How much energy does your launcher REALLY have? Byrna Salt S2 Umarex
Переглядів 39821 годину тому
For beginners! This is how you figure the average amount of joules your launcher produces out of one clip of magazine. It is unreasonable to think you have a 20 joule launcher because of one power shot! Using the average fps is a reasonable approach to finding how many joules your launcher is capable of. Please inspect your firing pins! The shotgun I received has one of two firing pins protruding out farther than it should and it could result in accidental firing when closing the breach. When you fully cock the gun it is not a problem, just when you slightly open enough to load the air cylinders.

    Just buy what you want. Comparisons are nice, but they are 2 different systems. So of course they have different levels of operation. I have a Byrne LE. I can shoot like 15-20 on one CO2. But the point is to use it to stop or slow down so you can escape. And if you can’t escape, I guarantee you that 2 mags of 7 shots each will stop just about anyone. Plus I can reload in 5 seconds. 2-3 in the groin and if needed 10 in the head. I have a 1000lum light and a laser sight accurate to 40ft. But I am sure that the other one will work just as good if the shots are placed well. Cheers

    Thats right man i have same pistol with valve removed and it is super powerful i dont not how many joules have but pass trough a coconut with 8.7 grams round balls im scared when i shot it cuz i filing the shots with to much power . I thinking it can be letal easily if u shot in the head or you gonna broke bones if shots in the chest thats no joke gun very danger for sure you stop any one with the first shot to put the intruder down in the ground. Of course you only can shot 4 shoots or 5 but you dont need that much rounds to stop a intruder just with the first shot a full power. My gun shots 5 shots one a full 100% power the number 2 shot at 90% the 3rd shot at 70% of power and the shot number 4 at 50% of power . So the first and second shots are the good ones

  • @JayJone5169
    @JayJone5169 2 дні тому

    10 joules probably won't do much with clothes on, more like 20 joules and up are better chances especially to face if against a zombie, crazy, superhuman, even 9mm won t stop some ppl right away unless its a head shot, having a firearm is better but still doesn't garrentee u win a gun fight, u can aim face shots better with less lethal also, the best thing is to stay outta harms way because u can still lose even with firearm especially if not knowing how to aim good, I would never brag about having a firearm because it can get tooking as soon as its used buy law, and going to trial, etc.

    • @Joreel
      @Joreel 2 дні тому

      That is very true which is why no one recommends using a less lethal against a firearm. The good news is that firearms are used in less than 5% of assaults or crimes according to both FBI and Nation crime statistics collected by police department across the nation. Knives and blunt force weapons are the most common and less lethal weapons can be very effective in those situations. As someone who has experienced both tear gas and pepper spray during my time in the military, I can attest to the effects of these chemicals, especially when combined. I've also been shot by a Byrna SD in the ribs (My fault as it was an accident) and I can tell you they hurt like hell, so two or three hits will drop most people. If you mix the rounds, they are even more effective.

    This video should help many of the potential buyers out there make an informed decision. Thanks for sharing with us. I do have some thoughts to add to the discussion. I personally will not buy another "big bulky" launcher. There are many bulky options that have good power but they just aren't for EDC. To me the Salt Supply S2 is too big also but I love the consistency. My TCP has mostly be relegated to the car or an off-body carry bag for select situations because of the size. Less Lethal pistols will continue to be an enigma. Small and compact is essential and the Byrna SD seems to fit the bill in almost every way but the desired power. I think at some point everyone is going to start to realize that we've already reached the max power per inch and learn to live with that. UA-camrs will continue to tease "gains" but it's really only tiny fraction increases at this point without elaborate HPA tanks, big CO2 carts, or carbine builds which are irrelevant for EDC.

    • @airgunnerreviews7888
      @airgunnerreviews7888 2 дні тому

      You are right on 100%! There is not much more that can be done with 12 grams of C02 and the industry is going bigger to make up the power, to me it is going in the wrong direction. I would like to see HPA reserve incorporated in a compact launcher to add power and temperature consistency.

    Thank you for your videos. I have been debating which one of these to choose. Everyone is different but for me priorities are #1 Dependability, #2 Consistency, #3 Effectiveness. Also for me concealability. For brute power, it looks like the S2 is king. However, for a short round bellied guy, of the 3, the S2 is too large. For concealability the LE and the SD are close with the SD having a bit of an advantage. Between the LE and the SD - I really like the LE's sights, but had the idea of painting the sights of and SD for low light situations was reinforced by your video. While the SD has the least power in joules, research seems to show the average distance a firearm is used in self-defense is about 3 to 7 yards and I'm hoping that within that distance the SD (first round a kinetic) can provide sufficient inspiration to deter an assailant. If not the second round (Byrna Max) will help the assailant to weep over their decision to attack. After that, to avoid crying myself as the range between the assailant and myself may be reduced, the 3rd to 5th rounds will be kinetic. Hopefully 3,4, and 5 will supply sufficient owees to deter any further aggression. If multiple assailants need to be addressed the ability to swiftly load a second magazine seems to very important. To a poor (financially) guy like me the least amount to invest for resource to effectively bring about my goals/desired results, while being dependable and consistent have lead me decide on the SD. Thank you again for your videos.

      @airgunnerreviews7888 2 дні тому

      You’re making a wise choice! There is no sense ordering a launcher with more power if you’re not going to carry it because your outfit won’t conceal properly. I carry my SD all the time it just fits better and I know it goes bang 100% of the time. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

    A very good overview of these products and the good and bad points of each. I love my Byrna Hi Viz and its reliable. I also love the 50 Joule HDX I have for home defense. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Lancer Tactical Higos when it comes out next month (last we heard). It's a 35 Joule .68 launcher that will be under two hundred. If it lives up to the claims, it'll give the Gavle a run for its money at less than half the cost. Where all of these really shine is when you mix in the chemical rounds with your kinetic rounds. Honestly it doesn't matter what you get on the second and third magazine as in most all cases, its the first magazine that will get you out of the situation and to safety. If you have to reload, you're probably screwed at that point LoL.

    One of the most detailed videos I have seen on the subject. I always get a lot of questions on what works best and what people should purchase. I always tell everyone if you're not carrying it. The S2 is definitely what I would pick up. There are so many options in less lethal nowadays and it continues to grow since the market continues to demand it. Going to be a very interesting next couple of years as we see what hits the market. I tell everyone who asked that there are lots of us out here discussing these alternatives and it's best to watch everyone and pick your own weapon that will work for you. Here's hoping they find this video since these are the three that seem to be advertised and promoted on most of the channels. Great video. Well thought out and very well presented. Keep it up.

    I really hope people use as much sense as possible, when relying on such a product. This product is absolutely no where near the reliability it should have. People should get a firearm if you need to defend yourself. If your not allowed to have a firearm, not my problem, that’s your problem, you obviously did something to achieve that. People need to understand though, if you fire this at someone with a firearm, your gonna get someone throwing lead back at you. This is the worst product ever and people who are claiming it is great are insane. You will only piss someone off, really bad. It may deter some people, but the rest of us are throwing lead back at you. This is the worst idea ever made for self protection. Just a guess here but listen, neither gun is designed to store with punctured co2, right? But still techncally being contained pressure systems, means that each has a specific amount of EXTRA co2 escapping during each shot. Escaping to...? Whereever it can go depending on the shape of the plastic just past the metal valve. Meaning if the plastic isnt vented or spacious enough to disperse the air enough.. that co2 bounces back and cools down the metal valve even more than just firing it already had, and droppin the cylinder temperature even lower with each shot. So you have a co2 cylinder, pressurized within a cold metal valve, surrouned by thick cold plastic. Yaa its not warming up anyime soon.. So presuming you're aware that co2 pressure increases dramatically with heat...well, thats why the byrna started off strong and got weaker with each shot. The salt might just be shapped better to keep cylinder stable temp. Try breaking the rules just slightly and letting byrna sit and warm back up for like a half hour after firing each shot. Id wager itd be a lot more consistent.

    • @airgunnerreviews7888

    Well, I'm very conflicted, I don't like the looks of the S2, as it looks like a BB gun and to me that has reduces it effectiveness as a deterrent to would be attackers. I was ready to buy the Byrna LE, but It looks like according to your analysis that I would be better off buying the SD. This video is 5 months old, and I wonder if Byrna has done anything to improve the LE since then. I don't know what to do now. I have watched a dozen videos, including your video "5 reasons to buy a Byrna LE" and I'm thoroughly stuck in the mud now.

      I totally understand where you’re coming from! The S2 is too large to carry in my opinion and I keep it as a back up in my vehicle. Out of the box the LE is more powerful but unfortunately I have had two of them blow the seal and after repair the velocity is not the same as before the repair. Typically I lose 100 fps between the first and second shot, this was not the case on either LE before repair! I also own 2 SD models and never had an issue with either! Also have purchased several 8 gram air cartridges off of Amazon and have had no issues using them in the SD. Byrna offers a 12 month warranty and very good customer service just make sure you keep your order number and register the launcher.I really like the compact size, lightness and reliability of the SD and find myself carrying it more because it is the easiest to conceal, more power would be nice but I do have trust issues with my LE. Good luck!!!

    Good and well narrated lesson for beginners, I'm sure even experienced less lethal members has gained something new. Question what is the difference between the chrono you used and the one hand held such as that used by Rune Rebel and wich one between the two do you recommend for testing mostly outside?

    • @airgunnerreviews7888
      @airgunnerreviews7888 8 днів тому

      Hi there! The hand held unit is called x-radar and is specific to less lethal and paintball do to the fact it can read fps to only around 700 fps, the one you would need to get would be the one that has a mustard colored button $150-$180 price range. The red button x-radar only reads up to around 300 fps if I remember correctly. The x-radar can be difficult to hold while shooting a rifle since it has to be held 1” from the muzzle but can be done with a little effort. You also need to hold the button down while shooting and keep holding until you record the numbers otherwise it’s gone! However it is much more convenient to just grab and shoot rather than dragging out the tripod. I own both units and have used both at the same time and both are very accurate. In most cases you get a higher fps reading with the hand held because the projectile is on its way out and the other unit is capturing the reading after leaving the barrel. Also worth mentioning is the traditional tripod chronograph can be used for recording all types of firearms as well. Hope that helps!

    The velocity of the 2.9 gram Byrna fired from the Grimburg Gavle would probably be very high.

      @Joreel 9 днів тому

      @@jameslitsey2512Jon said why he didn't show the Joules... It wasn't the point of the video. He was asked to see if the Gavle could fire the Byrna rounds, and you can. Of course he's a business man, he's running a company at the flea market.

    • @airgunnerreviews7888
      @airgunnerreviews7888 8 днів тому

      I can’t speak for the Gavle but I have tried the Byrna kinetic rounds in my Papperball police carbine (45 joules) and the accuracy was not very good, but if you try to push them out past 40 ft some of the projectiles don’t even come close to a target! The problem is they are too light and they come out of the barrel with a crazy spin like you’re hitting a foul ball. I think the higher power launchers need the heavier rounds. Thanks for your feedback!

    Nice review, well done and thoughtfully explained. I wonder what the Byrna 2.9 gram projectiles will do when shot from the Salt s2?

    • @airgunnerreviews7888
      @airgunnerreviews7888 8 днів тому

      I have tested them in the S2 and average more joules than the Byrna LE for the first 6 shots (1 clip) The LE did have one shot over 20 joules though. Thanks for watching!

    Regarding the safety not going on after the first shot, what happens if you open and re-cock it?

    • @airgunnerreviews7888
      @airgunnerreviews7888 9 днів тому

      re-cocking will reset the previous fired barrel so you could put on safety and dry fire the first barrel or move the loaded cartridge to the first barrel. But it doesn’t change the fact that at some point you need to dry fire or un-cock the weapon. It’s by no means a deal breaker but it would have been nice if a manual was included so you don’t have to figure these things out the hard way!

    • @forestdweller5374
      @forestdweller5374 9 днів тому

      @@airgunnerreviews7888 Agreed. You could also re-cock it and set it to firing both barrels so you don't have to pull the trigger twice to fire the second barrel. Of course they should have made it so that safety goes on at all times. Are you sure it's not a defect with your particular gun?

    • @airgunnerreviews7888
      @airgunnerreviews7888 9 днів тому

      I don’t think it is defective in order for the safety to work it has to lock both firing bolts since they work independently. Your right I could re-cock and use the double fire feature. My only problem with that is not with the weapon it is with my aging memory to put it back on single fire before reloading and firing lol! 😂. Thanks for your input it is very much appreciated!

    I'm not sure why people don't take these seriously, I would love for people who call these toys to try n take a shot from a"toy"/airgun like this and tell me it's not threatening or as good! At least power wise ! If im playing devils advocate, though... let me say this, i believe if you can carry a firearm, then you should 100% or at least maybe both, real for backup. But i say this cause i would much rather have this than nothing at all, especially if you are a felon or ex felon, parole, probation, etc. Or simply cause of your local b.s. laws. This to me would be not bad for home defense, truck type gun. extra for reload already aired up. Then almost as simply like putting 2 more shells in a shotgun. Almost lol

    Never ceases to amaze me how much money people are willing to WASTE on these obscenely expensive pop guns. 442fps is comical and about as threatening as a housefly. Boys with toys pretending to be men with guns.

      Never ceases to amaze me how some people get caught up in feet per second and not foot pounds of energy! According to the FBI it takes 63 fpe to kill a person and this toy “as threatening as a housefly” as you say is firing a 239 grain slug (over 5 x the weight of a 22 caliber bullet) with over 100 foot pounds of energy. Sir if you get shot with just one slug in the chest you are not getting back up without surgery that is if you live long enough to make it to the hospital.
