@Bherman0578 I had to do that with lamb. I only ate the lean cuts to start in small quantities and gradually added the lamb fat in. I now love lamb. They say eat something 7 times to develop a taste for it. It took more than 7 for me, but it did work. I imagine that's how we learned to eat carbs as kids. I am going to leave this nugget here…
I was carnivore and in the main carnivore community for 22 months (oct 2019-July 2021) and lost 64lbs yayyyy. The last 7 months of those 22 months I had stalled-boooo.
I will also add that I am a bulk eater who has an addiction to feeling full.
Everyone in the carnivore community in 2021 preached ‘eat when hungry, stop when full’. I was in all the big groups-zeroing in on health, zero carb, and a few others.
Anytime I mentioned my stall people would say it takes time it takes time keep eating, and again the mantra-eat when hungry, stop when full.
I left carnivore to start counting calories along with eating keto, and was able to lose the rest of my weight.
I’ve now lost 180 Lbs and have maintained that for over 1 year while eating low carb and watching my calorie intake.
This video makes me both happy and sad. Happy that those who are new to carnivore now are open to people eating less, and sad because when I needed to hear this, it wasn’t the trend so I had to leave for my weight health.
Regardless I’m thankful that you are discussing this very important topic.

OMG! I'm Ottis!! I have been round and round the hamster wheel with this question throughout my entire 8 year journey on Carnivore. The only real weight loss I have experienced has been very Very VERY slow.
    Backstory
Much like Ottis, I am a rescue dog - Born violently allergic to milk - breast, cow, formula, all things baby diet was a recipe for extended stays at the children's hospital. Born 8lb 4oz but soon found my way down to 4lbs. I was born into a life of starvation. To this day I cannot get enough food. I have no off button with carbs- pasta, rice, etc. Animal products? Only physical discomfort can dissuade me. I was fed a slurry of MAZOLLA OIL (yes they prescribed it by name), beef, rice OR wheat, AND SUGAR! Overweight as long as I can remember. My brothers would be greeted with how's hockey? How's school? I got OMG you're getting fat! Ahh memories. (See self loathing below)
    Symptoms
    Patient presents with the following:
*Morbid obesity - only one in my fam.
*Severe Carb addiction - in the absence of carbs, alcohol cravings rise
*Volume addiction. I crave that feeling of a FEAST
    *Depression. Undiagnosed
    *Self loathing
    *Stress & Anxiety
    *Anger Issues
    *Cortisol addiction
    *Sleep apnea. CPAP
    *Insomnia. 2-4 hours
*Chronic perspiration, arthritic knee, lower back pain, skin tags, dandruff, allergies. All significantly improved while eating carnivore, and yet I still struggle to stay on track. Slow results have left me listless in my resolve.
    Environment:
House full of carbs. Zero support from family or friends. (Zero = trying to undermine me as proof that this woe is wrong. That was they can still eat carbs without feeling guilty or acknowledging that perhaps it's their diet that has caused their own ailments: T2D, Morbid obesity, severe inflammation, stroke, high blood pressure, joint pain, trigeminal neuralgia, HBP, etc. )
    DIAGNOSIS: Acute Ottis-a-litis
I could never discern between the conflicting messages:
    Eat all you want
    Eat all you can
    Eat less for weight loss
    Eat 80%+ fat
Eat less fat - force your body to burn your own fat
Eat high protein to heal your body
Eat moderate protein to restrict insulin
    Eat OMAD or OMETD
Eat often to flood your body with nutrients and remove any sense of restriction
    CLEAR AS OTTIS POOP!
Thank you Kelly so much for your videos. They are truly helpful, meaningful, and relatable (That was in no way sarcastic and meant to be very sincere)

It seems to me that you are a beautiful one of a kind special individual who has had a rough start in life that determined the rest of your life. But I believe that if you keep going you will get the right answers and the way that works for you. Like this fantastic video for instance.
I have the luxury of living alone and withdrawing myself from social gatherings whilst in the middle of figuring out what works for me. Had no idea I would ever say this, but I am an undereater on Carnivore. So from today on upping my fat intake and see how that goes. But when I look at the list of symptoms that have gone away already, I feel so much better and weightloss isn't number one priority, its about healing.
Take care and don't let them bully you, one day you will figure it out and they will all be asking for your advice and guidance.
lots of love and the Carnivore community has your back!

look into a parasite cleanse! Vets know that if a pet is overeating or under eating (gaining weight or under weight they have parasites. These parasites can be visible in the bell (aka worms) or microscopic parasites (not visible to the eye).
for parasite info see channels Dr Berg, dr group, dr axe, brenda watson road to perfect health, candida eric bakker naturopath (his old chan name but, this will get you to his chan), Dr Ken berry etc.
parasites are huge issues with humans & pets.
library will have books on this.
local health food store will have the herbs to take. there are different protocals such as 10 days on parasite cleanse herbs then 5-7 days off then 10 on etc for 90 days. Why 90 days? because herbs & Rx for parasites dont kill the eggs so you have to do a cleanse for 90 days to kill off all the parasites. The whole family including pets should do a cleanse.
also look into opening up your lymph pathways and heavy metal detox. Fro opening up your pathyway see channel Dr Mindy pelz and her vids on heavy metals. for heavy metals see chan dr group, dr axe, candida eric bakker naturopath (also see his vids on SIBO, candida, h pylori, gut issues)
seriously look into these. It might be that you picked up a bad bacteria/virus/parasites when you were in your mothers belly or at the hospital that is still causing you health issues.
      take care.

Hang n there! Focus on ruminant meat and fat. If you can eat pork, the fat is very satiating also, in my opinion. Keep researching and watching videos, reading books like The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholtz or Gary Taubes books, and watch every carnivore video you have time for. Dr. Berry, Dr. Elizabeth Bright, Dr. Hampton, Dr. Baker Carniverous me on UA-cam are also some of my favorites. Once you understand how damaging starchy carbs and sugars are for your body, this will reinforce your efforts. Carb loving bacteria in the gut must be starved out. These bacteria communicate with our brain through the vagus nerve. No cheat meals. If you slip, get right back on carnivore. No blaming yourself. Be your own best friend. Reward yourself with good health and better mood.

I find there's 2 types of satiety. There's stomach full, and food isn't appetizing type. Carnivore usually does the second one, but a lot of people don't have the right hormonal or something balance for that to kick in, and instead eat until stomach full, which with meat, is fat more calorie dense for the volume.. so they can add fat. Try to eat more protein and a bit less fat than keto ratios and try to keep it reasonable. I like to add some non-starchy veg to bulk up the food sometimes, but it works for me.

You have to embrace that feeling I call "cheetah mode". You've eaten very little, but ketosis has dulled your hunger to where it is just a reminder that you are running on belly fat and not on burger patties. Eventually the feeling grows into real hunger and the cheetah catches a gazelle; likewise you'll eventually have that chicken drumstick. But not until you've spent some of that onboard fat fuel.

Now all I know is I’m eating somewhere about 3 pounds of 88/12 ground beef, some aged white cheddar cheese and no longer add salt or electrolytes. Even though I’m full of energy I have drastically cut back on the amount of exercise I am doing. Everything has finally come together 100% I’m satisfied with my food, I no longer have cramping issues and my body is still recomposing. I wish everyone else good luck finding their sweet spot.

I’ve been carnivore for 9 years now, and have never tracked calories. To me, the important thing is not when to stop eating, but when to start. By that I mean that it doesn’t matter how much I eat at any one meal, as long as I wait until I am hungry again before I eat again.
This morning, for instance, I had a huge breakfast, and it’s late afternoon now and I’m still not hungry. So I haven’t eaten anything else yet. If I had had a smaller breakfast, I would have gotten hungry by now, so I would have eaten. If I go to an all-you-can-eat barbecue place I will eat beyond stuffed. But that doesn’t mean I have overeaten, because I will not be hungry again for 24 hours or so.

I used to do OMAD and had my one meal for dinner. This was a real struggle for me.
One day I ate such a big lunch I wasn't hungry for dinner and the lightbulb went on. Instead of having the one meal at dinner have it at lunch. This has been life changing. It is almost effortless for me. I am not hungry at dinner time. I have a part of my brain nagging me for a few moments because of the routine of eating at dinner time. But if I just do something else I forget all about it. I am never hungry in the morning. So the only time I am feeling hungry is between about 11am and noon. Even then, it is not a ravenous feeling. I am just getting interested in having some food.
It might not work for everyone because of work and family schedules. Plus not everyone enjoys the same thigns.
But I do enjoy eating a big meal. I never feel "stuffed." Just very satisfied.
The other thing I do when I break my fast is I start with an "appetizer" to tame down any hunger before I eat lunch. the appetizer is always somethign very nutrient dense like sardines, cod liver, eggs, smoked salmon, canned mackerel...

Thank you for being a lantern in my path. 120lbs down and in stall since 4 months despite everything I try to do but holding on and not letting go. Just finished a 72 hrs fast and I feel better than ever. Thank you among many others who helped with their contents. Only regret I didn’t know of this so much earlier in my life.

I don't know what my deal is, I know I can't go to all you can eat buffets or be around a bunch of food at someone's house where a lot of people are eating bc I will stuff myself into oblivion. It is not a feeling I enjoy, I'm absolutely miserable afterwards, but it's like I can't stop myself. So I avoid these situations entirely

Holy dog! I’m like Otis. I have that you said VOLUME ADDICTION 😮 it makes sense. You and dr Lisa recommend me to do 80/20 fat/protein ratio at the NJ meatup, as my friend Marina always said too, I tried for a few days, but after eating I still hungry so I went back to 2-3 pounds of meat until I reached the highest weight 😢 the scale move a little bit watching the sunrise and sunset, grounding and exercise. But in October I’m in low protein high fat and less of 20g total carbs the scale is going better, because I got a glucose sensor and I discovered that too much protein was raising my glucose levels 😮 so I feel much better now 🎉

I wish it was as simple as this Kelly. I've tried every which way and I only lost a few pounds by intermittent omad fasting, but now it has stalled again. Let's face it, some large number of us will never fully succeed

mjdailamy, for stalls, have you tried buying fat trimmings from the butcher? Air-fryer or stove top to how crispy you like it. Eat that a few times during the day. OR, do a day or 2 of eating as many cans of sardines as you like. These are a couple of go-to plans for breaking stalls a bit

Adding more beef and pork fat into my carnivore diet helps with satiety, mood, sleep and energy. I use iodine drops, too. Movement of some kind is very important, too. For a person like me in my 70’s who exercises moderately, my caloric requirements are probably less. I think the RDA, as well as caloric requirements need to be revised for those of us on a a carnivore or ketogenic diet. We are getting so much more nourishment per calorie.

    Here's my recipe and instructions:
My local grocery store & Costco.
    4 ingredients
Hamburger - Costco 6.5 to 7 lb pack cut in half - one half per batch. I make 2 batches
Sardines in WATER - grocery store or Big Lots 4 cans (2 cans per batch)
Oysters in WATER - grocery store 1 can - 1/2 can per batch (I physically separate them in half by size to be equal after draining them)
Eggshells - dried and very finely ground.
    2 medium size bowls
    Food Processor
    Cookie scoop
    Rubber Spatula
Snack or Sandwich sized zip bags (depends on if the amt your SMALL dog eats fits in that size) (50-55 per each 2 batch prep)
    💥 MIX....
3 oz of beef or chicken hearts (chicken is waaaay easier - my husband grinds the beef heart f for me as I used to have to filet it as one dog is allergic to chicken)
3 oz of beef or calf liver
2 tsps of finely ground eggshells
1/2 can of oysters IN WATER
2 cans of sardines IN WATER
.... into the Food Processor and blend
    💥 Add to first bowl
    💥 Repeat
    💥 Add to second bowl
💥 Add 1/2 of the hamburger meat broken up into pcs in first and other 1/2 into the other bowl
💥 Mix as you would for making meatloaf.
💥 Scoop two cookie scoops into each snack bags and zip closed after all bags are filled.
💥 Lay into box that works for your freezer size and can handle 50-55 bags. I use a New Balance shoe bag.
💥 Put in freezer and take out bags of meals to the the day before you need to use them.
💥 I even put a 1 cup pyrex measuring cup of water in the microwave for 45 secs them put the two snack bags in them for a bit to warm the patties up before putting into their metal food bowls.
💥 Wash bowls after every meal.
    My dogs are 12 - 15 lbs.
I use 2 cookie scoops per snack sized bags and get about 50-52 bags filled in total from the 2 batch prep.
It takes me approximately 1 to 1.5 hrs on a day before trash day. Once every other week.
Set up a small plastic grocery bag where you prep to immediately put trash in after use (i.e. sardine & oyster cans and paper towels used).
I use the cabinet above my work area to hang one handle of the bag between the two joining cabinet pulls.
Always wipe down your countertops with antibacterial spray.
I even pick a clean paper towel off to open the dishwasher handle with, to put rinsed off Food Processor parts into for cleaning after I'm done.

Greetings from Spain.

I'm going to let you know there is another theory, and what I believe is the correct theory about metabolic disease, but most people don't understand it.
It's what I call the "fructose/survival pathway" theory of obesity and metabolic disease.
This is Dr. Richard Johnson's theory. It says that fructose consumption causes metabolic changes to our body to help us survive the winter famine our ancestors faced every year. Our ancestors ate fruit in the fall, and the fructose cause us to change our metabolism, and helped us gain a few pounds so we could survive until food became available again.
I have studied Johnson's work extensively, and everything he says makes evolutionary sense. It explains why we crave fructose so much, it explains why animals, like bears and birds eat fruit to gain fat and change their metabolism to migrate or hibernate; it explains why our ancestors ate starches for thousands of years without getting metabolic disease; it explains the different metabolic pathways of glucose and fructose; it explains why diabetes and fructose consumption is perfectly correlated among populations; and it explains why evolutionary thougth and history are important factors to be considered when analyzing biological sciences.
The possible reason Ben Bikman does not understand Dr. Johnson's theory is because he is a scientist, and he may not be interpreting his ideas through an evolutionary perspective.
Bikman is a Mormon, and Mormons are notorious for being creationists. He may not accept Dr. Richard Johnson's research into fructose and it's evolutionary survival benefits.
I think it's important for people to understand Richard Johnson's work. Nicholas Horowitz is figuring it out, and talking a lot about it...
I wrote a book called "Cavemen Weren't Fat" where I explain Richard Johnson's work, and go into great detail why fructose consumption is the real main driver of metabolic disease.

I’ve been both Otis and Millie. But now I may be a Kelly with a twist of veggies 😂
I’m high meat based nutrition eater that throws in some veggies that I can tolerate sometimes. It just depends. Going on 5 years. I started out on keto. 133 lbs down. Up 10-15 lbs as well as down 10-15 lbs. I’m a scale user. That’s what has always helped ME to discern and look at what I ate over 48 hours. Things that could potentially be problematic for me.
We used to do celebration get togethers by going to a restaurant. While every now and then we still do, I don’t find joy in eating the way I used to. I love the people and catching up. But the food? Eh
When I started paying attention to my eating habits, I found myself feeling pretty much neutral when I ate. Feeling about the same before, during and after eating. That’s when everything changed for me. When I’m TRULY hungry, I enjoy the foods that I choose to eat to refuel my body with and give it the nutrients it wants. I have foods on repeat like Kelly. When I want something different, I change it up. Weird how that “on repeat “ thing works.
Thank you Kelly! Very informative and shows people a lot of different approaches they can try. 👏🏼👏🏼❤🕊️

🎉KELLY🎉 I have a Dachshund and Dachshuaua... meaning more Dachshund than Chihuahua!
First, you gotta know about Dr Karen Becker (on UA-cam)--she is to pets as all our Carnivore Drs are to people! She's been an integrative and holistic Vet for decades and is an Animal Angel on Earth. She has hundreds of free videos on just about every subject. I've learned so much from her!
Next, I'll post what I now feed my two... all of it with directions. Mine are between 12-15 lbs and get walked about 1/2 mile per day for exercise, so you can guage to yours in weight and activity level.
She originally added ground flaxseed, ground raw pumpkin seeds, blueberries, basil, kelp powder and chicken wings (which I am too gunshy to feed still so I finely grind the eggshells and add them instead), but unless blueberries are in season...I don't use any of these ingredients anymore just strict Carnivore.

Hi Kelly. I am a 61 year old and I have RA. I started keto around three years ago and went mostly carnivore for the last two years. I have decided that I need to go back to tracking my meals because I have been gaining a bit of weight after losing 50 lbs. Over the summer, I kinda got in the habit of snacking on bacon and pork rinds. Apparently, Otis and I share a few things, lol. So I am doing my best to track, weigh and measure what I eat, and get back to mindfully eating, not mindlessly snacking. I also have an issue where it takes my stomach a while to signal the brain that it's full. So I am try to eat slowly as well, and give my stomach time to communicate with my brain. I am mostly sedentary, I work a desk job, and most of my exercise comes from working in my yard during the summer. In the winter, I always feel tired and achy, and I am not as active. I guess I am saying that I am one of those people who need to track their eating and not just nibble whenever the urge hits or they are bored. 💖💖💖

Thank you for this video it gave me a lot to think about. I am not the calories in calories out camp. Because there seems to be an assumption that all calories are the same and your body responds to them the same. That being said calories are the measurement we use for volume or amount of food. However there are other things to consider when adjusting food intake. I thought your, whatever you said it was called, chart was brilliant. I appreciate the thought you clearly put into this and how you simplified something that could be made complicated.

A touchy subject indeed! Thanks Kelly and well done on a wonderfully succinct, and comprehensive look at a very important subject. This has certainly been my experience as a strict carnivore for 6 years.

Since I have started carni for about 6 months now I track calories and struggle to eat enough. Some days I cannot eat more than 500 calories. The food just won't go down and I feel terrible eating more!!! This is a real struggle. I am never ever hungry. I used to eat 3000-4000 calories before carnivore a day but now it is the opposite! And my hunger signals are no longer a growling stomach. Hunger translates into extreme fatigue. This has never happened to me! This has been a huge adjustment!!! Oh! Yah! And I take 45 minutes to eat my food. I used to wolf food down but no longer. This is weird!!!
