his death.
Jack...the Island's protector "reignited/jumpstarted" the Island's mechanism because some of charge was contained in him as the Island's protector. When he touched the water...the glowing began again. Jack fulfilled his purpose: 1) Kill Smokey; 2) Restart the Island; 3) Appoint another protector.
Its not shown, but its heavily implied that Hurley and Ben simply help him go home. He lives out the rest of his life with his family. Hurley abolishes the rule that once you come to the island you can never leave.
Jacks death isn't what upsets me. What has always annoyed me is all the ways it could've been prevented. Like I was upset with Charlie's death, but I'm ok with it bc he would've died no mater what. Within that last episode, there was about 2 or 3 different options in which jack would've survived along with everyone else
The writers decided the show would begin and end with Jack's eyes. He was always fated to die at the end. Jack's transformation as a character is one of the most amazing ever on TV. He really becomes a man of faith at the end with peace and purpose. He is not afraid to die. He's on a mission to get everyone he can home and stop the smoke monster. It's glorious.
You ever knew someone that was your friend in your youth but didn't exactly say it was your friend. You meet him 20 years later and you just know each other. That's what it is !. Those were the things that made Lost weird / scary / unique. The end was lame tbh :S . Had great potential this show.
***** I thought the ending with the "sideways" crap was bad. The normal universe it ended fine. With the sideways stuff I don't give a damn about the characters in that. It's the afterlife. There's no point by then.
edward18517 That ending was needed for the proper closure of Lost. All candidates were flawed with no purpose off island and had a purpose only on the island. If it weren't for Jacob they would all probably have led a pitiful life and they were going to be in limbo for eternity. Its their life on the island that made them "move on".
A proper conclusion to me would be that reality turning out to be an alternate one rather than the afterlife. The conclusion of the show certainly wasn't a "proper" one in my eyes.
edward18517 It is because you didn't get the point of the show at all. Also what would have been the meaning of an "alternate reality"? The show is simply an example of societies and how individuals act/react/feel under these societies. The afterlife is the conclusion to that and is an interesting one as it is a unique take on life after death. The producers meant this all along. It is obvious through the whole show. And there are no real questions unanswered if you carefully watched it.
I got the point just fine. Doesn't mean I can't criticize when I don't like it. And no, it ain't a "unique" conclusion in the slightest. It's cliche as hell. And the creators have stated they made shit up as they went along.
The writers, "Darlton", blew the ending soooo bad Matthew got robbed of his emmy. Shame. I thought they promised a great ending but what we got was GARBAGE! :o(((
