Veteran Sergeant, Lightning Claw and Thunder Hammer. You get that +1A for having 2 specialist weapons, and can basically kill anything you can throw him at.
Rapiers like you say are great points fillers. Veterans are so versatile, but a massive risk for how many points they are. And yes to illusion of choice - let's face it, you're getting the destroyers because rad missiles, getting the cataphractii because you have the points for a brick, apothecaries because feel no pain, and contemptors because you want to win games.
I like Rapiers as light artillery with phosphex shells, even if they don't kill a lot they will slow down a lot of troops with the terrain effect. Same for graviton cannon
Mate so good really: I do feel they’ve been written off for not reacting, and ye they’re not lascannon HsS good imo but they perform in 90% of the games I take them in
Destroyer squads have one nice gimmick you missed. Death guard and alchem hand flamers. 10 man squad gives fun of rolling dozens of dice and literally melting any unit
A tech marine in a night lord Heavy support squad will bump them up to 11 guys for out numbering. Cheaper than a master of signals. Curious if you can put both an apothecary and techmarine in the same squad.
Techmarines are outstanding for Iron Warriors. 10 Havocs with Lascannons, Warlord with Tyrant of the Lysattra, Techmarine with Cognis. 20 BS6 Lascannon shots per turn. Gets Hot is basically irrelevant as BS6 gives a reroll on to-hit so you only get hot on 1 in 36 shots. Finest grade Cheddar.
When you were talking about Cataphractii you said you take bigger squads and run with them. Cataphractii can't run, so you move them 6" across the board each turn? I feel like Cata's need a transport when Tartaros can just run on the board.
Ah ye: what Phil said there was just meaning move them up (run I suppose not Run?) just with the points really and the spread of the squad giving board control/presence is why I like em
Couldnt agree more tbh mate; love my vets in IW, like I don’t expect as much as a legion specific from them but they’ve been a cool way of punking people and dreads that get too close
@BearfootMiniatures For shits and giggles, I turned Fafnir Rann into what I call a Siege Chaplain to run with them. It's hilarious what 10 vets with power swords can do to most units.
Destroyers are sadly just bad, but rad grenades do indeed stack because if 2 Destroyers charged, they would insta kill on chainswords. Also, no matter if the unit got "hold the line" or not, they will still get rad grenaded. Rad launchers are super bad because ap on scaters suck, but nice against dreadnoughts, if you get super lucky.
Hello i like your video ! Agreed with an other comment Cataphractii can t run for me it s on the Land raider or nothing 😅. For the veteran i think you forgot the raven gard with infiltrator + talon claw they are beast who will kill Dreadnought and do damage any unit. The terminator are very good with son of horus (ignoring instant death) or empror children with thunder hammer who still strike in charge before the other unit with big weapon. ;)
Hang on.. you said characters with Bitter Duty can join other squads.. has that been FAQd or something because last I checked there was a bit of a debate as to whether Dominion Zephon could bring a Command Squad with him.. be good if he could bring who he wanted like!
I don't have an official answer for you, but if we take Battlescribe as an argument, Zephon can not only take a Command Squad, he can take an Ofanim Court. Last I heard, people were saying Bitter Duty prevents a unit from being joined by an unit without it, it doesn't prevent the unit joining a unit without. A silly rules lawyer argument, but one I will exploit with Zephon and Ofanim!
It's in zephons rules as to what retinue he can take. Bitter duty prevents a unit for being joined by a character unless they have bitter duty. As the character with bitter duty joins the unit without, this isn't the same thing so its allowed. Otherwise apothecaries couldn't join tactical squads
It’s the way Bitter Duty is worded, only characters with this rule can join units with Bitter Duty but there is nothing prohibiting the character joining an unit without Bitter Duty
I try not to take Tartaros Terminators with Storm shields and my fists for 2 resons, Cataphractii look cooler (IMO) and I dont want to be the guy bringing Tartaros with a 3++
Man, is that such a thing, like I don’t take them on squads that aren’t gonna be in combat but if it is IMO there never really seems to be a reason not too, they bonk people so easily
Veteran Sergeant, Lightning Claw and Thunder Hammer. You get that +1A for having 2 specialist weapons, and can basically kill anything you can throw him at.
Not a bad shout atall, near centurion level aswell so potentially worth the investment

Great content and insight for someone starting out in Heresy. Thanks.
I’ve two rapier lasers with a techmarine, they delete vehicles for fun. Love them
Mate so good really: I do feel they’ve been written off for not reacting, and ye they’re not lascannon HsS good imo but they perform in 90% of the games I take them in
With my AL I never leave home without a Graviton Rapier. The ability to put dangerous terrain at will on the board is too good.
Destroyer squads have one nice gimmick you missed. Death guard and alchem hand flamers. 10 man squad gives fun of rolling dozens of dice and literally melting any unit
Veterans need at least one shotgun. Dropping enemy WS is key for being effective into elite melee threats.
Suppose it’s not like it’s expensive for the opportunity (and are they going to return fire against it) good idea!
I'd rather go with a Grav Gun for the same effect myself. More useful in case concussive and the charge fail.
A tech marine in a night lord Heavy support squad will bump them up to 11 guys for out numbering. Cheaper than a master of signals. Curious if you can put both an apothecary and techmarine in the same squad.
You can there is no restriction to this.
As @calthstillburns says:
They aren’t ICs so no restriction that I know of to put both in

It’s great for the blast in your turn, I’m always put off by the loss of control of the reaction
I’ve been thinking of trying out destroyers with heavy chaniswords. Still 3 attacks per, insta deathing anyone who rolls a 1
It’s just that armour save man, would be good to have like the ork choppa rule to reduce the armour save by stuff like this
good vid

By running them across the board he just means he doesn’t take a transport and moves them up :-)
Ah ye: what Phil said there was just meaning move them up (run I suppose not Run?) just with the points really and the spread of the squad giving board control/presence is why I like em
or, you play TS and get +3 move on them ;)
I'm currently taking a 10man vet squad with power weapons in my Iron Warriors. They are a blender.
Couldnt agree more tbh mate; love my vets in IW, like I don’t expect as much as a legion specific from them but they’ve been a cool way of punking people and dreads that get too close

I feel like that's twisting the rules slightly
What's your source for Rad Grenades stacking because that's daft

@@danielheald1607 true. Zephons warlord trait limits him to a Destroyer assault squad, but Master of the Legion allows him retinues
It’s the way Bitter Duty is worded, only characters with this rule can join units with Bitter Duty but there is nothing prohibiting the character joining an unit without Bitter Duty
Dunno about zephon specifically but the BD rule only limits what characters can join units with BD not a character with BD joining another unit

Certainly a man of class
take it from a Salamanders player, flamers are entirely worthless in 2.0
Man I empathise so much, my heavy flamer squad is my fave unit (or combo flamer vets) when will they get their day!
houserule dragons breath breaching 6+
Your over spending points on thunder hammers.
