A lot of people don't realize how brilliant of a songwriter/guitarist he really is. His songs are incredibly complex and unique but so catchy at the same time. Should definitely be in the hall of fame.

This band was the soundtrack of my high school and college years. Those early records still bring so much nostalgia for me. Tons of great memories attached to them.
If music were relationships, Dave Matthews Band was my first crush. They will always have a near and dear hold on my heart. I’m so glad I found them. The world is a better place with Dave and all his lovely band mates making music.

#41 and Grey Street could turn any non-fan into a fanatic, especially if you see them play those live. Those two songs are as perfect as a song can get - and both beautiful enough for an extended live jam that you could listen to for 20 minutes and wished it went on forever.

He opened Pittsburgh with #41 and played Grey Street Friday…that made my night. Only thing that could have are it even better would have been adding Two Step.
True story- 1997 went with friends to DMB in Hartford CT, not a huge fan myself but always up for a a gig. My best friend proceeded to get hammered and she was laying flat on the ground. Worried about her, I was sitting next to her talking. All she could say was ‘did they play TOO MUCH?’ I yelled back at her, “they’ve been playing 4 hours!!!”
Didn’t know it was the name of one of their songs 😂😂😂

Similar story: First time I saw Dave more than 25 years ago was with my brother and his girlfriend. Dave started singing, and I said, "Oh I love this song! What's it called?" Lisa said, "It's the Song that Jane Likes."
"OK," I responded, "but what's the name of it?" A true "who's on first moment!" When my brother passed away last year, we put the lyrics to Bartender on his funeral card.

TOTALLY AGREE!! It is MY FaVoRiTe song, EvAh. I became disabled & needed to use a cane (yuk) or walking stick. I bought a craggy stick & decided, since it was going to shows w/me that I'd put DMB stickers on it. 1st, Dancing Nancy, 2nd, cross signs Grey Street/At The End of The World. It will be with me again in Camden, last time was NYC Madison Square Garden for my birthday, Nov 2021😅. CAN'T WAIT TIL JULY!! Blessings.

His breakdown on satellite is so confirming to what I noticed as a guitar player singer. Because I been doing it for 18 years and I still can't sing and play most of Dave's songs simultaneously. He's easily top 3 most hard to play and sing at the same time music. This is why he's so underrated As a guitarist imo
I’ve been learning to play Satellite for almost 10 years and I still can’t play it well! As he said, unnecessarily difficult but love it 😂
I'm not sure because I can play satellite among and sing it decently (among other Matthews songs) but I can't do a lot of Mayer. But maybe I'm bottled necked by my vocal range as I have to put some concerted effort with Mayer whereas Dave's range is within mine without too much effort if that makes sense?
I was surprised when asked about its roots, they didn't mention it started as "After Her" (which I personally prefer).
Dude is such a genius. Their music is just so far beyond what people realize. When The World Ends is such a great song and the line “when the world is, we’ll be burning one” 😆 should have been a single.
This guy is my hero. So humble but so brilliant. Crash will forever be my fav DMB song. It’s the sweetest dirty song a person can write. Dave is a legend.

“Crash into me” almost always brings me back to early morning VH1 watching before I hopped on the bus to go to school in junior high. It’s amazing how music can do that!!
I grew up with a warehouse member, my wonderful mother. DMB was the soundtrack of my childhood. I have grown into this amazing music and Dave is the best. I’ve never been to a better show.
I will carry these classics with me forever.

Same story here. Mom’s been a Warehouse member since forever. Grew up nearly exclusively on all the live stuff. Can’t get enough of it now.
I raised 5 kids on Dave and very proud that they all appreciate them and enjoy their music today.

He’s as intelligent, humble and compassionate as he is talented. I feel so fortunate to have witnessed them play at the Blind Pig in 1994. We all felt a sort of shift in reality after listening to them play, it was surreal. I haven’t experienced a live performance like it ever since. I think Dave Matthew’s voice has a lot to do with that incredible energy.
I could never stop loving Dave, he has such a beautiful way with words.

Before These Crowded Streets is the magnus opus of the band. I'll never forget the burnt CD's of Lillywhite sessions leak floating around campus, what an amazing time for music!
I could listen to Dave read the phone book.
He's so captivating yet effortless and insightful all at the same time.

Crash into me will always have a special place in my heart. It still gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.

I'm glad #41 was included. Definitely one of DMB's best. I remember being so excited that they played it on Letterman. I taped it, then recorded the audio to either cassette or miniDisc, and would listen to it all the time.

my mothers family is Six Nation Iroquois/Cayuga/Oswegatchie and the first time I heard Dont Drink The Water it moved me to tears I immediately knew what it was about on first listen. I was a huge DMB fan going to shows since '94 and it leveled me flat...still does. masterpiece.

Just appreciate how honest and relatable he is. What stuck out to me is how he talked about the song Crash is and how it's different to him being in his 50s.
Dave has been one of the most important constants in my life. I've never met the guy, but I feel so close to him.

After over 20 years of shows, I met Dave last summer. I completely forgot everything I would have wanted to say but he was super nice and made the experience everything I would have hoped for.

Dave Matthews Band is one of my Dad's favorite bands alongside Steely Dan.
I grew to love Dave Matthews Band more and more as I learned about jazz.
They are a very impressive and inspiring ensemble.
Truly a legendary group. Their live shows are amazing saw them back in college hope to see them again
DMB holds such a special place in my heart but his live collaborations with Tim Reynolds were the single most incredible performances ever!
I didn't scroll through all of the comments, but when he was talking about #41, it hit me that he sounded like Bill Murray with the tones of his voice and the mannerisms in his inflections. Struck me as funny when it hit me and I just wanted to see if anyone else hears it as well....
So grateful for each and every band member, but- especially for The incredible poet, lyricist Dave is. Thank you times a million bazillion ❤❤❤

I am 32 & growing up, I would always here their songs through out my life but when I met my spouse, I really truly grew to love them! We had the blessing to seeing them 3 years in a row(full weekends)in south Florida & LOVED every minute!!! We welcomed our 1rst in November & for my birthing playlist most of the live albums were playing in the background! Our son is 6 months now & we play the live shows for him & he truly just is in awe! We watch him stare at carter play lol it’s so adorable!!!!We are beyond happy for him to grow up with Dave & the guys!!!!

I thank my dad for playing his music when I was a kid and teaching me to listen to music. Not just appreciate the sound but all of it, the lyrics and the soul an artists puts into it.

For me its songs like seek up, 41, dreaming tree that really captures everything that is dmb. Lyrics, build up intros, long solos, ability for the songs to evolve over time, and the way they can just entirely switch up a song seamlessly.
So many songs draw you and just take you for an up and down ride.
Saw him at a coffee shop in Seattle once. He came in and the barista said, "Hey Dave" like he was any other local.
Was it Zoka on 56th by chance? Or something on 45th?
