- Pen Segmenting jigs for both Table Saw and Drill Press, I use a 2" for the scallops, and 1 1/8" for medallions hole saw. For information on the wedge I use you can go to my website www.exoticwood... and under About Us tab you can find a scale drawing for the wedge I use in the drill press jig.
Absolutely stunning pens you craft some awesome pens, great video thanks Andy
Thanks for the kind words Andy, hope the video helps. Thanks for watching.
As a Newbie my passion for pen turning videos is at boiling point - your videos have turned it into lava flow. WELL DONE!!!
Thank you for taking the time to watch them. Appreciate the kind comment.
Awesome jigs. Beautiful pens!
Thank you!
Thanks for everything, I just started to turn and I was amazed at your work, really good
You are welcome.
Gabe thank you so much for sharing your techniques on pen making. not everyone posts all their secrets on youtube.
Yup, Thanks for watching them, please share them also. I used to sell the video downloads but now the time has come to share them.
Gabe thank you for sharing this will help my grandson to stay off the finger pad he is showing intrest in turning thanks again.
Your welcome!
THANKS A LOT FOR THE VIDEO. wISHING TO SEE MORE LIKE THIS ONE!!!
2 great jigs, easy to make. Thanks for sharing
Glad you like them
Great video!
Thanks.
This video is grate and I am looking forward to making one. I would be interested to know what angle the wedge is set at to get it Wright. Thanks very much for all your videos very grateful
I don't know the angle of the wedge. I made it on the fly. Go to my website and you can see the drawing I have for it under segmented videos.

Gabe, thank you for all the postings. After watching the videos many times, I made all of the jigs and they turned out very well. Could you let me know what table saw blade you use to cut the triangular segments on the angular jig? Thanks again....fantastic pens and incredible jigs.
Thanks for watching my videos, the combination blade I used was a CMT and Irwin combination blade. Any combination blade should work great as long as it has a 90 degree angle on the teeth for Celtic Knots.
@@exoticwoodpen Gabe thank you very much for the guide lines and the reason. Best regards and hope your back is improving.
@@garloorca1904 You are welcome.
I see you had a lovely pen box in the beginning di you make it your self and if so did you film it. That would be a good project.
Hi Kim, the pen box you see in the video is a unknown brand of cigar box that I use as a display when I sell pens.
Thanks so much for sharing these videos. I've been looking forward to this one. I may have missed it but what size hole saws are you using?
Thanks for watching them, I use a 2", 1 1/8", and 1" hole saw.
Am I missing something on your website? I can't find the "segmenting videos tab".
Hi Dale, look for the About Us tab now. Just updated the description, thanks for letting me know.
Thank you, sir! I made one of these when you first put the video out and made several pens. Somehow I have lost my jig and need to make a new one because seeing some of your pens has inspired me again 🙂
Gabe. Learning from you, and about to embark on some segmented pen making. In this video about the sled, I don't recall you saying anything about the angle of cut on the wedge in the hole-drilling sled, or of the angle of the fences on said sled. Does it matter? Also, the size of the hole saw.
I didn’t give angle’s on the sled or the wedge purposely. If you recall me saying the wedge is a made up dimension. The wedges only purpose is to lock the blank in place, so make the wedge first and use it to line up that outer fence so that they’re both perpendicular to each other. And I believe in the description in the bottom of the video I list what size hole saws to use.
Your videos are awesome! I’ve been looking for info like this on segmenting! Thank you so much for the willingness to share your knowledge! Would you be willing to build the jigs and sell some? Thanks, Tim
Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos, I don't sell jigs as my tools can be different from the ones you own. More the half of the fun is making the jigs for your own specific tools and needs.
Ques? Are cutting the scallops on the 1/2” side or flat on the 3/4”. Looks like on the 1/2” but when I do that they are very small
Hi, they are cut on the side 1/2 wide strips. I use both 45 degree angle which are small and 60 degree angle are much bigger. I mostly use 60 unless it is a small pen where a 45 makes more sense.
I tried going to your website for information on the wedge for the drill press jig. It said address not found
The website is down for now, been working on it for years..

Gabe, Thank you for the video, turning pens is something I love to do. I can't wait to try one of these in your video. Could you tell me what size hole saw you are using on the drill press. Thanks!
2 inch hole saw
and a 1 1/8 for medallion
I noticed you use a lot of Bocote is that your favorite wood? I like the way it smells when turning it.
Thanks for watching my video's. Actually Bacote is not my favorite wood but one of my top ten for sure. I use it because it is less expensive than my favorite but still has a excellent grain pattern that shows extremely well when segmenting.
On your wedge is there a specific angle on the edge?
No, it is just a random angle and the jig is made based on the angle.
Tried going to your website, it said it was unsecured and I can’t access the info for tryout jigs. I’m very much interested in making segmented pens. Is there a way you could give the dimensions of your jigs. Thank you for any help
Hi, the jigs that i made are generic for my tools, you just have to use the basic design for you tools.
Thank you,
Roughly hoe big are the jigs length and width wise
The table saw is L: 14 inch x W: 12 inch
drill press is L: 8 inch x W: 12 inch
@@exoticwoodpen thank you, for helping me. I was able to watch your video a couple of times and I was able to figure out how to make the jigs. Thank you again Gabe
@@lukebeckwith4148 Awesome, have fun!
I rarely Liked watching this video. Can you tell me the size of the bench saw Jig base?
Roughly 8“ x 10“, these jigs are made as generically as possible because so many woodworkers have various types of tools so you would have to make it to fit your tools specifically. Thank you for watching my videos and I hope that answered your question correctly.
Gabe - Thank you so much for posting these awesome videos! I am loving all of them!! Such gorgeous pens! Can you tell me a little more about the wood you used as a base for your table saw jig?
I used 1/8 inch hardboard from my local HomeDepot. Nothing fancy.
@@exoticwoodpen Perfect! Thanks!
