      I had the XE-1 for years and didn’t feel the need for a X100. I passed the XE-1 on recently and got the X-100V and love it. I never liked the D pad so “the V is for me”.

      I got the T about 2 months ago. My other camera is an xt20. The viewfinder of the T is in auto brightness and always looks underexposed. The lcd looks good but I don’t like to use it. Also the buffering is too slow but I don’t know if is because I am used to faster cameras or is my sd card.

    I've owned S, T, and F models. To me the X100T is the best version. Image quality is already great. No need for focus joystick added in the F version. No need for ISO selection dial. I had one button to switch between 200 and auto ISO and it covered 99.9% of my needs.

    I think you forgot to mention that the x100v is the first one which got weather sealing. This might be a big deal for some.
    The weather sealing, the bigger battery, resolution, lens and tilting screen made me upgrade from x100t to x100v. But I don't like the OLED viewfinder.

    Interesting reading the comments. I have had the S for a long time now and it does everything I want. I've used it also to video my band on many occasions (obviously handing it over to someone else for the gig) and it has done a great job of that too. I'll keep it till it falls apart on me. Super everyday camera.

    I’ve had the S, T and F and I’d say the T is the sweet spot. It’s way speedier than the S and for me the Wi-Fi capability is essential given that I shot with the film simulations and post to social media mostly. One advantage of the F is greater crop-ability due to those extra megapixels, but the Q button drives me crazy (so easy to accidentally click) and you can’t turn it off.

    Matt, thank you for your comprehensive historical review of the X100 Fuji series. I recently went from the 100F to the 100V for the new lens, the weather proofing, and the beautifully integrated tilting screen among other features. And yes, I just couldn't resist the handsome industrial design in silver. I use my 100V as my everyday camera, and my minimalist street and travel camera. Lovin' every minute!

    I just picked up an X100F (second time owning) for $630 with a Gariz half case, lensmate thumb grip, and a squarehood. Unless you really need the tilt screen for waist shooting, the weather sealing, or better lens for up close, I think the F is the one to buy right now if you can hunt for a deal. It still holds up perfectly well right now in 2022 and will for years to come I imagine.

    I have the X100S, since it first came out and love it. I then bought an XE1 and a 27mm pancake. For me it was between the S and the T and I ended up buying the T. My choice was mainly focused around price - I was finding T models that weren't much more than S models, and in some cases at the same price, so when I found one with 1700 shutter clicks at a great price I got it. The T also has some additional features that I like.

    I’ve been using the S since 2014 and it’s the one and only camera that I’ve missed when I forgot to bring it with me when I travel. I also think that with the old lens, 16MP is the sweet spot, which is also why I didn’t go for the F when it came out.
    I bought the V a few days ago and I absolutely love the tilting screen and the sensor/lens combination. Also, weather sealing means I won’t have to worry about it in the rain. It is the ultimate refinement for the classic X100 series in 2020.
    I will be keeping both since I really like the characteristics of the S’s sensor/lens combination, and I do agree with you that if I have a limited budget and can only get one of them, it would be the S.

    The X100T got a pretty good upgrade over the S imo, plus Classic Chrome. I've shot this camera exclusively for 4 years. I still don't really need to upgrade but i was thinking about getting the F or V. The F is the best deal currently and more than good enough. I'm not sold on the V as the lens is still slow even though the software is faster and it requires additional parts for full weather sealing. The older lens of the F also has better character imo. I think everyone should own an X100 camera as you can always have it with you.

    I got the original from 9 years ago. Everytime Fuji comes up with a new version, I spend my time testing and playing around with them. In the end, I stick to the original because to me that is the essence of 'digital film' photography experience: ISO, Aperture, Shutter and an eye ball. The only thing I don't like is that the metering does not follow Sunny 16 rule. It has and still messing up with my mental calculations.

    I got X100, quickly upgraded to the X100s when it was released because the X100 was just too slow (wake-up from sleep was seconds, I only had that on my R-D1s, this was bad). The X100s was amazing, I used it all the time, even when I got my X-T1 and shot a lot with it, and I still used it when my main camera turned into the X-T3 because it was just amazing. But the missing weather sealing, the lense that just was not that good compared to what I have for the X-T3, the different batteries made me get the X100v. The lense is just amazing and that allone was worth it. The weather sealing, the flip screen and the shared batteries with the X-T3 are just nice additions. The only thing that rubs me a bit is the cross buttons removal. The touch display will never replace them. Also I am confused why the front and back dial are still so easy to turn and not stiff as on the X-T3. But besides that, the X100v is amazing.

    Is it just me but I really dont like the redesigned body of the X100V? I was a original X100 shooter for 5 years untill I decided to upgrade to the F (I eneded up selling the F for a Pro2) but the original X100 felt so unique and looked beautiful. Yes it had its problems but for me it felt stripped down and built for still images. When I upgrade to the F, it was jam packed with more menus, buttons and features I never used. Now with the redesigned F, the body just looks to "modern", clean lines, sharp edges, flat face and spaces,... what happend to the attention to detail of the bodies design the origonal had!... oh well, I've still got the Pro2 and enjoy shooting film, but the original X100 will forever be my favourite digital camera.

  • @chrissoclone

    I bought the original back in early 2014 for €500 and never felt hard pressed into upgrading. I love this camera to bits, it kicked me back into photography after I had lost interest in the hobby altogether and I will always thank Fuji on my knees for that. In the beginning autofocus was unusable in everything but bright daylight, until I found out months later that Fuji does something called "Firmware upgrades" and my model was still at 1.x.... upgrading turned it into a totally new and still usable camera.
    However, compared to my newer cameras, I agree with you that the S or T would probably the sweet spot for me now, the original's files always look slightly softer in comparison to the X-Trans, the jump to 16MP is exactly the slight cropping potential I sometimes need, and I miss some of my most used film simulations - no, not even classic Chrome, but essentials like Pro Neg. Also, 720p to 1080p video... Oh, and have they ever changed the internal microphone? For a compact camera I always loved the sound quality for secret concert clips, it's muuuch better than on any of my later Fujis (X-E1, X-T1).

    I sort of have a love-hate relationship with the x100 series. I bought an S, then sold it. Felt bad so bought another one. Used it on and off then upgraded to an F and eventually sold it. The advantage of the F was the batteries are the same as my X-T2 and X-H1 as well as major upgrade in focusing.. Fortunately I bought them used as they tend to plummet in value. It's almost worth it for the leaf shutter flash advantages alone which are awesome. I finally decided that I don't "see the world" in the 35mm construct like most people claim and that the 50mm equiv seems to be the ticket, at least in my view. I wasn't enamored with the teleconverter, may as well just have an interchangeable lens camera. So I decided to use the proceeds to buy the 35mm f1.4 for my X-H1 and pocket the remaining cash for now. It's been happily bolted to the camera for awhile now and that's working out well. Who knows, maybe I'll get bit by the 100 bug again down the road..

    The X100V is the only weather sealed (sealable) camera of the bunch and it is a game changing feature if you want something reliable anywhere. It is also MUCH better when focussing in the dark despite not being much of an improvement in autofocus speed. I waited almost 11years before pulling the trigger, always thinking the X100 line was a kind of "luxury" segment for the poor man. in fact both Panasonic and Olympus did better and offered better IQ for a lower price and similar format. Only recently, with the X100V I found the camera to be worth buying because of all the small improvement, excellent lens and splash freeze dust protection, excellent viewfinder and tilting screen: something only the now defunct GX8 had until now.

    Hi Matt.Nice review, as usual !
    With the X100T, Fuji introduced wi-fi communication that allows the camera to be controlled remotely by a phone, or for rapid file transfert and geotagging . This was a deal breaker for me when I was looking for a used version of this camera.

    • @HogbergPhotography
      @HogbergPhotography 3 роки тому +1

      If the Wi-fi communication only had been "rapid" I would agree.. Still does not work as exted on any of my 3 fujifilm cameras..

      I've played with the WiFi control on my camera. A big feature it's lacking is the ability to do a focus lock. The app is pretty much useless without the ability to focus.

    Thank you for this great video. I choosed the X100 because I found one for 200 euros in a very good shape. Also, it's a way to get used to the X100 series and see how I feel with that, on time. I know that the image quality still is very good. I am a slower user. I think that the cmos sensors have something special...

    Lovin' the X100F (brown) with the add on WCL lens (28mm equivalent). I was disappointed that the V doesn't have the D pad. I use the D pad to map frequently used settings. The tilt screen isn't a big deal to me as I shoot the X100F like a film camera, often from the hip, and later look at images in the coffee shop. Just my style I guess.

    I've still got the original X100 which I bought new when it first came out. It's a great little street camera but the only thing that really bugged me was that it was so easy to knock the Exposure Compensation Wheel just by taking the camera out of the case. I thought at the time that it would have been so easy to have a lift and turn type wheel so you don't change the setting accidentally and not notice until reviewing the shots. Did they ever change that design in later models?

    i believe the the x100s is a good camera to start. I have it and I love it, i don't think i would be changing my camera in the next 5 years.

    I don't mind the tilt screen of the V. What bugged me about the V was the removal of the D-Pad. Sure touch screens are nice for touch to focus, but I use my camera up to my face, and tapping isn't very useful. I know you can program the touch screen for swipes, but I rather press a button instead of swiping for my presets. That's why I'll keep my x100F a little longer instead of upgrading.

    • @Hansinho10
      @Hansinho10 2 роки тому

      Absolutely, I find the D-Pad gives you a lot of useful costumisation options for auto-ISO settings, white balance, continous shooting and so on. With the removal of the D-Pad Fuji limited the options of the X100V.

    I would definitely choose the V-it has the latest film simulations, which is one of the best reasons to shoot Fuji, plus I frequently wished my X-E3 had a tilting screen, so theres that too. Plus weather sealing. Also, USB-C. I hate micro USB...

    You won't believe how great it is to buy an x100s here in China. I just got a silver one(sadly) with a good UV and 4 batteries for just 1800yuan(about 250 dollars) with little scratches and no real damage in the body.

  • @maze400
    @maze400 4 роки тому

    I thought that was a great rundown. IMO the V is worth it if you have the extra money. I am not into video, the tilty screen is nice to have if you need it. The most important thing to me is the fact that wide opened, it is the sharpest of the five. I do have the original and the image quality of that sensor is what started it all so, I am still hesitant to replace it.

    I had the F and jumped on the V without hesitation. Even in landscapes and well stopped down the old lens didn't have a chance againts the new one which is visibly better even on moderately sized prints. Lens- and sensor-perfomance really have a love-affair again in the V and you can just shoot along knowing that the optical quality will hardly ever let you down under any circumstances.

    I had the original X100, sold it, missed it and bought it again. After that I had a X100S which I really loved to shoot with. Man I really like that sensor! In 2018 I bought the X100F which I still use. I don’t think I will buy the X100V. My favourites are the X100F and the X100S.

    I bought a black “S” approx four months ago. I live in the NYC metro area and before COVID-19 hit I was shooting street photography with it almost daily.
    It’s a hell of a camera and I’m extremely pleased with it. It holds up very well compared to more modern cameras and would highly recommend it to anyone for Street and travel Photography.

    Hi Matt...long time follower. Love your content!
    I’ve had my S since it was first released and it’s by far my most used camera. The 4 way controller wheel became unresponsive/glitchy so I sent it into Fuji for repair. I spoke with them earlier today...since it’s and older model and they no longer have parts, they offered me a brand new X100T as a replacement for $390. I jumped at the offer! Thought this might be useful for someone out there with an older model looking to upgrade.
    Happy New Year!

    I think I'd like the X100VI, where they add some form of stabilisation for low-light shooting at low ISO/low movement (Museums, etc.) and to use all the video capabilities they added in the V (but need a Tripod or Gimbal to take much advantage of)....
    (Ricoh did IBIS with an APS sensor in the considerably smaller GR3, so maybe licence the tech?)
    P.S. That assumes they don't do what they did with the latest XPro and design it to only work in limited ways, as that's how they want you to shoot...

    I bought an X100F in December 2019 to replace an aging Sony digital camera. I'm used to 35 mm film SLR's but wanted a handy small high quality 'carry around' camera when I didn't want to carry around a bulky SLR with a bagful of lenses. At first I was daunted and confused by the plethora of features and controls on the exterior of the camera but now that I've become more accustomed to it I really like it..especially the built-in film simulations and built-in neutral density filter. And the non-interchangeable lens is not really an impediment for me..I find myself concentrating on composition and the built-in digital 'short zoom' capability is fine for my purposes. The only complaint I have is the placement of the 'Q' button; I've pressed it accidentally with my thumb on numerous occasions at a critical moment but that is a function of simply keeping in mind where I place my right thumb when grasping the camera. Other than that a wonderful photographic instrument I have no regrets at laying out the cash for it. And it simply looks 'retro cool'..reminds me of the classic film rangefinder cameras. The X100V came out the month after I bought my X100F..I don't feel slighted at the least that I didn't wait for the new model.

    I shoot Canon full frame and have been eyeing one of these bad boys for a while. Something smaller and something that is simple (one lens) that I can carry everyday and work on my creativity. Also something for family/travel, when I want something slightly better than my iphone. I agree the X100s seems to be a sweet spot. I was worried about x-trans and lightroom. I've read some about that issue online but haven't researched it enough. I just downloaded some sample raws and played with the x100 and x100s raws. I didn't notice anything weird. Do you have any experience with that issue?

  • @glennmitchell6696
    @glennmitchell6696 3 роки тому +2

    I chose the X100V because of the improved lens. I do not like the idea of a lens that it is markedly soft wide open or close up. The weather/dust sealing was an important consideration, too.

    The lens is amazing and really renders beautifully. I am lucky to have the V and it’s a real keeper
