I’m 27 years old, and I’ve been raw vegan for 6 1/2 years and have been at a healthy and consistent weight for six months now. My mom says that I am at a healthy weight and that I look good. I have muscle tone and it’s because I exercise every day or almost every day, and I eat three meals plus a small fruit snack in between lunch and dinner and have a small dessert after dinner. I don’t count calories because that is too much work for me. I eat plenty of protein every day as well and healthy fats for dinner and that keeps me full for longer so that I’m not overeating late at night. I’ve followed a lot of your advice and it has been helping me significantly.

@@Isabelle.Bfor breakfast, I soak a quarter cup of steel-cut oats overnight with a quarter cup of raisins in a bowl and cover the bowl. Then, in the morning, I remove the water from the oats and raisins, I add a tablespoon of raw cacao, and I add 1 tablespoon of raw macadamia nuts, 1 tablespoon of raw cashews, and 1 tablespoon of raw hazelnuts, or any combination of the three, for a total of 3 tablespoons of nuts. Then, for breakfast, I eat the bowl of steel-cut oats, raisins, nuts & cacao. In the morning, I also take my vitamin and mineral supplements and vitamin D & B12. For lunch, I make a fruit smoothie with any fruit of your choice, and I add chocolate or vanilla organic raw vegan protein powder (garden of life), 1 tablespoon of cacao, and zinc citrate powder (bulk supplements). For snack I usually have a few pieces of fruit, for example a small papaya or three small apples. Then for dinner, I have whatever combination of nuts/seeds/seaweed/vegetables I want… For instance, yesterday I had riced cauliflower with raw peanuts, sprouted lentils, and coconut aminos/tahini/lemon/ginger dressing, with parsley and pickled onions (onions were in a glass container soaked in raw apple cider vinegar, salt, water). Sometimes for dinner I will have a salad 🥗 with salad greens, other times I will have a kelp noodle dish or a zucchini noodle dish. I’ve even made raw vegan pizza and raw vegan lettuce wraps. Feel free to be creative with your dinners and look up recipes. For dessert after dinner, I usually have some chia pudding with frozen blueberries, raw agave, a sprinkle of unsweetened shredded coconut, and cinnamon. Chia pudding is made by mixing 3 Tbsp. chia seeds per 1 cup of water, with a few drops of raw agave and a drop of non-alcoholic vanilla extract. You probably don’t need to eat as much as I do. I’m male and I’m 5’11” and I’m 27 years old so I probably require more calories per day than you do. Feel free to adapt things to what you prefer. In general, I would say, have fruit for breakfast/lunch, then vegetables/nuts/seeds/seaweeds/sauce/dressing for dinner. For dressings I usually use any combination of raw tahini, raw almond butter, raw apple cider vinegar, lemon, raw agave, spices, salt, herbs, or a sauce made in the food processor with any combination of vegetables/nuts/seeds/fruits you would like. For sauces the fruits I prefer are tomato, avocado, lemon/lime, and/or orange. I prefer not to add olive or coconut oil to my sauces since nuts/seeds/avocados already have oils in them. But that’s just me. Do whatever works for you, and adapt things to your preferences! I also exercise every day and am a male who is 5’11” 27 years old 170 lbs with muscle tone. For exercise I swim, do yoga, weight lift, practice martial arts, or walk. Do whatever works for you and adapt things to your needs. Remember to keep variety in your diet, as that keeps things from getting boring, and remember to listen to your body.

You were probably putting your body in starving survival mode, causing your body to focus on storing fats. Skip eating starches and focus on eating fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, sprouts, seaweeds, and more. Make sure you are getting enough vitamins and minerals including vitamin D and B12, and supplement if necessary. Eating fruit for breakfast, fruit for lunch, and vegetables, nuts & seeds for dinner will work wonders and get your metabolism going. Also, being active during the day and at night, such as walking, swimming, weightlifting, practicing yoga, or doing outdoor exercises will spike your metabolism. Avoid late night time snacking and make sure that your dinner makes you full. I usually have dessert after dinner and it works well for me, because then I don’t do late night snacking. Another significant factor is stress. Once you start lowering your stress levels with guided meditations, mindful eating, meditating, meditative movement, yoga, and listening to meditation music, that will lower your cortisol levels and help increase your metabolism.

Hi- I’m responding to your comment because I have also pondered her condition. I find her diagnosis so strange. Have you read THE BODY KEEPS THE SCORE? I’m a big proponent of somatic therapies and understanding how the body holds onto trauma. I am a trained massage therapist. I can’t help but wonder what kind of stress she must have been under. What happened to her? To have your body become so stiff is such a cruel thing to happen to such a gifted singer. I would also love to understand more about her case.

Portion control ultimately made the difference for me and I dropped 40 lbs from my heaviest. now I’m feeling the most fit and active in my life at 13% body fat. I've been doing 20:4 fasting for years, during 1 month period I've been doing 36:12, eat 90 percent raw vegan, no bread or junk food or sugars. I don't lose weight no matter what. I don't gain weight either, but not losing. I'm growing most of my veggies myself, do not eat lots of fruits, just may be 1-2 per day, training 3 times a week, did a runstreak for 213 days, walking with my dog. Yeah, doing most of the things right, but just do not lose those last kilos of weight . I've been fully raw for 2 years and lost a lot of weight, then started to eat little cooked food and gained some kilos. Then I got back to raw again, but the weight doesn't move anymore. And that is depressing no matter how much I fast. Luckily my comfort food is cooked vegetable stews and soups, at least I'm not craving sweets 😂

Other factors are stress, eating 3 hours before bed, not going to sleep early enough, not getting enough sun, chlorine vapor from hot showers and baths slows down thyroid, even "healthy" crackers etc are still carbs. Even though you are moving your body, maybe it's not enough to burn the calories.

@@MarkusRothkranz thank you, I didn´t even expect you to answer me, thank you :-) I am pretty stressed right now that is true and I guess I could always move more, since I am sitting behind my computer a lot. We live in Canaries so plenty of sun every day and I never use sun protection, I even sunbath toppless to avoid white spots :-D I sleep 8 hours, but could never fall asleep before 11-12 pm, I tried, I promise, to get up early and sleep early, tried for months but only got in a zombie state. I feel best when I can sleep 11pm to 7 am :-D eating dinner at 7pm and do not eat again before 12 pm the after. What bothers me is that it was so easy to lose weight 4 years ago and so hard now, I am 49 and I want to age with grace. So thanks again, I will try harder and also work on getting the stress factors out of my life, I know which they are. Luckliy I have a wonderfull and supporting husband who loves me and we are very happy no matter what in our little home. BTW - no menopausal problems here, thanks to your advices, no one of my friends believes me that I have no problems at all, that is always something, so I should not complain :-D Love you!

They got better because they stopped eating pizza, bagels. pancakes, cereal, bread, pasta, cookies, cakes, sugar, soft drinks, ice cream and waffles. Replace modern processed food with ANYTHING found in nature and you get similar results. You can do just greens, or just fruit or just nuts, seeds, greens and fruit etc and get similar results short term. Long term may yield different results because our digestive system and gut probiotics require fiber, and animal products contain zero fiber. Cows also have hormones that make them grow to be 2000 lbs and when human consume dairy or beef, they get those hormones which yes can make muscles grow, but also cancer etc. Plants are safer than animal products in the long run.

I did it for two years. I felt great, but I couldn’t lose weight.

No it's not. The same amount of calories are eaten per day, just in a shorter eating window.

@MarkusRothkranz Okay, So how much do you eat within that eating window?? I'm trying to do one meal a day intermittent fasting because I feel good when I do it however I'm not sure if I'm getting all the nutrients I need for the entire day.

@@AndromedanPrinceYou would get the same results doing 2mad .....basically 2 meals a day but over a 6to 8 hour window . I usually stop eating at 6pm. With 2 meals you can get all your nutrients in but some do manage great on 1 meal a day .

I love when you talk about hormones. I would love to learn more about the endocrine system from you in the future.
I’ve been a raw foodist for ten years and have always experimented with fat levels, testing to see which ideologies make sense. I agree with you and find it necessary to consume a decent amount of fats. I do this with nuts and seeds. Olive oil is reserved for flavor in some of my recipes.
I also agree with you regarding intermittent fasting. I have practiced this for the last 7 years or so and I believe it completely reset my craving center and it also trained my body to not over eat.
Thanks for all your hard work. You make a difference in our lives.

Has he had Botox? His lips seem a bit taut to me. Anyone else notice this as well?
