My father was born in San turca
Who is the guide and what's the name of the tour company ?
As a native, here are some things that you need to know if you visit our island. The government is totally inept, so don't expect to get anything done in a timely manner. Roads are a disaster, with potholes that can swallow your car, so drive 3-dimensionally. Drivers don't obey traffic laws, red lights are a suggestion, backing up on the highway is common, exit signs are AFTER the exit, etc. Sales tax is the highest in the nation! Power goes out constantly. Mosquitos will carry you away, so bring repellant! You can drink and drive! (not to be confused with driving while intoxicated) What I mean that if you are driving with your group soaking up the scenery, a nice cold Medalla in your hand is allowed. You can drink anywhere! Some of the best foods are in street side kiosks. Dingy wooden shacks along the roads almost everywhere. If you see a lot of cars parked along the road, usually indicates the food is good. Most of us speak or understand english, they may not be fluent, but can function. WARNING! Puertoricans tend to smile alot, especially when a tourist asks them something in english. DON'T misinterpret this as they are mentally challenged etc. This is just a natural reaction. If you don't treat them with respect, you will soon find out that they have a very short fuse, and you will also realize why Puerto Rico produces a lot of great boxers! Get to know the locals, we are a friendly bunch and will go out of our way to welcome you!
Thank you
what are some breath taking beach or river experiences that u recommend as a local? i’m a DR native and my favorite memories have been in places my family takes me to away from the usual tourist activities whenever i have visited!
Love ❤️ it so true 👍
Miguel Cotto, Tito Trinidad, Amanda Serrano, Wilfredo Benitez
uffff, are you done??🤣🤣🤣👍
Something else I would add is to watch out for inflated prices online!! My family and I were in La Parguera and happened to meet some tourists waiting in line for a night boat ride of the bioluminescent bay. They said their tickets were $40 each (they bought online) when in reality the tickets could be bought at the counter for $5 or $8 per person 🤧
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@justinwaters9177 there should be a counter off the pier by some gift shops. It's in La Parguera in Lajas, PR 😊
Omg! Ty this is the best tip ever. I almost bought tickets😢
@@againstallodds404 did you buy them in person? I'm scared they'll be sold out.
@@lenaiyahtyranea2305 wellla, We reserved it online then the tour called to say it's canceled not enough ppl signed up. Then they offered the kayak. I delayed but when I went to their website it was all booked up that was over spring break. So I called the tour directly and she was able to fit us in but I kayaker with another single rider since they weren't anymore kayaks left.
Puerto Rico is the best. We usually stay in Aguadilla on the main island. Great deals on weekly beachfront rentals. Also Vieques is fantastic. The people there are so great.
Aguadilla is my hometown ❤️ I’m blessed 😊
Thank you Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 💓 I love ❤ you all. I was blessed to set foot on your island, and communicate with your people. The best! I love you
Helpful points about prepaying for car rentals and using their websites! Also trying the local food! It's a shame to visit PR and not trying the local cuisine and beverages, especially Puerto Rican coffee and rum. 😊

Great tips....I've been to PR over 25 times and always rent a car. A lot of the best things to do and places to see, you MUST have a car. Aguadilla, Cabo Rojo, Arecibo, Ponce are some of my fav areas to visit. I've driven the entire island and it's very beautiful. The tip about prepaying for the car is very important. Once we paid a deposit, got to PR and they gave our car away because someone else paid in prepaid in full.
Where do you pay for the car?
@@leeorlandoj online when u reserve it, just pay it in full
Thank you for your tip. I am going for three days February 18-21. Do you recommend any particular places at Aguadilla
@@dani23dani85 Man out west you HAVE to go to the Camuy Caves, just amazing
How bad are the mosquitoes in August?
I visited there in may and let me tell you the people there are so nice. The culture is amazing and me being part of the lgbtq community I felt no discrimination what so ever and I met so many people. My best friend and my fiancé are both Boriqua and to just get a taste of the culture I couldn’t get enough. Can’t wait to go back in June of 2022!

As a puertoriccan it’s nice to finally see a good guide about us. I can agree to this.
@@albertoortiz7205 May you please elaborate?
@@albertoortiz7205 I think the guy is annoying also. He's probably an LGBTQ fruitcake. He's just like trying to control my trip. It's like, bro, shut up and let me enjoy a beach.
Some may be confused when they say "if you stay in the city". It's important to know that Old San Juan and San Juan are very different areas in the metro area, the Metro area has several other municipalities with their own cities. Really good advice though.
Is Condado okay ?
@lilly j
Yes! 100%, but be extra cautious about the currents in the ocean when entering the waters of Condado Beach - children MUST be accompanied. Many have died - look it up. Condado is a pretty area.
It's also worthy to note that San Juan is not the ONLY city. Saying it that way gives the impression that the rest of the island is one big jungle, which is far from the truth.
First time hearing about restaurants opening late. Never in my 43 years living here had encounter that problem. About the waiting time if the establishment is super crowded maybe 35 to 45 minutes till you get your food, but needs to be full to the brims. I dislike San Juan for the most part, exception historical places, best places are further away from the capital, friendlier people, less expensive and sometimes less crowded. The island is beautiful and you will enjoy it here.
Awesome video with you guys as always! And these are such key points that you made that normally people don’t even think about. I love it. I miss Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 everyday I’m not there. We did 14 days there in July of this year and we didn’t want to leave. Your absolutely right it’s good to leave and enjoy Puerto Rico outside of San Juan. We visited caguas, rincon, and Culebra.. so beautiful, great people and amazing food!
Try to go to Rincon West side leave Americans people for years and they got guest houses. They call that town Americans town.
My sister and I mostly stayed in my aunt's house in Hormigueros on vacation. San Juan is totally like another NYC because it's totally Americanized. If you're staying in the downtown San Juan area the food and drink is mostly expensive. My advice is to go to the local towns or pueblos for cheap eats.
DANIEL, THE ENTIRE ISLAND IS A GRINGO PLAY GROUND , THE ARE THE RULERS OF P.R BLAME THE CORRUPTED GOVERMENT FOR ACT # 22.
I’m going to PR in August, what towns or pueblos would you recommend?
FINALLY! Someone who actually recognizes us as an unincorporated US territory.
Still part of the states
@@billyjames9315 yeah by force. Nobody wants to be apart of this POS USA territory. We’re Puerto Ricans, not white Americans.
@@user-ub8uc8gq7r just white Americans live in the US? Also, everyone always have lip until taxes go out the door to support their country 😒
Ikr?
Undecided puertoricans need to make up their minds. Statehood or independence. No more commonwealth. Then Congress must act and do the right thing. Decolonize the island.
I cant wait!!!! Im black but grew up with Puerto Ricans and feel like its part of my childhood❤❤❤I cant wait🎉🎉🎉

I was stationed in Puerto Rico after hurricane Maria for about 5 months.
We homebased in San Juan at the entrance to the strip right after that long bridge.
Duty roster had us working all over the island.
Traveled all over on leave days.
I fell in love with Puerto Rico, the people, and the laid back lifestyle.

I watched this video before I visited PR, and I don't think I really understood until I was there. I came back to rewatch this video and it is definitely true 😆.
I am so glad we traveled San Juan, Aguadilla, Vieques, and Culebra. I cannot wait until I get to go back again!
next time go to Cabo Rojo and Gilligan's Island in Guanica
@@amercali I definitely plan on visiting other areas! It was hard to fit so much in our time there! Any recommendations of things in Cabo Rojo or Gilligan's island?
@@KenzLaw Cabo Rojo as many beaches that are great..Combate, Boqueron, Playa Sucia, Buye, etc and Gilligan has great snorkeling cause it has pool like green clear water. you have to go early to Gilligan cause you have to take a ferry to the island. and after a certain amount of people (capacity) they don't let anymore people on the island
Coquis are miniature frogs which make a delightful unique sound.
Dude Bro!
This video was right on and accurate information as I’m a proud Puertorrican and everything both of you said was true right to the fact about the guys who ask for money to watch the car while you enjoy a tourist area.
Well done bro 👏🏽🤙🏽
Ok. But don't wear war plugs. Puerto Rico noises are an absolute blessing. Especially the coqui at night and the music coming from everywhere. Enjoy. Stop acting like it's annoying. Why come if you are not gonna enjoy the every day stuff. ? I hope that didn't sound weird, but I miss the coqui so much. And I am proud of our constant lovable talking. Lol.
@picisa
I’m not sure if it still exists but there used to be an App with a sleep timer that would lull you to sleep with the sounds of the Coqui frog. 🐸 💤
It's just that for some foreigners, the sounds cam make it difficult to sleep.
Born and raise in Puerto Rico, the biggest tip I could give you.
Go to the west side, best beaches and places to eat.
San Juan is good, yeah it’s the capital blah blah blah. But the west side (aguadilla, Isabela, rincon, aguada) that’s where you want to go.
What an amazing video! This is the first video I have seen in your channel and I am truly impressed with your professionalism and also with the tour guide. It was very interesting! I was born and raised there until the age of 16 and then I came to the mainland in 1990 and I can say that everything you said is true
I don't have a passport yet, so visiting PR by myself for 3 days hopefully will be relaxing and a unforgettable experience.
Great video!
The reason we don't have card readers on the gas pumps is because the owner of the gas station want people to enter the small convenient store inside. They make more money from the sales inside the store than selling gas and diesel only.
Makes sense
Mainly because profit margins in selling gas is state-controlled all over the island. Selling goods makes the biz profitable.
Definitely visit the WEST side. Mayagüez, Cabo Rojo, Lajas, Rincón, Aguadilla, Isabela, etc... You"ll thank me later. 😎🌴✌🏻
West coast is the best part area of PR, also has the best beaches.
and Camuy
Super helpful! I love that you brought a local in to give more credit to the value you are bringing to me and your audience! BRAVO! THANK YOU!
It was a good list but honestly, number 5 was a bit unnecessary, when I go to other places I don't expect to people be "quiet" or anything cause it's not my place I'm just visiting seems kinda stupid, the sounds here are pretty basic other states I have visited where worst in sound
Plus, the real locals don't use plugs...
There used to be a Puerta Rican resteurant in Cleveland Ohio that i loved. I probably ate there a hundered times. The first time I ate there I was like whats taking so long. I learned to adapt, it was well worth the time. Come back Lozada's i miss you so much...!
1. Know Spanish - Yep. This is very good advice. Having some basic understanding of spanish will greatly help you in Puerto Rico
#7 Driving Mistakes: Also the big huge holes in the roads, I would make fun of it tho, because as a Mexican I am used to that, That actually reminded me of my Country😃
Thanks for promoting my island! My wife and i had to move because we lost to many jobs there. Man i really miss Puerto Rico! Especially the west side
you mean there are no jobs in puerto rico now?
@@gemalacahayapurnamashanty1443 there are jobs but most are food related and other are Part time retail jobs that don’t pay well. My wife and i had to move due to many jobs being contractor or part time jobs for me i lost to many jobs so we left .
Thats one of the reasons I havent moved to PR. I want to be in my island but oppertunities are important for my age and is conviance. I live in Miami which is the closest I can get to PR weather while in the states and still have tbe oppertunities and conviances of a major city stateside. One day I hope to retire in PR.
What the best part I can go plz
Get ready for crazy driving fellas! And STAY AWAY FROM LA PERLA!
puerto rico may be small on the map and you may think that it's small because it's like 110 long and 50 miles wide but what you don't see is that puerto rico has a lot of mountains
I mean big mountains some of the mountains are so high that they have clouds.
Soy de hatillo, Guajataca was the bee's knees in the 80s and 90s and there were monkey's in the trees.
Beautiful Juan !! I will know Puerto Rico because if you my family where there a few years ago and came happy!!!!
Jon you taught me about the do's and don't for when I visit Puerto Rico.
Absolutely gorgeous place to visit! I was in love! Unless it is windy it is humid!
Interesting information and helpful to take in if compelled to visit Puerto Rico. Any travel abroad will have challenges and a degree of awareness. The want to experience the scenic unfolding of landscapes and communities of the local cultures and culinary would out weigh the trepidation’s. Not for the faint of heart😉😀
“Vamos a calmarnos”… there are some places worst to drive in mainland USA than PR, for example Atlanta 🤣. And Santurce is in San Juan
Yeah, when they were talking about rough traffic I thought, ok like driving in Houston lol
Great video and your cinematography is amazing!
Only Aguadilla i lived there for a year and a half my heart stayed there
As soneone who was born and raised in Puerto Rico I can vouch for all this. PR is extremely expensive, specially in. The tourist area. A beer can cost $1.25 at a local bar but in a tourist area can be up to $5 for the exact same beer; same thing with food and even hotels. Try to book your hotel outside of the tourist area (San Juan, Isla Verde, Condado). Also PR ised US currency, no need to change your dollar. The most important update right now is tge use of facemasks EVERYWHERE. There is a new law that obligates everyone to use a facemask everywhere and bring your covid vaccine proof; if not, you won't be leaving your hotel. You can get a fine for walking around without a mask so wear your mask of the police is going to stop you, give you a fine and you could even end up in prision for this.
PR is pretty cheap in my opinion , just don't live in the metro area.
@@LaPlaga88 mortgage and rent are cheap. Utilities are 3x more expensive, groceries are more expensive (1 carton of eggs is almost $4, 1 gallon of milk is almost $7, etc)
no wayy... even walking outside?! it doesn't even make any sense :( going there in 2 weeks
@@JK-nd4iy how was it because I leave in 2 months and hope I don't need a vaccine or neg covid test to enter places
Thank you for this! I’m planning a trip to PR for the first time around august, would you say it’s safe for a solo trip?
On the renta car part, " in case they over book " is an understatement, lol. They always over book and is hell to get a car.
As a local I would recommend if you are in the San Juan Metro area I would try to stay only in the Tourist area because the crime rate is really bad there, especially at night. If you go to the the North west side like Quebradillas, Isabela, Aguadilla, Cabo Rojo, Lajas area this is a really safe there. Much cheaper, less traffic, great beaches and food to eat plus you have the Ramey Airport in Aguadilla nearby.
Not sure why you are saying this, I lived in Florida for 12 years and didn’t feel safer there than here in PR. Try to ask for help if you run a flat tire in the USA. Here someone will stop to help you.
I find your comment exaggerating. More than 95% of the crimes here are within their own gangs( same as Philadelphia, LA, Chicago, NY, Detroit, Washington DC and the list goes on…)
@@ericpizarro3084 It looks like you do not see the local PR news, 95% of all the car jackings, drive buy shootings and robberies are within the San Juan area. I live in Northwest Isabela area for more the 40 years and I can you this is really safe area. In San Juan everyone lives with gates in thier homes.
@@midiaz1319 entonces múdate de PR. Yo viví en Fl los últimos 12 años en la Fl. Regresé en Enero y no veo ninguna diferencia. Eres una(o) paranoica exagera(o). Que no aportas al futuro de este bendito lugar.

"we're lazy, we steal, we extort, we're violent and also welcoming and we cant drive unselfishly".....sounds dope.
Me, a local, watching what not to do as a tourist in my own island.

I loved the place and I did not have any issues. I want to go back and see the west side of the Island.
Hi I live in Puerto Rico , Otis beautiful, as a hint don’t miss the balneario of Boqueron and its poblado , at cabo rojo is a paradise !!
In Quebec Canada, it's $1,75 a litre. P.R. gas is cheap ! Our Sales tax is 14.975%.
May Almighty bless you and your family
I’m going to PR in august with my sister and I’ve been thinking about renting a car bc I would love to explore outside of San Juan, I want to explore all around. Can anyone please tell me where I can rent a car that it’s really good and what I need in order to rent one? And if it’s expensive for 1 week? I was thinking of Ubering but I keep seeing that it’s also expensive🥲🥲
Im native to Puerto Rico im just watching this cause of homesickness tbh.
I would love to go to see the water glow bio illuminascent looks stunning
I went to PR on a cruise. I ended up going to the rum factory there. And yes just walking around the port (because I was by myself & dark). But I do want to go back b/c I feel a few hours wasn't long enough to explore a little. And like all the other islands (Jamaica, Bahamas, St Thomas, etc) they are definitely on "Island Time" - 😎🌞⛱
Yes the Bacardi factory is across the Bay from El Morro, it has a Billion Dollar view and the free samples are nice
Thank you for this it’s very helpful I can’t wait to go to San Juan
Right on the spot. I would add, take it easy when driving. Do not blow the horn for any reason. Just wait until your front driver moves or pass him quietly by the side if you can. Better safe than sorry. You will find many slow drivers on the left lane.
In regards the food time waiting; yes what you said is very true but, you forgot to tell that for almost 100% of the time the waiting is worsted. I can’t find any other place in the world with better cuisine than here.
great video, thank you!

Good video. Headed there the first week of Jan. Hope it’s not too busy. Looking forward to do Survivor beach hike. I want to compare this island to Oahu.
You shouldn't make those comparisons, just because they are islands. That is the only thing they have in common. You need to go there with the attitude of experiencing a culture, food, people, topography and ambiance like no other. Open your mind.
@@brendahavlicak5247 Exactly, we go to Hawaii a lot from Florida. Puerto Rico is much closer. We love the culture of the Hawaiian islands so now we want to see the culture and hospitality of PR. Check out the Hawaii videos and the upcoming Puerto Rico ones. Thanks for sharing and watching.
Fun fact: If you're driving down the road and you see the vehicle in front of you stopped, talking to the person in the car that is stopped in the opposite direction, Don't get out of your vehicle, Don't honk the horn, and don't get mad? Just sit there and wait until the conversation is over, because if you try to address the situation it might be the last vacation that you take. There's a lot of cowboys in P. R.
Also let the road rage go and don't flip the bird. That's an invitation to get shot.
Yes, I go to rincon and everything takes for ever it drives me nuts 😅 it’s just like DR they take their sweet time. I haven’t being to that part of aguadilla it looks beautiful

Many of the things the guide said are not completely true. People in PR are just like people anywhere. They work five days a week and enjoy their weekend, like anywhere else. They don’t party all the time. Restaurants usually open when they say they open. Maybe the guide was talking about a couple of very small joints. I’ve never heard of anyone offering to watch a car or the car will be broken in to. People are generally on time just like anywhere else.

Hi, I am visiting PR next weekend with my daughters. I know I want to take them to Culebra and El Junque, and walk around Old San Juan. Any other activities or towns you can recommend we visit? Also, we would love go to beaches with calm, clear water too. Thank you! 😊
@@InfinitelyBlessed Culebra is amazing as well as Culebrita which you can visit once in Culebra. Depending on how much time you have you could also try Vieques and it's bioluminescent bay which it's the most spectacular thing you could experience when there is little to no moonlight but take in to consideration you would need an over nigh stay in the island and beaches there are impressive also. Fajardo has el Faro de las Cabezas de San Juan which is a very nice place to visit and close by there are to spots that you could visit if you enjoy walking a bit since it's sort of a hike but Playa Colora and Playa Escondida are nice pots to see. Old San Juan is great and there is lots of things to see and I would suggest spending some time on the Morros hillside it's nice to see kids rolling down the hill and the kites flying above.
@@InfinitelyBlessed The Yunque just re open "El Portal" wich is it's Welcome center and a nice attraction. If have some extra days and like some adventure you could Zipline in Toro Verde Orocovis. Some other towns with nice Beaches are Manatí (Playa los Tubos, Mar Chiquita and La Poza de las Mujeres) and Vega Baja has playa Puerto Nuevo. Those are some places near the metro area. But the best beaches in PR are on the west towns of Aguadilla, Isabela, Rincón and Cabo Rojo.
@@saundz8791 Thank you so much for these tips! I might have to look into spending 1 night on the West side of the island.
@@InfinitelyBlessed No worries If you manage to Aguadilla has Crash Boat, Pena Blanca, Las Ruinas, Punta Borinquen, Survival Beach, Parque Colón and Rompeolas. Isabela is all about Jobos and the Nightlife/Restaurants and bars but Shacks is nice and you could hit Villa Pesquera and get some big mojitos right at the corner. Rincón is great with awesome food and great surf plus the Best Sunsets in the Island. Last but not least Cabo Rojo has Playa Sucia o La playuela, Las Salinas, The Lighthouse that oversees the area where the Atlantic ocean meets the Caribbean waters, Boquerón, Buye, El Poblado área for some food and drinks.
Great video! But, If you go out every night "it s going to be expensive really fast". So, how much?
This was really good
No mention of the monster potholes and unexplainable rolling power outages.
Yeah, and when people start talking about the effects of that Maria storm just pretend to be deaf and blame the locals all the time because we gringos know better.
Hello, where is the restaurant located at 4:50? I really want to see this. Thank you
So, if you don't pay for protection of your vehicle, the locals will break your windows? Is extortion part of Puerto Rican culture?
Thank you.
I always park in a private parking lot because of those local beach bums. You pay them something and when you come back they are gone and your car is still broken into. So either park at a private lot or Tell them You will take care of them when you get back and they are usually there waiting when you get back. I carry cold water, snacks, etc. and I hook them up as well.
Most are drunks or drug users, but most are kool and down to earth. Im Puerto Rican also from NYC so I know how to deal with them since we have them here in NYC as well.

Visiting here soon.

Is a real issue here, people drive very slow. Example seed limit 65, drivers 40.
The GPS system is not reliable lol. Street names and routes are changed luckily I had my family over there. And if you guys drive in the Campos like these guys say it's cheaper. But they don't have atms or debit card machines. Especially in the central mountain town
