Very true
The fact that gene is transparent shows he’s there in spirit
I believe Gene would be pleased with this. He felt a great responsibility to honor Willie Wonka because children loved him so.
@@cards0486gene didn’t want a prequel at all
@@Q2inn way to poop on a party
@@NotTelling-xs4rvHe’s not lying though.
@@Q2innhow do you know? If anything, if he saw the film I’m sure he would have appreciated it. The movie was well written and showed respect to his character
This movie was such a love letter to the original. The entire production made sure of it, especially with it being a homage to Gene Wilders performance. An absolute masterpiece of cinema in every way.
I agree 100%!
Did you know that Gene Wilder didn’t want a prequel or a sequel. But the movie was still really good.
@@user-iw6jv2sf9c where did he say that? :0 just curious because there literally was a sequel in the book that it was based on hahaha. Willy wonka and the glass elevator
It was in an interview I think the one during 2012
@@user-iw6jv2sf9c Im pretty sure he was only talking about the remake, the 2005 one in paticular because he didnt like Tim burtons dark take on it. you can correct me if im wrong and you find the quote.
this is so amazing, it even looks like Gene is looking at Tim as a kinda, "it's your turn now, make me proud"
I know, I'm very happy with how that turned out, thank you :)
Gene would like this. He hated the other version.
Tim’s wonka made me hate Johnnys so much more than I already did

I must admit, my eyes watered up when he began to sing that song at the end of Wonka. All the way through the film, you would hear a few notes of it and I thought that was all we were getting. The boom.
Suddenly the loss of Gene Wilder hit me all over again
Timothee has a lovely softness to his voice. My grandson and I have been to the cinema to see it twice now,. Its brilliant but like most I grew up with Gene Wilder and therefore introduces my daughter to it. They are difference enough to have both in your DVD library.
I was expecting the new movie to be an all out prequel, but I think it works really well on it's own. I'd like to see a Chalamet version of the original story when he's a little older.
Wonka is going to be out on DVD in a few days and I look forward to purchasing it!
Was hesitant about how this Wonka would come across but absolutely loved it. My favourite. Took my granddaughter to see it twice and bought video. She loves everything about it. ❤
We love you Gene & Tim
R.I.P. Gene Wilder
You'll be in our heart of imagination
And our Willy Wonka
The best part was the Coin flip into the hole in his pocket. Because it falls into a storm drain and later on we know Charlie finds the same silver sovereign and uses it to get his golden ticket.
Gene Wilder version will all ways be Pure Imagination😢😭🥺❤😍🥰
Always and forever will be
I think Chalamet did a marvelous job
@@marcimarczyk6468woke Wonka 👎
@@Super_Nofriendo I'm confused. How was he woke wonka? I didn't read into any wokeness in the new version, it was very in line with the books.
Don’t forget what happened to the man who suddenly got what he wanted… Live Happily Ever after
Saw the movie today. Was very pleased by Timothy's portrayal. Gene is looking down proud I'm sure.
The way they built up Pure Imagination in the new movie was so good. Made me almost shed a tear in the theater when I first saw it. Brought back many memories as a kid
I would like to think he would approve.
This is not comparing them, its a beautiful duett from the past to present times!
That’s how I read it. The younger self is creating and the older self is reflecting.
Doesn't sound like the original Gene Wilder though. :(
@@phlippbergamot5723 he raised Gene's pitch a little, to match the higher pitch of the newer version of Pure Imagination.
I agree it's so lovely
Told my Mom I was going to see this movie. She said ‘Aren’t you a little old to be seeing Willy Wonka?’ 😮
Never. If we close off the parts of our childhood that made us happy, we will never be happy as adults. ❤ I’ve seen all three adaptations and they are all wonderful in their own way.
And what a wonderful version Wonka was!
oh I got that response from a friend the other week when I said that I want to see it myself. I'm so not interested in seeing anything in the cinemas these days so happy to wait though. Totally agree... so important to still be in touch with our child-ness, the wonder... "If we close off the parts of our childhood that made us happy, we will never be happy as adults." perfectly said.
never too old
Anyone who asks/says you’re too old for stuff from your childhood didn’t truly enjoy their childhood.
Willy Wonka is ageless. Gene and Tim are totally awesome.
I went to see the Gene Wilder one when I was a kid, when it first came out, and i was EXTREMELY doubtful of the need for a prequel (never bothered with depps, he looked so creepy).
Within the first two minutes of Wonka 2023 I knew I'd love it and i did. Timmy Chalamet was fine casting and his singing was 70s movie worthy❤❤😊.
BTW did you know the original plan was to dub in a singer for Gene Wilder but when he did the scene they realized his voice fit just perfectly?
I've seen it 6x in theatre.....who else is loving this iteration??
Well, I didn’t think Johnny looked creepy at all. But I agree that Gene Wilder was more genuine. As for Timotheé, I haven’t seen his version properly because it was only through trailers. So I don’t really have a say in the matter yet but from what I’ve seen so far, he looks great too.
Twice myself. I even got the plastic popcorn bucket Wonka hat and Wonka tin box.
Johnny’s Wonka is more book accurate and hates dem kids
I have seen the different versions. I still like the 1970s version a lot, kind of liked Johnny Depp version, but enjoyed Wonka a lot. But I already like musicals a lot. I wish this version was on Spotify. I listen to the songs from the soundtracks on there.
Absolutely agree. The original movie is one of my favorite movies of all time, and Wonka absolutely captured the magic of it. Timothee Chalamet did such an incredible job as Willy Wonka and everyone involved did amazingly with the movie, Probably my fav film of 2023!
HUGE shoes to fill...but boy did Timothée do it. I sobbed without shame when he sang this at the end of the new film. 🥲 Bloody awesome.
Great work Timothy, Gene Wilder would be proud
I’m sure gene was smiling from the heavens above
@@kingroykoopa642: I agree !!! ❤❤ 🥰🙂🙂😇🤍❣️❤️🤍❤️
Not sure if Gene would have liked it….he was fanatical about others not outdoing his version. He hated Johnny Depp’s version.
@@Cyannah117 Another easily forgotten hollywood recashing. Just like "Oz the great and powerful". Hollywood sucks at backstory movies. Gene would have felt the same way.
@@skydriver5709 Gene probably would've disliked the fact that they made Willy Wonka so nice in the movie Wonka
This is one of the most beautiful songs written for a motion picture.
Wilder made feel me what is it like to be a kid again while Tim made me feel the of joy being a father and sharing the same joy with my kids
Best comment
Rip gene wilder you made ours childhood great
There were a few moments in the film when Timothy captured Gene’s facial expressions perfectly! He truly portrayed this role with love and respect. It was wonderful!
Both were great. Timothee had the innocent voice and Gene had the mature voice.
Never knew what a beautiful voice Timothee had. Gene was magical as Wonka still one of my all time favourite movies.
I like how Tim's wonka is younger thus his is more bombastic. He is a young man with his entire life before him. A life of pure imagination waiting to burst from him. Genes is beautiful, but always hit me as sad. Even before the new one came out. He is a man at the end of his life. No longer looking to share his work with the world, but with one person to carry on his work after he passes on. Tim is excited about the life of pure imagination. Gene is sad he will have to live this perfect life. There is no life I know that compares to pure imagination indeed.
Now I'm imagining a passage with Gene Wilder's Wonka observing his factory as if remembering his early days in the business, singing the last verse with nostalgia.
Love both versions of this song..... I grew up with Gene, but absolutely love Timmy's version as well.... it brings new life to the song and I feel that Tim was able to keep the same childlike wonder that was intended for the song..... haven't watched Wonka yet, but this gives me high hopes for Timmy's performance
Highly recommend 🙂
I always thought Gene Wilder's line 'You can change the world... there's nothing to it' had an ellipsis there, inferring he wished that there WAS more to it, but, regrettably, there wasn't. This, to me, is evident in him virtually speaking that second clause under his breath.
This BLEND of these two wonderful "Wonkas" is truly fantastic!!! Loved them both!! Of course,.....there will NEVER be another Gene Wilder!! But Timothee Chalamet did do his memory justice!! Great Job!!! Can't wait to see the movie!!🤩🤩🤩🤩
This video isn’t about comparison but a duet singing the same song. Both did a great job!!!! It’s a beautiful song!
Idk why this brings tears of joy to my eyes…maybe because, as a child of the 70s, I have such fond memories of this movie…and the new Wonka so honors the original in its own unique way. Thanks, Gene and Timothee… ❤
Thank you to the individual who fused these two and published this! ❤
You're welcome :)
There were so many nods to Gene in the new one. I spent half of it crying.
The fact the book never fleshed Wonka out saddens me. Glad to see we got two version of Wonka's origins.
Rip Gene this is a very good send off for an amazing actor.
He said that he didn’t want a prequel.
@@TheMelonerProductions123or sequel
I won’t lie, I’ve always loved this song, this makes my heart dance 😊
This is how you revive a legacy character. Unlike Will Smith and Genie, Timothee put his ego aside (or the directors didn’t ego-cast) and became Wonka. He and Gene are still very different interpretations, but the spirit of the character is the same
This is lovely. I can see Timothee's voice aging into Gene's making the works in each just that much more complete.
Timothee deserves at least two movies..his energy was amazing the first time I saw it, imagine seeing all three wonkas on screen.that would’ve been wild🤣
I was very sceptical about Timothée at first, but I thought for what he had to accomplish for this particular film he did a pretty good job (especially since both Gene and Johnny weren't technically the protagonists of their respective movies). I wouldn't mind seeing a trilogy tbh, with the third being a new take on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as I don't really feel the new movie is SPECIFICALLY a prequel to the original, it very much feels like it's own thing.
@nathanmcgowran8898 not sure how they would do it but as long as they don't make a sequel to the chocolate factory movie(s).
@@Dremag_Gaming imagine in the next one they get him to look suspiciously close to Gene 🤣
I really wanna hear tim sing the original
Wilder's lines in this almost make him sound like a ghost or a memory that Tim is interacting with.
The Ghost of Wonka’s Future
I know... 👀
Why comparing? I think they’re both great in their own style.
I think it’s cool😊
I don’t think he’s comparing them. I think he’s combining them to make the ultimate version

The spirit of Gene is in the movie and is a tribute to him in a way

Timothees voice makes my heart sing!
I believe Gene Wilder is smiling in the world of pure imagination. 😊 I also believe he also smiled while watching the filming of the movie from the world of pure imagination. 🎦 🎥 🍿 😊
Love this, what a beautiful nod to Gene Wilder and the 1972 Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. I can see the scene that this takes place.
No. It's 1971.
WE MAKIN IT OUTTA THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY WITH THIS ONE! 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥
I personally like the blend of the two. Their voices sound great together! 👍🏽👍🏽
It doesn’t matter who sings this. This will always be my comfort song 😊
This is brilliantly done. I was skeptical about Wonka but enjoyed it. It was a delightful experience. We don’t talk about Burton here.
Finally saw this movie. Knew it was a musical from what people said but didn't know it would be singing songs from the original.
R.I.P Gene Wilder.
Thanks for the Pure imagination.
great job editing, it sounds as if Gene Wilder is singing from heaven .
Actually put tears in my eyes as I sang along - Well done this is good work, I knew Gene and he would have been impressed with your work.... 👍👍
If you genuinely knew Gene then that is one hell of a compliment. He is one of my biggest inspirations as an actor! ❤ Thank you so much!

I bet with all my soul. He would of truly loved that movie. I think of it as a tribute to him, the love the director put into every scene really put me into the Gene's willy wonka feel when I first saw it as a kid. I don't think any of them should get a bad rap or compare when all of them had a different view
Honestly the only thing the movie was missing was a small 'In Memory of Gene Wilder' at the very end. I would say the movie was way better than I expected, but it's not really surprising given that it's the same director as the Paddington movies.
I completely agree!
All your soul?
Are you sure?
@@AboveAnyOther I definitely mean it. I am sorry you don't like it. Hope the next one in a couple years reaches you though.
Brilliant! SO beautifully put together. I'm sure this kind of "collab" if you will, has been done before. But this is my introduction to it. Inspiring.
Thank you ❤
Wonderful tribute to Gene Wilder. Pure Imagination is one of the best songs ever written for a movie and Gene made it magic.
Chalamet was able to perfectly capture the younger spirit of Wonka and paying homage to Wilder's Wonka. Thanks for creating this duet.
It’s so beautiful
Rest in peace gene wilder.
Thanks for taking the time to create this! It’s beautiful!
Thank you. Was just a little idea I had one morning, that I put together in about a day. Wasn't expecting it to blow up like this 😂
@@nathanmcgowran8898People love Willy Wonka so if they see two of them they’re gonna wanna watch it I think
Gene Wilder gives the more eerie vibe of his version to his version of ‘Willy Wonka’, so did Johnny Depp while, Timothée Chalamet is happy, kind, and caring of his version of ‘Willy Wonka’. Timothée is just playing as the young Wonka before his trauma started to show, in ‘Charlie & The Chocolate Factory’.
This was truly a beautiful way to end the story ‘Wonka’. Wonka will always be one of my favourite movies as hoe beautifully written it is. How this song warms my heart when Wonka was looking at Noodle with a small smile when she walked toward her mother. Even those small details mean a-lot. So does the bright colours in this movie. The dude who made this movie come to life I want to just give a big hug rn.
This movie is just like out of a child’s fantasy, a dream.
Thank you, cast of ‘Wonka’ and Timothée Chalamet
❤🍫✨
Mr Chalamet did an amazing job. This movie is 100% worth seeing in the theatres.
Did you go
They are both amazing!❤
R.I.P gene Wilder you will be missed by all! 😭
we will miss gene wilder for sure! rip 1933 to 2016😇😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪
Gene wilder made pure imagination magical, no other could do better !!!
I remember watching the original in a psych ward. Majorly depressed and in a state of psychosis while suffering from withdrawl. I'd been a major alcoholic and was going nowhere fast. This song, especially "if you want to view paradise" was essentially the moment where i swore that i would get out of this misery and never be in that position again. 2 years later, and I'm clean without even a sip. I'm glad i went down the route that needn't an explanation. Want to change the world? Theres nothing to it 😊
What an amazing story. You are what this song is about!
@@patriciaalley1562 that's very sweet of u. Thanks! 😊
Gene Wilder may be dead but his classic role will never die
Timothee did an good job singing this song , big shoes to fill
This is why I liked the original film and the current one. Pure Imagination was a good song. Glad they brought it back. Thanks to anyone who reads this.
I was so hoping someone has done this. THIS sort of remix needed to be on the official soundtrack and would have been very welcomed in the end credits.
It’s as if they’re both looking out over the factory and walking together father - son style
And, now I'm crying. Beautiful!
I haven't even seen the film yet and I'm getting nostalgia waves that are just world ending! Holy smokes.... I miss my childhood....
I absolutely loved ❤❤❤❤ Gene Wilder
Their voices match beautifully. Timothee sound like Gene Wilder's son; looking forward to seeing the movie.
I saw it in theatre it's definitely worth seeing at the movies not just in dvd
I finally seen wonka I thought it was a great movie. If anyone knows gene Wilder his three favorite things in life was Broadway musicals and comedy. He would give this movie two thumbs up and five stars. The ending was a tribute to gene wilders view on what matters in life family and his dream of his chocolate factory.
Timothée’s 2nd verse is underrated, he takes the original song and puts his own energy and passion into it and the 1st verse is amazing as well it’s his own version explaining that you always need someone by your side.
They made like so many movies and books and all of them are fantastic. That's hard to do
i miss gene so much. he was the light of my childhood with his comedies
RIP Gene wilder
May you live in a real world of pure imagination❣️
It's like Timothee is singing with Gene's spirit❣️ 🥲☺️
Fantastic work from both the late Gene Wilder and the terrific Timothée Chalamet. Roald Dahl would be so proud of his creation.
We miss you G. Wilder
RIP GENE WILDER 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
'Wonka' pays homage to both the films that came before it, while also forging its own path.
when they started singing this in the new movie i got hit so hard by that nostalgia bomb
Looking at gene wilders sprit almost brought tears to my eyes because I miss him
I want to watch the new Wonka’s movie I love both of the earlier movies
Going to wait til easter before I see this new version hope its good.
It's better than you'd think
Both great ❤❤
El cantante original tiene una voz afinada y especial. Pero Timothy también lo hace bien.
You will be in the heart of imagination Gene Wilder
The younger version of Wonka is where it is him starting out his journey.
And the older version is where he achieved his dream.
The most perfect homage
If only we got to see and hear a duet between these two.
It would’ve been scrumdiddlyumptious.
Rest in peace Gene Wilder.
2 of the best Willy Wonka;s it makes my heart happy 😀😭RIP Gene Wilder
I love this song, very well done a wonderful tribute to Gene Wilder it is a beautiful song that brings back my childhood. Thank you for creating this. Gene Wilder and Timothée Chalamet's movies are perfect and should never again try to be replicated like the poor 2005 Johnny Depp version, he took a bad approach to portraying our beloved movie character.
'Replicated' my ass, the 2005 movie was put in the pipeline by Dahl's wife and daughter to be more accurate to the book, and they approved of the finished product wholeheartedly. Dahl HATED Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory because Quaker sold his vision out to advertise their candy line. Oh sure they told people Dahl wrote the script but he most certainly did not. Depp's take gets a bad rap and it is entirely unwarranted.
this song really hits me in the nostalgia
