Optae in Legion Artillery is probably subotimal, as they are automatically swept if they run :-(. Still a great addition, especially if running allied detachements...

My current idea around a Sagyar Mazan list with Hibou leading is have him on foot with a 7-8 man command squad, probably with a lot of charnabal tabars. They'll then be joined by a moritat (in red like a true dark son of death) so they gain rad grenades and scout. So a lot of str 6 weapons, including Hibou. They'll be 9-10 man strong, so quite likely to be able to trigger rampage with possibilites to get to ap2, but also just a bunch of ID-attacks. Could be a fun little murder squad. Also a Harr list with the juiced up Blackshields Veterans and extra elite slots could be a lot of fun. Veterans tooled up for close combat that gets to scout up to be the fast moving WE/RG contingent of The Fangs of the Emperor that's then supported by some heavy firepower which would represent the IW/DG part of the warband.
If I did Shattered Legions I would make a little marker for each squad. Just a series of big flags and little flags so you and your opponent could see at a glance which unit has which major & minor traits and flaws. Maybe an extra base, maybe magnetised.
On your point with Aximand’s shield… you would always take the iron halo save? So is the shield pretty much useless unless you wanted to risk it for the S4 attack?
I am suprised we didnt get Sharrowkyn as a model/rules. He would have fit the Shattered Legion theme more than Aximand. Hibuo Khan is a must buy for me, even if hes just going to moonlight as a Praetor half the time
I bought the Fire drakes, Pyroclast, Immortals, Morlocks Terminators, Dark furies & Chooser of slain only to find out ((NONE OF THEM ARE USABLE!?)) what the "FRAKIN FRAK!"
Since every captain/character they’ve come out with is usually bolt pistol and power weapon what would they do for Forrix in the books I’ve read about him he seems like a guy in power armor with a bolter is there anything in the books about him wearing terminator armor or having a melee weapon?
Aximand is quite disappointing imo His warlord trait is almost the same as the generic SOH armor of pride (Loken also has the same rule) That's a bit sad that they kept the same archetype for this character, I'd rather take a basic thunder hammer SOH praetor On the other hand I find Marr rules a lot more interesting to combine with some NL terror assault for instance Hibou Khan I don't really see the point of his rules You have no unit in WS that are elite enough to really benefit from being outnumbered His weapon is not that great Only in a small command squad in a proteus but they will struggle to really deal with harder unit Haar is a monster and an obvious choice Legion optae I don't really see the point Better take a basic command squad for the artificer armor and better weapon options Thanks for the review 😉
I like the book and characters overall, but Aximand seems to be weirdly meh. He just has the standard Armour of Pride warlord trait with a different name, a bit better paragon blade, a practically detrimental shield, and he’s more expensive than Marr, who has better rules. I don’t get it. If that shield gave 3++, it would actually be useful. Now it just takes away an attack. Meduson is perhaps even worse though. Real head scratchers.
@@medheadful Yeah it puts him in a weird spot were he's going to get slaughtered by any model with WS6 in challenge or a legion champion for a fraction of the price. If your playing him with Iron Hands you're really hedging on that WLT and declared charges lining up perfectly. Even then if you don't take out your intended target using Raise the Storm you're inadvertantly sending your units into slaughter... which is thematic I guess 😩
@nukedukem4260 yeah I'd be tempted then to back him up with a champion model I reckon then in whatever unit he joins. Champions are fairly cheap and probably worth it for that CC punch.
Check ✅ out the STL/3DP Alt. Models for 1) Shadrak 2) Endryd 3) Tybalt Marr & *D)* 'Little Horus: they absolutely *_Annihilate_* the Sculpts GW has teased us w/ for all these IMHO *_Overpriced 📳 Models_* (we'll 🙈 see how Little Horus turns out ...anit holding any breaths.....)

Would it be complete insanity to take the Optae as your only HQ? What would a narrative list look like for that?

Was really hoping to finally get some Salamander Character Models, and some characters outside of the legends PDF.
Its mad that we got a Shattered Legions book that got two Sons of Horus characters, but no actual Raven Guard or Salamanders!

Shadrak was fondly remembered for his dueling abilities, he once defeated Ferus in combat whispering nothing peraonal kid afterwards
