In one song Dave combines a love story, sexual fantasy, perversion, beautiful analogy, children's nursery rhymes, and ingeniously creative guitar work into one of the most amazing pieces of music ever written. Like all of his songs it gets sweeter with age and never falls victim to changing music interests because it is so completely original. Despite being one of his most mainstream songs it lacks nothing.
I remember back when I was in middle school making fun of some girl because she liked DMB. Now that I am older I see how truly amazing they actually are.
When I was 8 my mum would play this song, now I'm 15 and this is the 1 reason I love playing guitar. This song is the song of my childhood and I have so many happy memories from this song. I just love it
She said her Mum played it. As in listening to it... Not directly to her.. Wow. lol. Anywho, glad you picked something up from the older generation. It is great to sample all sorts you never know what will strike a chord. :)
I can't imagine how people don't enjoy Dave's music. Especially this song...what's not to like?!?! Love all the instruments used and the lyrics and rhythm are perfect
Dave is a native of south Africa, his family settled in Charlottesville arter its even been discussed by LeRoi in aol sessions before Dreamgirl how Dave had a sound that they couldn't explain and it was a South African vibe coming out in his music.
I first heard this song in the car when I was about 10 years old And I could feel that special someone out there.. Been with her now for 11 years. Every time I hear this song it reminds me of that. even though I really didnt know what the lyrics was about then i could feel the magic.
Never understood why as a young kid I had such a connection to this song. I loved it with every bit of my heart. Some of my most vivid memories from my child hood is me and my mom driving around the city on a beautiful day with the convertible top down while this song plays. Such beauty and peace. Makes me so emotional to listen to it now. Thanks Dave :))
Every studio album debuted at number 1. They toured non-stop for 25 years, took a year off and went right back to it. In the off years Dave made several solo appearances. Even the greats (I mean big name greats) haven't kept that kind of schedule and that level of popularity for that length of time.
Eventhough i am frm South Africa where Dave is from....i was introduced to DMB on my visit to USA in 2002...no music collection is compltet without their these guys...
I keep coming back to this song every other year over the last 15+ years, and i always wear it out like I when I first heard it on the radio✨ pure magic. only song to not to be attached to someone/thing. it’s for me
Always brings tears to my eyes each time I hear this song once in a while. . .dunno why, but this really is one of those songs that brings back a lot of memories. . .just Epic. . .
I was 18yo when this ong came out, & I fell in love listening to it until now. It brings great memories. Btw, this was the best yr when smartphone don't event exist . Look at these people screaming, dancing, singing,& enjoying the live performance. Epic yr
everytime i visit youtube, it would appear on the main page. then i would end up listening to this song about 3 times. im gonna listen to this song til i get old
This is so well done but I love the crowds reaction best. That utter joy to hear such an iconic song for this band, they know they are in for something special and they just fill up the room with their gratitude. You can hear it in their "yes!" roars of applause.
I didn't even notice the piano until you pointed it out. It is hard to have this many instruments work well together and not just clash and just sound like noise. But it is done beautifully here!
Last month I wanted to tell the guy I was with that I loved him but I was too nervous so when we were together I played this song....for the first time in my life I slow danced and he told me that he loved me too ❤ I've never been in love before but I'm certainly enjoying the feeling....thank you Dave xxx
this is, in my opinion, the definition of music. the instruments in this song go together in a way that i have never heard before, whether live or in the studio version. it's just amazing.
They do it because they missed the experience of being in high school when this came out and this song being responsible for many romantic encounters with high school girls. So true :)
No one ever described this song so completely like u did. Good on you.
It took 20 years for someone to crush or crash this song so perfectly
this is the best story/ truth written about this journey of a song
Dave mattwes bad
September of 1999, and not a single person had a phone out in that crowd, just all eyes and ears, like it was meant to be.
My pager did not have a camera.
Peter Purcell lol
Too funny
No camera phones for lingering clouds on 9/11/1999; not never gonna. I don't have a cell in my jeans nor on my coat.
Crsby
I swear I can listen to this a Billion times, it never gets old. CRASH INTO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! :-D
definitely one of the greatest love songs ever written in music history,in my opinion
Shea Malvasio this is not a love song. It's about a voyeur watching a girl at night at ber bedroom window. Look it up.
Emil Pinaroc it’s kind of an interpretive song...
yes it is about creeping on a neighbor through the window but songs are open to interpretation.
@@emil.pinarch So? How is that make this not a love song?
@@cablevamp3163 Dave Matthews literally said this in one of his interviews
'You wear nothing but you wear it so well.'
Beautiful lyrics right .
tied up and twisted the way I'd like to be.
Ristau it’s the greatest line in the song.
The Second half of this song when every musician just goes all out gives me chills every time. Creates such a magical moment in the song / on stage.
Seriously, one of the sexiest songs EVER!
I'm happy someone gets it
Jen22w EXACTLY *swoons* ahhh
Absolutely! Remember holding my ex wife close to this song long ago...a fond memory indeed.
Yes! It still makes me blush sometimes when I hear it lol
@@grapplermag330 yes I love you Dave Carter Boyd and Stefan
Some songs are just meant to be heard live.
Helena Bell I got to see him live recently. This song was amazing.
basically all dave matthews songs
So true
I feel like true fans come here and listen to this whenever they think they are about to fall in love. 🌍👍
I remember back when I was in middle school making fun of some girl because she liked DMB. Now that I am older I see how truly amazing they actually are.
You better go apologize to that girl! Lol!
MrAflac9916 That's what I was going to say! LOL When I was in high school I only knew Where Are You Going? Haven't heard that one in ages.
Zdawg1029 Silly boys.. ;)
yOUR FIRST INSTINCT WAS CORRECT. yOU WIMP.
Dude, i am 37 and live in Italy. In here we Always respected them and never understand why (in the US) you made fun of them. They are amazing!!!
that drummer and that bassist are ridiculous
+Eric Bryan I'm pretty sure that the style of this song is due to Dave's South African upbringing.
bassist was way off in the intro.
Oh I meant my comment as a compliment!
Eric Bryant I know right it was the best thing to get a black drummer specially 😮❤️
Yea Carter is an animal on the drums
Damn this might actually be the best song ever.
Put down the pipe.
True!
Agreed it’s an EPIC song & timeless
Its a unique catalyst. I like their work.
Ever heard of Leigh Nash?
Def. in my world..
"I'll be your Dixie chicken if you'll be my Tennessee lamb..
and we can walk together down in Dixie land." How awesome.
❤️
That line was dope.
When I was 8 my mum would play this song, now I'm 15 and this is the 1 reason I love playing guitar. This song is the song of my childhood and I have so many happy memories from this song. I just love it
That's so cool, never give up playing. No matter what you do with your life, keep music a part of it, it will define who you are. Love and Light.
she played you a song about having sex and BDSM? lol ok then
Shhh, he still doesn't get it.
She said her Mum played it. As in listening to it... Not directly to her.. Wow. lol. Anywho, glad you picked something up from the older generation. It is great to sample all sorts you never know what will strike a chord. :)
She was listening to this song when you were conceived.
Love looking back at concerts in the 90s & very early 00s & not seeing one single smartphone in the air. This crowd during this concert... pure bliss!
I can't imagine how people don't enjoy Dave's music. Especially this song...what's not to like?!?! Love all the instruments used and the lyrics and rhythm are perfect
brian kulak His voice. He sings really... weird. Almost like he's doing a character impersonation lol.
Music is great. But the lyrics and subject matter is f'ed up.
This song has no head or tail. It's all over the place. Horrid vocals to top it all.
I may only be 16 but I know good music when I hear it and this is song is just brilliant I am such a big fan of Dave Matthews
Jim Gindele Defiantly! I agree completely!
Still gives me goosebumps even after all these years!
This song makes me want to cry because of how great it is.
Me too
:')
Completely mesmerized. Appreciate this song so much more at 35 then I did as a teenager...
no offence to my "virginian" friends but you're listening to the best that ever came out of your beautiful state. what an artist!!
Al Huggins wasn't Patsy Kline from Winchester Virginia
Except, that Dave Matthews is actually South African. That's his true home.
Guns, Muscle Cars and More .. think that's why I always felt like I am seeing Hanse cronje... Respect...
I thought he’s from South Africa???

My Bucket List has Dave Matthews Band in it, next time he comes to Wisconsin even if I have to go all by myself!
Same. Even if I have to fly to the US just to meet them
Those who have known true love and lost, this will cut right through you. So beautiful. Thank you DMB
This one and #41 are my favorites. Chills every time.
I really, really wish to hear/see them live one day.
I will never forget the summer of 1996! Thanks for that kiss. Best years of my life. This song will always be my time machine.
grew up on dave Matthews band, they have great classic songs. this is deff a favorite!
I never get tired of this song, this is a great song. It's a love song about a young man, or what he perceives to be love, or what he thinks love is.
Omg this song is giving me life!!!! 😍😍😍 Never gets old!!

I'm 18 and am ashamed that music today can't still be like this
Love this song. The buildup to the end is amazing.
i'm 58 and love his music - can't find anyone to sing to me like that anymore!!
The 90s were F-ing great...and not the same since!
Can never tire of this song and Dave Matthews. Love you all: )
this man is the 8th highest earning lead singer in music history
And he deserves every penny along with the group.it amazes me how someone music can make u go on a journey when u close ur eyes and listen
Julian Klein ...and hails from South Africa!
Garo Frawley from 2000-2010 the band was the highest paid/grossing touring band in the country.. for a whole decade..

I love this song!! Thank you for putting it out here!! I play the sax, so I absolutely can relate....
Better than the studio version IMO. I wore this song out back in the day. Lol Love it!

Same man!
Always brings tears to my eyes each time I hear this song once in a while. . .dunno why, but this really is one of those songs that brings back a lot of memories. . .just Epic. . .
To play this song on the guitar you have to turn you left hand into a claw! Really challenging :) Gj Dave
James Allen it's a great exercise for you hand. after you get over the rsi it causes
It’s pretty easy
Try playing satellite, you have to turn it into an octopus
Here in 2019... this song is sooooooo good. This was such a good era of music.
It's a shame that cRAP music gets all the shine nowadays and gold like DMB remains nothing but a memory by today's standards. This song is beautiful.
Paid to Drive! It’s EPIC & Timeless
The Sound is LIVE..
Paid to Drive! Hell yes!
the whole early nineties was gangster rap that had all the shine sooo
I was born in 2004 and have been appreciating old music such as this, soul, R&B, Jazz, and of course rock n roll. Don’t worry, there’s still hope!!👌👏
Absolutely perfect performance. No one can cover this and sound better. Just cannot be sung better or arranged better. Spot on, perfect music. amazing
Great song. My boyfriend recently just turned me on to Dave Matthews.

One of the best live performances I've ever seen

the piano really makes this. I wish they had it on the studio version
I didn't even notice the piano until you pointed it out. It is hard to have this many instruments work well together and not just clash and just sound like noise. But it is done beautifully here!
+KneedleKnees Yes. The piano makes this version even more richer than already is...
Awesome song. I never will ever get tired of this song
Such a beautifully dirty song. . .
When I got married, my wife and I danced to this for our first dance. You rock Dave :D

Humans can be so beautiful :)
Indeed
Thank god we can.
We are also able of being so destructive and evil.
It’s people like Dave that make me believe we have a chance
Love Dave Matthews so much!!!!! Please come back to Australia soon Dave!!!
I bought this and still have it on VHS.
This man's love life is not a hair short of brilliance.
Question: who dislikes DMB? EVER??? And the fact that there's over 300 more just like that initial person truly frightens me!
My dad doesn't. Not sure why, they are such a talented band. This song especially shows there talent!
Still the best song hearing again after all these years. First saw video and it was great. Love the acoustics.
Played on September 11? At Continental Airlines Arena? With that song name? L00minati confirmed. o_o
Damn
wtf lol
September 11, 1999...
Mohamed Nadi wow, best comment ever
Deborah Payne Thank you. What a smart person you are to understand my comment.
Super.
This is one of the greatest songs ever written.
still amazing!!! WOW!
Cruising, my windows down, carefree in that moment, in a 1990's sunset breeze... the journey is long but i am enjoying every second of this.
I remember playing this song over and over again on my discman while growing up in the early 2000s in Southern Mexico.
best love song ever
This song never gets old. Thanks for the memories.
Crash into life before it crashes into me.
this is, in my opinion, the definition of music. the instruments in this song go together in a way that i have never heard before, whether live or in the studio version. it's just amazing.
How do 231 people give this a "thumbs down?" Do they not know how to operate a mouse?
They do it because they missed the experience of being in high school when this came out and this song being responsible for many romantic encounters with high school girls. This song was like a free pass to sex back when I was in school. Didnt matter what type of genre of music a person liked. This song being played equaled sex happening.
Speechless. True music. Such symmetry. This performance gets in your face and you want it there.
shared for one…and only one.
seeing so much talent at one place..makes me MAD!!
AAAARGH!
DMB you are the best.
baby it's so true you crash into me
Just the fact this was played 5 minutes from my house makes it so much better.
Dave can make any bad situation better
