Dr. Berg discusses the importance of vitamin D for hair health, explaining its role in gene regulation, immune function, and preventing scalp calcification. He recommends testing vitamin D levels and supplementing with at least 20,000 IU daily, along with magnesium and other nutrients.
As a fellow health UA-camr, I just wanted to commend you on this insightful video, Dr. Berg! The connection between vitamin D and autoimmune diseases, particularly in relation to hair loss, is often overlooked in discussions about hair health. It's fascinating how many people are unaware that hair follicles are living structures and that their health is influenced by various nutrients. Your emphasis on the importance of the right blood tests to identify deficiencies is crucial. Many individuals may not realize that conditions like alopecia can be linked to nutrient imbalances, and your video sheds light on this important aspect. Additionally, I appreciate your mention of magnesium's role in enzyme function related to hair health. It’s a reminder that a holistic approach to nutrition can significantly impact our overall well-being, including hair growth. For anyone watching, I encourage you to not only consider the tests mentioned but also to consult with a healthcare professional to interpret results accurately. Thank you for sharing this valuable information, and I look forward to more content that empowers viewers to take charge of their health!
Im 45 and i just started to see a receding hairline. I think its genetics but it may have to do with nutrition and stress levels. My father went through quimio for 20+ years but never experienced hairloss. He was always working in the fields under the sunlight and eat plenty of blackbeans, and pork meat and few vegetables during his whole life, me on the other hand eat a lot of processed foods, and lots of stress living in the us. I recently started to look into home remedies about preventing hair loss and I feel very confident that I will overcome this
Thank you for this. I have just been alerted by my Hairdresser that I have the first signs of Alopecia and have today contacted the doctors for a blood test. Same symptoms here. Mine turned out to be hyperthyroidism brought on by overuse of iodine supplement (Biote) which was 8333% of my RDA of potassium iodide… took me three years to return to balance.
Sudden weight loss always makes hair loss greater. It’s a shock to the system. It’s happened to me every time but once the weight loss became more regular then the hair loss slowed down drastically.
VERY helpful video! I’ve always assumed that hair shedding was normal but perhaps the amount I have shedded my entire life isn’t and just never realized it. You’re almost 60 with a healthy head of dark hair. You definitely know what you’re talking about by example. I know childhood classmates that started having receding hairlines in their late 20s and 30s. My dad has been trying to grow back hair in the center of his head. So far he has grown some back naturally. He hopes to grow back more. My mom is starting to reverse some hair loss naturally as well with hair vitamins. I will definitely share this video with them. 🙂
Nice video again. But I want to mention 2 things. Lab Results: • B12: 1667 • Magnesium: 2.3 • Vitamin D: 109.0 • Ferritin: 162 My B12 has always been high, even though I’ve never taken B12 supplements. I was anemic for many years, which I believe contributed to significant hair loss. After reaching menopause, the anemia resolved, and my hair loss stopped. Based on these results, I decided to stop taking vitamin D3. However, once I stopped, the hair loss issues returned. I suspect that stopping vitamin D3 might be the cause of the hair loss returning. I thought the body would maintain adequate levels for some time after stopping, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. What do you think, based on these lab results?

Depending on which magnesium supplement you are taking, you might not absorb most of it, glycinate has the highest absorption rate (around 80%), others are in the single digit percentage wise. Dr Berg has a few videos on magnesium you might want to check out. In this video he recommends at least 20'000 iu vit D daily... a rule of thumb is 100mcg K2 per 10'000 iu vit D. Autoimmune disease might also be helped with more vitamin D. Hope you will get better!

So basically you need vitamin D3 and magnesium. In France where I live the vitamin D3 comes in oil form in a glass dropper bottle. Being fat soluble it actually works, I couldn’t find the same type in the UK or the states. Be careful what supplements you take, some won’t actually work.

Interesting video and a lot of good points are brought up. There's no doubt a vitamin D3 deficiency could be the cause of many symptoms and disorders like hair loss...among many, many other causes (like shampoo with high levels of sulfates and parabens or fluoride in the water). When recommending or starting a magnesium supplement regiment, one should check into what type of or combination of magnesium you should take. There is something like 6 or 7 different types of magnesium and it's important to know which one does what and how with some types not being recommended at all.

I consider Dr. Berg's contribution to educating the masses on a whole range of topics over the years to be invaluable!

I will say magnesium glycinate.
It’s D3…..but watch the whole video!! Thanks, Dr. Berg!

Found out my vitamin d levels are at a 7 today which led me here. How much do you recommend taking of vitamin d3 and magnesium?
VERY helpful video! I’ve always assumed that hair shedding was normal but perhaps the amount I have shedded my entire life isn’t and just never realized it. You’re almost 60 with a healthy head of dark hair. You definitely know what you’re talking about by example. I know childhood classmates that started having receding hairlines in their late 20s and 30s. My dad has been trying to grow back hair in the center of his head. So far he has grown some back naturally. He hopes to grow back more. My mom is starting to reverse some hair loss naturally as well with hair vitamins. I will definitely share this video with them. 🙂
God bless you Doctor Eric
Nice video again. But I want to mention 2 things. As far as know we don't replace iron deficiency by taking Iron but LACTOFERRIN (Many studies show that there is a consistent relationship between iron levels and chronic diseases, etc.) 2nd. When taking vitamin D3 always have to mention the importance of vitamin A
This is really so so much helpfull, and I think you are one of the best who explain these things in details and accurately. Thank you so much for everything you are doing
Dr Berg Vitamin D is your favorite Vitamin. Am I right or am I right :)
Great video. Next discussion should include the absorption time of Vit -D from sun exposure. Are we washing away the oils needed for Vit-D absorption when we shower? I read somewhere that it takes 24-48 hours.
This does help a whole lot, actually. Vitamin D solves a lot of problems! Thank you!

I am 39 and I had a lot of hair loss just during the last 6 to 9 months. 8 month ago I did a blood test and I noticed that my ferritine (458) was too high
(Minimum: 30.0 | Maximum: 400.0), also my Iron saturation (50) was too high (Minimum: 20.0 | Maximum: 40.0) but at that time I did not know about the correlation of that to my hair loss. Last week I got my vitamin D tested and it was very low (8 ng/mL). now I can understand the correlation. Thank you Dr Berg!
What type you for do you eat that makes your ferritin and iron level high ?

One more mineral you need to keep an eye on is, copper, you need 1 to 2 mg a day, if you take zinc supplements, look for ones that have copper, they often come together, that is if your multivitamin doesn't already have a high 2mg amount.

Lab Results:
• B12: 1667
• Magnesium: 2.3
• Vitamin D: 109.0
• Ferritin: 162
My B12 has always been high, even though I’ve never taken B12 supplements.
Very informative and interesting as well ....thank you so much Sir

20,000 per day at a MINIMUM
Have you had your thyroid checked? It sounds like hypothyroidism could be a possible cause of your symptoms.
Yes

What incredible information! Thank you Dr Berg!
