Omar, I can feel you. Dave got me through my first deployment back in 2003. He's been my rock every since. Whenever I need to get out of my head I just put DMV on and turn it up and I'm good.
It was really good but then Jeff keeps going for too long. I can’t take his squawking every time he jams. Too much of the same. Roi had finesse and knew how to build a crescendo and then bring it back down. Jeff likes to stay at a frenzy for wayyy too long and it takes away from the music. Carter was working hard! Carter is a drum god!
@J B @41Gecko Nah. Nothing was wrong with Jeff's solo. Can't just listen to it like it's on the radio. Gotta have high-end speakers, high-end bourbon, and a high-end cigar. 🥃 Y'all listening to it wrong!

This song reminds me of a Tuesday, years ago, when I got up and eat 5 hard boiled eggs. Feeling full, I went for a walk. Trying to beat a previous record, I chose a ten mile trail near my house. No don't get me wrong, I've walked mire than 10 miles in my life. But ten all at once would be a record/personal best. Walking relaxes me and self improvement is always a plus. Setting goals and achieving them is one of life's simple pleasures. It really can be anything; make your bed for a week, go off soda for a month, stop cursing for a day, say hello to anyone you meet for 3 days, eat no red meat for a month, make ten people smile today...you get my point. Anyway I digress....where was I...oh ya, my walk. Boy ten miles in one stretch! Started off great then the song ended and I turned around. Fuck it I will try tomorrow!

Meh 🫤, I thought one of the ‘best’ I’ve ever seen performed live on YT, or anywhere else, was the duet with Dave (and Band), along with Warren Haynes in several 👏 ‘covers’ of Neil Young’s Cortez the Killer. There were a total of 3 around the same time - @ MSG, Central Park, and a 3rd venue. I’m going on 70, and having listened to a lot of DMB over the years, Dave’s voice (not 🎸) seems to be rather inconsistent, depending on what ‘pitch’ he’s in (personally I think he’s 👍 better singing in a deeper tone, and not a higher, almost ‘falsetto’ one).
WHAT A PHENOMENAL PERFORMANCE!!!!! I just had the most intense emotional experience from watching this video. (I’m at work surrounded by people) Goosebumps, hair standing up on the back of my neck, and overwhelmed by emotion..to the point where I’m crying. Never expected this to happen. Wowww! Beautiful music penetrating ones soul! A performance for the record books.
You are so fortunate. Music does not affect everyone like this. It is sad. I wish it would. It's such an amazing feeling/experience. Not all music does it for me. I have come up with the term *"Wanderift"* music. *Wanderift* music takes you here and there and around a little bit then brings you back emotionally. Sometimes fast sometimes slow, but always wandering and drifting. The artists that make this music are Virtuoso. I use this word in a slightly different meaning than the definition. They are virtuoso in composition more than technique. They may also have outstanding technique as well. I have seen people with amazing technique, yet they could not put together wanderift music. This summer I will see DMB.
I had song on heavy rotation during the mid nineties, with a tight knit group of friends that I spent every day either working together at the same job, or rock climbing and we listened DMB every day, all day for years. Now that I’m older, and we have all drifted out on our separate ways, the emotion and nostalgia that came flooding back watching this was overwhelming. I love my life and the family I have now, but I also miss the “good ole days”. The irony is that Dave lives in my neighborhood while my friends all live in states far away.
I'm going to show #205, sometimes I feel like the crowd is gone. So amazing to hear the stories about recover and happiness though this song. Personally this band took the gun out of my mouth, that was 20+years ago but I'm so happy to hear similar stories
This is what humanity should show to one another!! The rhythmic vibbrations of the greatest expressions of love for all ...Dave and Band are one....Why I waited a lifetime...to find!!😊
SO..BUTTERY..SMOOTH!! There is no drummer like Carter. Always back there, wearing his gloves, chewing on gum, with a smile on his face. He’s been among my greatest influences on drums for over 20 years
I just started LISTENING to DMB last year, after like 30 years of casually listening to a few songs a few times a year. This is my new favorite DMB song now.
This has always been my favorite song of Dave’s. This version doesn’t disappoint. Always astounds me DMB doesn’t get the recognition-they get passed off as a frat boy band...can’t be farther from the truth.
I know they used to be considered a frat boy band, but I’m a senior in college and most people I know can’t stand dmb (they don’t deserve to graduate, I know) my generation (at least at my school) thinks of them as an old folks band. Shame on them. This is peak musical talent.
Don't forget that in the beginning, I don't know if it still holds true now, but they encouraged the audience to record and film their performances and distribute them. They didn't do all the copyright stuff that other musicians did.

@@DMTsmoke wouldn't have been easier to get your point across just saying every other band in the history of music instead of doing an eightball and typing for 6 hours with every band name you could think up or Google?.... just sayin!
Someone made the comment about Dave placing himself in the background while he allows all these wonderful musicians to do what they do. Dave is talented in so many ways, yet he does lay back and promotes his band's talents. I love to see and hear so many talented musicians having fun and doing what they do best. DMB took music to a new level. I grew up on jazz and needed no affirmation, but Dave and his band made jazz popular, enjoyable and listenable. Is that a word? Who cares?
What I've always loved so much about the DMB, is that they are not just a group of musicians playing a song, they are playing music, always making music together as they perform... MAGIC!
Two oft the things that bring me the most joy to watch are people playing music together, and people dancing. I love the drummer's facial expressions so much.
Seriously, that's one of the coolest conversations in music I have ever seen. You could fall in love with the drummers soul immediately...for starters.
Playing with Jeff Coffin in high school band I always new he was destined to be a great musician! Awsome display of musicianship with that solo with Carter absolutely amazing! It doesn’t get any better. Their all fantastic! Congratulations!
Holy shit! This is the illusive version of this song, of which I haven't been able to find the video for for several years! This is by far the best version and I'm tearing up that I've finally found it.
If I'm not mistaken, this is the Bristol show, which appears on the Europe '09 deluxe edition DVD. The Lucca, Italy show, which is the audio component to said album, is way better audibly. But, alas, no official form of video.
Chills the whole way thru. Was working on something and just had to stop and marvel at the perfection taking place in front of me. I have a wide range of musical interests, but I always come back to Dave and the band. Some of the best moments of my life have happened with them playing. Thanks for sharing this.
Tim Reynolds is an absolute rock god! Why does he never make the list of best guitar players of all time? Most underrated guitar player in my book. And I know he plays way more than just guitar. He can do anything. I literally just wept during his solo.
Can’t stop listening... 21 minutes feel like only three.... absolutely mesmerising. I was lucky enough to see DMB twice in 2002/03 ( I was a Dave head, club, books everything ..) . I don’t exaggerate when I say that Live at Luther College saved my life in my college years in Fargo, North Dakota ... that CD.. I must have played it thousands of times. Especially at night in the painting studio....All the others too, Crash, Under The Tables and Dreaming ...LISTENER SUPPORTED... until the last ones in 2002.... but Live at Luther.. my God my life is marked by that album. Thank you Dave and DMB!!! Forever grateful to have known your music, thank you for soothing my soul. I couldn’t imagine my life without your music, it made me - and it - more tender.
No band like this true musician s with soul and heart thank you for incredible songs and music the vibe is so positive they kill it .Most underrated band ever .Every time haveing bad day i put on DMB and takes me away God Bless this incredible band .Zorba NJ
It might be difficult to believe..but I've never heard their music and I am an 80s kid! I heard the name, but not the music. Now I am discovering it and I love it! And this particular jamming is sick! Well, lucky me!
@@chriskaprys DMB is special! Not a lot a of bands can match their energy and musicianship. Pink Floyd, Rush, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, and a few others can.

It's wild how incredibly underrated Carter is, he's almost never mentioned in those "great drummer" conversations... he's an absolute monster
I said that to someone I know and he rolled his eyes back. Like ya OK. I’m not friends with him anymore ha.
He is also the happiest drummer I've ever seen.
Yeah I’m glad he is known more now. I’ve always loved his killer smile and I wonder what gum he chews on stage and how many pieces he goes through….

This is an absolute masterclass in live performance. Doesn't get any better than that.
Agreed. Pure dominance. And the way they smile during all of it, it’s like “man I can’t believe I’m involved in this.”

I'm going to show #205, sometimes I feel like the crowd is gone. So amazing to hear the stories about recover and happiness though this song. Personally this band took the gun out of my mouth, that was 20+years ago but I'm so happy to hear similar stories
I was ready for the bridge this winter, then I heard 1995 Lie in our Graves and DMB is my happy place now. 8/07/23 8:00 pm
He’s been among my greatest influences on drums for over 20 years
This crowd witnessed magic from 9:00 to 12:00... 😊
1997.....Yall wouldnt understand. But dang. It was something
I love how carter’s just blowing bubbles with his gum as if he’s just sitting there and NOT doing amazing shit on the drums.
😻👊🍻🐈🔥🔥🔥
Pete Gall he's always so chill
Carter's the man!
Dude exactly. Always smiling too.
Yep. I cant even. I love him like you.
This is my first time really listening to Dave Matthew's Band. Absolutely Incredible!
So many bands just try to blow through their setlist. DMB takes their music to another level live
Time constraints.
no matter the genre, we are extremely blessed to have music. if only for a moment, we can live in peace.
That sax & drums solo! It gives me tears, smile and goosebumps at the same time. :)
You can almost see coffin being touched by the hands of god in this solo
@@reymaldonado1428 wow! Thought the same thing! Its like devine intervention!
::: 2022, I just posted the same feelings! Timeless treasure!
Who is watching in 2024? ❤
I just started LISTENING to DMB last year, after like 30 years of casually listening to a few songs a few times a year. This is my new favorite DMB song now.
Me ❤
🙋🏻♂️
I am
Headed for the Gorge soon!
He's gotta be the happiest drummer I've ever see...and that sax is badass
How lucky are we? To forever have this greatest live performance of one of DMB’s best songs.
First after quarantine, I'm catching a a Dave show!
Yep, same here! Then a Tedeschi Trucks Band show. Then . . . .
Im already looking into tickets
@@damianbiondo812 Both incredible live shows. TTB jams FAR less nowadays. DMB, however, has always jammed out everything live and it's amazing.
Welp it’ll probably be next year
Yessss, INDEED!!!!
Coffin’s solo is the most amazing things I’ve ever heard in my life. He absolutely shredded it……
Nothin' more enjoyable than when the band gets in Tha POCKET!!!
And also when Carter is destroying the set!!!!
There's music coming from everywhere and that drummer keeping it all together. That whole band had their sh!t completely together!!!
Wow. Been listening to #41 for 20+yrs, one of the very best live ones!!?
same here
I think so. I saw them in 97 for the first time smh...👊🍻🐈🔥🔥🔥
same here 😆😆
Best instrumental trio ever performed in human history. LITERALLY SHOW ME BETTER. C H E M I S T R Y ! ! !
Love of music and musicianship. Cheers mate
Totalmente de acuerdo
rush
A seven person trio?
I've been listening to this song since 1996 and will never get tired of it!
It's the perfect song. Fits any mood, can express any emotion.
I graduated high school in 96 from Charlottesville Va! Greatest time of my life!
Same ❤
This might be the greatest musical performance in the history of the human race
Yep, right up there with Beethoven’s Fifth. Wasn’t around then but heard it was awesome!
Watching that sax player and drummer is like looking at a golden rose made of diamonds.
The guitar player is really good too. I got this song called number 4 I bet you guys could do something really special with it.
EVERY member of the Dave Matthews band is incredible. What an incredibly talented group of musicians! Wow!
These guys just don’t play the song. They jam !! They Improvise and just feel the music ! Love it
Nothing better to lift your mood than to watch these musicians loving what they do.
Somewhere, Leroi is smiling every time Jeff plays the solo.
And Tim is crapping himself having to follow that! 😂
Just wow. Sax and drum break. Its what music is supposed to be.
This has always been my favorite song of Dave’s. This version doesn’t disappoint. Always astounds me DMB doesn’t get the recognition-they get passed off as a frat boy band...can’t be farther from the truth.
they only get passed off as a frat-boy band because of how their popularity initially spread.
My frat bro’s and I use to bro so hard at his concerts. I’m fist pumping in my car right now actually
Robby Owens
😂
Folks, it doesn't get much better than this!
yes it does... like.. every version with LeRoi

@@DMTsmoke what an incredible list my guy
@@DMTsmoke wouldn't have been easier to get your point across just saying every other band in the history of music instead of doing an eightball and typing for 6 hours with every band name you could think up or Google?.... just sayin!
Incredible Sax. He went straight mental. Amazing work by all.
One of the best jam sessions like ever, thank you Dave😁
Makes me think of everyone i have ever loved at once whether they are here or gone or just not communicative.
Who cares?
Absolutely True musicianship the entire band!…..Awesome performance!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥….. this is 15 years ago, and I still watch it almost every day!!!🤯🤯🤯🤯
What I've always loved so much about the DMB, is that they are not just a group of musicians playing a song, they are playing music, always making music together as they perform...
Cool! Glad to see the success -- he deserves it!
Cool he's beast mode. Whole band is great
But, alas, no official form of video.
best news ive heard in a year
I started crying before it even started playing. Such a special song. #DMBLife
😹
Wuss
Double click like on this. I feel ya ✌️
Everytime i hear this song I am transported back to the first time I heard it live...same emotions, same goosebumps...the shows are just so epic
EVERYTIME!!!! U said it perfectly
❤ I can't wait to see them live
Chills the whole way thru. Was working on something and just had to stop and marvel at the perfection taking place in front of me. I have a wide range of musical interests, but I always come back to Dave and the band. Some of the best moments of my life have happened with them playing. Thanks for sharing this.
Tim Reynolds is an absolute rock god! Why does he never make the list of best guitar players of all time? Most underrated guitar player in my book. And I know he plays way more than just guitar. He can do anything. I literally just wept during his solo.
When I was younger, Carter himself literally changed my experience with music.
Just grooving with music and the lyrics AWESOME ❤
It might be difficult to believe..but I've never heard their music and I am an 80s kid! I heard the name, but not the music. Now I am discovering it and I love it! And this particular jamming is sick! Well, lucky me!
Welcome! They’re pretty special. ✌️
@@chriskaprys DMB is special! Not a lot a of bands can match their energy and musicianship. Pink Floyd, Rush, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, and a few others can.
Why do so many people have no idea who they are???
Found Dave’s Music and he has helped me out of some of the dark times over the years and brought the good times even better!
These guys made love to the audience this night. This song is once in a lifetime
He has inspired me Not to be any part of suicide period . He has helped me stay alive ...is such a good place to be. . . Really has done me wonders "simply put friends 😅 Bless all musicians ! They too are like Doctors aren't they. .😊
Carter just exhale the energy of the whole band... I watched them live in 2019 and damn, it's pure joy and excitement. He is there, always smiling, loving what he's doing.
Drums and Sax were in desperate need of a cigarette after this gig. Just amazing.
