Started listening to Dave when I was 51. Hard rocker here all my life but folk music as well. Woodstock gal. DMB gave me another shot in my middle age. I love them. Seen them 8 times in 5 years
I have followed u from the beginning. U have got me through the worst times of my life. U r a beautiful person inside n out. Jam on forever in the soul.❤😂🎉🎉🎉
Where have I been? I am 67 yr old woman who was grateful to see Farm Aid 2024. I love Neil Young. I saw Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds for the 1st time. I am a brand new fan & am learning all of his music. DMB is fantastic! 💙
I’ve made a LOT of sh*t decisions in my life. Choosing to idolize this man 30 years ago; not one of them. I never would have wished for this - I’ve got mixed feelings about the hall but, if they’re happy, I’m happy.
I’m so glad he didn’t read off the teleprompter. It felt more heartfelt this way, though I wish he didn’t feel so rushed. Mary J Blige took her sweet time. They should have as well.
Hey there, I live in Charlottesville VA and I've actually seen Boyd around here and there this last year. Randomly in Walmart and then outside a restaurant. Despite being popped for a DUI recent he seems like he's doing alright ❤
The fact that you said "this guy" instead of "these guys" says a lot and is worth pointing out, because I think it reflects what many of us fans understand : Much, if not most, of the DMB criticism out there is not directed toward the band, but to Dave himself, usually because 1) they don't like his voice, 2) they associate him with some sort of commercialized preppy frat boy vibe, and/or 3) they're only familiar with the tunes they've heard on the radio and aren't familiar with their catalogue or live performances. Whether you fall into one of those camps or not, a random internet comment probably isn't going to change your mind, so I won't push any opinions as if they are facts - to each their own. BUT, I do think (hope) that part of you recognizes, especially in terms of our culture's political context, that the tribalism of an us-versus-them, either/or, my-side-right/your-side-wrong mentality is part of a problem more than it is part of a solution, and that if we want to move beyond standing on each other's shoulders and kicking each other's teeth in, we have to realize the value of listening to those we think or have been told are our opponents and making an effort to see where they're coming from and how their views might be valid despite our own. That said, personal preferences aside, I would point to a few facts that might help one understand why millions of people are of the opinion that the DMB has earned their spot among giants: - Seven #1 studio albums. Only two groups have had more: U2 and The Beatles. What's more impressive is that DMB is MUCH BETTER LIVE. - Among the top touring bands of all time. How many bands have made Central Park a concert venue, or after 30 years can still sell out Madison Square Garden? - Every member of the band is regarded by critics and peers as, if not among the top musicians in their field, extremely talented. John Popper, Trey Anastasio, Victor Wooten, Bela Fleck, Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes, Robert Randolph, Bob Weir, Carlos Santana, Derek Trucks, Gary Clark Jr, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, to name a few, don't generally play with mediocre musicians. - 14 Grammy nominations, including 3 for Best Rock Album While there are many more credentials, I would argue that just two of the four I listed are enough to put them in a HOF discussion. That's just my opinion, of course. PS - I'd be remiss not to mention that Carter is widely regarded by the drumming community as one of the best of all time, by the fan community as THE best of all time, and I'd go so far as to suggest that at least in his prime Carter could play ANY piece of music that any drummer has played (and probably do it better), while no other drummers could do the same, particularly the stuff Carter has played. He's THAT good; Dave got lucky and knows it. PPS - one aspect of the band's music that is often overlooked is Dave's guitar work, which is about as musically complex as you'll find for a rhythm guitar, and as millions of others who were inspired by the band to learn guitar will testify, it's notoriously difficult to play AND sing what Dave appears to do with fluid ease. He also brought [an acoustic] rhythm guitar to the forefront of mainstream - his style and techniques, particularly in the 90s when he was new, were extremely unique and mostly unheard-of in the popular mainstream. If you're curious, look up when he played "The Stone" on the Charlie Rose show solo with his acoustic. PPPS - I do hope the time I've spent writing this was enough to encourage at least one person to acknowledge the band's musical ability and legitimacy, even if they're not a fan. And if someone is open to giving them a chance, I'd suggest listening to the album that introduced many of us to their real essence, 1995's "Live at Red Rocks" Rock on! 🤘🏽
6:27. Yeah I agree Dave. Phish can say we did not get in as a badge of honor and a proud accomplishment. I get it. Phish has No hits. DWD does not count as MTV music video for me. And I love them in part because they have no hits. I am a Lifetime DMB fan but I am even a bigger PHan of the even better jazz band. Phish the best band on earth. I love Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and Dave is close to correct on them being the greatest. They are top 10 for sure But no Boyd Tinsley …..AWKWARD. To erase him from 1993-2016 feels like he died like LeRoi Moore Wherever you are after we abandoned you to save our career. Dave chose money over scandal and I get it. I would to but I love Boyd even if he is into boys and young boys particularly. I miss e pills too Butch Taylor was the far superior keyboard player. I LiKE Buddy Strong on organ tunes like Angel and Everyday where his style works but he is a king of one genre only whereas Butch Taylor was a Jack of all genres and trades Give us back Butch I know it will not happen but he is the far greater musician. Or allow back the pedophile and forgive him like Jesus forgives us when we humble ourselves and return the Christmas song is the best lyrics to a Dave song along with the dreaming tree
Proud to be a lifetime fan

I've seen them 54 times - It's about time!!!
Just when I couldn’t love him more ❤
I have followed u from the beginning. U have got me through the worst times of my life. U r a beautiful person inside n out. Jam on forever in the soul.❤😂🎉🎉🎉
These guys are my heroes, total deserve to be inducted.
@Dave Matthews Band Thanks for so many years of AWESOMELY GREAT MUSIC!!!🎉❤
This was the most Dave Matthews speech ever
Thanks Dave. I cried a little. 🥹
Same, this band has lived on for so long.

Thanks for taking your time to waste my time in reading your opinion that doesn’t really mean sh*t.
Why the mixed feelings?
It’s amazing that all 4 musicians which are the driving force of Farm Aid are now in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Glad John D’earth was mention along with Millers were the magic began. Congrats boys
Saw DMD many times Atlanta! Great memories!
Loved it when he said on letternan...he married a doctor, 'I married up'.
I love it! I feel like I can listen to Davespeak all day long😂
I’m so glad he didn’t read off the teleprompter. It felt more heartfelt this way, though I wish he didn’t feel so rushed. Mary J Blige took her sweet time. They should have as well.
anyone who has ever seen dave live knows a teleprompter wouldnt matter. he's almost adhd like. he's always scattershot.
REALLY sad that Boyd was not there. He REALLY should have been there but glad that Dave mentioned him.
Maybe he didn't want to attend. It's possible
They don’t want the sexual controversy. Dave has had many affairs and sexual encounters
DMB are Legends! Sad it took so long. SAD we ALL need more black violin in our lives. But get it.
I don’t know any of their songs although everyone has always loved them lol
Was hoping he might advocate for Phish to get their due. Pioneers of the live music experience, festivals and just fuckin good dudes.
It is weird they aren’t in yet but they will one day. DMB just had way way more mainstream success than phish so it makes sense they’d get in first
70 shows for me since 2003. Happy they got in. Dave is a weirdo tho! Carter is THE MAN! Happy to see them acknowledge Boyd.
It was nice to include Boyd in his speech although he made it almost sound like he was dead.

Why was this not on TV? Or did I miss it?
Broadcasted on Disney+. 👎🏻
I fuyll on expcted him to thank "pockets"!! the best truck driver in the world!!
Did he mention Tim in all that? I know he was being sure he got everyone. Well done gents!!! DMB❤
He did.
Tim was the only member he said "he loved". Adorable!!!❤
Did you even watch the video or are you that lazy?
what about tim
They got in before a much greater band of that and this era... sounds a bit Phishy....
Wish Boyd could have been there. He was been part of there sound at one time.
the fiddler was a diddler
"at one time" He was literally part of the best music the band ever put out.

Far from HOF worthy but most of the inductees are…Eminem, DMB, just to name a few. Iron Maiden and KISS are way more deserving.
ridiculous statement(opinion), but its yours to make
eh....so many others that should of been or need to still be in way before this guy. JMHO

@MetaForming lol Dude Get a job. Appreciate ur opinion but geesh.
Freaking insane that Stefan was in high school when he started playing with DMB.
Discount Sting!! MUSICC FOR 90s kids who go to Starbucks and binge watch “Friends”
If he didn't support ha mas, I would have been thrilled for him. As it is nope. He should think before he speaks.
He missed thanking Coran. Oopsie
steve lillywhite snubbed again
He's not a member of the band so he doesn't get inducted.

I mean. They kind of got rushed because others went so long. Dave didn’t even thank Tim and that’s his “best friend”
