Just a suggestion,,,, but you could coat your string in glue first and then coil the twine and have less problem with unwinding while you are trying to glue afterwards :) hope this was helpful to anyone. Have to say that comb and brush stuff was genius! as you see many of us agree lol
Thanks :) Luke is just another UA-camr and generally nice guy who also has products to help fund his channel he runs for the community, and I generally only use his products when they're the best for the job... But they quite often are :) Support a small business! 😁
God, the idea to use comb teeth and hair brush spines for swords is simply genius! I will definitely be using this idea for my future crafting projects!
Would be cool to make two versions of each. One clean and set up properly. And one set broken down, fallen and shattered as if during a raid or barrage. Nice work as always
For some reason, I always seem to get more excited by the smaller scatter terrain, rather than what would typically be the more impressive larger pieces. Perhaps it is due to the fact that the devil is, so often, in the details. Brilliant work my friend!
Now that BMC has gone all-in on Warhammer 40K you're by far my favorite DnD crafting channel. Thanks for all the inspiration! Really looking forward to where the channel goes
Great use of everyday items. I need more scatter terrain and have been struggling to come up ideas. This may be the answer!! Keep up the great work man. Cheers 🍻

Yeah I'm pretty happy with how that turned out. The alternative is using then styrene sheets cut to the right shape, but getting that cut right can be...challenging :)
Dunno if anyone's else recommended this yet elsewhere in the comments, but just thought I'd mention that you might have more success with your mud paste in the future by swapping out the all-purpose filler for the same amount of flexible modelling paste. I don't think I've ever seen that stuff crack in any way, even when applied in thick chunky layers. ADORE all your projects, friend, you're insanely talented.
Great build, great jam music! Thank you for sharing your experiments that don't quite meet your standard. It demonstrates that even content creators have mishaps too and struggle at times, plus creative perseverance is always inspirational! Great job!
Thanks Mike! Yeah I do try to do that where I can, but there's even more don't make the cut so I can keep the video length down 😂 creators fail a lot more than you think!
Well done Matt on the great scatter terrain and video production, I've seen similar things on reddit but they all look mediocre at best. I also LOVE the targets, easy to build and look amazing.
Love everything!!! These pieces looks perfect and they're super useful in my games!!! Only note for the mud I would have used paint, glue and baking soda, I found it makes a great mud/ground effect really cheap and easy
I'll have to give it a try :) honestly though, lukes basing cover is golden for so many things, I can highly recommend his channel (lukes aps) if you haven't seen it already!
@@RPArchiveOfficial I'll go check it out! And I'm sure its stuff is higher quality, but baking soda is the cheapest you can get and all I can afford 😂😂
@RP Archive Let me first say that this Channel is by far the best UA-cam find so far in 2021 for me. The pandemic have gotten me back into the hobby and it is a treasure chest to find Great things like this. That simply did not exist back in the late '00 - early, '10s. Do you have a video on those tents shown at the end of this video?
Thank you! It's always great to hear stuff like that :) The tents were just a quick throw in from a terrain crate, nothing special or crafted. I might do a tents video at some point, but for now real terrain hobbies has a great one you should check out :)
Fantastic themed crafting video...although I did cringe at 2:49 when you trimmed the balsa base of your weapon rack uprights because I thought you were going to take off the tip of your finger!
Scatter terrain is a phrase used to describe smaller pieces of terrain that you 'scatter' in an area to add more detail and life to it :) pretty much half of all terrain could be described as scatter terrain really haha
I made my own basing material using acrylic texture paste intended to be used on a canvas for artsy streaks and bumps in... I don't know... Modern art? Anyway, this stuff comes in tubes but also in buckets. I've found it in arts and crafts stores and even many hardware stores or places that have hobby level art supplies sell stuff like that... Mixed with some equally cheap acrylic paint and white glue it stays fresh and wet in small badges. I mixed one of the old wash buckets from GW woth of the stuff and it hasn't hardened yet. And yea.. Part of the reason I had an empty wash is that I spilled a good amount.
I am not sure why the cracks were a problem. The ground cracks, especially when wet mud or earth dries. I would just embrace it and make it part of the model!
only one thing i would add to the archery targets ............get a fine needle and some buff thread and sew closed the end of the string just like they are made in real life.
I'm very limited on supplies, but I should be able to get by for my Dark Souls Board Game, I just need cardboard and glue, but I should be able to manage making these with what I currently have at hand 🤔
Yes that is fast though if you want to get a little extra texture in you could probably get away with doing a grey dry brush on the piece before washing it.
For the wash on wood technique how did you avoid having the glue mess with the wash? I tried it in the past and the wash wouldn't stick to any exposed spots that got glue on them. Also the builds looked really great by the way
Thank you, and welcome to the channel :) Not to put too fine a point on it, but it works fine as long as you're careful and use the right amount of glue - ie. Not too much :) if you do mess up in places, I find a second coat can help blend and disguise it though
The targets look brand new and unused. It should have the fibers messed up from the original rope from having arrows poked in and pulled out. I think they end up getting used far beyond their "pretty" life. Much of the fibers will be matted into a coarse felt and the original spiral will kind of melt together. It may even have repairs.
Yep, just one of the types we get in the UK. It's main advantage is the colour, so if it gets damaged it isn't so obvious, but it has drawbacks, it's extremely fibrous and grained, so it doesn't take the pencil method of wood grain, or any indented carving very well. Otherwise I'm pretty sure it's the same as US foam, same springyness etc. It's certainly not like the styrodur from Europe BMC uses more these days, that stuff is awesome. Need to pick some up to experiment with actually...

4 years later, just found this gem of a channel! Thank you!
comb and brush use is something I have not seen before. Amazing idea!!

Very true, and I can totally see where you're coming from :)
Small scatter is more useful in my experience. 6 to 8 small pieces and you have an area detailed
The use of comb teeth and brush hairs, genius. Nice one.

Remember to put cross guards on spear tips - you don't want to have your spear get stuck in your opponent, because you jammed it in too deep. ;)
Perfect for my chaos camp
Great ideas.
When adding texture to your spear shafts you could simply roll them across a sharp checkered flat file

I think that using just a wash on real wood looks actually better than the traditional : basecoat, wash and drybrush... I'ts a lot faster too🙄😂
