Same here. I ordered a Burna...but then saw videos of the Burna firing capsules at a person wearing a light to medium winter jacket. The capsules failed to burst, and the capsules caused no deterrent pain for the target, due to the jacket protecting the wearer.
@@TrilobitesRTasty I had to confront a homeless guy a few weeks ago. He was looking through my patio at 2 a.m. I was wide awake and got my camera notification. I stepped out onto my balcony which overlooks the front door/ patio and yelled at him. I also had the S2 in one hand and that probably scared him away. I am just upset that I wasted a co2 cartridge by puncturing it beforehand. LOL Luckily for him he walked away or else I had 2 mags ready to unload! @@DavidtheFoodie I fully agree with using less lethal defense in situations you describe. I ended up purchasing several of the "Sabre Aim and Fire Pepper Gel with Trigger and Grip Deployment System" product...for under $50 each. maybe you will not even need it one time in your live, but nevertheless a must have, but I would take anytime the HDP/HDR over the Byrna or Salt, you can buy two Pistol and a Revolver for one Salt!
Outstanding demonstration between Byrna's LE and Salt Supply's new S2. I had the very same experience with my LE, so I also purchased the S2 during the Shot Show 2024. S2 extremely consistent output between 15-20 joules. With the exception of the LE's first shot, the S2 blows it away. I still own the HDXL and SD. They are both consistent at around 10 joules. I like the SD because it's easily concealable to carry, especially at S.O.B. (small-of-back.) Whoever designs a launcher the size of an SD (or smaller,) that shoots consistently between 15-20 joules will dominate this market. Your excellent demonstrate is proof positive!!
was the byrna leaking air? worn seal? Years ago i played paintball and when my gun started to loose fps, it was either, running out air or there was leak....
Wow!! That is what I call," the proof is in the pudding"!! I'd like to know if you've heard from anybody from Byrna and what they had to say about this video. I'm glad I seen this because I was about to purchase a Byrna!! Thank you Sir for this video!
No response from Byrna but videos like this will hopefully force them to up their game, they are definitely behind the times when it comes to power and consistency! Thanks for watching
Was about to buy a LE, went with the S2 now.. google is putting your video top of search results so byrna gonna get burned for the poor customer service… penny wise, pound foolish.
Outstanding test as always. I do rely like my S2. I wish I could have done a comparison video. But both my Byrnas broke a long time ago and I can’t bring myself to give Byrna any more money until they get their act together. Thanks for the great video. And I hope you enjoy the S2 as well.
It’s a physically larger launcher. That certainly plays a part in the power differential. And they have taken the appropriate time to tune it optimally. The results speak for themselves. Great job as always.
A physically larger launcher isn't going to account for power in these guns. The LE is losing gas somewhere, it has nothing to do with it being smaller.
Really consistent first 8 shots! Thank you for posting this and how many shots you get before running out of CO2. They (Salt Supply) seem to have figured out optimizing the power. Prior to the repair were the two launchers comparable for the first 8 shots?
12 shots gets you down to 180 fps and that pretty much is it! The LE is advertised to have a 7 shot average of 340 fps and it is capable of hitting that mark when new but the first few shots are always high fps and drops. This test shows the S2 had a 7 shot average of 364 and a 10 shot average of 350. It is very consistent!
Excellent comparison video! For Byrna to be charging $479 for a “professional” launcher that gives subpar numbers is ridiculous! Sounds like that high markup is really going to pay for their advertising. There are only 2 things I like about the Byrna, and that’s the “point and shoot” technology, and it’s a little more compact. The pushing the button on the bottom may not always be ideal when carrying outside the home. That is where the Byrna has a huge advantage. However, in the home I see the Salt Supply along with a modified HDR and HDP 50 being my “go to” launchers.
You hit it right on the nose and that is exactly how I feel about it! I probably won’t carry it but it will be in my vehicle in case of a road rage incident etc.
Just buy what you want. Comparisons are nice, but they are 2 different systems. So of course they have different levels of operation. I have a Byrne LE. I can shoot like 15-20 on one CO2. But the point is to use it to stop or slow down so you can escape. And if you can’t escape, I guarantee you that 2 mags of 7 shots each will stop just about anyone. Plus I can reload in 5 seconds. 2-3 in the groin and if needed 10 in the head. I have a 1000lum light and a laser sight accurate to 40ft. But I am sure that the other one will work just as good if the shots are placed well. Cheers
More proof that all Byrna wants is your money. When people can't admit the truth they just walk away. Yours is another great video proving the S2 trumps Byrna and that they are falling down to the bottom of the list.
Recheck your math… the Byrna never shot under 280, yet the 12-shot avg says 265. Excel says it’s 298.5 avg 12-shot for Byrna. Salt still wins with those first shots being so consistent at 326.66 (12 shot avg)
I stand corrected! I rechecked and you are correct, good catch! I’m pretty sure in a self defense situation it is unlikely you will be reloading so the biggest consideration would be the first clip. Byrna 7 round average is 310 (12.88 Joules) and the Salt S2 six round average is 365. (17.85 Joules). Thanks for keeping me in check and for watching!!!
Just got the LE to replace the Tippman TipX which is very large but never fails, and has the same pull the trigger to activate mechanism. Wish I saw your channel before purchasing. Right out of the box it wont fire unless you press the mag in while shooting. They said they will repair it but now sounds like this is a serious quality control or engineering problem, or both. Very disappointed, they lost my business and wonder if is worth trying to fix it myself.
Nice job ! The first launcher I purchased was a Bynra, and 20 launchers later the first launcher I sold from my collection Byrna. I won't say there JUNK but it pays to advertise DEFINITELY not worth the money! By the way, I just purchased a salt2 today after watching your video I feel good about my purchase . I am a big First Strike guy I own 5 that I have built and honestly my favorite. Thanks for the time that you took to give us a very informative comparison
I truly hate that I bought the Byrna and wasted all that money on it and then wasted more money to make it look normal...I'll wait a little longer to see how salt supply customer service is compared to Byrna which I'm sure is much better and I'm buying a Salt S2
Salt Supply Customer service is amazing. They're probably one of the best I've experienced in the last few years when it comes to getting things done quickly.
The EP shoots about what the le is doing, but I've seen some les work good too, I think the EP is best, it does like 3 mags before it's out, but around 10-12 joules before gas gets low!
Thank you for the test you did on the BYRNA vs SALT. I thought it was very methodical and the way testing should be done. I bought a BYRNA LE a couple of months ago and am very happy with it. However I don't have the Chronographs to do what you did. Because of your test I bought a SALT and anxiously waiting for it. There is one thing I haven't found anyone has done, and that is test Kinetic rounds. For example, You have the BYRNA rounds that measure .6845" which has about .006" clearance in the bore of the BYRNA. Amazon has a very nice Kinetic round that measures .6785". My curiosity is, does the smaller Amazon round affect the FPS a lot or a little or at all. Having more clearance in the bore theoretically should lessen the FPS. But no one knows how much or how little. Would you consider testing these two rounds? The cost difference between the BYRNA and Amazon are quite significant! Thank you in advance for your answer!
I will look into what Amazon is offering, in the mean time I would head over to Less Lethal For Dummies UA-cam channel Sean has tested a lot of different round! Thanks for watching!
I've owned our Byrna SD for 2 years and it has been flawless! I try to practice once a month or so and NEVER had a problem! For me pull-and- peirce is priceless! When i practice, I get 3 magazines before it really drops pressure. 15 shots should be more than enough.......or it's time for plan B.....😅
Wow, people are telling you to do like a graph chart, or do all these other tests and theories and scenarios. Jesus Christ it was just a simple straightforward quick demonstration. Thank you very much for taking the time to do that!
I'm curious how much less powerful the "repaired" byrna LE is compared to a new one. Also has the Salt ever been repaired? This could also effect the test. Also did you fire the byrnas first shot with the CO2 cartridge pre-pierced with the safety on or did you fire the first shot without doing so (can make the first shot be half the power). Also since you swapped for every shot instead of just consistently firing with the same gun how much CO2 was lost between firing and writing things down? I personally prefer the byrna because it's magazine fed which means you can have a faster reload time if the situation requires it. Also the magazine has a tool built into it to allow for easy CO2 swaps. I think these are both great options for launchers it just depends on what you're using them for or how you plan on using them.
Thank you for your input and great questions! This is my second Byrna LE, my first one also failed and after repair did not have the same power so they replaced it with this one and it blew a seal within 48 hours. Just like my original LE once it has been repaired it doesn’t have the same power as when new. In this test I pierced the C02 when on safety so the first shot had full power. The Salt S2 has never been repaired and if the Byrna LE was new the results most likely be in the Byrna’s favor (I think). No loss of C02 between shots and the pause actually raises the fps. I do like the Byrna system much better for the exact reasons you stated, the salt makes a good truck gun but too large to carry. Stay safe!!
Thank U for your Very informative video!! Is the lack in FPS from lower c02 pressure as shots are fired? Or the Less spring pressure in the mag as shots are fired? Thks again!
Wish I'd seen this video before I bought my LE, it does have problems. I don't think I could really be safe with the Byrna LE. I got the s1. I should've known Salt would come out with a better one.
I won’t address the power of the Byrna, but long story short, I have had reliability problems with the LE, and the SD. It’s been frustrating sending these models back for repairs. Byrna’s customer service has been good, I will say that. But my confidence is shaky right now. Hopefully this latest repair will hold. The bad guy could be carrying a firearm, so consistency is crucial. Crucial.
Ok heres my question does the salt supply s2 have the feature where it doesnt drain the co2 tank til after you fire cause thats what makes the byrna ideal for self defense cause i won't have to worry about performance or the tank being dead
With the S2 the air cartridge stays sealed until you strike the bottom of the handle which punctures the cartridge in case of an emergency. The Byrna has a better system with the pierce and shoot technology!
Thank you for your videos very informative I almost bought a byner le after watching this video on some of your others I felt that the burner is very overpriced I ordered the S2 salt gun 2 of them I didn't just order them because they were almost half the price but I felt that the S2 gun is better built more powerful after the first shot than the other gun and being retired mechanic but not a gun expert after looking at your other video where you took apart your byner that failed I could see that gun having failure problems in the future due to its design and hopefully the S2 will be more dependable thanks again for your time
Proofs in the puddin’ as they say. Sorry i didn’t include your channel in my latest video regarding the Salt S2 but i had already completed the filming. Great comparison if you want to call it that. Salt just walked all over the Byrna and then some using underbore sized projectiles even.
It's about what I figured, with the higher muzzle velocity of the Salt it runs out of gas after 10 rounds. My Burna LE can shoot 20 fps slower but can shoot 17 rounds before it gasses out. That is three mags. Take your pick. Plus the Salt is huge, even the Burna LE is a large gun.
Ive contacted byrna letting them know my LE gets consistent 10-12 joules average. I feel ripped off. My LE performs like what they advertise for an SD.
@@airgunnerreviews7888 the problem is the majority of byrna buyers don't chronograph their LE and have no idea its under performing what they advertise.
This is why I'm glad I stuck with my Hi Viz instead of upgrading to the LE. Of course Air Gunner Review did teach me a few things about maintenance on my Byrna last Spring so it's stayed pretty consistent in the FPS when I've been using it... Over 1000+ rounds and counting.
I learned a long time ago that when comparing data, always graph the results. Putting your data into an excel spreadsheet and showing both graphs together would be advised.
Load 5 rounds in the clip and insert into launcher than remove the clip and you will notice the clip will only have 4 projectiles than add another round in clip. The first round is loaded into the breach!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 cool, thank you! I always wondered how that works given these don’t have slides. About to pop the seal on my first Air Gun (salt supply s2) thanks to your videos. I have my CCW & will be carrying it along side my Glock 26
The Byrna is a good looking pistol, and I so really wanted it. However, performance cries King. So, I've made up my mind. Just placed an order for the S2.
S2 is nearly spent after 12 rounds, but Byrna looks like it'll keep on shooting. Which one would the wife choose? User priorities will determine the best launcher.
I have the hds 68 and hdr 50 that I keep in my vehicle for self protection and I feel comfortable and confident using those platforms. Byrna, unless you have over 20k followers won’t give a darn about what you have to say. It’s really disappointing and disrespectful to the average consumer. This new S2 seems like an economic and reliable platform for one to defend themselves.
Umarex makes very nice launchers at an affordable price and the S2 offers decent power out of the the box and has proven to be reliable as well! Byrna really needs to step up their game on power and reliability! Thanks for dropping by!
well the problem not to sound like i’m on there side but the le is not ment to be shot that often as in i was told it best to have one u shoot and one u don’t
Byrna’s slogan is “train early train often”. My first LE lasted 11 months and this is the second LE lasted 2 days and failed on the 4th C02. At $480.00 they should last a little longer and you shouldn’t feel like if you use it you’re going to break it.
How loud is Byrna vs S2? I saw you had videos comparing decibel levels for air guns, would be interesting to have a comparison for these less lethal launchers as well. Thanks!
Highly considering this one after my LE had to get repaired. Only question I have is if it would fit in the same safe box I have. Do you know if it would fit in a box with these dimensions: 9.25” x 7.15” x 1.75”
Long story! The LE I took apart blew the 0-ring and was sent back and Byrna repaired it but the power was significantly less so I sent it back again and they replaced it with a new LE. I was very happy with the power of the replacement but after a few magazines it also blew the 0-ring and went back for repair and this is what I’m stuck with, Byrna told me this is as good as it gets.
@@airgunnerreviews7888 three sides to every story though. Your side. My side and the truth. I’ve found other UA-camrs saying that their byrna doesn’t work properly after firing balls heavier than what byrna has designed for their launcher causing some sort of internal damage. Could this also be the case for yours?
DK Spencer commonly tested using heavier projectiles however my first LE I tried only once and didn’t lead to more power so never tried again and that was at least 6 months prior to it breaking. The second failed LE I NEVER used anything other than Byrna C02 and kinetic rounds. I used no trickery in making this or any video. I own 2 SD models and have never had an issue with either and are very consistent in power.
I bought the Umer X for $100 it look just like that gun you’re showing as the salt too and it leaked like a sieve every cartridge I put in leaked you said not to use Crossman why do they make these guns so crappy that they leak so. I just bought a byrna LE I’m not gonna take it apart I’m not gonna shoot different balls out of it I’m gonna use byrna 12 g CO2‘s with the oilers. Hopefully they’ll be no problems or I’ll send that back to and that’ll be the end of my pepper gun experience 🤷🏻♂️
I wish you the best of luck with your new purchase! I would highly recommend getting yourself a chronograph if you don’t already have one! The SD model is always consistent from marker to marker but the LE power is all over the place.
Where is your S2 made? The SaltSupply website says "Made in the USA" but the S2 they send me clearly says on the gun "Made in Taiwan". I tried to contact them about this but no reply. I think they need to clear that up.
My S2 also says made in Taiwan and if you go onto their website and expand the picture of just the black S2 you will notice the launcher also states “made in Taiwan”. Certainly doesn’t look like they’re making them here!
The S2 is too big to conceal carry in my opinion but excellent for vehicle or a secondary home defense weapon. The LE is a better choice for carrying. Hope that explanation makes sense, thanks for dropping by!
The salt S2 has more consistent power and is built like a tank for 1/2 the price of the LE. I have also had two LE’s fail! I have shot about 800 rounds through the S2 with no issues. The first 2 or 3 shots with the LE will have more power than the S2 but the salt has more consistent power and averages higher fps when shooting the entire mag. If an intruder takes you by surprise the Byrna will pierce and shoot at the same time but the S2 you have to have time to pierce the C02 in order to fire and that could be a problem. Unfortunately there is no easy answer!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 Hmmm. That is a big concern of mine, in terms of self defense every second matters and having to charge/pierce the C02 seems risky. I guess if you charge it before going out or something it would slowly leak and compromise the FPS? Decisions decisions. No easy answer as you said. Great content thanks for replying!
What are the physical dimensions of the S2? I am considering SD for concealability and am wondering how the S2 compares in size as well as performance. Seems from a lot of comments that Byrna may have some quality issues.
Hello! The S2 is 8-3/4” long and the Byrna SD is 7-1/4” long. In my view I do not think the S2 is a practical conceal carry option, I leave mine in the vehicle. The SD offers less power but is much more concealable and the drop down clip and pierce and shoot functions are nice features, I own two SD models and have been very reliable. The Byrna LE has not been as reliable as it has been replaced after two repairs and this “new LE” has been repaired after two days of ownership. The SD lacks power especially with a person wearing mildly heavy clothing but for a serious threat a shot to the face will have devastating effects.
@@airgunnerreviews7888 Thankyou for you response. I'm not a law enforcement officer but from what I seen/read encounters by private citizens with aggressors are within 20 to 30 feet which may allow a significant "Ouch" by an SD. Of course a quick follow up with a chem. ball would be administered so I wouldn't be clouded in. Thank you again for reporting the reliability of the SD. Reliability in close encounters of the violent kind is most important.
I tested the original Gavle and was super accurate and powerful! Unfortunately it had multiple failures and gave it back, I understand there have been several improvements so I may revisit the newer version. I’m still not a fan of having to use both hands to engage.
In my opinion it is the Salt Supply. With the Byrna when you squeeze the trigger the barrel moves backwards towards the handle to cover the projectile so it is spongy to say the least, it’s still smooth but not crisp like the Salt!
My Byrna got stolen out of my rental, and was about to replace it with another Byrna, but after this video, SCREW BRYNA! I’m about to buy an S2, based on your great video, Sir! Was wondering if the S2 can sit with the Co2 cartridge in it, without piercing it, so that is ready when ya need it to be?!?
I totally agree the Byrna is a better choice for those reasons you politely point out! Hopefully you won’t have to deal with the problems I have had with mine. Thanks for your input!
A sample size of 10 is way too small for any statistical comparison. You can't take this limited and uncontrolled test as proof of anything. The Salt may be very consistent for the first 10 shots and then drop off even worse than the Byrna did after one. Stats aren't really that hard to understand.
No doubt the Gavle has superior power! My only issue with it is it takes both hands to twist the C02 and in a crunch situation you may not have time or both hands!
Just a guess here but listen, neither gun is designed to store with punctured co2, right? But still techncally being contained pressure systems, means that each has a specific amount of EXTRA co2 escapping during each shot. Escaping to...? Whereever it can go depending on the shape of the plastic just past the metal valve. Meaning if the plastic isnt vented or spacious enough to disperse the air enough.. that co2 bounces back and cools down the metal valve even more than just firing it already had, and droppin the cylinder temperature even lower with each shot. So you have a co2 cylinder, pressurized within a cold metal valve, surrouned by thick cold plastic. Yaa its not warming up anyime soon.. So presuming you're aware that co2 pressure increases dramatically with heat...well, thats why the byrna started off strong and got weaker with each shot. The salt might just be shapped better to keep cylinder stable temp. Try breaking the rules just slightly and letting byrna sit and warm back up for like a half hour after firing each shot. Id wager itd be a lot more consistent.
I have to say I would have went with the crono readings with the one furthest away because that would have been more realistic if you were actually using it.
I just put up a video today on the longevity of Byrna. Fortunately I did not get a dud in my LE performs great but by far the salt S2 is a more superior weapon. Just like I don't carry the LE on my person, I would not carry the S2 either. Although I do own the S2 and I do keep it in the house as a less-lethal option.
I just finished watching your video and it is always nice to hear a different perspective on Byrna! I still love my SD and has been a solid performer and is the smallest LL on the market. My first LE lasted 10 months before failure and after repair the power was very inconsistent and sent a video to Byrna, it was sent back and replaced after they tested it for themselves. The second LE failed within 2 days of ownership! I am hoping they will redesign the LE to be more reliable and take off the bulky boost off the front. Thanks for stopping by and appreciate your comment!
The Grimberg is great, but the whole twist to activate is kind of an issue, especially in a high stress situation. Hopefully the Solstice will fix this issue.
@@airgunnerreviews7888 I have one. The good thing about the twist is it is mechanically very simple, less chance of a failure. My first choice though if you are in a situation that you have time to twist it, as it hits really hard compared to the others!
Tell us how that is. The salt numbers are what the Byrna was "supposed" to be . Some people get lucky and get one that actually gives good numbers but even the good ones the numbers are never consistent. Watch the FPS plunge with each shot on the byrna where it is minimal on the S2. Many reports of Byrnas not firing, have not heard of one S2 failing. Tools required to change a cartridge or reload on a weapon is so antiquated . s2 is half the price of the byrna... Tell us how it's better
@@rpbauer no its a strike to pierce mechanism. you load the co2 and there is a knob on the bottom of the launcher. You hit it with your palm , thigh or any hard object. Same way as the Pepperball TRP works
Not at all. Grimsburg is 39 Jules. It will drop someone. The Byrna just stings. Yet both are effective with pepper rounds. Grimsburg has tear gas/pepperspray mixture projectiles.
My first LE was much better but blew a seal and after repair there was a major loss of power so Byrna sent me a knew LE which lasted 2 days and blew the same seal and again after repair I am getting the same crappy results! I sent my video to Byrna and they say there is nothing wrong with the launcher as tests will vary.
@@airgunnerreviews7888 I’m sorry about that mines been good. Listen salt s2 is great too I love the white I know it’s a crazy color but I saw a video on it with the black line on the barrel nice.
Well, I'm very conflicted, I don't like the looks of the S2, as it looks like a BB gun and to me that has reduces it effectiveness as a deterrent to would be attackers. I was ready to buy the Byrna LE, but It looks like according to your analysis that I would be better off buying the SD. This video is 5 months old, and I wonder if Byrna has done anything to improve the LE since then. I don't know what to do now. I have watched a dozen videos, including your video "5 reasons to buy a Byrna LE" and I'm thoroughly stuck in the mud now.
I totally understand where you’re coming from! The S2 is too large to carry in my opinion and I keep it as a back up in my vehicle. Out of the box the LE is more powerful but unfortunately I have had two of them blow the seal and after repair the velocity is not the same as before the repair. Typically I lose 100 fps between the first and second shot, this was not the case on either LE before repair! I also own 2 SD models and never had an issue with either! Also have purchased several 8 gram air cartridges off of Amazon and have had no issues using them in the SD. Byrna offers a 12 month warranty and very good customer service just make sure you keep your order number and register the launcher.I really like the compact size, lightness and reliability of the SD and find myself carrying it more because it is the easiest to conceal, more power would be nice but I do have trust issues with my LE. Good luck!!!
I have a Byrna SD and the Byrna TCR,... I like the way the Salt Supply S2 feels in the hand and the position of the C02/magazine. Although i do not own a chronograph... other peoples videos have shown me enough. Im glad I waited and did not purchase an overpriced, underperforming LE.
What does being disabled have to do with Byrna? I'm disabled and I use a Byrna without any issues and I haven't had any problems with them as a company. Why do you think they don't like disabled people?
I just ordered and received my Mace 2 Pepper Launcher made by Salt Supply. This product offering is amazing! Mine is yellow in color which I like. I had looked at Byrna and the LE model but was not convinced enough t to purchase it. Glad I waited for the S2 to come out . About $200 cheaper than the Byrna LE and much more powerful. The effective range of the S2 was a major factor in my decision to purchase the Byrna LE. Byrna products seem overpriced and overrated in my opinion.
Keep in mind anything coming out of any barrel right after the point of contact of the barrel is going to be faster than 2 ft away are we smarter than a 5th grader yet😂
Salt sucks because of the power set up, from concealed carry the salt is snag prone and the reload system sucks love the power but just like the Grim they have the same bad nub in the butt that's my friend snag problem! I've used my Byrna 2 ( twice) against individual male aggressors, 6-7 ft range placed my shots collar bone head areas worked fantastic able to get to my car and away ! All of you dudes test unrealistically not as in real situations
That is awesome you were able to successfully defend yourself with the Byrna! This test was really only about power and consistency, the very next video I put up was about conceal carrying the S2 and it was just to long and heavy for my liking but would be a good travel companion for a road rage incident. I’m not a big fan of the load system either!
How would you suggest they test it realistically? I'd really like to know as last I checked you can't just walk up to someone and shoot them with a Less Lethal launcher to see if it's effective as that's still illegal in all 50 states. And I'm pretty sure no one is crazy enough to let a LTL content creator shoot them in the face for "research purposes" so they can film it. So how would you suggest they test it in a real world situation?
The Byrna looks better and has a good piercing system, but that’s about all! Power is really important, so is constantly! Byrna lacks BOTH after the first couple shots!
These comments are depressing. I bought an LE but I’m in a city that they don’t ship to so shipping it in for repairs would be complicated. I just want to have it while walking at night but hope not to need it anyway.
What about the internal features? The chamber that fills with compressed air that fires the shot, are they the same size for your Apple to Apple comparison? It sounds like your not doing your homework before slamming a product. I didn’t hear anything about this! There a lot of things your not covering for your Apple to Apple comparison! You never say anything even of the different barrel lengths too!
Both launchers are 68 caliber and use 12 gram C02 and are in the 16 joules family. You will NEVER find two launchers with the same barrel size and internals. These types of comparisons are all over UA-cam, Ryobi vs Dewalt, Apple vs Android, Samsung vs Sony, Ford vs Chevy. Do any of these have the same features? Of course not!
I placed an order for the LE 4 days ago, luckily it didn't ship out yet so I was able to cancel and order a Salt Supply s2 instead! :)
Same here. I ordered a Burna...but then saw videos of the Burna firing capsules at a person wearing a light to medium winter jacket. The capsules failed to burst, and the capsules caused no deterrent pain for the target, due to the jacket protecting the wearer.

I second that thought regarding smaller design with power! It seams like the launchers keep getting larger, I like my SD for the same reasons!
Yep you nailed it. Smaller with that amount of power and it's gold.
Hoe does the S2 effect an intruder compared to the Byrnas chemical?
was the byrna leaking air? worn seal? Years ago i played paintball and when my gun started to loose fps, it was either, running out air or there was leak....
Feels like I’ve been screwed buying a good holster for the LE got $$ tied up in them. sad …. but thx for the heads up great videos . 👍🏻👊🏼
I would say the S2 is probably the most consistent fps launcher I have tested and has good out of the box power! Byrna has to wake up!
Byrna is going down as a company. Better and cheaper options out there.
They may if they don’t start making a more powerful and consistent marker, the competition is closing in on the market!
Do you know how a company loses market share? Slowly at first, then all at once! Your video, convinced me to go Salt S2.
It’s a physically larger launcher. That certainly plays a part in the power differential. And they have taken the appropriate time to tune it optimally. The results speak for themselves. Great job as always.
How’s the accuracy of the Salt S2?
A physically larger launcher isn't going to account for power in these guns. The LE is losing gas somewhere, it has nothing to do with it being smaller.
I'm so glad they don't sell them here in the UK. HDR 68 all the way for me.
Yeah I have the 50 version and the HDB.
Agree 100 percent Mark!
Right on, I have the HDR 68 and much more consistent and powerful
I really appreciate your videos no hype no nonsense just straight forward facts
Thank you!!!
Yeah, home defense and carrying around are 2 different things. HDR too big to carry, so it is better suited for a HD launcher.
What would be a good alternative luncher other than the LE??
@@airgunnerreviews7888what about the S1? Been trying to find numbers on it but it has the trigger quick pierce and mag in the traditional location
@@AugustDavinDeepsona tweaked first strike compact
Cheers
I totally agree thanks for your input!
Great review! Was considering a Byrna, but am gonna look at the Salt
Byrna claims they test each marker to make sure it is working properly, someone was sleeping on the job!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 No doubt!
I think you will like the S2 it is built like a tank and the Grimburg V2 are a perfect match, you should get around 20 joules. Good luck!
How is it a waste of money if it works when you need it?
The EP shoots about what the le is doing, but I've seen some les work good too, I think the EP is best, it does like 3 mags before it's out, but around 10-12 joules before gas gets low!
I agree the EP and also the SD are very reliable and I get a lot of favorable comments about them! The LE not so much…
Well done...
Thanks. I have been trying to decide between the two. I am going with the S2
Good choice!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 You didn't explain why the LE had to be repaired. Is there a basic problem with them?
My Byrna SD has been a solid performer and love the compact size and you are correct the pierce and shoot is priceless!
Wow, people are telling you to do like a graph chart, or do all these other tests and theories and scenarios. Jesus Christ it was just a simple straightforward quick demonstration. Thank you very much for taking the time to do that!
It’s nice to see a positive comment thank you!!!
Please don't use the Lord's name in vein....thank you
I'm curious how much less powerful the "repaired" byrna LE is compared to a new one.
Thks again!
lower c02 pressure!
Crucial.
You are so right, consistency is crucial! Thanks for dropping by!
Thank you for your videos very informative I almost bought a byner le after watching this video on some of your others I felt that the burner is very overpriced I ordered the S2 salt gun 2 of them I didn't just order them because they were almost half the price but I felt that the S2 gun is better built more powerful after the first shot than the other gun and being retired mechanic but not a gun expert after looking at your other video where you took apart your byner that failed I could see that gun having failure problems in the future due to its design and hopefully the S2 will be more dependable thanks again for your time
The Salt S2 is a solid tank and you can use all brands of C02 and projectiles. Thanks for dropping by and good luck!
Does the salt also fire kinetic rounds?
It sure does!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 Thank you ! I couldn't get an answer from the robot on the Salt website 👍
@@Raykenn1It has the power to fire the heavier rounds where Byrna can't fire them without losing a lot of power.

No point in the second chronograph. The one by the muzzle will always read higher.
Proofs in the puddin’ as they say.
Sorry i didn’t include your channel in my latest video regarding the Salt S2 but i had already completed the filming.
Great comparison if you want to call it that. Salt just walked all over the Byrna and then some using underbore sized projectiles even.
No problem I just uploaded late last night! I just watched your segment and that is so interesting!!!
I apologize I just showed mine it a 68 also
I love it when people leave negative comments and then have to choke on their own ignorance 😂🤣😂
I totally agree with you! The Byrna also reloads much easier and the pierce and shoot is priceless. Thanks for dropping by!
Ive contacted byrna letting them know my LE gets consistent 10-12 joules average. I feel ripped off. My LE performs like what they advertise for an SD.
If Byrna doesn’t start listening to their customers instead of making excuses they will be faced with layoffs for sure!
Have a second hand HDR.50 and with silicone spray still no leaks and have something like Kratos devastator rounds 6 mm steel ball
Round that out with some holster opinions?
I learned a long time ago that when comparing data, always graph the results. Putting your data into an excel spreadsheet and showing both graphs together would be advised.
Great suggestion thank you!!!
How do you chamber a round for the 5 +1??
Load 5 rounds in the clip and insert into launcher than remove the clip and you will notice the clip will only have 4 projectiles than add another round in clip. The first round is loaded into the breach!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 cool, thank you! I always wondered how that works given these don’t have slides. About to pop the seal on my first Air Gun (salt supply s2) thanks to your videos. I have my CCW & will be carrying it along side my Glock 26
The Salt looks so big and bulky, and what is the knob on the bottom of handle?
It is big and bulky! The knob on the bottom of handle is to puncture the C02 cartridge.
The Byrna is a good looking pistol, and I so really wanted it. However, performance cries King. So, I've made up my mind. Just placed an order for the S2.
The S2 is a solid performer!
S2 is nearly spent after 12 rounds, but Byrna looks like it'll keep on shooting. Which one would the wife choose? User priorities will determine the best launcher.
In all honesty wife won't reload in time....first cartridge counts......well unless you're looking for a shoot out then yeah
I just ordered the $300 s2 starter kit!
Awesome!!!
is grimberb gavale better? can you do a video?
I would if I had one! I’m still not sold on the twisting the C02 to activate it doesn’t seem practical in an emergency
How loud is Byrna vs S2?
I saw you had videos comparing decibel levels for air guns, would be interesting to have a comparison for these less lethal launchers as well. Thanks!
Nice suggestion I will have to do a comparison!
Highly considering this one after my LE had to get repaired. Only question I have is if it would fit in the same safe box I have. Do you know if it would fit in a box with these dimensions: 9.25” x 7.15” x 1.75”
Yes it will fit! The S2 measures 8-7/8” L x 6-7/8” x 1-3/8”H
Glad to hear that or should I say sorry to hear that. I actually thought about buying an LE. Guess I'll hold off for now..
Do you think that the power reduction from your byrna could be related to when you took your byrna apart?
Why can't we use Crossman
If they tell you to only use their projectiles and Co2, then thats what I will do.
Typically when this happens it means the parts were manufactured in another country, and the gun is assembled in the USA. (From what I've been told)
Is S2 same length as HDP 50?
Very close but thicker do to being 68 caliber and heavier
@@airgunnerreviews7888 so this one is much heavier ? Damn
Heavier and bulkier!
Sooooo cancel my Byrna LE and get an S2?
The S2 is too big to conceal carry in my opinion but excellent for vehicle or a secondary home defense weapon. The LE is a better choice for carrying. Hope that explanation makes sense, thanks for dropping by!
@@airgunnerreviews7888 in terms of stopping power/effectiveness its pretty much the same thing then? Since concealment isn’t a concern yea.
I have an LE it's awesome.
I’m hoping you will have great success with it!
Phenomenal demo, I hope Salt S2 is legal in California so I can purchase one.
I’m pretty sure you can purchase right off of the Salt website and have it shipped to California with no chemicals of course! Thanks for watching!!!
Have you tested the Grimburg Gavel yet... About $500
I tested the original Gavle and was super accurate and powerful! Unfortunately it had multiple failures and gave it back, I understand there have been several improvements so I may revisit the newer version. I’m still not a fan of having to use both hands to engage.
Which one has the best trigger pull over all?
In my opinion it is the Salt Supply. With the Byrna when you squeeze the trigger the barrel moves backwards towards the handle to cover the projectile so it is spongy to say the least, it’s still smooth but not crisp like the Salt!
I’ve noticed the byrna fades fast after first shot Watched a lot of videos on them
Consistency has been a big disappointment with Byrna LE! Thanks for watching!!!
Yes the C02 can be stored indefinitely in the S2 without piercing and and I keep mine in my vehicle at all times! Thanks for watching!!!
I'll keep my byrna. Never had a problem and I don't need two hands to operate it. The byrna magazine style is also much better and faster to operate.
I totally agree the Byrna is a better choice for those reasons you politely point out! Hopefully you won’t have to deal with the problems I have had with mine. Thanks for your input!
Byrna is more focused on clout and that bald guy meeting gun bunnies at shot show. HDR .68 and S2 is the way to go.
I've had a HD since they came out and still working fine. Keep your salt 😀😀
The HD and SD models are solid performers and my SD has been very reliable! Unfortunately the LE has been a complete headache for me!
A sample size of 10 is way too small for any statistical comparison. You can't take this limited and uncontrolled test as proof of anything. The Salt may be very consistent for the first 10 shots and then drop off even worse than the Byrna did after one. Stats aren't really that hard to understand.
Mine leaks the co2 out
Which one?
What about the gavel ? This is supposed to be pushing 700 ft per second.
No doubt the Gavle has superior power! My only issue with it is it takes both hands to twist the C02 and in a crunch situation you may not have time or both hands!
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
True points here but an interesting note is the Byrna SD doesn’t have the same issues with a large drop off like the LE has!
I have to say I would have went with the crono readings with the one furthest away because that would have been more realistic if you were actually using it.
In hindsight you are right it would have been more realistic than a reading before the projectile has left the barrel! Thanks for your input!
Byrna LE has better capacity and reloads plus the cartridge gets round and piecing on first shot- no wasted air- Ill stick with Byrna LE
Every video I have seen of the Byrna it breaks and stops firing. I am surprised the Byrna on this video made it through the testing without breaking.
If anyone wants to sell their byrna let me know!
I’m sold very good video
Get yourself a Grimburg and save yourself a headache !!!
If only it didn’t take both hands to activate!
The Grimberg is great, but the whole twist to activate is kind of an issue, especially in a high stress situation. Hopefully the Solstice will fix this issue.
@@airgunnerreviews7888 I have one. The good thing about the twist is it is mechanically very simple, less chance of a failure. My first choice though
if you are in a situation that you have time to twist it, as it hits really hard compared to the others!
@@MultiSkyman1 the loading system is a deal breaker. i need extra mags....
@@glenng.6041 Agreed. With only a 5-round capacity, the loading system makes the Grimburg an unreliable self-defense weapon.
Hi,how many joules is the salt❓Thanks 🥰
Did you not watch this video? He spent the entire video showing the joules of the salt supply and the byrna. Why would you ask that foolish question?
The Byrna is superior in every way minus the fps. You’re not supposed to stand there in a gun fight, the idea is to shoot and escape.
@@tyronetrump1612 Does Salt puncture C02 with trigger pull, like Byrna?
@@rpbauer no its a strike to pierce mechanism. you load the co2 and there is a knob on the bottom of the launcher. You hit it with your palm , thigh or any hard object. Same way as the Pepperball TRP works
Byrna to expensive, rather HDR, 68 or upgraded,50 HDR
Not at all. Grimsburg is 39 Jules. It will drop someone. The Byrna just stings. Yet both are effective with pepper rounds. Grimsburg has tear gas/pepperspray mixture projectiles.
I still prefer the size of the SD though - and 10 joules is still a good punch...
I agree the SD is the perfect size!
My byrna never dropped that far. Never. Dude you got a lemon for an le
The white S2 looks sharp!
@@airgunnerreviews7888would white be smart vs yellow for someone making it clear that it's all self defense?
I appreciate you, brother! Just saved me 250 bucks!
Thanks for watching!
I own the SD and TCR also and have no complaints! The S2 is a power house compared. Thanks for dropping by!
I've been posting this for over a year, I don't do Byrna because they don't like disabled people
What does being disabled have to do with Byrna?
That Byrna strikes me as an overpriced nerf gun, but you're paying for a lot of advertising on TV right now.
Keep in mind anything coming out of any barrel right after the point of contact of the barrel is going to be faster than 2 ft away are we smarter than a 5th grader yet😂
That sux since I literally just received my Byrna LE.
The good news is as long as your LE doesn’t need repairs it will have plenty of power! Hopefully you will have better luck with yours!!!
That’s good to know. I just bought an LE. Reading the other comments has me bummed out.
The Byrna is very consistent (ly low) after the 1st shot. ;-[
Exactly!
The Bryna is much easier to carry. Unfortunately it has power issues.
That pretty much sums it up!
Hopefully you will have better luck with your Byrna LE!
I had ordered an LE but saw your videos and just canceled it. Trigger problems no thank you.
I guess I’m going to have to get shot with both and measure my scream volume. 🤔
😂😂😂
Hah, I ordered the byrna le from the official website and it took over 2 months to get to me.
The same thing happened to me and Byrna told me it was a parts supply issue!
I gotta give it to you for this well preformed and accurate video. No movie magic here Byrna! 👀
Thank you!
