Amtrak P42DC Locomotive Fleet: 1 - 207

- With Amtrak’s 50th anniversary in 2021 and the retirement of the Genesis series of locomotives on the horizon, I thought it would be fun to put together a special video with scenes of every single Amtrak P42DC locomotive I’ve ever caught on video. Over the years, I’ve managed to capture most of Amtrak’s P42 fleet. In this video, we will go through the P42DC locomotive roster, starting with locomotive 1 and going all the way to number 207. Accompanying each featured locomotive will be a build date retrieved from rrpicturearchives.net, a train name, and a location.

The P42s are truly workhorses. They never get a break, and go all across the country nonstop
sucks that they are retiring these, they look and sound good. that first clip i believe i watched it about 10 years ago, in fact i watched a couple of your videos 10 years ago. coming back to this channel brings back memories
I believe 1 was the first to operate on a side route from the NEC. Might have been the Keystone. Funny how I was **just** watching AmtrakGuy365's P42DC episode! Have a great weekend, Mike!
Hi there
47 was destroyed in 2018 when it crashed into a CSX train in South Carolina in 2018. It was the lead engine of the Silver Star bound for Miami that day. It has been scrapped.
Fun Fact: 1-120 originally had Phase III, 121-123 originally had Phase IV, 124-170ish had Phase Va, and 170ish-207 haven't gotten a new scheme, staying in Vb
Actually engines 101-111 where delivered in phase 4 and assigned to trains in the northeast
Another fun fact: AMTK 46 was painted for the 50th anniversary because Joe Biden became the 46th president. There was talk of Joe Biden taking the train to DC just like Obama in 2009 and possibly 46 would be on that train, but after the insurrection at the capital, Biden chose not to take the train to his inauguration. But he took the train to celebrate Amtrak's 50th anniversary.
At least, that's what I heard.
A very random person I love your videos
1-100 were delivered in Phase iii. 101-111 where delivered in Phase IV NEC Variant 121-123 had Phase IV some units were repainted into early Phase V but not all units. They early phase V units were scattered. The rest of the P42s were delivered in Phase V.
174-207 phase 7
This is cool!! ❤️
9 has always Ben my favorite P42 tho along with 59 116 and 61!They all pull trains close to where I live!
For some reason *i used to* have a dislike on the P42s. (i don't remember why) but then i started liking them and are *one of my favorite* Amtrak locomotives. hopefully they'll be down in SoCal one last time.
Great compilation video CF!!
For me i think it's the phase V paint shceme, it really doesn't do them justice.
@@freddysanders2826 for me it's the opposite. The Amtrak phase v livery on the P42DCs made those locomotives look sleek for me, and the blue and silver with the red stripe looked great and matched well with the cars imo
Nice. When these retire, the ALC-42s are going to carry the torch the P42s once carried. Farewell P42s!
yeah but better!
It'll be a while before we see the P42/P40 units go bye bye you know, especially since we now have some that were repainted and refurbished as 50th anniversary Heritage Units
@@RohrbachNotDiscovered I know
The P42s are a huge icon for amtrak
@@RohrbachNotDiscovered yea siemens has some work to do to replace 207 p42's and that will effect most routes and the sunset limited the only routes it won't effect is the Acela express and the NEC and the first leg of the silver meteor(New York to Washington DC cause it's electrified over head pantograph exists) the rest of it though that's where the ALC-42's will come in handy since the second leg of the silver meteor(Washington DC to Miami) is non electrified(overhead pantograph doesn't exist on second leg of silver meteor)
You know those type of trains are still there to this day
This is now all my 3 year old son watches before bed. He loves your videos soo much and gets excited at every new train!! Thank you so much for the videos. I can't tell you how much I love and look forward to Coasterfan and Cuddles ❤
Watching it with my 3 year old son now 😂
Great video! I recently made a Amtrak genisis compilation because it's my All-time favorite amtrak locomotive. Also, I filmed like an endless pile of P42s
Thank you! Guess we had the same idea!
That's right
Who still remember cayce train collision with p42 number 47 that was in the collision with CSX 3 years ago in the east heading to Miami and it was scrapped they can't repair because of the nose damage and also the two crew members of amtrak as well still sad that they died instantly
I do, and I pretty much knew right off the bat that the locomotive was a write off.
1:09:10 I love the way Amtrak 171 came to the station.
Keep up the good work
I’m not ready for the P42 to leave. This locomotive was my childhood
Same
Kind of the same thing for me. I think it would be cool if Amtrak donated a few of these to Museums. We could remember and learn about the story of one of Amtrak’s mighty workhorse locomotives: The Genesis Series.
28:08 65 is also in a scrap yard now, believe it or not but it’s coupled to 85 while sitting in a scrap yard
22:01 haunts me every time when I think of the accident with AMTK 47 and a CSX autorack train
I know. But that incident is blamed on miscommunication on the CSX conductor. He said the switch was realigned to the main when it wasn't.
Amazing hard working and amazing K5LA’s. Will definitely miss these big girls. 😢
what a beautiful scene at 18:32!
Hop to see more videos like this on the P40s and P32s. 👍
158 has a good horn salute. And all the others and I like every single train
Great documentation of the P42s! Lots of great NF K5LAs too!
3:06 that is one hell of a consist!!
This is a fantastic catalog of the P42's. Thanks Mike!
P42DCs are one of my favorites. Awesome video as always. Though it's a long one!
Nice video! It’s crazy how you saw all these p42 locomotives and put them in correct order going from 1-10 in one video. Great work Mike!
Yes indeed. The only one missing from 1-10 is engine 8, but that engine has since been scrapped after being involved in a very serious accident in Chicago back on November, 2007. Front end completely smashed when it rear ended a parked stack train in the near south side.
Engine 66 also will be scrapped because it got hit by a truck
@@PatrickDoran2319 indeed it will be.
@@SoCalOCRailfan I guess you could say Amtrak is giving the command Execute Order 66
Awesome capture my friend
Awesome long docu with beautiful videos of the trains!
number 11 has a nice horn
193 also has a nice horn, so do 27, 28, 34, 35, 58, 70, 72, 74, 79, 88, 90, 91, 102, 132, 135, 147, 152, 172, 197, 200, and 204
Number 29 was last seen in 2018 according to RR picture Archives, 70 was last seen in 2016, 80 was wrecked in 2011 and possibly scrapped, 128 and 141 have been stored since 2013, 143 and 149 were wrecked and scrapped in 2001, 178 is currently stored and last seen running in 2017. All the other units you haven't caught on video are still operating in 2020/2021
Excellent, thanks for that info. As someone from across the pond who watches these locos on VR and make notes, wondered what happened to ones ive not seen and that has answered for some of them.
Number 29 was working yesterday. Was seen at Flagstaff at 23:57. Maybe been released back into traffic.
Hi it’s me from instagram i’ve been a Coasterfan for the past five years and I would like to say keep up the great work.
Thanks so much!
42!
You are so lucky to have seen the bulk of the P42 fleet all multiple times. I wish KC had more of an Amtrak presence. though with siemens now, it doesnt matter.
i bet the audience retention on this video will be fantastic
With the amazing quality, this long video sure will do great
It's better than you might think, believe it or not!
wow lol
to be fair i probably watched for a good 10 minutes or so
Coasterfan 2105 your the best youtuber
In my opinion the p42's that stood out to me are 50 90 146 and 201 because there equipped with EMD bells
Yeah, I noticed that too.
Me too!
Cool hearing horn differences on the locomotives. Raised letter K5LA’s, 90’s K5LA’s, K5L’s, and more!
Counting amtrak engines is fun
29:30 *N I C E*
hi i like the caltrans F59ph paint job and i what one in ho scale dcc also i love your channel and i live in ceres California in the valley
My favorite modern Amtrak locomotive!
I sure miss seeing the P42s. I remember listening to their swoosh and great roars.
34:10 I love the horn
I hope at least one or two P42DC locomotives are preserved.
Not all of them
@@vexv2k66_-3 I shall scrap the scrappers if they scrap them
@@sebastianfloyd372 there's 207 p42s what they gonna do with all of them?
Only fewer P42DCs remain in service. 47 was involved in the Cayce, SC, rail disaster in 2018 and has been scrapped due to moving in a siding too fast, resulting in the destruction of a CSX train that was sleeping in the siding and got hit by the Amtrak train. Sad to see those P42s go… :(
@@tom-and-mom It appears as if most people are ignoring the fact that 8 is seemingly skipped in this video. It was apparently involved in a rear-end incident in 2007.
Amazing video! P42s are my favorite passenger locomotive and will always be!
Thank you!
That horn tho on 12:58
47 wecked at Caycee, SC accident.
Thanks Mike! The p42 that stands out to Me the most is amtrak p42 #135. Thank you so much!
I’ve seen couple of the P42DC locomotives including 156, which was sadly scrapped. I really am gonna miss the only locomotives that were in the Texas Eagle many years from now. If I go back to Mineola just to see the P42DC, I really will cry. Goodbye P42DC locomotives, I really am gonna miss you guys. 😢
Had #42 on a Sunset Limited in August 05 back to LAX. I still have pic of it in a photo album with Phase V paint.
Also had #5 leading and #14 trailing on a Sunset Limited back in September 2010 back to LAX, we were extremely late because we hit a car near Tornillo, TX at like 70 MPH and killed the school principal in it.
Oh my goodness! you made it! thank you so much, you are my favourite UA-camr!
I will never say no to a amtrak p42dc because its my favorite train I wish they dont be scrap I want them in our world I hope they dont be retired ever ever in my life they are the best trains ever
Parabéns..
Um nobre trabalho de estudo e determinação.
Siga em frente.
Agora acrescente as novas gerações de P-42 genesis.
50 anos.
Particularmente, a locomotiva lifesaver rouba a cena das câmeras.🤜🤛
Nice Video Mike
15:09 Now that looks like the Modern Amtrak Desert Wind if you ask me. 😀😀☺☺☺
Actually, I believe in the last days of the Desert Wind, there were pictures of the train having a full consist with two locomotives a baggage car, multiple sleeper cars, a dining and lounge car and multiple coach cars just like on the CZ. Even so, yeah the train's consist often looked like that.
@@harrisonofcolorado8886 I see that
This is an absolutely fabulous video! As usual, you are to commended on your filming work! I really enjoy them! Superb job!
I LOVE AMTK 197! It's my favourite! 197 has the best Hybrid K5LA ever!
No, it has a Classic Nathan K5L horn.
Everything about these makes them the coolest trains ever. Well for me, they’re tied with the chicago f40ph metras
I am really going to miss them! 93 is my favorite!
40:22 the P42 that was found on the hudson line in new york.
I think the P42's should get an overhaul
Thanks for the video. Watching as I install digitrax decoders in my n scale p42 fleet (97, 150,150, 161).
I love the p42s
wonderful video with good information. Greetings from Switzerland
wow! This has to be the best Amtrak Video Ever made!! Awesome Job Mike!!
Thank for sharing.nice
Like 169 awesome compilation with the Amtrak P42DCs. Imagine 1 dislike in this beautiful footage.
My favorite Amtrak locomotives alongside the F40PH. Such a shame that these engines are going away, but you know times are changing and that’s when new engines like the ALC-42 have to be brought in to replace older ones.
Grand Canyon RR is great cuz of their F40's I reccomend
Grand canyon railroads f40ph's are actually f40-fh
Just saw my first set of venture coasters in the Chicago Yard :)
I sure miss the Pacific Parlor Cars on the Starlight!
P42dc #74 has one of the best horns ever!
I remember having 117 and 59 on city of new Orleans when we got on in jackson
Nice 👍! Happy 50th Anniversary!
Pog
59:15 hubba hubba, my favorite P42DC
crazy to think how these can go from one part of the us to the other in no time.
Looking forward to riding behind some P42s in September on the Starlight. I'm planning to get some on board shots of them climbing Cuesta Grade. Love number 197. She has a beautiful K5L and I rode behind her last year. Gonna miss thesr units when they're retired. Catch 'em while you can!
Great video and compilation. Thanks for the hard work.
I saw almost all of the p42dcs
Always a great Video 👍😁
i'm taking Amtrak number 1 on the sunset limited on august 25th to houston and taking train 2 to lafayette on the 31st
that's a round trip travel and my 2nd and 3rd trip on amtrak
To be honest Amtrak should’ve kept that original phase v on 123-169 because that was unique.
Nice Video Mike! :) 👍❤️
28:32 Rest In Peace AMTK 66
@WestFieldPlayz - 100 Vids Strong! it cost money to repair AMTK 66 so they had to scrap it
@WestFieldPlayz - 100 Vids Strong! And 156 AMTK got scrapped two why??? They had to scrap AMTK 156 And 66 it cost money
31:22 31:32 31:41 31:43 I love that horn on Amtrak 74
Awesome video! I couldn’t wait for this one
Nice video I loved this so freakin much I watched this everyday thanks for making this!
Honestly I’m surprised you got footage of all of the P42’s! My favorite P42 actually isn’t a heritage unit but its 132 since I love its horn
10:12 4.2 RONDA MURALLA (SINDICATOS)-HULA (POR GANDARAS) 6308 JPT
Wonderful video with beautiful train footage. I'm glad you devoted the time and energy to creating this video. Thank you!
A saw too p42dc this summer in Santa fr sping
31:27 and 17:54 are the engines that were in the Joplin MT wreck
Since my first Amtrak video from October 10th, 2020, I've spotted a total of 8 regardless if it's a P42DC or P40DC. 2 from my first time railfanning Amtrak, 2 for the ALC-42 delivery, and 4 for the most recent Amtrak railfanning. 7 P42DCs and a P40DC.
Great video! ;)
Thanks! :)
@@CoasterFan2105 ;)
Amazing video!
Great video!
This was a very awesome video CoasterFan2105. Sure I love the F40PH a lot more but now I have an even greater respect for the General Electronic Genesis Series P40DC,P42DC and the P32-DM.
Thanks for all the hard work on this one!!
Amtrak p42dc is my favorite train
58 ran in Texas Eagle. 157 is Heartland Flyer’s Big Game Train
Great job!
