CORRECTION: You CAN customize the RAW button and set it to the ND filter! Also, by No film simulations, I mean It does not have the ones I consider to be MY main simulations, the ones I've used for years now on the newer x100 cameras (Classic Chrome & ACROS). First thanks for making this video. I have the original X100, I took it along with my XT2 to Costa Rica and to be honest I only used the X100, the images this camera captures are stunning even after 10 years, i'm still blown away. Yes it's slow and it doesnt have all the bell and whistles, but if you patient with this camera it wont let you down. I own many Fuji cameras, but this is still my favorite. Thanks again for sharing.

I bought a used X100 about five years ago. For someone who learnt to use a camera as a youth in the 1970s this camera was like coming home. I've hardly touched my Nikon DSLRs since. The layout of controls and use of dials just felt so natural to me, and the slower pace of the camera is a bonus in my view. I love using it and it has become my goto camera. Even after ten years I believe this camera still has a lot to offer and is a great way to break free from evermore complex and difficult to use DSLRs. It could give you a whole new take on photography and let you take photos rather than driving the camera.
Agreed! This camera still feels and performs really well. It actually motivates me to go out there and DO something. That's not a common feeling I get from most cameras. Newer cameras feel like mini computers, less personal, and less about the actual craft. And the fact that you got it 5 years ago, and it's still going (I hope) shows the quality of it as well! Thanks for the video. I'm a longtime SLR/DSLR shooter but recently bought an original X100 and it has completely recharged my interest in photography. You nailed it in that you really have to be involved in shooting this camera to get great photos but it really rewards the effort. Your video unlocked some of the features I didn't know about so thank you for that.

I am still using my x100 after 10 years next to my leica m9 for stills and Street. Both have sensors that draws pictures like no other camera. Especially at base iso. It’s all about colour management. The x100 samples in your video are exemplary. Nice video.

This is an old comment, but I agree. As an all round creative, I've grown tired of channels that use inadequacy bait for viewership. I refuse to click on videos with titles designed to hook you in, like "All you know about ____ is wrong" etc. I miss the UA-cam where reviews would be straight forward and tutourials would focus on teaching rather than boasting and showing off. Creators have very little humility any more. When a photography channel is also a lifestyle v-log, something is wrong in my opinion. It takes the addictive aspect of social media in general and sucks the fun out of learning about photography, or art, for the sake of engagement.

The X100 was my first Fujifilm camera. I bought it literally the day it hit the store shelves. I used Leica M cameras for decades, so I was enthralled by the advanced notices of the X100 the photography magazines of the time, and was first in line to buy it. My user satisfaction was not realized. I used a Nikon D700 and D300, so 12 mp was not an issue. The slowness was the problem. Everything from the speed of start up to the ridiculously bad AF caused such frustration. I had never experienced such short battery life, which I sadly found out about before I has bought a spare. Anyhow, I gave Fujifilm another chance with the X-T2 and was so impressed by the improvements in virtually every aspect that today, I have that X-T2, and X-E3, an X-pro2, an X-T3 and for retro look an X-E2s. Plus that original X100 which because of some masochistic internal tendency I still take out a few times a year. That is a short lived thing. I really feel the X100 is beyond its viable incarnation.
Interesting to hear (read) your thoughts! For most people, the value of the x100 becomes apparent after you've used newer and better cameras. The x100v is my main camera, and the speed, focusing and operational difference is just day and night. However the thing that keeps me, and other people going back to some of these older sensors, like the x100, and now the xpro1, is the truly unique image quality/look. Those sensors have a magic sauce... Not sure why that magic sauce is not replicated on the newer/better cameras, but I guess we can't have it all, can't we? Got the V in spring 2021 and love it so much. Sold everything else in september 2021 to just go with the V. Today I found a used original X100 (for 180 EUR only) and I could not resist. Now I am thinking about completing the whole series with the S, the T and the F, and I cannot wait to go out with the underestimated original one, to get great images. THANK YOU FUJIFILM ❤️
Congrats! I'm loving the V as well, it's a great camera and offers quite a bit. That being said, I know what you mean about the other x100 cameras. After reviewing this camera, my perspective on this series has changed quite a bit. Some of my own favourite images ever were taken with the x100t, and x100f. So these camera do not limit you. Agreed 100%. I love the x100v, but the colours are not quite the same as the x100t or x100, but everything else makes sense for me. The x100 still has a sort of magic look to it, At an incredible and reasonable price, there's no best time to start photography than now! it still boggles my mind how anyone today can be convinced that a phone can take better pictures than a dedicated camera, especially one like this X100... it's just physics at the end of the day, a big lens captures more light, thus more details.. even a cheap point and shooter can take better pictures than most phones.. its just an example of how scary and powerful marketing is i think..
X100 and 100S have an organic look, i still love those cameras. X100V is amazing but pictures have a sharper and clean look. iPhone is good for some situations but I’d never use it for portraits, the skin tones are way too “orange” and portrait mode still look fake if you have a “trained eye” , but it’s amazing for video and landscape, the HDR it’s incredible. But I see them like tools for different jobs.
I absolutely love this camera since I bought it when it was freshly released. The only thing that broke until today was (of course the battery but also) the charger. Apropos of nothing: it's still the very best looking digital camera ever made.

I do photography 16 years, I spent 13 years shotting with Canon and 3 with Sony, I?ve been working for Music events and Cerimonies. Last April I decided to buy this camera and I fell in love straight away. I bought the X100F two years ago and I love it. And the main reason was to force me to slow down and take my time rather than rushing around snapping everything. I might not be one, but I certainly feel like a "proper photographer" when I'm using it. Great video. Thanks. :)
Totally agree! That's one of the main reasons why I also use the x100 series and rangefinder styles cameras in general. Makes me feel more immersed in my craft. I picked one up for fun for about $200 two weeks back after watching this review, and somehow this has just replaced my D750 as my go-to daily camera. Definitely not for work applications, though. The speed really isn’t an issue since I started on film. Thanks for the great review!

@@Jorge-Perez I have it mostly for street use. For events and paid shoots it still is the D750 that’s the weapon of choice. I got it because it seemed like a reasonably priced option to find the “zen” of photography again. The speed and the weird controls (who the heck puts the AF-S in the most inaccessible spot on a three-position sliding switch?) are really worth a gripe but the results just blow all the complaints away. The seller of my unit got a Toshiba Flashair wifi SD card and just included it with the camera, so if you feel the pain of not having wifi, one of those cards is a good solution provided you can find one and can stomach the price. The biggest gripe I had with the D750 was that it was just way too big and obvious for street photography - people duck and cower when your body’s the size of a brick and your lens is the size of a pint mug!

Heeeeeeey Jorge. I got my x100 original in black for 350€ in a perfect condition. Almost like a collector product ! I am passionate about photography but didn't really invest in any material by the past. This is a new beginning for me. I'm almost waiting for the next iteration of the Fujifilm x100 2022 edition. the original x100 was the reason for me to get into the fuji system and now i've x100v (worked for it!) and an x-e3 for my wife (and mee) to be able to change lenses

Bravo! I'm using Xs from their beginning and own several models, though X100 and X-Pro1 are still my most favorites. As many X-shooters mentioned, old X-series cameras including X100 and cameras with 16M X-Trans CMOS sensor has some magic.

@@swirlybokeh9054 hurry up and get that xpro 1 if you're serious prices are starting to creep back up, because of realizing that their sensor is very close to film. I've seen them as high $700-$800 with a kit lens. Then anywhere around $500-$600 without lens. If any lower you might want to check the body wear.

@@Jorge-Perez you couldn’t have said it better. Back in 2019 I was using a Sony A7iii but when the pandemic hit, I had to let it go. Now I’m trying to be humble and get back to basics before I can get an expensive camera again. Camera might be gone, but my passion for photography isn’t!

Thanks for the informative video. I’ve had my x100 for almost a year and whilst I’ve struggled with it a little I’m getting to better understand it’s quirks and I love it! The menus can be frustrating and the autofocus is fairly slow, however, I set mine to MF and use zone focusing quite successfully (the focus scale is a little conservative though) and can still autofocus using the AEL/AFL back button when needed. It’s an awesome little camera which takes fantastic photos. I shoot RAW/JPEG but the JPEGs straight out of the camera really are superb. The AF/MF switch is my one gripe…AF-C should have been in the middle of AF-S/MF. One point to note…The early copies are apparently prone to sticky shutter so it’s worth looking for higher serial numbers.

Great review. I still have the original X100 and have owned every iteration up to the current X100V. My original X100, S and T are the only ones that didnt fail or have to be repaired, my X100F and X100V have had to be repaired due to some serious malfunctioning that firmware didnt fix. So I can only conclude the build quality of the original is far superior.

I had this camera as well, got it right at its launch, so it's been a long time. Honestly, this is an incredible camera, slow is not always the problem if you're shooting it as a smartphone. You decided your setting and even pre-focus then you can shoot away with confident, critical moments can be captured without much issues. The image quality was excellent even I look at the files today.

I purchased this camera new, some 10 years ago in a photography expo, and I still keep it along with my more modern models, just for the love of its extremely high build quality. I agreed with most of the notions he mentioned in the video: it is slow in almost everything, yet it produces excellent images.

I bought mine in 2011 on release and I'm still frequently blown away by the images I get. It's tack sharp even with the converter on and the colours are natural but have film quality I can't describe. Put it on manual focus, leave it on F8 set your zone focus and it's the perfect street camera. Even landscapes I took in Austria are stunning. Best camera I have owned and still love it.
I still own and use a X10, it is not a 100 series at all but it ts such a beautiful and reliable camera for almost 10 years and also a very good beginner camera, with similar pros and cons of the X100! Great quality content, editing and sound! Greetings from Sintra, Portugal!

Bought the X100 new, still have it. Only recently bought the X100V. While the X100V is newer, faster etc. The original X100 is still great! (Also, significantly faster with firmware update.) I plan to continue using the X100 as a companion camera to the X100V. The original X100 has a special place for me, it deserves to be used.

this was my first 'pro' level camera and was my only camera for the past 10 years, i took my time to take each shot and it never let me down, i have such a sentimental value for the X100. i recently upgraded to a faster mirrorless after 10 years but i will keep X100 forever because i love the aesthetic and picture quality comes out of it even today

I purchased a used X100 in "Like New" condition back in 2012 for $800 and still use it today. In 2013, I took it as my only vacation camera to Disney and was not disappointed. Sure, I missed some shots that I could have gotten with lenses that had longer/wider focal lengths, but I didn't have to carry extra gear around in 90+ degree heat all day either. Here are the ways I still use it today: 1) when hiking if I want to have a pocketable camera or one that can be carried on a wrist strap; 2) when going to gatherings of family/friends and I don't want to be obtrusive with a larger camera, but still want high quality images; 3) when I'm forced to deal with the mid-day sun and can use high speed flash for fill; 4) as a second camera in situations where I don't want to take 2 larger cameras or lenses; 5) when I want to take people pictures and need a little fill or slow synchro flash because Fuji nails the exposure every time. Since I now also own the X-T2, I really can't justify getting the 100V due to the price, so I will continue to use and love my original X100.

@@Jorge-Perez I found it very easy. I have been a Nikon shooter and still have a D750 with an assortment of lenses. However, two years ago, I decided to get the X-T2 after the X-T3 came out, since the price on the older model dropped. at the time, I paid $725 for the body. I don't regret it. When I'm out on a hike, I often have my X-T2 with the 50-140 plus 2X extender to capture wildlife. And to keep my load light, I carry the X100 with the wide angle converter in a vest pocket or back pack when I'm looking for a wider view. Duplicating that with a Nikon system will result in a bulkier and heavier load to carry around all day. Plus, the shooting experience on the X-T2 is just wonderful. Viewfinder is bright and sharp, screen tilts in three directions, focus joystick makes changing focus points quick and easy, lockable dials help to keep setting in place, quick and accurate auto focus, dual card slots, etc. The engineering on this camera is just superb and the images are terrific as well. I could see myself living with the X-T2 for a very long time.

Thanks for this video. The latest and greatest is nice but, if you're strapped for cash (as many are right now) and getting better at photography is still a priority, going with an older camera is a good way to get/stay sharp. I had this camera back right after the X100S came out (wanted to save a few dollars). Yes, it was slow and required more forethought to the desired shot, but it still got the job done.

I bought mine in 2019 an I could not agree more with the main point of the video! It's a gem and it changes the way you approach your shooting. If you stick to use the optical viewfinder batterylife can be quite decent, it's the evf and backscreen sucking a lot of energy. Oh and the raw butto is customisable, I have changed mine to activate/deactivate the ND-Filter, which can be quite handy. Because of some reasons the max shutterspeed at f2 is 1/1000, everything above this will create some strange bokeh (not kidding, look it up). Oh and get one without the sab-issue (sticky aperture blades). Do your research on this, some models with a certain serialnumber are affected.

@vin digga, what you are describing as "strange bokeh" is due to leaf shutter limitations! For f/2 max shutter speed is 1/1000 sec, for f/4 it's 1/200 sec and for f/8 you can use max shutter speed 1/4000 sec. This is why all Fuji X100-series have built-in ND filter. It allows you to use wide open aperture in bright conditions :) @Jorge Perez, realy nice video! I own X100F but thinking about getting original X100 for it's IQ and colors. And I think those colors are because of Bayer sensor which was only in original X100 (I think) ;)
I just discovered this camera 2 days ago. Say your other video talking about it. Found on ebay a food deal (I hope) and bought it. My goal is to step away from the machine gun photography that I learned with my first "decent" camera, Canon D1000 I think it was, and the fast speed pictures I take with my phone as well as having an excuse to go out in the city and walk it with different wondering eyes. Hi there Jorge, firstly very nicely presented episode. Although when you mentioned lack of film simulations did you mean not enough? As that model I believe came with 8 simulation modes. Some - not all film, but Astia, Provia and Velvia were included. All the best from Melbourne Australia.
Thanks for your nice comment! Yes I meant compared to my main camera (the x100v) lacking my favourite simulations like classic chrome and Acros! I did clarify that on a later video (Fujifilm X100 Complete Getting Started Guide in 2021 video) I just wanted to make sure people understood what I meant. Great Video. I own the succesor the X100s and I love it. The XTrans II sensor is magical. The Jpegs have a film like look. I bought it used six years ago and still use it for casual work.

Thanks for these terrific videos on the original X100. As a PSA, the original X100's ability to clear the buffer is absurdly sensitive to the write speed of the SD card being used. Jorge: If you make another X100 vid, please share the recommendation to use a 95 MB/s or higher card. It's strange that it makes such a difference for a camera this old, but it does!
Awesome video. I just bought my OG X100 and can't wait. I'm perfectly used to taking things slow. I use the Nokia 9 pureview and the old Sigma DP2S for photos. I can't imagine the Fuji being slower than those two

I've had many Fuji digital cameras, XE2, XT1, X-Pro2, and the original 12.3MP X100 remains my favourite. I like the look of the images and the fact that most folk believe it's a film camera and become invested in the process, whereas other cameras are plainly digital and, let's face it, nondescript. It reminds me of the Aires Series 2 that I cut my teeth on many decades ago...

Great video, I own a Xpro1 since 4 years now and not looking to replacement, mostly shoot on film so this is a nice digital camera for me, really curious about the 100 series.

I bought mine, 5 years ago, for £225, so it was 7 years old. I use a Hasselblad film camera and this......I took both to Greece, 2 weeks ago, and the Fuji was ace. I love the Hassy too, but as the Author says, treating or enjoying the Fuji as a film camera is the best way. This camera gives wonderful results even on Auto (shock horror) and I use it instead of my phone camera 99% of the time. It is not for sports or speed, but that is fine for me. I stupidly dropped it onto concrete from about 4ft in London....not a scratch. Hopefully it carries on but obviously its getting old, but then so am I, so I give it space. Love it.

Im nearly 60, film was the only option in my yoof! My Hasselblad was made in 1969, equally tough although i dont intend dropping it! This would be comparable, with similar speed and quality. Great camera overall. It's hard for people that are used to faster cameras or smartphones, but if you're currently using the X-pro1, then speed should not be an issue! I have subscribed. Many of the gadgets on modern cameras perplex me, and I honestly don't have the patience to figure it all out and still take a good photo without the opportunity passing me by. I'm about to change from a Nikon D90, a heavy, cumbersome camera to a Fujifilm X100. I am very drawn to taking street photos, and this camera seems to fit the bill. By the way, you cannot get them on Ebay or anywhere else for less than 350-400+ American dollars. I'm not sure why. Maybe the X100 appeals to more people because it is simple and incredible. Welcome to the community! It does seem like the camera has some sort of status or fame attached to it. But it is possible to find it for reasonable prices. The important thing to consider is that the lens is actually worth quite a bit, it's almost identical to the XF 23mm F2, which costs $449 USD alone. But the quality, portability and results that this camera can achieve are incredible. It's also a great way to downsize your current setup without spending thousands as well. Regarding navigating menus and complicated new cameras. I agree, some brands out there feel like small computers, and although it can be fun to learn how to use that computer, it feels less personal, those cameras feel soulless to me. Hope that helps! Good point. probably a better experience to use the OVF as well. The speed feels slow if you come from an XT3 or x100v like myself. But in the scheme of things, it's not bad at all. Great camera for people getting started or moving from film to digital. I'll be addressing the sticky shutter and other things from the x100 in a future video. @@Jorge-Perez i don't think you were too negative at all, you just mentioned a few things, that is deal breakers for me, if I am in an analog mode i will use my analog Olympus, if I am in analog"ish" mode i have an x-pro1.

I know that it is a comparison that cannot be made, but I ask you what would be better to start (at the same price used) between this x100 or a more recent reflex like Canon 250D which also has connectivity for example? Hi Carlo, it's not a fair comparison to make, image quality is just one of many aspects of a camera. If you have watched my videos then you know that usability and portability matters as well, enjoying the camera, and wanting to use it is part of the process as well. I think you're looking at the specs of the 250D, which on paper look nice, and assigning the value to that. But I personally would not get a dslr, I don't see myself carrying that, or shooting video with it, or enjoying recycled body designs or anything like that. I haven't used it, so I can't really give you an opinion on the 250D, but it kinda goes against my street photography setting and style. I think you need to do a bit of self exploration and think about what are the most important aspects that matter to you and that affect your everyday life, and go from there. Hope that helps! I just found my x100 and the charger in the cupboard. Last used it in 2014. Doesn't seem to have any mold or fungus. I'm going to get a new battery (old one's bloated). Let's see how it works out!

@@Jorge-Perez still got the 7D w15-85 70-200F4L, A7 w28-70kit, 35mm f1.4, 50mm f1.5 Voigtlanders. Had 500D,Fuji bridgecamera and Nikon compact. In the old days had a Pentax MZ50 and Pentax Espio filmcamera (Illford 400 B&W). Over time your interests and skills change. I am really happy with 24-70ish range. Primes are awesome. Might one day add another Voigtlander to the A7. Yet for walkaround/street the X100 is great.

It bugs my wife as when we go for walks I keep stopping to take another close up of some flower or another. I have my eye on an X100 now that I hope to pick up this week. I am wondering if you have done all the updates for the camera. Fuji has a philosophy of fixing things that are bad in their released older cameras. When the X T1 came out it was crap, but Fuji came out with amazing upgrades and added additional options.
Yes you're right! the firmware updates made it a little faster and more pleasant to use and gave me the option to set the RAW button as the ND filter! My remarks about speed are mainly when I compare it to newer cameras. Coming from the X100V and then trying to use the x100 you feel it right away, but overall it's a great camera and I really enjoy using it, and highly recommend it as well. How's the X-T1 treating you? I'm interested in potentially testing that camera eventually. Like you mentioned, I really enjoy this Fuji philosophy, at least they put the effort to continue to support older equipment. @@Jorge-Perez I'm an older fart who began photography with a Konica T3 purchased in 1974. Then to Canon with a 10s (film), then Original Digital Rebel, then Rebel Xsi, then Canon 5D 2 and finally 5D 4. I also have the X100f Fuji. For my style and speed of photography which I have learned over time, I realized the X T1 would be "good enough." I live in a town close to a rural area on Vancouver Island. I wanted to tour around on my electric bike and shoot rural scenes. But over the years I have had a few falls from my bikes and I was nervous risking the mk 4 and L lenses. I like the Fuji system, small and packable and easier to protect than the larger gear I own. And I knew the X T1 would do everything I wanted it to do, no fast shutter stuff (fps), no need for super high ISO, a decent megapixel count, and overall quality build with camera and lenses. With one exception all my Fuji lens are primes (4) and one consumer zoom for farting around. I had the bucks to buy a X T3 (I bought the X T1 prior to the X T4 release) but since I owned the Canon 5d 4, I decided to stick with a camera that meet all the requirements for rural shooting - landscapes and rural animals.
Got my X100 in 2011, and my X100F in 2017 . Some of my best pictures are shot with these cameras on trips around the world . I will always keep them. Added GFX50R with various lenses in 2019, though still grap the tiny X100F at times.
That is very interesting, how are you finding the differences between the medium format fuji and the aps-c fuji cameras? But yes I agree, some of my favourite photos were taken with the x100 series (T, F, V) and I absolutely love it. I shoot film only but started thinking about getting a digital device for street shooting. I'm leaning towards this camera. Only thing which hold me back is the workflow of turning it on the device before taking a picture (on just keeping it in standby all the time, which will the drain battery fast). With my film camera I can just grab it from my backpack and snap quickly (a bit slower than the phone). Great review, thanks!
Good point! the camera's battery is not the best, however, if you only use the optical viewfinder, then the battery will last a LOT longer. Maybe that actually suits you, since you're coming from film cameras with optical viewfinders. Start with a disposable film camera if you haven't tried photography before. if you have, and you're looking for a camera to help you focus on your craft and improve your skills then this is a great option. X100 if you enjoy the 35mm equivalent lens, or X-Pro1 if you want the option to change lenses. Review of the x-pro1 is up now! Hi Daniel, If you are planning to collect all the x100 then it's a great idea, you might have to spend a little more time and money searching for a mint condition model with no issues and all the accessories, box, etc. But if you already have some of the newer x100, and you don't plan to collect cameras, then maybe you can skip this one. Just got a 3rd one for $260 in mint shape. I know. Im crazy but these cameras are freaks. I still cant get over the picture quality. On this camera, you cannot go by old reviews.
Oh man 😲 you're becoming a camera collector! This is it, I can see it happening already haha. There's nothing wrong with that, this camera is special and a great way to get started on your creative journey. Shooting with intentionality and slowing down are pros in my opinion. And for that price? that's hard to miss. You might end up starting a cleaning and restoration business solely focused on fixing them up, cleaning them up and selling lol. First thanks for making this video. I have the original X100, I took it along with my XT2 to Costa Rica and to be honest I only used the X100, the images this camera captures are stunning even after 10 years, i'm still blown away. Yes it's slow and it doesnt have all the bell and whistles, but if you patient with this camera it wont let you down. I own many Fuji cameras, but this is still my favorite. Thanks again for sharing.

I bought a used X100 about five years ago. For someone who learnt to use a camera as a youth in the 1970s this camera was like coming home. I've hardly touched my Nikon DSLRs since. The layout of controls and use of dials just felt so natural to me, and the slower pace of the camera is a bonus in my view. I love using it and it has become my goto camera. Even after ten years I believe this camera still has a lot to offer and is a great way to break free from evermore complex and difficult to use DSLRs. It could give you a whole new take on photography and let you take photos rather than driving the camera.
Agreed! This camera still feels and performs really well. It actually motivates me to go out there and DO something. That's not a common feeling I get from most cameras.
Newer cameras feel like mini computers, less personal, and less about the actual craft. And the fact that you got it 5 years ago, and it's still going (I hope) shows the quality of it as well!

Thanks for the video. I'm a longtime SLR/DSLR shooter but recently bought an original X100 and it has completely recharged my interest in photography. You nailed it in that you really have to be involved in shooting this camera to get great photos but it really rewards the effort. I am still using my x100 after 10 years next to my leica m9 for stills and Street. Both have sensors that draws pictures like no other camera. Especially at base iso. It’s all about colour management. The x100 samples in your video are exemplary. Nice video.

This is an old comment, but I agree. As an all round creative, I've grown tired of channels that use inadequacy bait for viewership. I refuse to click on videos with titles designed to hook you in, like "All you know about ____ is wrong" etc. I miss the UA-cam where reviews would be straight forward and tutourials would focus on teaching rather than boasting and showing off. Creators have very little humility any more. When a photography channel is also a lifestyle v-log, something is wrong in my opinion. It takes the addictive aspect of social media in general and sucks the fun out of learning about photography, or art, for the sake of engagement.

The X100 was my first Fujifilm camera. I bought it literally the day it hit the store shelves. I used Leica M cameras for decades, so I was enthralled by the advanced notices of the X100 the photography magazines of the time, and was first in line to buy it.
My user satisfaction was not realized. I used a Nikon D700 and D300, so 12 mp was not an issue. The slowness was the problem. Everything from the speed of start up to the ridiculously bad AF caused such frustration. I had never experienced such short battery life, which I sadly found out about before I has bought a spare.
Anyhow, I gave Fujifilm another chance with the X-T2 and was so impressed by the improvements in virtually every aspect that today, I have that X-T2, and X-E3, an X-pro2, an X-T3 and for retro look an X-E2s. Plus that original X100 which because of some masochistic internal tendency I still take out a few times a year. That is a short lived thing.
I really feel the X100 is beyond its viable incarnation.
Interesting to hear (read) your thoughts! For most people, the value of the x100 becomes apparent after you've used newer and better cameras. The x100v is my main camera, and the speed, focusing and operational difference is just day and night.
However the thing that keeps me, and other people going back to some of these older sensors, like the x100, and now the xpro1, is the truly unique image quality/look. Those sensors have a magic sauce... Not sure why that magic sauce is not replicated on the newer/better cameras, but I guess we can't have it all, can't we?

Got the V in spring 2021 and love it so much. Sold everything else in september 2021 to just go with the V. Today I found a used original X100 (for 180 EUR only) and I could not resist. Now I am thinking about completing the whole series with the S, the T and the F, and I cannot wait to go out with the underestimated original one, to get great images.

Congrats! I'm loving the V as well, it's a great camera and offers quite a bit. That being said, I know what you mean about the other x100 cameras. After reviewing this camera, my perspective on this series has changed quite a bit.
Some of my own favourite images ever were taken with the x100t, and x100f. So these camera do not limit you. You are the one capturing moments in time and creating memories.

Image quality is still great, worth using over any phone for sure, and some ppl even prefer that sensor to newer ones.
Agreed 100%. I love the x100v, but the colours are not quite the same as the x100t or x100, but everything else makes sense for me.

it still boggles my mind how anyone today can be convinced that a phone can take better pictures than a dedicated camera, especially one like this X100... it's just physics at the end of the day, a big lens captures more light, thus more details.. even a cheap point and shooter can take better pictures than most phones.. its just an example of how scary and powerful marketing is i think..
@@jub8891 My iPhone 11's image quality is crap compared to my X100V... but they always say that they are DSLR quality.
X100 and 100S have an organic look, i still love those cameras. X100V is amazing but pictures have a sharper and clean look. iPhone is good for some situations but I’d never use it for portraits, the skin tones are way too “orange” and portrait mode still look fake if you have a “trained eye” , but it’s amazing for video and landscape, the HDR it’s incredible. But I see them like tools for different jobs.
I absolutely love this camera since I bought it when it was freshly released. The only thing that broke until today was (of course the battery but also) the charger.
Apropos of nothing: it's still the very best looking digital camera ever made.
It's a great camera for sure, image quality beats some modern cameras as well. It's my #1 recommendation for people starting out!

I do photography 16 years, I spent 13 years shotting with Canon and 3 with Sony, I?ve been working for Music events and Cerimonies. Last April I decided to buy this camera and I fell in love straight away. It really is! Just remember to set your expectations accordingly, mostly about the speed of the camera. But other than that it's a great camera, it offers amazing results for the value. Keep me posted about your experiences using the camera and the results you're getting later on!

I bought the X100F two years ago and I love it. And the main reason was to force me to slow down and take my time rather than rushing around snapping everything. I might not be one, but I certainly feel like a "proper photographer" when I'm using it. Great video. Thanks. :)
Totally agree! That's one of the main reasons why I also use the x100 series and rangefinder styles cameras in general. Makes me feel more immersed in my craft. I liked that term a lot "Proper photographer".

I picked one up for fun for about $200 two weeks back after watching this review, and somehow this has just replaced my D750 as my go-to daily camera. Definitely not for work applications, though. The speed really isn’t an issue since I started on film. Thanks for the great review!

@@Jorge-Perez I have it mostly for street use. For events and paid shoots it still is the D750 that’s the weapon of choice. I got it because it seemed like a reasonably priced option to find the “zen” of photography again.
The speed and the weird controls (who the heck puts the AF-S in the most inaccessible spot on a three-position sliding switch?) are really worth a gripe but the results just blow all the complaints away.
The seller of my unit got a Toshiba Flashair wifi SD card and just included it with the camera, so if you feel the pain of not having wifi, one of those cards is a good solution provided you can find one and can stomach the price.
The biggest gripe I had with the D750 was that it was just way too big and obvious for street photography - people duck and cower when your body’s the size of a brick and your lens is the size of a pint mug!
Bought one today, used, for 240. Still learning how to use it. Did about 50 shots today, so far so good.

Heeeeeeey Jorge. I got my x100 original in black for 350€ in a perfect condition. Almost like a collector product ! I am passionate about photography but didn't really invest in any material by the past. This is a new beginning for me. I'm almost waiting for the next iteration of the Fujifilm x100 2022 edition. I will probably buy it :)

the original x100 was the reason for me to get into the fuji system and now i've x100v (worked for it!) and an x-e3 for my wife (and mee) to be able to change lenses

Bravo! I'm using Xs from their beginning and own several models, though X100 and X-Pro1 are still my most favorites. As many X-shooters mentioned, old X-series cameras including X100 and cameras with 16M X-Trans CMOS sensor has some magic.
I agree! I love my X100V, but sometimes feels like the older cameras have unique characteristics that I would like to see on the newer cameras!

@@swirlybokeh9054 hurry up and get that xpro 1 if you're serious prices are starting to creep back up, because of realizing that their sensor is very close to film. I've seen them as high $700-$800 with a kit lens. Then anywhere around $500-$600 without lens. If any lower you might want to check the body wear.

@@Jorge-Perez you couldn’t have said it better. Back in 2019 I was using a Sony A7iii but when the pandemic hit, I had to let it go. Now I’m trying to be humble and get back to basics before I can get an expensive camera again. Camera might be gone, but my passion for photography isn’t!

Thanks for the informative video. I’ve had my x100 for almost a year and whilst I’ve struggled with it a little I’m getting to better understand it’s quirks and I love it! The menus can be frustrating and the autofocus is fairly slow, however, I set mine to MF and use zone focusing quite successfully (the focus scale is a little conservative though) and can still autofocus using the AEL/AFL back button when needed. It’s an awesome little camera which takes fantastic photos. I shoot RAW/JPEG but the JPEGs straight out of the camera really are superb.
The AF/MF switch is my one gripe…AF-C should have been in the middle of AF-S/MF.
One point to note…The early copies are apparently prone to sticky shutter so it’s worth looking for higher serial numbers.

Great review. I still have the original X100 and have owned every iteration up to the current X100V. My original X100, S and T are the only ones that didnt fail or have to be repaired, my X100F and X100V have had to be repaired due to some serious malfunctioning that firmware didnt fix. So I can only conclude the build quality of the original is far superior.

I had this camera as well, got it right at its launch, so it's been a long time. Honestly, this is an incredible camera, slow is not always the problem if you're shooting it as a smartphone. You decided your setting and even pre-focus then you can shoot away with confident, critical moments can be captured without much issues. The image quality was excellent even I look at the files today.

I purchased this camera new, some 10 years ago in a photography expo, and I still keep it along with my more modern models, just for the love of its extremely high build quality. I agreed with most of the notions he mentioned in the video: it is slow in almost everything, yet it produces excellent images.
You can set the RAW button to enable the ND filter

I bought mine in 2011 on release and I'm still frequently blown away by the images I get. It's tack sharp even with the converter on and the colours are natural but have film quality I can't describe. Put it on manual focus, leave it on F8 set your zone focus and it's the perfect street camera. Even landscapes I took in Austria are stunning. Best camera I have owned and still love it.

I still own and use a X10, it is not a 100 series at all but it ts such a beautiful and reliable camera for almost 10 years and also a very good beginner camera, with similar pros and cons of the X100!

Bought the X100 new, still have it. Only recently bought the X100V. While the X100V is newer, faster etc. The original X100 is still great! (Also, significantly faster with firmware update.) I plan to continue using the X100 as a companion camera to the X100V. The original X100 has a special place for me, it deserves to be used.

Glad to hear that! As long as you understand the limitations, then you will have a great time, and hopefully get great results for it as well! From my experiences, once you get used to rangefinder-style cameras, and you get used to the OVF, then you'll never go back! 😂

Just picked up an X100 for $250. Super stoked! I use a Sony A7 with vintage lenses so I'm used having to slow down and missing the occasional shot.
That's a great deal! I prefer the colours and profiles from Fuji over the Sony ones, and if you are already used to the speed required, then you'll probably learn to like the colours and get it all in camera! Excited to hear what you think of it later down the road!

this was my first 'pro' level camera and was my only camera for the past 10 years, i took my time to take each shot and it never let me down, i have such a sentimental value for the X100. i recently upgraded to a faster mirrorless after 10 years but i will keep X100 forever because i love the aesthetic and picture quality comes out of it even today
Agreed! This camera is definitely special, Newer cameras are better and more efficient, but feel like soulless computers. Will Definitely keep the x100 around, even after owning newer cameras.

I purchased a used X100 in "Like New" condition back in 2012 for $800 and still use it today. In 2013, I took it as my only vacation camera to Disney and was not disappointed. Sure, I missed some shots that I could have gotten with lenses that had longer/wider focal lengths, but I didn't have to carry extra gear around in 90+ degree heat all day either.
Here are the ways I still use it today:
1) when hiking if I want to have a pocketable camera or one that can be carried on a wrist strap;
2) when going to gatherings of family/friends and I don't want to be obtrusive with a larger camera, but still want high quality images;
3) when I'm forced to deal with the mid-day sun and can use high speed flash for fill;
4) as a second camera in situations where I don't want to take 2 larger cameras or lenses;
5) when I want to take people pictures and need a little fill or slow synchro flash because Fuji nails the exposure every time.
Since I now also own the X-T2, I really can't justify getting the 100V due to the price, so I will continue to use and love my original X100.

@@Jorge-Perez I found it very easy. I have been a Nikon shooter and still have a D750 with an assortment of lenses. However, two years ago, I decided to get the X-T2 after the X-T3 came out, since the price on the older model dropped. at the time, I paid $725 for the body. I don't regret it. When I'm out on a hike, I often have my X-T2 with the 50-140 plus 2X extender to capture wildlife. And to keep my load light, I carry the X100 with the wide angle converter in a vest pocket or back pack when I'm looking for a wider view. Duplicating that with a Nikon system will result in a bulkier and heavier load to carry around all day. Plus, the shooting experience on the X-T2 is just wonderful. Viewfinder is bright and sharp, screen tilts in three directions, focus joystick makes changing focus points quick and easy, lockable dials help to keep setting in place, quick and accurate auto focus, dual card slots, etc. The engineering on this camera is just superb and the images are terrific as well. I could see myself living with the X-T2 for a very long time.

Thanks for this video. The latest and greatest is nice but, if you're strapped for cash (as many are right now) and getting better at photography is still a priority, going with an older camera is a good way to get/stay sharp. I had this camera back right after the X100S came out (wanted to save a few dollars). Yes, it was slow and required more forethought to the desired shot, but it still got the job done.
100% agreed, that's the main reason I made this video to begin with, for the price, this camera is incredible, and it has quickly become my #1 recommendation for people starting out!

I bought mine in 2019 an I could not agree more with the main point of the video! It's a gem and it changes the way you approach your shooting. If you stick to use the optical viewfinder batterylife can be quite decent, it's the evf and backscreen sucking a lot of energy. Oh and the raw butto is customisable, I have changed mine to activate/deactivate the ND-Filter, which can be quite handy. Because of some reasons the max shutterspeed at f2 is 1/1000, everything above this will create some strange bokeh (not kidding, look it up).
Oh and get one without the sab-issue (sticky aperture blades). Do your research on this, some models with a certain serialnumber are affected.
That's great advice! I'm thinking of keeping it to shoot manual/optical viewfinder only! And I did not know about the raw button, that makes it a lot easier to use quickly.

@vin digga, what you are describing as "strange bokeh" is due to leaf shutter limitations! For f/2 max shutter speed is 1/1000 sec, for f/4 it's 1/200 sec and for f/8 you can use max shutter speed 1/4000 sec. This is why all Fuji X100-series have built-in ND filter. It allows you to use wide open aperture in bright conditions :)
@Jorge Perez, realy nice video! I own X100F but thinking about getting original X100 for it's IQ and colors. And I think those colors are because of Bayer sensor which was only in original X100 (I think) ;)
I just discovered this camera 2 days ago. Say your other video talking about it. Found on ebay a food deal (I hope) and bought it.
My goal is to step away from the machine gun photography that I learned with my first "decent" camera, Canon D1000 I think it was, and the fast speed pictures I take with my phone as well as having an excuse to go out in the city and walk it with different wondering eyes.

Hi there Jorge, firstly very nicely presented episode. Although when you mentioned lack of film simulations did you mean not enough? As that model I believe came with 8 simulation modes. Some - not all film, but Astia, Provia and Velvia were included. All the best from Melbourne Australia.

I did clarify that on a later video (Fujifilm X100 Complete Getting Started Guide in 2021 video) I just wanted to make sure people understood what I meant. The original x100 has Astia and Velvia, and these are great, but I miss the classic chrome haha.

Great Video. I own the succesor the X100s and I love it. The XTrans II sensor is magical. The Jpegs have a film like look. I bought it used six years ago and still use it for casual work.

Thanks for these terrific videos on the original X100. As a PSA, the original X100's ability to clear the buffer is absurdly sensitive to the write speed of the SD card being used.
Jorge: If you make another X100 vid, please share the recommendation to use a 95 MB/s or higher card. It's strange that it makes such a difference for a camera this old, but it does!

I'm still shooting with the OG X100 and XT1 and have no plans in upgrading anytime soon. I use ProMist filters to really get that film look.

I've had many Fuji digital cameras, XE2, XT1, X-Pro2, and the original 12.3MP X100 remains my favourite. I like the look of the images and the fact that most folk believe it's a film camera and become invested in the process, whereas other cameras are plainly digital and, let's face it, nondescript. It reminds me of the Aires Series 2 that I cut my teeth on many decades ago...
Totally agree, This camera is special, still holds up in terms of image quality and usability, and looks cool, to be honest, that matters more than people think. I've been thinking about this for a while, a camera needs a soul, otherwise, it's just a fancy calculator or computer.

I just got one last week. Updated the firmware and its much better in every respect. I paid 365 u.s. came with everything as new in mint shape

Great video, I own a Xpro1 since 4 years now and not looking to replacement, mostly shoot on film so this is a nice digital camera for me, really curious about the 100 series.
I see!, it would be similar to your experience with the xpro1, but lighter, smaller, and no interchangeable lenses. If you are fine with a 35mm equivalent lens, then the x100 series would be a good match for you! Thanks fort your comment and for watching as well! I appreciate it! 🙌🏽

I bought mine, 5 years ago, for £225, so it was 7 years old. I use a Hasselblad film camera and this......I took both to Greece, 2 weeks ago, and the Fuji was ace. I love the Hassy too, but as the Author says, treating or enjoying the Fuji as a film camera is the best way.
This camera gives wonderful results even on Auto (shock horror) and I use it instead of my phone camera 99% of the time.
It is not for sports or speed, but that is fine for me.
I stupidly dropped it onto concrete from about 4ft in London....not a scratch.
Hopefully it carries on but obviously its getting old, but then so am I, so I give it space.
Love it.

Im nearly 60, film was the only option in my yoof!

I shoot with a xpro1 and manual lens. I've been looking for an all in 1(with the lens attached) slow point and shoot camera.
This would be comparable, with similar speed and quality. Great camera overall. It's hard for people that are used to faster cameras or smartphones, but if you're currently using the X-pro1, then speed should not be an issue!

I have subscribed. Many of the gadgets on modern cameras perplex me, and I honestly don't have the patience to figure it all out and still take a good photo without the opportunity passing me by. I'm about to change from a Nikon D90, a heavy, cumbersome camera to a Fujifilm X100. I am very drawn to taking street photos, and this camera seems to fit the bill. By the way, you cannot get them on Ebay or anywhere else for less than 350-400+ American dollars. I'm not sure why. Maybe the X100 appeals to more people because it is simple and incredible. It's slow? So am I. I'm sure we will work out perfectly. Thank you so much for your informative video. Cheers!
Welcome to the community! It does seem like the camera has some sort of status or fame attached to it. But it is possible to find it for reasonable prices.
The important thing to consider is that the lens is actually worth quite a bit, it's almost identical to the XF 23mm F2, which costs $449 USD alone.
But the quality, portability and results that this camera can achieve are incredible. It's also a great way to downsize your current setup without spending thousands as well.
Regarding navigating menus and complicated new cameras. I agree, some brands out there feel like small computers, and although it can be fun to learn how to use that computer, it feels less personal, those cameras feel soulless to me.

If you use the OVF, the battery life is not an issue. Regarding the speed of the AF , I find it not so bad. Have you updated the firmware?
Good point. probably a better experience to use the OVF as well. The speed feels slow if you come from an XT3 or x100v like myself. But in the scheme of things, it's not bad at all. Great camera for people getting started or moving from film to digital.

@@Jorge-Perez i don't think you were too negative at all, you just mentioned a few things, that is deal breakers for me, if I am in an analog mode i will use my analog Olympus, if I am in analog"ish" mode i have an x-pro1.
What is the attachement on your lens?

Hi Carlo, it's not a fair comparison to make, image quality is just one of many aspects of a camera. If you have watched my videos then you know that usability and portability matters as well, enjoying the camera, and wanting to use it is part of the process as well.
I think you're looking at the specs of the 250D, which on paper look nice, and assigning the value to that. But I personally would not get a dslr, I don't see myself carrying that, or shooting video with it, or enjoying recycled body designs or anything like that. I haven't used it, so I can't really give you an opinion on the 250D, but it kinda goes against my street photography setting and style.
I think you need to do a bit of self exploration and think about what are the most important aspects that matter to you and that affect your everyday life, and go from there. Hope that helps! Thanks a lot for watching and taking the time to leave a comment as well! Cheers 🙌🏼✨

I just found my x100 and the charger in the cupboard. Last used it in 2014. Doesn't seem to have any mold or fungus. I'm going to get a new battery (old one's bloated). Let's see how it works out!

I picked up a used X-T1 with a used 27mm Lens. This is a great combo with a tilt screen. So I can change perspective or shoot from the hip.

Had 500D,Fuji bridgecamera and Nikon compact. In the old days had a Pentax MZ50 and Pentax Espio filmcamera (Illford 400 B&W). Over time your interests and skills change. I am really happy with 24-70ish range. Primes are awesome. Might one day add another Voigtlander to the A7. Yet for walkaround/street the X100 is great.

@@Jorge-Perez So the X20 funnily enough is my go to for macro shots. I have a thing about taking photos of flowers really close. It bugs my wife as when we go for walks I keep stopping to take another close up of some flower or another. I have my eye on an X100 now that I hope to pick up this week. I am wondering if you have done all the updates for the camera. Fuji has a philosophy of fixing things that are bad in their released older cameras. When the X T1 came out it was crap, but Fuji came out with amazing upgrades and added additional options.
Yes you're right! the firmware updates made it a little faster and more pleasant to use and gave me the option to set the RAW button as the ND filter! My remarks about speed are mainly when I compare it to newer cameras.
Coming from the X100V and then trying to use the x100 you feel it right away, but overall it's a great camera and I really enjoy using it, and highly recommend it as well.
How's the X-T1 treating you? I'm interested in potentially testing that camera eventually.

@@Jorge-Perez I'm an older fart who began photography with a Konica T3 purchased in 1974. Then to Canon with a 10s (film), then Original Digital Rebel, then Rebel Xsi, then Canon 5D 2 and finally 5D 4. I also have the X100f Fuji. For my style and speed of photography which I have learned over time, I realized the X T1 would be "good enough." I live in a town close to a rural area on Vancouver Island. I wanted to tour around on my electric bike and shoot rural scenes. But over the years I have had a few falls from my bikes and I was nervous risking the mk 4 and L lenses. I like the Fuji system, small and packable and easier to protect than the larger gear I own. And I knew the X T1 would do everything I wanted it to do, no fast shutter stuff (fps), no need for super high ISO, a decent megapixel count, and overall quality build with camera and lenses. With one exception all my Fuji lens are primes (4) and one consumer zoom for farting around. I had the bucks to buy a X T3 (I bought the X T1 prior to the X T4 release) but since I owned the Canon 5d 4, I decided to stick with a camera that meet all the requirements for rural shooting - landscapes and rural animals.
Got my X100 in 2011, and my X100F in 2017 . Some of my best pictures are shot with these cameras on trips around the world . I will always keep them. Added GFX50R with various lenses in 2019, though still grap the tiny X100F at times.
That is very interesting, how are you finding the differences between the medium format fuji and the aps-c fuji cameras? But yes I agree, some of my favourite photos were taken with the x100 series (T, F, V) and I absolutely love it.

I shoot film only but started thinking about getting a digital device for street shooting. I'm leaning towards this camera. Only thing which hold me back is the workflow of turning it on the device before taking a picture (on just keeping it in standby all the time, which will the drain battery fast). With my film camera I can just grab it from my backpack and snap quickly (a bit slower than the phone).

Good point! the camera's battery is not the best, however, if you only use the optical viewfinder, then the battery will last a LOT longer.
Maybe that actually suits you, since you're coming from film cameras with optical viewfinders. I made another video where I talk about it and some settings that benefit film users as well, "Fujifilm X100 Complete Getting Started Guide in 2021"

Yes, definitely! Start with a disposable film camera if you haven't tried photography before. if you have, and you're looking for a camera to help you focus on your craft and improve your skills then this is a great option.
X100 if you enjoy the 35mm equivalent lens, or X-Pro1 if you want the option to change lenses. Review of the x-pro1 is up now!

Hi Daniel, If you are planning to collect all the x100 then it's a great idea, you might have to spend a little more time and money searching for a mint condition model with no issues and all the accessories, box, etc.
But if you already have some of the newer x100, and you don't plan to collect cameras, then maybe you can skip this one. Gracias por el commentario y espero que sea algo de ayuda 😁🙌🏽

Just got a 3rd one for $260 in mint shape. I know. Im crazy but these cameras are freaks. I still cant get over the picture quality. On this camera, you cannot go by old reviews.
Oh man 😲 you're becoming a camera collector! This is it, I can see it happening already haha.
There's nothing wrong with that, this camera is special and a great way to get started on your creative journey. Shooting with intentionality and slowing down are pros in my opinion. And for that price? that's hard to miss. You might end up starting a cleaning and restoration business solely focused on fixing them up, cleaning them up and selling lol.
Hopefully reviews like this one can be more helpful to people getting into this camera, and help people see it from a different perspective.

@@Jorge-Perez i actually have a bunch of old compacts. Fuji f10,f11,f30 and about 10 more and my XF1 and XQ2. I was a pocket cam guy but the X100 is so insane especially at 400 iso and under the color and detail are ridiculous
