End of an era....keep the videos coming Jon!
Not half !!
That backyard mini ramp is my dream right there
love your energy Jon
Oh man, I'll miss your mini !
The answer to all our old man ramp needs might be a progressive height mini. You could make the base 3' like yours, make the coping removable and then build progressively higher add on sections, 4', 5' etc, like your removable extension, but full width, getting steeper, even up to vert, if your transition radius is big enough, which yours seems to be. Sweet build. Very smart.
Yeah dude, the extension was ace fun, it really provided that extra bit of zip !
@@JonBishopSkate Thanks for the reply. Let us know your design height and all that for the mod 2. Blessings of skate success to you and yours.
My neighbors were hardcore skateboarders...so hardcore they had a flat bar in the drive way and mini ramp of their own in the back...and they told me to stop with the noise of my skateboard when I was practicing flat ground tricks in the backyard.
How very strange and what a shame ?
Emotional getting rid of the ramp. Not sure I could part with mine!!
Love the Mark knopfler shredding 🔥
Cheers dude, there is a new 6 footer at the end of my road that I made friends with today!! It’s a striking pink, you can see it on my Instagram if you fancy a peak 😂
I'll always be grateful to that ramp for giving us the smith slam
ps. That's a tidy Knopfler-esque jam. Rock on brother
Many thanks dude!
Massive progression, keep up the good work!
Awesome stuff!
can't wait to see your next ramp!
What a LOSS! Keep it up! This is a very honest and entertaining channel! Respect from Melbourne, Australia.
Thank you for a lot of ramp joy and inspiration on the pool ramp😃🇩🇰
Nice work, it did its job nicely, im looking forward to see what you come up with next.
Superb Jon. Subscribed. 👍🏻
this was great to watch, what a way to end it on a new trick. goodbye blue pool ramp😪
Dude, you're awesome. Thank you for all the amazing videos you've posted. They have really meant a lot to me.
Many thanks for tuning in dude!
Superb! Glad you got to sell her so someone else can enjoy. Looking forward to seeing mach 2!
im 45 and watching your videos inspire me to get a skateboard again. I stoepe 10 years ago. love your editing and your content. you got my subcription after this video. love mini ramps.... great tricks
Excited for the next chapter.
Hell Yeah!!
Very nice vid, thank you sir.
That last trick was ace. Great job breaking down the pros and cons there mate, I'm sure you'll be making something even better in the future.
Cheers dude, yeah looking forward to the next project !
As a 47 year old guy learning to skate, i thank you for your videos from that garden. i wish i would have been your neighbour , although i think your real ones were certainly more ready to make a tontine to buy you out 😉. Good wibes in your home 🤙
Your so good now man!!
Here is some precious tips Bishop. Also, I wish u all success on the new house bro.
Many thanks dude!!
I was just thinking about an add-on extension today, great to see it actually works. Glad your kids like getting involved as well, keep up the good vids.
Many thanks for tuning in dude!
Yeah the moveable extension worked surprisingly well. I put together a vid about the build in case you fancy a peak?
no so sad I'm sure more good times to come in the near future! I know from skating a similar mini ramp that you probably learned a lot from.
Emotional! Helped bring you tricks along nicely. Mikes going to get a lot of use out of it no doubt!
Yeah dude, It will live on though!! Can’t wait to see what Cpt Hook comes up with on it ?!!
Jon I recently discovered your videos and I think you're super inspiring! I just took up skating again at 35 after ten years off. I now have a house with a big garage that I don't use so I'm dreaming about building a modular mini ramp that I can move outside into the sun and back inside for the Canadian winter. Love your videos! Stay radical!
Wicked, that sounds like a great project
@@JonBishopSkate My wife actually told me I could BEFORE I even floated the idea! Of course I'd already figured everything out, including drawing my own plans to match the footprint.
You're a real inspiration Jon! Love the videos!
Loving the 'Auf Wiedersein Pet' style music on the end credits
Ha, now your showing your age 😂
Looking forward to seeing what you build next mate! Currently starting my own mini, thanks for all the useful info
Great stuff Ken.
Yeah I got a few ideas! Really keen on some sort of DIY style offering ??!
@@JonBishopSkate You're only limited by your imagination! If I had the space I'd build a pool...
It will feel fantastic to get something built at the new place with all the lessons and experience gained from this one. I hope it's possible. Guitar shaped concrete bowl in a barn!
Now you are talking !!
Great vid mate. Hoping to have a backyard mini at some point in the not too distant future!
Wicked !!
9:06 What would the aliens think if they were looking down on that?! 😂Such a ridiculously awesome slam 🤙
Lovely Dire Straits soundalike in the end 😁
Wicked, yeah I like a bit of the old Knopfler tone !!
There’s a video of me recording it on my Instagram if you fancy a peak ?? @jonbishopskate
Mate that very first trick is golden. Also, kinda said that it’s gone.
Glad I got to skate the blue pool ramp last month even if I was crap on it..You did a great job of building it Bish
Wicked session though. You got them tail stalls !!
@@JonBishopSkate it was a wicked session great to skate with you 🤙
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow, I think this is the only video of you not wearing a hat of some kind! (kite surfing footage) Keep up the great work Jon 👌👌👌
Ha, yeah GoPro on me helmet, so took the helmet off for handy-cam view. Bald as a coot 😂 I’ve bumped into dudes in the local scene at the supermarket that I haven’t recognised straight away as I only ever see them in a helmet? Perhaps I should summons the courage to do a video with no hat, every chance nobody would recognise me 😂
You must be sad to see it go but it’s been fun seeing you work tricks out on it. I’m just putting the finishing touches to my own little setup in my garage. I bought a 2ft x 6ft qtr pipe last year and have been building a 4ft wide one to go with it in my garage. They should have around 8ft of flat between them when set up. Being 2ft high they are REALLY mellow but as I am a total newb to transitions they should work for me. As you say though, it’s bloody tricky taking it to bigger ramps but at least gives you an idea of the body mechanic.
Yeah dude, that sounds ace!!
04.45 LoL'd made my Monday. Stay stoked :)
Ha!! First try at a comedy cut away 😂
Oh man, that casperish trick you were working on at the end is just begging for a revert!
Not half, I’m finding that the revert can just be added in Willy nilly 😂
Tis a sad day when dismantling the ramp that won't be going with you, I feel your pain :(.
😢 yeah, it’s gone to a good home and will live on!! Got a few things up my sleeve for the next one ☝️
Dead set😪... I built my backyard ramp after watching your videos Jon....Hope you build a bigger and better one at the new place 🛹🛹
It would however still be loud. It's in the laminated maple that is your skateboard. It's not really getting around it unless you have a PVC coping. I really wanted a miniramp in my backyard but I don't want to put my neighbours through it, as a musician I already make noise, so
Agreed, , fully concrete ramp, 78a wheels and rubber coping would be the only way to get close!
Hopefully the new house will have something you can build to ride. Awesome last trick to learn on your ramp. How long have you been using that Anderson board at this point?
Hey Ramon
Many thanks for tuning in.
That deck is 2 years old now! It’s had heavy use, skated it pretty much every day. It’s cracked in the middle, but the rails are stopping it spreading. I’d imagine it will snap soon, but these flight boards are amazing !!
sad to see it go 😔
Hi there. You rock and have inspired to me to get back on my board at 50. Having so much fun. How wide was that ramp and radius? I can build a 2 foot high and 8 foot wide and wondering about radius. For kids and me. Thank you!!!
Hey dude
Many thanks for tuning in!
This ramp was 8ft wide and 3ft high with a 6’6” radius.
It was pretty mellow and great to learn on. I did feel after a year of riding it that it could be a bit steeper, but I guess that’s because I progressed and got more comfortable?
All of the dimensions and the materials list is pinned to the top of the comments on this video.

Hey Jon,
Having recently discovered your channel, I am frothing on your clips. It gives me much hope! What you can do now with a level of comfort and style compared to your earlier clips is night and day.
I am looking at a 2ft mini for our garage to consolidate the basics. I'd say I'm intermediate: I can drop in from a 7ft coping, carve frontside and backside in our local bowl, kickturn etc. but I can't do much on the coping apart from an axel stall drop in as the 3 and 4 foot copings freak me out in terms of trying rock to fakie etc. Do you reckon a 2 foot mini would be worth it for progression or too quickly outgrown?
Keep up the great content, I love it!
Many thanks for the kind words.
Yes, I found having my own mini ramp supercharged progression.
Not only do you get confidence from knowing the ins and outs of the ramp, but you also get to skate loads and I found I could sneak in 10 mins here and there as there was no travel time to factor in.
I would never have grown out of mine, I still prefer to skate small mini ramps for learning. The only problem is they are hard to find in the wild !!
@@JonBishopSkate ok you've sold me Jon! I reckon I could fit a 2.5 foot ramp, though it might be a bit tighter/whippy. But what you said makes sense and reduces fretting...rather than getting hung up on the perfect dimensions, you will learn to skate what you have.
🥺🥺🥺
I was going to suggest a raffle amongst your subscribers to win the ramp but then you told us you already sold it. We’re all going to miss it but I heard through the grapevine that you’re going to pour a bowl in your new garden 😂
I thought of putting it out there, but a local skate mate was keen and it seemed like the perfect home for it !! Yeah, looking forward to the next project for sure !!
I like that ramp extension. how did you do that?
Here’s a video of the build !
ua-cam.com/video/A-FnshiY32A/v-deo.html
This is sick! I’m getting one ordered shortly and will be going in a garage however I’m still worried about noise! I did watch your video on sound dampening which I’ll definitely be using some idea but I still want to take it to the next level, you think a layer under the carpet will work or not at all? And any advice sound proofing the garage, there are a few gaps between the roof and garage doors, not much but still enough for someone to complain, sorry for the long message, hope your all well man and still skating! ✌️ respect man
Hey dude
Many thanks for tuning in.
In terms of garage sound proofing the best would be sealed acoustic plasterboard. For my garage I used Rockwool sound slab insulation and 22mm Sound Bloc plasterboard. I can play drums in there now.
If the ramp is inside I would stuff it full of carpet remnants. The only reason I didn’t use carpet on my ramp was I didn’t want to trap moisture and cause rotting.
I also would fill the coping with concrete.
If you are inside and take a few measures nobody will complain I shouldn’t imagine ? it’s just if you start building structures outside then planning comes into play ??!
@@JonBishopSkate respect that man! I’ll definitely take the extra steps to keep everyone sweet so I can ride in peace! I appreciate that man🚀
Also did you need planning permission for this? Apparently I may need it even though it’s in a garage? It’s a half pipe like your but only 2 and a half ft tall, apparently it’s classed as a built structure or something.. there’s always something maan 🥴
@@ilevakaM9 in the uk no need for planning outside as it’s a moveable structure. Can’t imagine you need planning inside in the uk, You can do what you want inside? Just toilets and hand wash basins etc as that’s change of purpose for a garage ?
@@JonBishopSkate hmm I’ll have to do a little research I’m going ahead regardless but I’ve seen a few people with out door mini ramps be told to remove them but I am inside so we’ll see, thanks Jon! I appreciate the replies! 💯
Does anyone build ramps that are steeper on one side than the other so you’d have a mellow side for tricks that need that and a steeper side for tricks that need more pop or would that throw off the flow?
I think the more common answer to that is building an extension or making a section (both sides) that's taller
I'm planning to build a 12' wide ramp, that's made of a 3' section (8' wide) and 4' section (4' wide). I'm waiting for lumber prices to come down a bit.
Hey Dude that’s an interesting concept. I enjoyed having a moveable extension which sort of did the same job as your solution I think? It was ace for getting more speed and also provided a fun challenge to try and overcome the fear of doing the trick with more consequence. I’ve seen guys have a flat bank one side and a standard transition the other and that seems to work well? There is a local mini ramp here that is fully wonky and built on a slope. Not by design I don’t think, just a dodgy build? One side is a good 1/2 a foot higher? You’d think it was a nightmare, but guys just adapt to it? When I skate it I do stall tricks on the high side and use the extra speed for grinds and pop stuff on the low side? It’s takes some getting use to, but is really fun? I recon from watching other skaters that anything is workable. Perhaps not easy, but guys skate jersey barriers and walls so proves anything is possible?!!
this is literally depressing. I just followed the channel because of the mini ramp and its already gone. Dang man
Don’t worry dude, I found another ramp that is almost exactly the same that I’ve been doing the latest videos on, plus this summer I’ll be popping a new one in at the new gaff. I moved in August so there was no point putting one in for the winter, a job for spring !
This video features the new ramp, it’s the same dimensions as the old ramp only a touch wider and with a skatelite surface. The old ramp is in the video too so you can compare?

@@JonBishopSkate awesome, looking forward to videos for the new one! Love your channel
Great stuff man this was highly entertaining....is there a new ramp or bowl build on the cards?..
Also...Can I ask about using your own music on youtube..Is there anything you do to safeguard against record labels claiming copywrite on your music...Ive heard it has happened alot of channels.
Hey Dude
I create all of the music on the channel. Much of it has been published in other areas, but I hold the copyright. I can’t imagine anyone would make a claim, but if they do I have a audit trail and the masters so they wouldn’t stand a chance ??
Defo thinking of the next project !!
@@JonBishopSkate kool..i,d like to ask a little more about that, how to go about getting copywrite and protecting your own music Ive asked loads of musicians but no one seems to have a clear answer is it better to message you on FB?
@@JonBishopSkate cant wait to see what you have in mind for the next project..)
Sad to hear. Maybe a grind rail or box in the next place?
Yeah dude, I’ve got a few ideas. I like the idea of a little concrete DIY style spot, little ditch, some curbs, perhaps a mini spine?? Could be a fun project?
Either that or a swimming pool !!!!
Is it too late to buy this ramp :) just found the vid and live round the corner.. Hey ho might build one I'm a 40yr old haven't skated for years
Hey Dude
Yeah, my mate got it !
Easy, fun build though. ua-cam.com/video/2393bepydZU/v-deo.html
And that's assuming your board never tumbles or falls etc and makes noise that way
Yeah dude, no way round it. A wooden ramp will make noise. The quietest would be a dug in concrete micro bowl with soft wheels. That’s permanent so will probably need planning and it’d be a pain to take out ??
if you would this ramp again, what transition size would you use this time?
Hey dude, I’d go more whippy for sure! But this was perfect for beginner progression? There is an ace ramp near by, I’d just copy that? But I’d imagine it’d be in the 6 foot radius range !
I think i will use the same transition was you had there if I build a 3ft, but due to space constraints I am thinking about building a 2ft ramp as a start. @@JonBishopSkate
RIP the back yard mini ramp 😭😭😭
Sad to see it go, but It will live on at it’s new home !
Are you selling it?
Hey dude
All sold and away to its new home !
Why did you sell it John was it the neighbors?
Hey Dude
I moved house/area and it was just not practical to take it with us sadly 😞
@@JonBishopSkate gutted at least now if you do build another you can build one with a steeper transition! Was wondering with that being 6.6 what would you recommend or go for next time if you was to build another 3ft ramp?
@@Ashley-ji3jz not sure on a dimension TBH dude?? it wasn’t far off TBF, it was modelled on a local quarter pipe that was famed for it’s ease of use and it’s propensity to promote progression. If I were to build another I think I’d use the same process and find a 3 foot mini ramp that I liked and then just copy it ??
Ha that was a weird kind of dire straits rip off at the end there
Yeah, it was from a ‘learn to play like Mark Knofler’ tutorial I put together for Guitar Techniques magazine a few years ago. It seemed to fit there for some reason ?? 😂
@@JonBishopSkate haha it was good I didn't realise it was you playing it. Very easy to tell it was Mark Knopfler licks but nothing at all bad about that. Have you seen the guy that did if Dire Straits wrote Layla? I thought that was spot on 😉
Yeees that's right, I've enjoyed the ride so far, looking forward to your next chapter. Meantime if you need somewhere to skate you're welcome at our ramp anytime. Here's a battle you might enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/bVE5vjpRUvY/v-deo.html
Wicked dude, Crikey is that your own bowl???
@@JonBishopSkate yeah a bunch of us built it, it started out as a mini ramp 6 years ago and we've gradually added to it, bowled it out and made it a bit deeper.
Looks amazing, great stuff, where are you based?
