I believe the 5 friends that helped him is a reason why he only passed out 5 Golden Tickets in the original
Yeah that makes sense
Oh I love that!!
I just realized, that when Wonka drops his sovereign in that drain (I believe it was a drain), Charlie finds that same sovereign in the future.
@@Coco_1958 i thought that too as soon as I saw that scene in the movie
@@EndBender I was kind of surprised.
I may not be the first to mention this, but how did Jessica cover every esoteric Easter egg in this movie, then skim right past the fact that Willy's Mom's note in the chocolate bar is written on a frickin Golden Ticket?!
I noticed immediately when I watched the 2023 film that Wonka drops a silver sovereign coin down the grate and in the original 71 film, Charlie finds a coin in the grate which allows him to buy the Wonka bar which leads to his dream of going to the factory. That hit me so hard. Because it's just perfect. Here Wonka is singing about his hatful of dreams and later a boy is going to find that coin and continue his dream.
I doubt that coin stayed in the sewer grate for 25 years without anyone finding it
@@seanlane5671 Fair point! But at least the symbolism is cool and a great hint at the 71 film.
After watching Wonka, I felt the same warm magical feeling inside as I did when I watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory all those years ago. I do like the updated version that Wonka brings to the screen and I believe in my heart the late great Gene Wilder would approve of his character evolution and perhaps maybe he would feel a little envious of this version’s success …
Agreed ❤
Agreed
@@rondolan7254 ikr
Gene wilder said when first made that he dident want sequels or prequels though, idk if he’s approve since they did wait till he died to make other plans for other works movies
Same….hopefully he’s watching down on it……hopefully he enjoyed the movie….
3:44 one of the key memories that I had from my childhood is Wonka related….
In 3rd grade we had a field trip planned for a stage production of Charlie and Chocolate Factory and ahead of the trip the theater company sent all the classes chocolate bars with a select few having golden tickets.
I was in an accelerated English class and was not present when the bars were initially passed out but my teacher saved me one. And as you can predict it had the golden ticket in it. It was so much like the movie - last bar with the last ticket, raising it up, my classmates crowding around me, my teacher urging me to run to another classroom to inform the field trip organizer that I was a golden ticket holder.
In the end the golden ticket got me all kinds of perks and extra backstage experiences on the field trip.
TO THIS DAY my mom has that golden ticket framed and hanging on my old bedroom wall next to all my other trophies and diplomas.
Your name is not Charlie right?😂
What a beautiful experience & memory.
Please tell us you are now a candy maker
I honestly want them to do one more. We got to see how Wonka got started but I really want to see what truly drove him to shutting down the factory. I know grandpa Joe explained it in the original but I think it would be fun to see him go though this. To see him bring the Oompa Lumpas to the factory and him starting to look for a successor. Bringing it back to the original. I know I’m dreaming but I would love to see more
I would love to see this too! Honestly, i was fully expecting to see what you’ve described in this film and was a little disappointed i didnt!
@@courtney8049 same here but in the same breath I’m glad they didn’t cram it in at the end. It really felt like what they wanted this film to be. The beginning of Wonka
And at the end of the trilogy shutter the factory
Seeing how successful this film has become, I believe there will be another one.
@@evoke2104 I hope there is.
9:33 Freddie Highmore's Charlie does the same thing in the 2005 movie, splitting a Wonka chocolate bar into pieces and sharing them with his family.
That was my favourite scene as a kid, cuz my family is so poor we split everything, let alone candy
So did Peter Ostrum, but the grown-ups didn't take his offer.
Let’s be honest - This broke the mold for this kind of project. I did not expect it to be as good as it is.
All I saw online several months ago was people triggered that Hugh Grant was playing an Oompa Loompa instead of a dwarf like the others. When I went to see it this afternoon, it made sense. They're a lot smaller so could've been played by anyone. 😊 Personally, I thought the movie was ok but that end gave me goosebumps.
Cause it’s not as bad as you thought but it’s still bad doesn’t make it good, it’s bad.
I really enjoyed this prequel. It kept me guessing how he’d get out of his predicaments, and wrapped up his allies’ stories nicely.
I was worried about this movie and didn’t see it in theaters. Just saw it on streaming and it was so precious!
splitting his mom's chocolate bar at the end is also a nod to the 2005 version when charlie splits his birthday bar with his family
Charlie does it in the original as well.
It’s also a nod to a movie that wonka will never live up to
@@lobo669z 😂💀
I am pretty sure that the reason that Willie Wonka has a boat in his factory is becuse in the movie Wonka it is revealed that he grew up on a boat, that is also problem the reason he has the little boat in the candy/chocolate store in Wonka.
Saw this last night and I really enjoyed it, really felt like this was a well done prequel to the original.
I still have "Scrub Scrub" in my head.😊 So fun!
I love how positive this channel is. I'm so sick of criticism, honestly even the constructive kind.
I loved this movie way more that I was expecting to, but here's one dark take I have on it: Between Scrubbitt's shady contracts and Slugworth's monopoly and manipulation, along with how he bizarrely punished Wonka and Noodle for opposing him by trying to drown them in the chocolate vault, the movie subtly explains where Wonka learned all his business practices later in life...
Even darker, people drank from the chocolate fountain...that Wonka and noodles was swimming. Wonka was not worried about people eating Augustus chocolates years later either...😂
@@vnemosi mean he did yell at Augustus to get out of the chocolate river which is one of the few times he actually raises his voice at the kids so he definitely was opposed to people swimming in his chocolate
Slugworth didn't have a complete monopoly. he was in a cartel with his 2 competitors
@@radrobd123that would then mean their criminal organisation has a monopoly. If apple and Samsung were to join together and practice a separate business together where they are the only and top competitors, it would be the same thing, a monopoly :)
@@PhynnlyJak. that's not a monopoly, then it's an oligopoly. a Monopoly is ONE entity, Mono means ONE.
I cried like a baby. I'm so happy this movie was good. Brought me back to my childhood.
After watching Wonka, I could not stop tearing up how much memories it brought back from the original movie 😢
Wait hold on I just realized Slugworth, Prodnose, and Ficklegruber are comparable to Rockefeller, Carnegie, and JP Morgan during the gilded age of America.
😮wow, deep
I think when slugworth and the others criticized wonkas hover chocolate in the beginning because it was overly complex foreshadowed why they enjoyed his mother's bar of chocolate so much, the simple purity of it.
That ending when he opened his mom’s chocolate… I just lost it. Especially since my mom passed last year. 😭😭
This is a wonderful movie. I hope everyone finds it over the holidays. It’s full of joy, and love, and loyalty, when we need these themes most
still have the soundtrack stuck in my head. been singing it everyday. such a good movie ❤
Wonka sharing chocolate reminds me of when Charlie shared his birthday chocolate with his family
9:33 this scene actually reminded me of when Charlie did the same thing for his family. And his mother’s message was printed on a golden ticket ahhhh my heart 😭😭😭😭
The scrubbits reminded me of the Thernadier from Les Miserables!
Yep, every little thing charged for.
I love how slug or fickle popper. Or I can't say their names cause I'm sick. But I love how each of them were standing at their respective poses and like each window. I just look so good
Calling a somersault "nearly impossible" and saying you can't make that happen in a movie full of insanely wonderous things happening is kind of crazy.
I think that makes it even more fascinating for whatever reason that it didn't work. But the step up step down part was enough for me, this somersault wasn't needed (especially because he was trying to appear as frail/older and then a somersault surprised the crowd and audience)
AS USUAL...JESSICA IS RIGHT AS ALWAYS!!! JESSICA YOU ARE A GODDESS I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE BACK!!!
I started tearing up at the end of this movie too 😢. It was as good as you say it was Jessica.
When I saw Scrubbit, the first thing I thought of was Sweeney Todd, which is my favorite musical, so that was amazing ❤
I'm in love with the Wonka movie.
I loved the original when I was a kid. So much happiness while watching this movie!
I'm also very surprised you didn't mention the golden ticket that was in wonkas mother's bar, and the way that kinda sets up why wonka uses 5 golden tickets.
1:19 as well as the costumes for the first two paddington movies.
there is a third one ??
@@artobaron399 Yep. Although King is only writing and executive producing it. The film is called Paddington in Peru and is slated for release by Studiocanal this November in the UK and by Sony Pictures in January 2025 in the US
I also almost cried at both Willy’s mother’s message and Pure Imagination.
Same!!!! I just came back from seeing it alone. I cried twice cause WHAT😂 had to get myself together before I left❤❤❤ great movie
I just saw it last night and I'm pretty sure i had a huge smile on my face during most of the movie. I have been playing the soundtrack on repeat. I wondered if they thought about doing the flip from the original movie. I'd definitely pay to see it again.
You did amazing breaking this down
How can you even know... You posted this before you even have time to watch the whole video
@@Mash-NLit’s called a opinion
And you did not get the point..@@Cedsoncole
@@Mash-NLCLEMONS ALWAYS DELIVERS CUZ ITS ALWAYS CLEMONS TIME!!!!!! 🧚🏽♀️✨️💐
Jessica you don't have to go alone to the movies. I will gladly take you out. ❤❤❤❤
We need a deep dive on this movie
After watching wonka I felt like a kid again crazy how some movies can just transport you I kinda want them to make another one with him being in his late 20s to early 30s
I was surprised by how many actors were in both Paddington 2 and wonka
I will be seeing it again. Absolutely loved it and also almost cried at the end.
The stairs and the coin and the fact that he was doing the same thing Charlie’s mom had to do (laundry stirring) got me crying honestly. Such a good movie
I love how everyone was surprised that Wonka was a musical, but you SEE the choreography in the trailer
I just thought some songs was not needed.
Bruh the original with Gene Wilder was a musical of course this was gunna be a musical.
@@tylerconway9941 Okay, I was discussing this with a friend, is it REALLY a musical? Like it has musical numbers, sure, but it doesn’t feel like one to me.
@@eqWillibrium Ya I feel like they tried making it a musical in the first half of the movie but then it quickly died down.
As if the other Charlie and the chocolate factory adaptations aren’t musicals too
I have a feeling that he got inspired of stirring his chocolate by waterfall from the fountain of chocolate. Could be reaching.
Love getting these movie info vids from Jessica!
Wonka is a Wizarding World movie no on can change my mind. There are SO many Easter eggs
OH I REALLY LOVE THAT DONT I OH WOW in my head canon just down the lane is a Honeyduke's and they don't compete but collab
You said everything I thought about this movie. ❤ I loved it and plan on going to see it again.
I'm right there with you Jessica this movie is so wholesome and feel good. The end scenes make me cry my eyes out but they get me right in the heart. The songs are so catchy and awesome.
Not that it’s relevant, but I think Timothy could’ve pulled it off. If Crispin Glover can do the iconic roll and land it than so can Timothy.
Crispin Glover played a parody of Willy Wonka in the film Epic Movie.
He did a lot of nods to Gene, but I'm glad he didn't do the roll. That was Gene's idea and for me, it feels distinctly important to that film.
I love this film so much! Timothee chalame did an excellent job on his singing!
Jessica made me want to see this movie❤so much
Love your review... Love Wonka and Chalamet
Am I the only person who’s ever watched horrible histories? Nostalgias A Helluva Druug
I’ve been catching up on it in Hulu. I was hoping to spot Jim, Martha, Laurence, and Ben, too! 🙂
This movie was incredible. Thanks for the video! Good Day!
I watched it twice too! And I honestly think I'm going to watch it one more time before it leaves theaters 😆
I loved it so much!!! Watched it twice. Have the soundtrack memorized!!!
I loved this movie 😊😢❤
loved your commentary on the movie! Great recap with of amazing energy, well done!!!!
The sharing chocolate scene is a reference to Charlie sharing his only bar with his family.
This film was so wonderful.
On the roof when Willy and Noodle are dancing, Willy kicks his leg the same way that Gene Wilder did in the original. Near the end, the police chief's belt breaks in a very similar way to Violet's belt in the original.
I love you… I love your energy… I love your intelligent & on-point reviews. Thank you!
best review for Wonka!
I really like your videos, I did not realize about some references so thank you... I loved the movie since the beginning until the end when the oompa loompa takes the flower yellow cup
I cried at the end
Timothy was a charming chap mate
Loved this movie! A worthy addition to the franchise!
Ah thanks for these. Too many that I didn't catch. Need to watch it again
saw this in a theater with 4DX, applied. Highly recomment.
I had no interest in seeing it because I love Wilder Wonka, but I loved this film. Chalamet did great. The whole cast did great! People in my theater lingered because we wanted to stay on that world.
My mom loved candy, and would always share it with us. this movie made me cry too.
“I said good day!”. 😂 You’re the best! Love that you had tears
I LOVED this movie
I don't know, I struggled with "magic" in this movie. In the original the "magic" is implied but never directly shown.
In this movie Wonka openly uses "magic" at times, and other times not. I'm not trying to get scientific about "magic" but this movie had massive holes in it when Wonka just decided to not use his "magic" at times when it was sorely needed, which again is openly used in this movie, at times.
Overall I liked it, but could of waited until the digital release to enjoy it at home.
No he used a lot of magic in the original and in the book
@@lynettebr I never read the book, but thinking about the original movie and even the elevator at the end... yep magic involved but its not explained, just implied that obviously an elevator can't fly but they are flying in an elevator. I can't think of any instance that didn't involve candy which was designed to have certain side effects, where weird or "magical" things were happinging. All the bad kids had things happen to them because of candy which again, was designed to have the side effects it had, and in no way magical. If there are cases in the orignal movie you can share with me I would love to hear it!
I saw Wonka today and was blown away!
Its still hard for me to believe that he went from kind, loving, and caring to rude and uncaring..
Went and watched it last friday. It was excellent! 😊
I have now watched this movie 3x now. An Timothèe did the walk up and down the stairs twice in the movie, once in the opening and again in the the song "in a world of our own"
Wonka is wonderful.I have been a since I read this book as a child. 63 now. What are Eastereghs?
I love how Hugh grant just plays himself in the movie.
In every movie. Lol
Best part is its a musical!!!❤❤❤
same that's what I loved infact that's what made me want to the watch the movie because I love musicals. I knew this movie was musical months before watching the movie because I typed this movie on Google during the summer 2023 and it said musical/fantasy
I just watched it and loved it. brought out my inner child
So excited for this movie
Timothy was amazing to me!! I absolutely loved the movie
I absolutely loved this movie 🥰
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this or if it's just me but 4:44 I feel like the opposition guys are representing the 3 most basic chocolate types; blue = dark choc, green = mint choc, and yellow = white choc. They sort of have the characteristics of them too. Being blunt and bitter, fun and sarcastic, innocent and oblivious...
Unless its just me.. 😅
I could be wrong, but did I see the hover chocks pause in mid-air in the shape of the Wonka 'W' ?
Timmy is amazing in this movie
In the vault, I noticed servers. There’s something deliberate done to make sure this film won’t be pinned down to a specific time. Additionally, I spotted French, German, English, and Latin text throughout, making difficult to nail down a geographic setting also.
I think the German, English and American blend helps link the movie to the 1971 film, filmed in Germany with Anglo/American actors
Was very hesitant to watch this movie since it came out, decided to watch it with my mom and instant tears with the opening song
In the background of a scene in the original film a sign says fickelgruber
Omg it was amazing
Def want to see it again!
Like to see them make Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Instead of making it a prequel, make its own separate trilogy.
I feel loke this prequel was good idea cause we have young willy wonka as a protagonist
Well done! Loved the video!
Thankyou for the information so interesting and detailed I did pick out about three quarter's of what you talked about in Wonker compared to Willy Wonker And The Chocolate Factory I LOVED It went in with Mediocre expectations and was blown away very cleverly written and the SONG'S and Choreography curiography WOW Merry Christmas baci x
This is a good movie that i will be watching again.
I found a reference to Harry Potter in this one and it's about the villains they were wearing green blue and yellow which are colors for ravenclaw Slytherin and Hufflepuff and I think they acted like all of those they were wearing all the colors they were wearing so I just once put that out if you didn't notice that so I hope you find that helpful and that's it.
I see why he made so much trick candy now 😂 the fizzy drink was made for your enemies but it was probably way to powerful to be sold in mass production
I really want to see Wonka!
