Thanks to all the actors for all tears I shed and goosebumps I had while watching.
In hindsight I think Jacob always intended for Locke to be the one to correct his mistake (of creating smokey/this vicious cycle) and Hurley to set a new/better course for the future of the Island. Because Locke was dead Jack became the second choice for that; but Locke still took part in MiB's defeat by inspiring Jack to become the person that you see in this season. Jacob specifically kept Jack and Hurley from the Temple before the MiB attacked, the "Flash Sideways" also shows that Hurley is a good person with power.
Here is how I interpret the core elements of the central story told in LOST: Mother is the Protector of the Island to whom the Black Smoke obeys originally (basically to eliminate those who are perceived as a dangerous threat to the Island). Things change when she is killed and when Jacob's brother is thrown into the cave. At this moment, the Black Smoke liberates itself from its initial function by absorbing Jacob's brother vital essence and by adopting his identity. From this precise moment, the Balance which existed on the Island is disrupted. The Protector of the Island (Jacob) cannot control the Black Smoke anymore; it's even worse than that: the Black Smoke becomes his enemy with opposite goals (it/he wants to kill Jacob and to leave the Island). This is why Jacob starts to bring new people to the Island: he wants them to find a way to eliminate the new Black Smoke which reinforces chaos on the Island. When Desmond removes the cork and the Light in the Heart of the Island goes out, the extraordinary properties of the Island disappear. The Black Smoke becomes human (unknowingly to itself/himself, its particular form was always connected to the Light). Jack kills him and then restores the Light again. That's how the problem created by Jacob thousands of years ago is resolved. A new cycle begins with Hurley as the Protector of the Island. The Black Smoke reappears as an impersonal force where it originally belongs: in the Heart of the Island. Balance is reestablished. The Protector of the Island can summon the Black Smoke and use it, but knowing Hurley and his personality (his kindness and intrinsic non-violence) one can presume that he won't do that, as he will try to find more pacific ways to resolve conflict with the potential "threats" to the Island.

I do not understand one thing. Jacob himself said that the island needs to be protected from his brother, but the smokie is dead. Then what's the point of protecting the island?
It wasn't just the man in black, but other people who could discover the island and abuse it. If the light goes out it goes out everywhere - someone has to be around to make sure nothing happens to it from outside influence.
That's why I think Hurley took it, he finally accepted it. Plus It was special coming from Jack. As far as Ben, honestly I'm not sure how upset Ben was because he had just go through that whole thing with killing Jacob and realizing a lot of what he did was a mistake. So I think he was ok Not having the power. It was helping him become a better person. When he had power over people is when he was a terrible person. The island is the source of the light so they're protecting the light, there's a bit of that light in each and everyone of us and if the light goes out on the island, it goes out everywhere. It's unclear what would happen if it does but it's not good.
i'm not sure it was really ever explained (been a couple years for me too so I don't exactly remember). the island restricted the monster from getting out, and that's what Jacob was really worried about. So after the monster died, why else did the Island need to be protected again?
The island protector wasnt just about the smoke monster. It was about genrally protecting the island for the horrors of man that wished to exploit it. Ie: "Mother" as she is known was guardian for centuries or millenia before the Man in black became the smoke monster.
The prayer is pointless. Only words. It's the intent. Jacob.said the prayer, as did his "mom" because that was their culture. Handing the liquid over with the intent of making the person like you is what does it. The handing it. It is accepted by drinking.
I noticed that Jacob's 'mom' blessed the cup of wine he poured for Jacob and handed it to him and he accepted by taking it and drinking it.. When Jack was made, Jacob actually blessed the entire river/pond area.. So since that area was already blessed by Jacob, all Jack had to do was hand it to Hurley for him to accept the duty by drinking it.
@@JiZz2Xtreme What do you mean, Jacob blessed The entire area? The light and the water had the power. I don't remember him talking about a specific area lol

It wasn't just the man in black, but other people who could discover the island and abuse it. If the light goes out it goes out everywhere - someone has to be around to make sure nothing happens to it from outside influence.
Mother said that all man wants the light.
Solo una pregunta nunca me quedo claro que poderes tiene el protector de la isla . por lo que ví en la serie inmortalidad no ya que Jacobo murió
Jack smiling made me think he might have pissed in the water.
Not funny
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 i Thought so :p you have to accept that people have different types of humor.
Oh so NOW you people care about the island.
Lifes full of similaritys
If hurley really felt he couldn't handle being guardian why didn't he just pass it to ben. As hurley said he has experience.
And then in the flash sideways, remember when he refuses to try to take power from the principal, and ends up in a better place.
Plen122 thank you very much for pointing all that out you put my mind at ease on this one.
That’s why it had to be Him,
Hurley becomes a Jedi.
The most peaceful Jedi ever. I wonder if Hurley ever killed anyone in protecting the island? Lol maybe he just moved it out of the way, or made ships pass on by or something
"You're a Jedi, Hurley."
"I'm a what?"
We have to go back!
How is drinking from a paddle gives you superpowers?
So simple so effective
This movie taught me something means!
Entity The Imagination not a movie it's the t.v. series Lost
Hurley becoming Guardian is like Bran becoming King of Westeros
More like ben becoming a teacher, and jack becoming a whimp. All highly unlikely)
Wasn't eko suppose to become the guardian.
TheShadowSkull1 i think he was but the actor want to leave the show.
I think the writers meant that Eko would be the protector because he warned Locke about the Monster.
Boulbi Boulga i heard the he went to Oz the tv show
He was a candidate. Just like 359 other people.
@@Msurviv LOL Oz was filmed in the mid to late 90s
@@KingHayabusa384 so all those people were candidates, meaning Jacob gathered all those people together on the same airplane? But I thought the candidates couldn't kill themselves or get killed by certain people or whatever
I think that Ben was supposed to become guardian and get down there and save the Desmond and Island. He wanted to stay anyway, And he is only one who is not hurt or fat.
+BallroomBlitz This made me laugh
BallroomBlitz he was never a candidate
why does anyone have to protect the island after smokie was killed
SuCKeRPunCH187 from future groups that come along similar to the DHARMA initiative, and those guys the MiB joined in the ancient past; people trying to exploit the island and its abilities.
to protect it from men trying to harness and steal the light
From people like Donald Trump who want to take the power and use it for their own ends
Because there’s still good people out there who are flawed that need to be brought to the island by someone to give them a better life.
He even sounds like Francis
Unless we the users re direct ourselves manualy to differing script then the sysops of youtube are 100% responsible for the content the users see. Their for events which follow after that content has been viewed could also be their fault.
Jacob's "Mother": Ceremonial Ritual
Jacob: Half-Baked Ceremonial Ritual
Jack: Drink This
Whoever comes after Hurley: Dude, you're like me.
He filled that bottle with mud water
It has to be water from the ground of the island, just like Jacob gave to Jack, just like Mother gave to Jacob.
How could blitz be the guardian of the island!
I feel like i should watch this show. Never seen it
You def should whenever ur sick at home or something for a few days.. and if you can watch it with someone special.. you really won't regret it
Have you started watching it yet? Hulu has it. You'll probably get a month for free, plenty of time
so why are they protecting the island again?
b/c mankind is evil and will abuse the island like they do everything else..
@@JiZz2Xtreme lol I think the OP didn't wash the show... Or maybe a couple episodes
Stoned writers at their best.
The ritual became very basic.
Never understood why Hugo became like him. Jacob at least said something...like a prayer... but this? oO
The prayer is pointless. Only words. It's the intent. Jacob.said the prayer, as did his "mom" because that was their culture. Handing the liquid over with the intent of making the person like you is what does it. The handing it. It is accepted by drinking.
@@iguanapoops thx
I noticed that Jacob's 'mom' blessed the cup of wine he poured for Jacob and handed it to him and he accepted by taking it and drinking it.. When Jack was made, Jacob actually blessed the entire river/pond area.. So since that area was already blessed by Jacob, all Jack had to do was hand it to Hurley for him to accept the duty by drinking it.
@@JiZz2Xtreme What do you mean, Jacob blessed The entire area? The light and the water had the power. I don't remember him talking about a specific area lol
@@JiZz2Xtreme he clearly only blessed the cup. It's all about the intention.
Those falling rocks look super fake lol, like Star Trek Gorn level fake
after season 6 i think hurley turned the island to a choclate factory just for himself
He would share one chocolate bar with Ben.
Don't forget the ranch dressing. A big ranch dressing factory also.
I think hurley was enjoying free periodic dharma food supplies until ben finally shut it down in the finale episode 😅
lol those earthquakes look fake as fuck.
weezer
Hurley
This scene ruined me emotionally.
i hate Onions
Jeez the absence of end buffer is anti-climactic! X D : )
