AEA Harpoon, Always inspect the firing pins before loading!

  • Please inspect your firing pins! The shotgun I received has one of two firing pins protruding out farther than it should and it could result in accidental firing when closing the breach. When you fully cock the gun it is not a problem, just when you slightly open enough to load the air cylinders.

    I definitely appreciate the focus on safety. But, A light strike/ scratch will not fire the cartridges, it will just hiss. It takes a full power strike to create enough vacuum inside the cartridge to actually fire the projectile. Also you need to have your barrels adjusted correctly so there’s no impediment when you’re closing the action.

      Barrels out and air cartridges still hit hard on right firing pin but I found a work around that will not ruin the pin coming up in next vid, thanks for your reply!

      @@AtmoTacOutdoors that fact that it may still
      Puncture is a factor that should be taken seriously. There is absolutely no way for you or anyone to say without a doubt that it’s safe and need full impact and it always act as such. I apologize if this comes out rude but that’s just a foolish argument. Why people can’t say thank you and work together! I happen to agree with him and these things are going to be hitting the streets really soon and I’m not talking about for sale. I mean the streets! They just haven’t caught in to air guns I guess. That and the price.
      God bless you guys.

    What the Harpoon really needs is a safety that you can engage whenever the gun is cocked. 😂

      And perhaps the firing pins safely behind the metal plate at all times and a user manual. 😎

    Your right it’s gonna wear down but when your skidding it down and it’s running on the cylinder on the way down once it hits the hole weather a lip or not it’s possible for it to pop down due to the pressure of the spring. You are very right about that. Your sliding it with pressure and if there’s enough once it gets to the hole that pressure will be released pushing into the cartridge. Holy moly! I’m not sure Poe understand what compressed air can do. How’s about heat and cold? 🥶 🥵

      When you watch other UA-camr’s videos notice the scratch marks on air cylinders as they load them it is not just mine! All AEA had to do is make sure the firing pins were behind the plate and there would be no worries! The other consideration is the cartridges hold 3x the amount of air but are using the same disc bursts as the original but the whole in the cap is about 30% larger which makes it that much easier to burst. And you’re right I wouldn’t keep this loaded in my vehicle on a hot day. Thanks for your input it is very appreciated!

    sounds like an emotional response to a minor situation, with lack of testing I doubt its as "dangerous" as you claim it is.

      Sounds like an emotional response from a rookie who doesn’t have respect for a weapon. The solution is simple just be aware of the firing pins

    Another thing, you set off a primer in a firearm cartridge..outside of the chamber...the brass splits...the bullet is not dangerous. If one of these , goes off outside the chamber...and you have already inserted your projectile...that projectile is coming out with serious force. I have seen people handling these pressurized, with projectiles inserted...pointing every which way.....its why I didnt buy one. You also bring up great points !!!

      Thank you, thank you! Many people here think I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill and don’t think there is a serious risk it is crazy! These are brand new air cartridges that hold 3 time the air volume as the previous generation and people really need to be smart on how they handle them!

    That does look quite scary. I’d be very nervous too. They needed to put a transfer bar safety on it. I think a good invention would be a 3d printed cap that can go over the back of those cartridges for when not in use. AEA might be in for a lawsuit if someone gets named or God forbid killed

    Great video! I have had someone send me their defender where the hammer spring was to tight and the firing pin was protruding all by itself just like that. Crazy there is not a spring to hold them back slightly like in the defenders.

      Great to hear from you again Cody it has been a long time! I have another video coming in just a few hours showing some of the internals, it is well designed except for the firing pins sticking out. Some comments suggest this is not an issue but I prefer the pins to be completely concealed.

    The one I’ve shot the pins do not go past the plastic, neither one do the only time it could potentially scratch the cartridges would be if I had the barrels in to far which makes it hard to close. I tried many different lengths and weight of pellets and if you set the barrels to the length for the pellets you use and stay with that size there wasn’t an issue with the cartridges rubbing or closing. Maybe you have a defect in the one you own, the one I have there’s no issues at this time with about 20 plus rounds put through it .

    How does the slug fire with the disc on the opposite side ?

    • @airgunnerreviews7888
      @airgunnerreviews7888  Місяць тому +1

      On the opposite end of the burst disc there is a valve that closes when filled with air and when the firing pin pokes a tiny hole in the Burst disk it creates a vacuum and the valve opens and the air pushes the slug forward with over 100 fpe with the 4” barrels

      This issue is leaving AEA open for a future lawsuit. Surprisingly there is no manual and no safety warnings or loading precautions.With a manual they could write “always fully cock the Harpoon before loading” or “always inspect firing pins”.

    Just want to say light strike will not fire carts. Thats what caused hiss instead of bang on D2. Im going to fully test this theory.

    • @airgunnerreviews7888
      @airgunnerreviews7888  Місяць тому +1

      A light strike may or may not puncture but the pins should not stick out at all and they stick out enough that I need the slam shut the receiver which will add unnecessary where on the point of the striking pin

      @@airgunnerreviews7888 no matter what, I absolutely agree with your logic in the sense that safety should always be the first part of the discussion with these tools. However. I think that this theory is worth testing to see if it is an actual danger, or if it is simply a perceived danger that is not necessarily a problem. Here’s an example. I see a lot of asbestos at work. Sometimes I see stuff that looks like asbestos, but it ain’t. I still call a stop work, and have the industrial hygienist test whatever material I suspect may be an asbestos product, but sometimes it comes back, totally benign and I’m wrong. In this case w the harpoon, and with the asbestos questions, it’s always best to test it.👍

    Excellent video!!! 👍
    😳😳😳 My friend I think you discovered an excellent safety concern... 💁
    My story- I had a negligent discharge years with my 12 gauge HR break-over (aka: break-action) shotgun (not CO2, but a legitimate firearm).
    For anyone not knowing a break-over/action is the design of this item in the video.
    Okay... See how the firing pin sticks out a bit, and on the shell the blister seal is extremely similar to the function of the real weapon, but the pin sets back a bit... just enough to trap a tiny piece of gravel I must have introduced from my pocket when pulling out the next shell.
    I reloaded and have shot many thousands of rounds and I'm super anal about doing everything right, however as chance may have it my number was up... 😳💥🔥🤯😵‍💫🤬🤬🤬🚑🩺🩻😬🙈
    When I pulled up the barrel with a flick the little gravel filling the space between the firing pin and primer caused a negligent discharge and the barrel was not all the way, nor in the locked position...
    This nearly ripped the barrel off causing the gun to fling out of my hand and rip the hell out of my thumb in the process cutting me badly and fracturing my left thumb.
    This is what I fear may happen with this launcher in the demo. i feel this is extremely unsafe and needs immediate attention by the mfg and community asap!!!
