Welcome to the brand new TLD Interloper series (as promised). The ULTIMATE survival challenge has begun! Will I die? YES! Should be super-fun!!
(This is version 2.0 because UA-cam screwed up S1E1 the last time I started this series. Luckily we were only 2 episodes in when this occurred, but I had to start from scratch...this is the result. ENJOY!)
Interloper is the hardest mode in Sandbox mode (The other difficulties are Pilgrim, Voyager and Stalker). The game describes that this mode is "For expert players looking for the ultimate wilderness Survival challenge."
In Interloper difficulty, you start with the most minimal resources, supplies are very scarce and Wildlife is rare, but it is more dangerous

Let's Play The Long Dark is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies -- only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.

The Long Dark Interloper Facts:
Interloper was a new game difficulty, introduced in v.364.
The world becomes more hostile to you as you play. Global temperature drops, wildlife and fuel resources become more scarce, and Blizzards become more frequent.
Apart from the Hacksaw and Hammer, which spawn rarely in the world, you need to create all your own improvised tools (ex. Hatchets, Knives, etc.).
The best Clothing and Food items do not spawn.
Wolves are more rare, but also more deadly.
Wildlife becomes more rare over time.
There are no Rifles in the world.
The picture that represents this mode is the skull.

TLD's History:
Let's Play The Long Dark is a first-person survival video game developed and published by Hinterland Studio. The player assumes the role of a crash-landed bush pilot who must survive the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster. The game received seed financing from the Canada Media Fund, and further funding was secured through a successful Kickstarter campaign in October 2013.
An alpha version was released through Steam Early Access in September 2014. The alpha version was later launched on the Xbox One as one of the first two launch titles associated with Microsoft's Game Preview Program in June 2015. Early reviews of the alpha release were generally positive, and the game went on to sell around 750,000 copies by April 2016. It was officially released on all aforementioned platforms on August 1, 2017, as well as for PlayStation 4.

Cat Tails don't spoil. They should be the food of last resort.
Yeah I know, but when I only need 100 calories to get 750 calories for a 10 hour sleep I tend to use them. Also, with cans I’m trying to hold out eating from them until I find a can opener...that way I don’t lose calories smashing them open.
It hurt me so much watching him pass by all that birch bark... they feel so valuable and rare to me, the teas they make are great!
It's interloper. No rifle, we have to find a hacksaw before we can even chop down a maple sapling and wait five in game days to make a bow (not to mention birch for the arrows), find a heavy hammer and make our way to a forge to make arrowheads, and one wolf battle can kill you from 100% condition in certain situations. ...

Rose hips and mushrooms weigh a good bit less once prepared, and that is something you can do instead of passing time and then they are ready should you need them or need the calories. Old mans beard also though weighing slightly more when prepared you want ready should you need it.

Valdemar Rationing. Saves about 2,800 calories a day while still allowing the player to start each morning at 100% condition. On the TLD wiki it’s called the “hibernation” strategy.

being thirsty makes u lose a lot of condition, very fast. and the weight of the water is 0 in your body, while quite considerable in your backpack ;)

@@mic8679 I don't remember the specific debuffs, but I know to cure it you have to spend 24 hours outdoors, which if you get it during a blizzard... good luck, mate.
Crouch to take aim at rabbits - then they come really close to you. Get into a position where they are coming towards you head on - much better chance of bunny dinner.

My friend and I affectionately refer to TLD as the "walking simulator"
Interloper could therefore be dubbed the "insanity simulator" as the definition of insanity (according to Einstein) is doing the same thing over and over expecting to get different results.... case in point: hoping you will find items in a location when you know you're playing Interloper difficulty...
Every time I hear a wolf-bark my heart rate just fly sky high, this is exciting! It's like we never know, is Astrid going to die or is she going to live through this episode? Keep up the good work!

That Hydro Dam was slim pickings for sure. Almost feel like you should make sure and get the prybar and hacksaw before checking out certain places. I thought you had the right idea when you thought about checking out Broken Railroad area. A bit punishing and dangerous but probably would of got a hackaw or prybar for the risk, either at the Maintenance Yard or Hunting Lodge. But your decision to head for Coastal makes sense at this point to be fair. Can't wait for next episode! And be sure to give us a heads up if you decide to live stream on twitch at any point
You may be overly used to the spook distance of deer. You can walk much closer to rabbits before you have to crouch. The trouble is they hop faster than you crouch. Dog-leg run around to get into their path and then crouch. I generally aim for the rabbit filling half the distance from the thumb to the index finger before I throw. Further is chancy, and being too close is also more difficult because the rock flight curves.

That stupid one way door messed up my game so badly... wish it was labeled as a one way door. Realistically, at least considering my own behavior, before closing a door, you should not whether or not it would be accessible again. Or you know, propping a door open. But it's a game, and one that explicitly lets you know that it's going to be brutal. It's like that time you roll a nat 1 on your best skill and DM chuckles and gives you the appropriate dialogue.
I'm amazed at how you keep the hunger meter empty for so much of the early game. or maybe I'm more surprised at how little condition loss there is. huh. Still, instead of passing time, don't you have skill books you could have researched, my dude?
Can't read if you're hungry/thirsty/it's dark, but he has cattails and if it's daytime I would have done the reading...
I play interloper quite a bit, one of the easiest ways to get rid of unwanted wolves is to bounce a rock off their face.
The theif that gets caught and goes to jail always feels violated because hes encouragable.
I like how Accurize2 always clicks on the radios. ^_^

In my experience, if you break down the cardboard and crates, there are occasionally items underneath them. Not sure if on loper or not, but I've had that in Voyager and Stalker.

Hey, i was watching a seasoned Interloper and apparently at the forge in the Muskeg a lot of the loot that spawns there always spawns including matches, books, accelerant, and some clothes. He got gloves.

you went deep into the hydro dam, and as you turned a corner my cats started hissing at each other. scarred the bejesus out of me. cause sometimes you can find a wolf in there.
the logging camp is a hotspot for if you want loads of foods and drinks, all most all of the time you go to the logging camp you find a stove in the little broken down shack #riptheshack xxx btw your doing great so far in the series!

frost bite gives u 10% damage on health every time u get it and it is permanent never get it back

Your clothes are wet- takes more time to dry them out to get rid of frostbite warning. Frostbite permanently reduces max HP by 10%

Keep it up man, just found a 22% rifle at the start but with no bullets on destroyed watch tower as a blizzard set in and with nothing to keep it going, i barley made it after i used adrenalin to make it to the lakeside lodge thing and napped, this was on Voyager btw
You can make improvised gloves and hats from cloth to stop frost bite

Never played this difficulty myself but I heard most people only eat once a day before they sleep. They basically stay on the brink of starvation to conserve food. Doesn't sound fun to me haha
It’s needed to do that cause it’s almost not even a point to fill the food up a good bit so usually cattail ever few hours and your good.

I noticed (episode 1 & 2) that you do not harvest the scarfs or cloth blankets hanging in those little huts. Some of them doesnt require a knife to harvest and cloth in early game is an important commodity as it means either warmer clothes or spare bandages.
I don’t know how good your computer is but the game visuals are beautiful!

Question: You've been eating cattails which (to my knowledge) don't expire, or if they do, its a very long time. Wouldn't it make more sense to eat sodas, canned food, etc in order to conserve weight? To be clear, I am not telling you how to play, just curious to make my TLD experiences more successful.

Is there a reason you don’t harvest every possible source of cloth? So useful... especially for snow shelters.
D M Heavy and it’s very plentiful...plus it takes up time harvesting which adds up to a lot of loot time being wasted. The cloth will always be there since it doesn’t decay.

11:10 frostbite is bad it takes away 10% of your overall condition permanently. I've got 2 things off frostbite on my main world and it's a pain at first because of how much health you just lost. But the new buff makes life way easier.
Also you can only get 5 frostbite in a game. So steer clear of that stuff.
@@ninjakid225 There is no limit to how many instances of frostbite you can get. So even if you already have frostbite on your hands you can get another one on the same body part.

Fast thinking with the rope and fatigue, I think I'd never realise to think that far and find myself fatigued with no escape. That's just something that comes with dying enough or do you have some bad news for me?
