The musicians and Casino Croupiers used to go there when they got off work. And the stories of how sickly babies were nursed back to health with Guarapo de Caña - which occasionally we could buy from somebody with a Guarapo Press by the side of the road - there were still cane fields on the outskirts of Dorado in those days, back in the 1970's .... and the Asaltos Navideños, and the Asopao and the bottles of homemade Coquito .... wow did THAT pack a punch.... this video has REALLY been a trip down El Sendero del Recuerdo ...

I've been following you for quite awhile and the way you describe your culinary feasts are on point. Now, for my surprise, seeing you having a blast with the food on my motherland was a treat beyond my expectations!!! I've been trying for decades to describe the taste and intrinsic flavors of our cuisine but you my friend, glide around, under and within the task with fluent narrative and description. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and the praying for you to keep on having so much fun in that journey we call "life"...
So glad you enjoyed the food! Puerto Rican food is not spicy and although some people might put hot sauce on theirs it’s not how it’s traditionally done. Just to be clear there’s nothing wrong if you wanna put hot sauce on your food but just wanted to clarify that our food is not spicy because a lot of tourists think that it is. Personally my favorite chinchorro at Piñones is El Boricua and you gotta go to Guavate in Cayey next time where they have lechón asado(roasted pork on a spit) and truly classic local food in the mountain.

Visited campamento pinones today and I'm so glad we did. The food was amazing just like you said. The one thing I tried that wasn't on your video was beef that was surrounded by soft sweet plantains and then battered and deep fried. It looked like a large hockey puck and it was absolutely amazing. The large fish cake was my second favorite.

@@supercal3944 a lot of the cuisine is similar in some way but not exactly, it weird to explain the differences our foods.
@@rafaelsanchezortiz964 I ain't know that

Thank you for being so respectful toward our food and culture we take a lot of pride in our food it's such a big part of our culture and it's one of the things I miss the most about my beautiful island
My best experiences was learning how to cook with my Puerto Rican ex boyfriend family . My being Guyanese an Trinidadian I didn’t realize how we shared a lot of the same dishes and they can cook up when I say cook 👩🏾🍳 y’all can work your hand real nice in the kitchen ! ❤
6:49 Shots like these make me want to go and explore the world so I can try all these beautiful culinary masterpieces!
This makes me miss home. Thank you Mike ❤️ I haven’t been home since covid and I’m glad you enjoyed my island.
Wepaaaa Mike!!! Thanks for doing our isla justice! Made me miss my mami’s home cooking! You gotta check out the little Puerto Rico’s in places like NYC and Chicago next 🙌🏽
Im from Puerto Rico and trust me , i Love when i see this videos, i feel rlly proud of my island
my gorgeous little island, not only is the food amazing and fresh, but my people are the warmest and welcoming you will ever find anywhere, so glad you had a great time.
FELICIDADES 🎉🎉
:D
Watching this video made me realize how amazing our local food is.
As a tropical Island, the weather is great, the food is amazing and the people really so nice and friendly, I am so glad you enjoy your trip to Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 you are inspired to enjoy everything and sharing your wonderful experience with the world ❣️
THANK YOU! I’m heading to San Juan Sunday and I will have to go to each restaurant you’ve shown!!! Looks delicious and I can not wait!
Ugh thank you so much for doing this I loved every piece of it.. made me feel like I was at home for a sec😭❤️🇵🇷
Thank you for this awesome video! 🤗 I’m traveling to Puerto Rico from NY on Friday! The food looks so amazing, this video made me even more excited for my trip! Also, your parents are precious and your mom’s food looks soooo good!!
Almost to 4 mil subscribers 🤩 Best wishes to you and your wife 💕 BTW, your mom’s cooking is so good, looks like restaurant quality. Love how your mom interacts with Christine. 😊 I am in the same situation: I am Korean, and my husband’s parents are from HOng Kong and don’t speak English...So when we meet, it is the same situation.
Not sure if anyone corrected you on the alcapurria, but the batter is made out of green bananas Not plantains. ☺️ Glad you love our food ! ❤ 🇵🇷
In the center of the island and other places they use plantains mixed with other tubercles as well. They are better than green bananas ones.
Mikes mom must literally cook from sun up til
Sun down!!! She goes all
Out for every meal!!! His parents are just adorable!! Her meals look like 5 star Michelin
Totaly agree! i,d pay good money to get try her food!
This video made me miss home! I’m glad you enjoyed it, the best Island in the WORLD!❤️
Passion and love for home cooked food with our parents is always the best... Stay safe mikey and christine...
Thank you for showcasing some of our yummy food. ❤️ It looks like you had a good time. I felt every bite in my soul.
Man I'm Puerto Rican and I'm not crazy about alcapurrias, but you made those look GOOD. I'm craving some now 😅
Thank you so much for the video! Honestly I can say you did your research well and you got a pretty accurate representation of some of our staple Street food! I'm really glad you enjoyed the food and I hope you're able to return one day to try even more tasty things :)
:D
There is a roadside restaurant here in Wall township NJ called Maria’s Kitchen it is Puerto Rican comfort food it is delicious 🤤. I haven’t been there is a while but it’s so good

I'm really glad you enjoyed your stay in Puerto Rico. It also makes me really joyful that you enjoyed some of the food and cuisine we have to offer.
It warms my heart that highly admired people like you can show these videos to the world and bring to light our little Island. Also whomever recommended you the spots should get a shoutout because those a are some of the best that P.R. has to offer.
came here to see your street food adventure in Puerto Rico. Thanks for sharing. Also, I love that you included your home-cooked meal once you returned to NY. I would love to try your mother's combination rice! And I'm gonna try to make eggs and jalapenos. Saw the dumplings you had. Now I'm hungry!
Gracias por visitarnos! Espero que vuelvas a venir a Puerto Rico aun te queda por comer muchas cosas ricas..!
Le falto el mofongo!!!! Yo me quede como que…. COMO QUE NO PROBÓ EL MOFONGO???? 😱

What is the first one he ate like a pancake and fish? What’s the name I really want to try to make it! 😋
@@therenaultsfunton144 that one is called Bacalaitos IM not sure If I spelled it right but it should pop up when you look it up in any search engine :)
@@Memes-md9uy yes you spelled it correctly 👏👏👍👍
he said he went to Piñones. Pirilos and piñones are the same thing?
@@therenaultsfunton144 - as someone already stated, it's called BACALAITOS, and they're thin seasoned wheat flour and cod fritters. Only the professionals, like those you saw in Piñones (PR-187 from the SJU Airport to the Loíza downtown) make them correctly.
The homemade* version is easier to make than you think if you Google for versions of the recipe...
* if you find real codfish is too expensive you could substitute for salted pollock
Makes me so incredibly happy you stopped by Puerto Rico! ❤️✨
I’m so glad you visit my beautiful island of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 you can’t never go wrong with the experience there food, places and the atmosphere everything is amazing 🤩
