Invisible Wounds (Dark Bodies) - Fear Factory guitar cover

- Upload date: March 30th, 2022. My rendition of Fear Factory's "Invisible Wounds (Dark Bodies)", 6th track on the 'Digimortal' album. I've been wanting to cover something from this band for a long time (especially since I listened to them almost as much as Metallica back in my high school years), and finally here it is, roughly 15 years (since I started my channel) loooooong overdue. But yeah, this has always been one of my favorites of theirs, and there are definitely a few more Fear Factory tunes/favorites I have in mind to do after this one (especially ever since I broke out the ol' de-tuned 7-string from its long slumber in autumn '21).
Not a whole lot to say aside from I made a few minor tweaks, namely the lil' tremolo-picked bits here and there, I had to alter them to something more simple for convenience sake...especially considering I don't have a noise gate, and trying to tremolo-pick with that level of distortion without one even when properly palm-muted tends to be a recipe for disaster, and in my case - it absolutely was, big time...especially for the breakdown/"DARK!" section in particular, I had to improvise/simplify/'chunk' that part to remedy that situation...but I guess it kiiiind of works? It gives those notes a bit more emphasis/'ooomph' in a way (and it also let me get back to the clean riff a lot more smoothly, which was certainly an advantage). The FF purists probably won't like that, but hey, hopefully my faux-backwards-guitar-effect riff at the end makes up for it. XP Anyway, enjoy as always!
For those attempting to learn from this, tuning is 2 whole steps down from standard (from what I've ascertained by watching Dino's performances in live versions): G-C-F-Bb-Eb-G-C. Best of luck trying to keep it in tune, because the strings are real touchy being tuned that low and loose (you'll most likely have to raise the bridge/action too as I did to prevent fret buzz)...even after tuning and re-tuning time and again, letting the strings adjust for a few days, and having just freshly tuned it right before recording this - it STILL sounded kind of iffy here and there as I played. So yeah, fair warning to the uninitiated that have never tuned that low - it's not very stable, you'll most likely not be pitch-perfect for very long, and it's honestly kind of a chore hahaha...as happy as I am to do this particular Fear Factory song, I personally am probably not going to tune this low again and will stick with their A-tuned-or-higher stuff for any future guitar videos, since it's way more stable/consistent/reliable.
I saw one guy play it and be told me it's played tuned to drop G (G-D-G-C-F-A-d). I suppose it's because he didn't want to break the neck of his guitar that much.
@@saymonek0 It would certainly be a valid way to tune and arrange it on...each tuning/method has its advantages and disadvantages. The one I'm doing has some easier stretches and you can utilize some of the open strings too...the downside of course is it's a super wonky and unnatural tuning to work with. (If I ever dabble with a tuning that low again, I might just try using a pitch-shifter pedal instead.)

I do indeed occasionally. Oooo, that's a great one! As a matter of fact, that song has actually been on my possibility list for quite a while, but the one tiny thing that has always made me hesitant about doing it is that little sweeping lick at the end of the solo...I freely admit I am absolutely terrible with sweep-picking (it's my #1 weakness in guitar-playing without a doubt), so if I were to do that song (especially any time soon), I'd probably have to change/arrange that bit of the solo a little differently for my clumsy self. XP
