    I've been fighting with 50-50 grinds for a long time and what worked for me is to think of the grinds as extended carving. What I mean is that I go up diagonally as if I would be carving but I keep going up until I lock in my trucks, I put a bit of pressure in the back foot just to keep it locked in on the right position.
    The important part here is to keep the body inside the ramp, I never try to launch myself up and stand on the deck, otherwise the trucks will not lock in perfectly and ready to drop back in. The shoulder as you have noticed is important, turn your shoulders like when doing a carve and the skate will follow.
    It is nice to do like that specially when skating a bowl, grinding in the curved areas of the bowl and get that nice and smooth flow going.

    It's the kitesurfing heritage that is making your front shoulder open. I have exactly the same problem. What helped me forcing my front hand to the inside of my front knee.

      @@JonBishopSkate I have actually found a nice 3ft mellow quarter that is pretty wide so can hopefully maybe start having a go at some grinds. I have been practising axel in drop ins on leek bowl and seem to be getting the hang of them but yeh they look great fun

    Yah what gets me on grinds is when the front back trucks aren't cross locked, front toe wheel back heel wheel, then I'm basically either coming right back into the ramp or going for a coffee break on the deck. Nice follow up vid 👍, love it when you come back to something with more insight and a higher degree of difficulty! 🛹🔥💯🤜

    Great stuff mate, I’ve spent so much time on these over the past couple of years too because they are so much fun, I lock in with the total opposite diagonals which is far less common but it really helped me not open my shoulders like you were talking about, the other thing that helped with that was blasting through and grinding round the bowl corner it’s such a buzz you should try them too, my last upload has a few but so do most of them as it’s become my go to run in the bowl now.
    Keep it up 👊🏼

When i see better skaters doing trick tips, i dont learn as much because they are on a lever too high. See your approach is so inspiring. Please do the 5-0 to fakie !

      Yeah 5/0 Fakie is proper scary!
      I recorded a video on the feeble Fakie, which is pretty similar, all be it the front wheel is in the air with the 5/0 as opposed to being on the deck for the feeble?

    Hey Jon, great job. I'm also practising them currently. As some comments before I recommend you to cross grind them from the beginning. You change your back axle position anyway when coming in. It's more stable and looks more fluent.

    Jon- it’s scary how good you are getting not only with your skating but the quality of your instruction and content. Epic stuff! Do you think surfing causes you to open your left shoulder too much?

      I m much better, thanks for asking dude. Skating less than last Spring to be honest, but have also been surfing several weekends in a row, also doing a lot of yoga and swimming to compensate. My sciatical pain seems to be gone so far, we'll see.
      By the way, I fully agree with one of the comments below on how good and I'd add commited skater you are becoming. I love your slogan but I think you are more now a middle guy ripping than learning. Cheers mate!

    Looking smooth. Respect man, that 7'! Maybe it could help to try point your forward hand inside the bowl, then the shoulder follows as well. When you get up to start the pivot/grind, forward arm is sometimes pointed to the aft, probably to prevent over rotating. I'm no expert, just observing from other videos. Unfortunately I'm now a YT skater, waiting for a meniscus surgery. Did you try to go up to start the grind a little later and take a piece of that corner, or maybe next video, grinding the corner? Haha, keep the videos coming, I like to see the progress.

    You can try to learn locking in with the trucks crisscrossed already from the beginning. To do that you have to grind more inside the ramp than you did here. I hope you can imagine what I'm saying 😁

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  3 роки тому

      Yeah, totally,
      I do the criss crossed one a few times in here (4.00) and it feels great. I found that there is more friction though so I was coming up short of the full rail, but it looks more stylish and feels better. I think it’s the one I like to do the most?? I recon even more speed and better weight distribution during the grind would help. Next challenge is to go round corners, I’m guessing it’s all about guiding with the shoulder? Do you have any tips for B/S 50/50 round a corner? Cheers dude

    • @coretex8504
      @coretex8504 3 роки тому +1

      @@JonBishopSkateyeah I saw that after I made the comment 😁. Crisscrossed lock-in grinds slower but way more controllable. You just have to be a little faster. Look at it this way: being all the way up on top is not a grind, but essentially rolling on the deck 😁
      for going round the corner its even more crucial not being all the way on the deck, but locking in crisscrossed, leaning a bit into the ramp, going full speed and yes lead with the shoulder.

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  3 роки тому +1

      CORE TEX thanks dude, yeah I think it’s still a 50/50 grind with both toe wheels locked against the coping? That’s the way they are done on ledges and hubbas? It’s also the way I do the frontside 50/50 grind as the back heel wheel has to be locked against the coping to come back in? My mate does them with both toe wheels locked against the coping and then comes in without correcting the back wheel which results in a hop in (very cool) He can also go round corners this way??! Another mate of mine does them with both heel wheels locked on the coping, so he’s right inside the ramp? don’t know how he does it? But it works !!
      Cheers, off to the park to try round the corners !!
