Just want to say how much I appreciate your insight. I had Graves’ and hashimotos in 2008 which led to a thyroid storm then complete thyroidectomy. Dr. Ekberg, here it is 2024 and I feel worse than ever. Still have hashimotos symptoms, but worse than anything is the weight gain. I’m 49 and otherwise healthy. I’ve started following your advice and feel so much better. I was jogging and so hungry after. You’re the first person to address why- that I was burning sugar during the jog. So, I am back to walking. Cortisol tests are fine but my stomach looks like I eat 5 dozen donuts a day. I am so embarrassed. Thank you for being so kind to us. I am not glutinous. Thank you for all you do! Love to you and yours.

I have been 16-8 intermittent fasting for 5 days, I feel fantastic, I was scared stiff of feeling hungry, I did for he first two days I fasted, I just have water or green tea and the hunger went away. I am yet to see weight loss, but I am swimming in the sea every morning halfway through the fast so hopefully the demands the cold water and the exercise put on my muscles will promote fat burning, I am morbidly obese currently at 130kg or 286 pounds, so seeing results will take some time. I have actually quit my job while I am doing this because work gets in the way of my exercise and fasting regime starting work too early, the fear of being bored in the office and needing to compensate with food etc. In five days a missed the 16 hour deadline by one hour and on another day surpassed it by nearly 2 and a half hours because I was keeping busy. I am determined to keep this up and already seeing savings in food purchased.

I really wish fasting was understood in the mainstream. Fasting and eating real food (no UPF) has changed my life. Yet my wife, mum etc. all get concerned when I'm doing a 3 or 4 day fast as they think it's a form of eating disorder. It needs to be understood and accepted by society. We'd all be much healthier as a result.

For those without diabetes -- here is how I lost 9% of body weight since 1/1: eating anything I want before 11am; only water after that. The first week is hard, then it's ok. Occasional dinners (when I waive all restrictions) allowed, in average once in 2 weeks. Before 11am I eat what I want -- I don't care about calories, but my wife avoids buying food with transfats so I probably don't consume too much of them. I never visit places like Starbucks or Macdonalds. The first 7% of the weight went away pretty fast; then it slowed down but still I am descending. Note that the weight can fluctuate so only weekly averages really matter.

In just over 5 months I’ve lost 77 lbs. I had all the signs of pre diabetes. Now I feel better than ever, my migraines are gone so is my inflammation. My menstruation is shorter and the pain that usually came with it. I have 11 lbs left to reach my goal but I will forever continue this lifestyle. I will just stop fasting 40 hrs every other day so I don’t keep loosing weight. Tack dr Sten. Du har räddat mitt liv!

I did a 24hr fast recently and lost 4.4 lbs (2kg) 😮. Just black coffee and water.
Am T2D, have high BP and high cholesterol and need to reverse these soon.
My goal is to do this over the next two months and lose 15kg - and I know with the info in these videos, I'll get there!!
    Thank you, Dr Ekberg 😊

I've been trying to understand all this for several years. I believe I do now, and this video has helped, but I seem to be an outlier. I've been eating Keto, and then tried carnivore and have been eating OMAD for almost 4 years. Also, no grains or sugar or even sugar subs for years. Even when I do prolonged fasts (water only) my blood glucose doesn't drop below 200 until at least day 3. I don't get hungry until day 10 or more. My HOMA-IR IS 7. After being on the carnivore diet (strict) my A1c was 10 - up from a keto diet. That was ZERO carbs so the glyconeogenesis was working overtime! I felt really good on the carnivore diet. Much lower inflammation and pain, and I've lost weight. I think I have insane levels of insulin resistance. I'm not sure where to go from here. Drugs are a solid NO for me. It feels like I've tried just about everything natural.

Ideally you can drop a lot of weight just by fasting. I was also using fat burning cellulose which cut my appetite for 2 days and I never ate any sugar except some fruit. Probably dropping. But it is a process it does not happen overnight.

That is really a good video about the hormones and what is happening when you fast! It would have been even better, when you would have compared the fasting to a low calorie intake to show the difference between these two. For example the difference of cortisol.

Hi Dr Ekberg. I am wondering if the homogenization of heavy cream is harmful. It forces the fat particles through a filter that artificially changes the size of the fat particles. What are your thoughts about this? Thank you.

With my congenital motor and sensory neuropathy of unknown cause, I get tremors, severe weakness, fever, nausea, and dry heaves usually between 36-40 hours of fasting. That makes it hard to do more than 24-30h fasting. Too keep on a regular schedule, I do one meal a day. Even this let me lose nearly 30% of my body weight in fat (60/210 lbs) without exercise or changing what I eat or how much (except no sugary foods). Additional, profound benefits could likely be reached by others who don't share my severe muscle atrophy and joint degeneration from disability.

For fat loss, should you cycle your fasting window so your body doesn’t get used to the same thing. Fasting benefits seemed to have stopped after a year of doing the same fasting window. Please advise Dr Ekberg.

Sounds like the same thing in weight lifting. Your body becomes accustomed to your daily routine, so no more gains. Hitting a plateau, as we call it in weightlifting. They say to alter your routine, switch it up. I would assume the same for fasting window as well, but DON'T take my word for it.

Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with such acumen on pedagogy.
Your channel is important for the general interest. Because beyond the concern for weight, which mainly concerns a population from a socio-cultural environment focused on consumption and superficiality (hormones of capitalism), a better balanced diet also improves psychological health and reasoning skills. In a society where everything is done to stimulate emotions rather than reason.
I've haven't seen all your videos yet, I'm sure the information is on another one. But after watching this video, I'm wondering what are the signs for short or long term fasting.

Also light reflects back into glass to illumate pen markings. Sooo clean.
