    Hey John! Great video! I just started building a mini ramp in my garage and I've found your videos to be very imformative and inspiring! I'm in a similar situation as you were, my local ramps are all pretty whippy but I really want something I can skate and progess on for a long time. I'm going with a 2' overall height and a 6' radius. Stay rad!

    It was a good idea to build the ramp with the dimensions you did. Else you probably wouldn't have learned so much so quickly. You had a headstart on me (started riding the ramps again in March 2020) and I had to learn on a steeper concrete Ramp. I consider myself quite decently talented (skater buddies already call me a fast learning skateboarder) spend quite some time in the park and am a few years younger. But you have way more tricks in the book than I do. I'd love to have a ramp like yours to learn new tricks on. For frontside stalls I had to go to another park with a baby quarter to find the courage to dropping back in for example.

    Hi John stockboard is a good replacement for plywood made from recycled plastic comes in 3mm 6mm 9mm 12mm and 18mm you Can put a layer of 6 mm on top of your plywood if it ever goes bad it wood make it bullet proof or Make a hole ramp out of it no maintenance ever no Messing around with covering it up just a big squeegee wipe off the water and skate squeegee will be good for your plywood to

    • @JonBishopSkate

      Hey dude,
      Yeah I looked into it I think, but I was concerned as to how the surface would be to ride? The stuff on the local indoor skate park resi ramp is similar black plastic and that’s like an ice rink ???

    Great stuff!! Careful with the extension. I built a 2x4 quarter with a fairly steep trans. Hit the coping with a bit of gusto and it can tip backward a bit. 'Emotional!!'. Make sure the extension is bolted/fixed 👍

      @@badsn, for me, first learning any blunt trick is super sketchy. So I prefer to learn them on smaller quarters first. It is harder to pop out of it though.

    One comment about your point of using soft wheels.... works great for some stuff, but the moment you try anything with reverts, you're begging for flat spots.
    Learning Nosestall reverts basically turned my slightly softer wheels into triangles.

    Great video Jon! Can I ask how much you payed for your birch plywood per sheet? There was a leak in my shed with the recent snow and my 3mm hardboard layer got destroyed :( It's been a pita getting new sheets back on as they won't fit where the old ones did. I also discovered that guides recommend 'tempered' hardboard, not standard which I had, which would last longer. I might look into birch in the long term but at around £50 a sheet (I'd need 10 or 11) it wasn't really a cost i'd factored in...

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  3 роки тому

      Yeah, it’s good to shop around, not sure about any of that shed stuff TBH. The 9mm 8x4 sheets I got were around £30 plus vat from the merchants, from B n Q and the likes it’d be a lot more ??!

    • @Asator66
      @Asator66 3 роки тому +1

      @@JonBishopSkate Cheers! Sorry I didn't make that very clear haha, the hardboard was the top layer of my ramp, which is inside a shed. Got a new layer of it on but next time I might go for birch. Just did my first coping trick yesterday which was a fakie tail stall.. not much of a trick but it's something.. It's 4ft so pretty scary to me but soo much fun!
