BNSF Railway 25th Anniversary: 1995 - 2020

- BNSF railway is a freight rail carrier based in Fort Worth, Texas that provides transport services in the western half of the United States. The company was formed in 1995 with the merger of the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe railroads. September of 2020 marks the company’s 25th anniversary and to celebrate, I’d like to take the opportunity to go back and look through some of my videos of BNSF trains in action over the years. We’ll start in 2002 and work our way forward up through nearly two decades worth of BNSF trains.
CoasterFan2105 is the home of all sorts of train and railroad related video content. Stop by every Friday at 9 AM Pacific time for an all new railroading adventure and be sure to check out all of my social media pages @coasterfan2105 for even more great railroad content. Thanks, and I'll see you down the line!
2002: the year when predecessor power was common.
Thank you for sharing this Mike!
Son particular loves this video because of how it shows BNSF and their orange trains mainly. It has taken him over two weeks to watch it all. We let him watch bits at a time before bed.
I love how BNSF still keeps some locomotives in their original Burlington Northern or Santa Fe paint. It’s just so cool!
This is what we’ll call it rainbow power. We love it on how they look like to us during their original years on operating their own separate railroad before they merged together.

I like that bnsf show the history of the two railroads before they merge
I had a bnsf model locomotive
They're just lazy to repaint the unit lol
1:01 I remember when the trains used to blow the horns at the grade crossings in Fresno, now it’s a quiet zone since city hall is right there.
Yup! I went there many times when I was younger.
Booo to quiet zones.
Frog and Flange Video I agree.
Rochelle illinois rail diamond used to be that way up until 2016 due to noise complaints
I feel so so much of Fresno is quiet zones now! And I'm sad that the grade crossings are going away. I mean, I know it's better for traffic but I really enjoy the loud blasts of the train horns as they fly through.
Oh my beloved H1 locomotives where have you gone? You could be seen on practically any train in the early years but now you're but a rare sight...
@joshua tonsing BNSF doesn't seem to like them much.
@@AVeryRandomPerson I know. I kinda wish that they would embrace their history a little more, rather than unifying their entire engine fleet under the "swoosh" logo.
Hey coasterfan2051 that shot in Fresno back in 2002. I remember back then that area wasn’t a quiet zone. But now it is.
Yeah, it sure has changed down by the station.
Mike your videos never cease to amaze me! Especially love the 00's footage! My grandma lived right by the BNSF SBD sub in Corona, CA in the early to mid 00's! I can't tell you how much those Dash 9 K3la's made me foam to much lol! Great footage man! Enjoyed this whole hour! :)
Thanks so much, Dean! Sometimes it’s hard to believe how much BNSF has changed over the years.
I love

Wow, BNSF really likes to repaint their locomotives! They've been doing even just after the merger.
Yup! They’ve repainted a lot of them!
Wow
It's very satisfying to see 2 railroads combined together and successful for 25 years. That's a hella long time! Great video Mike!
Yes it is! Thank you!
It is incredible to see how much BNSF has changed but the good thing is that the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe locomotives continue to give everything
Yay happy birthday BNSF just railfanned one in Flagstaff
Awesome
KDT&R Productions happy birthday BNSF

I 000
HAPPY birthday BNSF
Nice 1 hour
Thanks!

This is amazing. I am kicking myself for not taking pics/videos in the years I worked in downtown Fresno, when I crossed those tracks twice daily. These videos are amazing-that is all. :D
Yay my favorite railroad is 2 in a half decades old
Nice profile pic
@@iliketrains1233 thank you
👁👄👁
Happy Birthday BNSF.
Well done Mike
Thanks!
Thank you for your over 1 hour long Video to the 25th Anniversary of BNSF!
You’re very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Nice video, I love all the beginning shots showing off a time when bnsf still regularly used dash-8’s and 9’s. One of my favorite times for bnsf. Great work!
Thank you! It seemed like every train from that period had a completely random mix of locomotives. Quite a different look from today!
2:38 Young Coasterfan got scared by the horn! XD
We're definetly never gonna get the same lashups as back in the early 2000s. Nice vid!
Nope! That was a really neat era for the railroads. Thanks for the comment!
19:50 The horn is beautiful. I can listen to it all day
I’ve been watching your videos for 7 years and they never get old
Nice video mike
Thanks, Steven!
BNSF is my favorite railroad and I'm proud for their 25th anniversary. Great video!
3:41 I love that horn
Great job on the video, I look forward to the Amtrak video
Thanks!
Enjoy you videos Mike, keep em coming.
The A-B-B-A set of GP60s towards the end was sweet.
3:18 I remember seeing ex-BN units lettered for FURX as a kid (that was circa 2006)
4:53 wow, an H1 high hood SD9. I'm quite surprised that some high hood units ended up being painted in BNSF orange
5:40 BNSF had their own intermodal trailers? I thought the JB Hunt agreement was reached in the ATSF days.
8:02 awesome catch of a 9-unit power move led by an H3 with incomplete front logo. I first an H3 as a DPU on a coal train in Merriam, Kansas in 2006
9:36 was that light power move of all 4-axle warbonnets for a special event, or was it purely coincidental?
11:20 lash-ups like that is why I love early BNSF. A variety of locomotive types all in different liveries
12:58 that H1 has a nice horn! I also like that an H2 and H3 are right behind it. It's like an evolution of BNSF orange
18:48 so it took until 2010 for JB Hunt containers to dominate an intermodal train. This is also the first train in the video to have an all-H3 GEVO lash-up. I consider this the point where "early" BNSF turns into "modern" BNSF. Modern BNSF consists of mostly GEVOs in H3 with e bells and K5HL horns.
It’s really interesting to see how BNSF trains have evolved over the years. Thank you for commenting and watching!
Wow once I get the chance I’ll watch this whole thing. Leave it to Mike to make sure we never forget anything big in the railway community!
Haha, thanks! I try!

Awesome video with BNSF 25th Anniversary:
Thanks!
Funny, this is the second time you posted a video on the day I leave for a trip (I'm going to San Diego) XD. Great video btw, can you do a train talk on the 3 mechanical locomotives (Hessier irrc, Climax and Shay)
Thanks, Nicholas! I actually already did one on the 3 different geared locomotives! It was posted back in May of 2018 I think.

There are some epic power consists going on here! I really wish it was still like that now 😔
I knew the C40-8W, H1 GP60B, BN SD70M, NS, and Warbonnet would be in this video!
I'm going to try and retire here I have always loved there Locomotives
Nothing beats massive HIGH SPEED intermodal trains flying across the desert on the BNSF!
nice video coasterfan2105 i seen csx alot of times but i seen bnsf at the amtrak station
Awesome and thanks!
Alright, happy birthday and anniversary BNSF Railway.
BNSF is my favorite railway ;)
Same
@Evan Hughley great
Wow already
Hard to believe!
You should Railfan at Market Ave in Richmond! There is a BNSF line that is about a block from the Amtrak track. If you stay long enough, you might see a BNSF train!
I’ll have to check that out some time!
September 22 will be the official 25th birthday of the BNSF railway.
Videos don't do it justice. To see one of these awesome machines idling in the early hours at Skykomish WA, rumbling the ground like thunder. I loved seeing them in the fog.
Impressive technology.
Cool

I like your freight trains videos
The second clip had a weird horn. Good vid too. Also I loved the Burlington Northern switcher.
Thanks! Yeah, that RS3L on the 800 definitely sounded like it needed some work!
7:55 The first year I was ever alive
great video mike i love the shots and keep up the good work my friend
4:57 *cue mike gasp*
Nice man this is very cool
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Best railroad ever and I'm also a union Pacific kind of person too
Wow that’s a great bnsf
Can you do a train talk about BNSF 25th anniversary?
Please love my commet.
Probably not this month but hopefully eventually!
I’ve actually never seen a BNSF loco or train. The only UP engines I saw was when that special train came through Harriman NY
When this situation clears up you should go travel and see some.
I didn't know BNSF still had some GE Santa Fe U-boats in 2003.
I believe they disposed of their last one's in 2007.
MAN! THAT WAS INTERESTING.
Super great collection there !!!
It’s weird to think that only 10-15 years ago that class ones weren’t infested with GEVOs
Nice video!
Thank you!
AWSOME!
Nice Job Mike!
Thanks!
Also, BNSF 6990 was the leader of a BNSF Grain train that derailed and caused a BNSF Crude Oil train to derail in 2013.
Nice one going
Thank you!
this was posted on my B-Day
Happy birthday!
thanks!
BNSF is the best! Someone make a book about the railroad!
happy anniversary bnsf!!
The best days of BNSF were 1995-2009. Rest of it is boring, and honestly sad.
I agree. I liked when you saw a mix of power from its previous railroads, now you just see GEVO power.

Wow. The old MTS trolleys. What a throwback! When did they retire them? I was born in 2005 and I remember seeing them for a while, but then stopped seeing them...
2 more memories! When downtown San Diego wasn't a quiet zone! I miss that! Also the 15th street crossing in Del Mar wasn't a quiet zone!
I like train videos videos on UA-cam 👍
On the Burlington Northern, and the Santa Fe!
