Jaco Pastorius & Peter Graves Orch. - Live on Sanibel Island Oct 2nd 1982( Full Show)

- Jaco was a regular member of the Peter Graves orchestra from 1973-75 but would continue to play with the orchestra through the years when on breaks from Weather Report or his various solo bands. In this case he had just gotten home from a famously tumultuous early September tour of Japan with his WOM big band. By this time the orchestra had changed its name to the "Atlantean Driftwood Band". This particular concert took place on Sanibel Island in Florida on October the 2nd in 1982. During the concert Jaco says to the audience that they were "cutting a live record" which I assume means that it was intended for release. I wonder why it never came to fruition, because it's a great sounding show. Musicians: Jaco Pastorius - bass, Peter Graves - bass trombone, Othello Molineaux steel drums, Melton Mustafa - trumpet, Randy Emerick - baritone saxophone, Ken Faulk - trumpet Brett Murphey - trumpet Russ Freeland - trombone, Neal Bonsanti - tenor/alto saxophone, Dan Bonsanti - tenor saxophone/clarinet Gary Lindsay - tenor saxophone, Mike Levine - keyboards, Randall Dollahon - guitar, Oscar Salas - percussion, George Mazzeo - drums

Thank you for posting! These guys are a reminder that really fine Musicians can be found all over this country and this world. These are not the biggest names, not Michael Brecker, Peter Erskine, Mike Stern or Bob Mintzer etc. but man they all play great.
Seconded. I was having a pretty miserable day. Now I'm smiling.
Great to hear that this recording helped to make your day better. Greetings from Norway
God his timing is incredible. The quick staccato and the ghost notes, you could cut the time into 4 and he’s still spot on. The precision.
Thank you so much for the upload! Jaco and the Atlantean Driftwood Band were a great combination, and it's a real shame there are so few recordings of them.
You're welcome. In addition to this concert and the Gusman Hall recording that you posted a while back on your channeI I know for a fact that that Peter Graves has many other recordings of Jaco with the band, ranging from when Jaco was a regular member before Weather Report to his last gigs with the orchestra in the mid 80's. I hope he releases them some day. Greetings from Norway, and thanks for commenting.
Hen's teeth from the greatest ... thank you so much for keeping the spirit of real music alive ... xxx
as much as I love hearing Toots or other horns playing the head to 'Three Views' , pretty great hearing it on a clarinet.

I think in the way that great stuff gets ‘passed on’, we can safely say ‘Chicken’ is Jaco Pastorius’ now. I love to hear that college jazz bands do this the Jaco way nowadays. Pee Wee won’t mind.
If you want to get the good dancers dancing at a party, play something with Jaco front of mix. Dancers know a dancer.
excellent live performance ! Thank you ! Did you have the names of musicians ?
You're welcome. I have now updated the info section with the full list of musicians. Thanks for commenting.
Amazing! Definitely playing the bass of doom before it got stolen

Shit they’re twisting and syncopating all over the place here. Good band.
some of the other instruments are not clearly audible nor sound totally on point. can't tell if this is a mix thing (I'm guesssing this is a soundboard rough mix) which might explain why it never saw an official release
Yeah sounds like a single mic in the room.
This is a stage recording
