I know this video is two years old but I've just gotta comment. I love Beholders so much. My first encounter with them was in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for the original Xbox - the stuffed baby Beholder over the fireplace in the Elfsong Tavern perfectly foreshadowing the deliciously evil Lord Xantam (Played by the late-great Tony Jay) and the slow build up of cutscenes going from a disembodied voice off-screen, to off-screen but letting us see a shadow on the ground to finally the big reveal will always stay with me. I also recently ran a group of players through old AD&D 1e with a sort of semi-Spelljammer flair to it and placed a Beholder NPC named "Blind Bill" in the starting pirate town. It totally wasn't to make sure they didn't try to attack the townspeople I swear. Also I mean, c'mon. Blind Bill, that's awesome. He also happened to be a vendor for magical items, so I played it up like an antique shop.
My favorite part of the Orbius adventure module was when Orbius said “it’s Orbin time” and orbed all over the place. Truly one of the modules of all time
Wyloch, I sincerely hope you're enjoying the return and doing these videos. I love the format of these new videos, both learning how to craft a monster and more about it at the same time. You bring a lot to the table, and please try not to forget how much people appreciate what you do!
Yeah I think you've tapped into something I think appeals to folks who have been crafting and watching UA-cam tabletop crafting videos. We don't need the play by play on what the host is doing and the lore is great to unwind and chill out with. I've found crafting videos, in particular the older ones, are great for taking your mind off things. They made you think about the session you would run with the craft! Sometimes if I start to focus on craft instead of what's happening next in the game it starts to resemble work instead of hobby. All the hosts of the channels we all love seem to inevitably experience that on a massive scale ha :) These last two really tap into that excitement to play we sometimes lose! Awesome man
You should seriously be a narrator for a book. You have a great story-telling voice. I really enjoyed this video, and love listening to the lore while you craft. It's great!
Being trapped in the middle of a 5-way Beholder Battle would be pretty darn scary. That'd be a great "non-combat" encounter for an adventuring party. Trying to sneak past as the Beholders circle and attack each other. :O

I watched your last video about beholders. I made mine with a foil and wire armature and the surface was clay. The guy came out a wee but smaller than a normal beholder but the chipped tooth in his mouth (intentionally made that way) made him look more like a chad. So, I chalked him up to be a young beholder and a cocky one at that.
Great video. Beholder is the first creature that I considered crafting. Haven’t gotten around to it yet but this is definitely giving me some motivation. I also like the way you set up the video by telling lore while you were crafting.

This is a fun format, it's fun watching you make something and explain the lore behind it. Those look like professional models, can't believe it's just a ping-pong ball and some hot glued items!
The addition of the central eye (gems, beads, I guess?) REALLY make a difference, as well as the color choices (especially some of the neutral grays which just make the colors pop more). A fine upgrade indeed.

My first memories of a Beholder are the one that functioned as a guard in the first live action movie, and Xantam from the first Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance game (Along with the one over the mantle at the Elfsong Tavern there)
These look great! Might be worth looking onto colour glue sticks for work in camera when your using the glue itself as a sculpting medium. It's easy to understand what you were doing with the glue gun but it could be a little hard to follow at times simply because the glue was clear 😄 great tutorial though! Still loving the blend of lore and building.

In some early lore they mate and lay eggs but in the current edition they are dreamt into existence by other beholders - the physical manifestation of paranoid fantasies.
