- Here's a rare recording from Jaco's tour of Italy in 1982, November 22nd in Naples to be specific. While Jaco sounds slightly erratic and overly aggressive in his playing at times there is a level of inventiveness, excitement and inspiration to it that was in my opinion missing the last couple of years or so in his live shows with Weather Report with Jaco often on"autopilot" playing a lot of the same stuff night after night. This short Italian tour has gotten a lot of bad press, but with the exception of one show( the infamous gig in Milano Jaco sabotaged and that forced the band to flee the arena through the back door to escape the raging and disappointed crowd) I find the depictions of Jaco's playing on this tour to be vastly exaggerated. Jaco's life had been starting to unravel at this time and he was going through a lot of inner turmoil during this tour that manifested itself into some very bizarre behaviour off stage, but in my opinion he mostly managed to put all the anger and mood swings he was experiencing into some very intruiging and memorable performances on stage. This is an audience recording with less than stellar sound quality but the energy level during this particular concert reaches some almost scary heights at times,
especially during "Invitation" and Jaco's bass/drums duet with Kenwood Dennard. Full band lineup: Jaco Pastorius - bass, Alex Foster - saxophone, Kenwood Dennard - drums, Delmar Brown - keyboards/vocals,
Elmer Brown - trumpet, Carol Steele - percussion
Set List:
00:00 Invitation

Great show, thanks! It's not often you come across recordings from this tour
You're welcome. I have four recordings from this tour and all are good/great except the one from Milano that Jaco sabotaged.
@@musicuniverse1986 I was there, in Naples, and met Pastorius after lunch at the hotel. He was altered by alcool :D but later that night he made that marvellous performance
I went to Jaco concerts and met the guy and I played bass for a long time…Jaco wasn’t human when he got on that bass!!!!
Wow, you're very fortunate to have experienced that! I wasn't even born at the time :) Jaco was a bass monster for sure. Thanks for commenting.
@@musicuniverse1986 He wasn’t the only one at that time it’s just his style was so unique then everyone else he pushed the bass to a lead instrument more than anybody else at that time….now there’s clones of him everywhere.
Thanks dear. This is a valuable document. Hats off from Florence
Glad you enjoyed it. Greetings from Norway.

My goodness, his solo on Invitation. Jaco goes otherworldly.
Jaco was in top form for sure. Thanks for commenting.
That's almost free concert of Jaco WOM i've never heard (he's probably high but he have a very big pulse ; a great moment) ; thank for give this gift
who cares if he drank tea, wear red socks or took gorilla tranquilizers man? it's music, not a gossip magazine. Go check who's Taylor Swift's new boyfriend or what kind of lipstick Oprah uses

@@Baduil If someone judge it's you !
@@Baduil the short hair = slave of nom
Whenever I hear Jaco said good evening I am waiting for "I would like to say hello to my mother" lol ✌️😎
Thanks for the comment. Greetings from Norway :)
I was THERE!! He stayed at SanGermano Hotel in Naples, near Nato Base
Thanks for sharing. It must have been a phenomenal experience to have been in attendance during this show! :)
@@musicuniverse1986 also before the show. We were there from a local radio station to interview him, but it was impossible, It was just after lunch and he had enjoyed a great italian wine 😉🤭
He was made 2 dedicaces ( Ch Parker : Koko "the last vert long version & of course J . Hendrix )
Post his photos when he had long hair, not those where he appears as a clown
How about commenting on the MUSIC and not in comparison trivial details like what background photo I chose for the clip?? Btw this is what he looked like when this concert took place, hence the photo selection ;)
@@musicuniverse1986 thanks for posting these concerts! I was the Toad’s Place show a few months ago prior to this - when a fan yelled “Jaco don’t die” a chill ran down my spine!
…mainly because I’d seen that Guitar World photoshoot with the short hair and him making weird faces.
@@jimmyimy2009 You're welcome Jimmy. And thanks for sharing your personal recollections of being at the Toad's Place gig! It must have been an amazing event to be in the presence of the master. I wasn't even born at the time :) Greetings from Norway and happy holidays.
