For international listeners; Sivert Høyem is a Norwegian blues vocalist, he's known for his deep voice and has such acclaimed songs as Prisoner of the Road and Endless Love.

I wouldn't quite call it blues, but I'm unfamiliarized with his solo albums. Blue's inspired, ok.
His work with Madrugada is fantastic and Industrial Silence is, in my opinion, a nothing-short-of-amazing, dark and melancholic indie album. In the vein of Nick Cave, Cohen, etc. with a hint of (good) Pearl Jam "poppiness" to it.

    Into the night
    My long suffering friend
    We'll be reborn again
    Right here where everything ends
    Face to the sky
A trail of smoke in the air
    Pass into emptiness
    New life's awaiting you there
    Slave to some wretched old
    Imagination of yesteryear
Now all that grows in the skulls
Of the living are flowers of fear
    The morning red
    A sun-god calling you back
    Down through a thousand years
    White embers whistle and crack
Await the dawn with her kiss of redemption,
    My firebird!
You were the queen of the souls of all men
    Before there was the w-o-r-d
The morning new, the morning red,
    The fiery promise
Mad swirling smoke wheels round her head
Dedication to the queen of souls, her lost disciples
And when the fire's work is done
    Our time to be reborn
    By pagan streams
A wind whips the leaves from the trees
And it is revealed to us
That we are dreams within dreams
    Born from some wretched
    Old imagination of yesteryear
Now all that grows in the skulls of the living
    Are flowers of fear
The morning new, the morning red,
    The fiery promise
Mad swirling smoke wheels round her head
Dedication to the queen of souls, her lost disciples
And when the fire's work is done
    Our time to be reborn
The morning new, the morning red,
    The fiery promise
Mad swirling smoke wheels round her head
Dedication to the queen of souls, her lost disciples
And when the fire's work is done
    The phoenix now reborn

I remembered my first time hearing this. It was absolutely unpredictable. Not your typical clean vocals and screaming. Just that its Sivert's singing alone made it a masterpiece And the lyrics are amazing. Every time I play this song I have to put it on repeat for a while before I can move on to another song. The guitars, the drums, the choir in the background, everything is perfect about it... well, to me at least :)

I'll never understand why they get so much shit for experimenting with the genre and composing what they feel. For 1 - how do you think different genres come about? Experimentation. 2. People fucking change. Music is an expressive outlet of the soul. Besides, I just love how people think bands need to fit in a box of what they feel they should be put in. You don't like it? Don't listen to it. I've listened to Satyricon for well over 10 years. I'd be sick and tired of them if all we had was exact copies of Nemesis Divina and The Shadowthrone. Get over yourselves.

@@fargranhammerheart True. Metal to me is about freedom from any shackle. Elitism is shackles for your mind. People can dislike this song of course, but to say what is or isn't "allowed" to be metal or to be enjoyed just exposes one own's flaws and limits.

@@benedekgabor. when you have original an finely tuned groups (savatage, dark tranquility, anathema metallica for a popular example) they simply aren't the great sound they once created anymore an become clones; you know the clones that you didnt listen to cause you were too busy listening to the originals. satyricon doesnt get credit for BM; somehow only emperor does so them changing i do not see as a huge negative. this song however gets a pass because its just this one song. this is rather a latter day anathema clone. but like what you want. just dont tell me you listen to high energy music if you dont. thats my problem. people may eventually be like "can you stop playing drums/guitar/singing" when you find a female who sees this song as the most brutal satan worshippers ever. so it can go both ways as to whos the ass
