Plant meant America "got it's own punk"in that the music from the streets finally broke through to the mainstream and created a social and cultural revolution with it like punk had in England years before. Trust me, Zeppelin were aware of punk and new wave in America. Plant's knowledge of pop music history is enclyclopedic.

I didn't say NOBODY liked the Ramones, but the fact is, in the big picture, nobody liked the Ramones. They were a niche band with a small group of hardcore fans, that's it. Nirvana kicked their ass in every way possible.

And still said to be the nicest, sincere person, with an incredible talent. Give the man his jaded edge he was a badass through and through. Heroine and fame is your common thread I suspect that is what they are drawing their views from.

The whole stereotypical glamour and style that surrounded Punk was probably influenced more by the sex pistols than any other punk band of the seventies but yeah I agree that America started Punk and Britain caught on. Nirvana was big in America but they were put on the same pedestal as the Beatles in England before nevermind was released in Sept 91, it wasn't until nevermind that Nirvana were the biggest thing since Elvis in America
I agree with a lot of what they say, but I wish people wouldn't perpetuate the idea that Nirvana created something new. They didn't. They are one of my favorite bands, they became so big because they did the important things so well - his songwriting was as good as anyone. There is nothing new to be created with guitars and drums, everything has been done, and if you think it hasn't, you don't know music. Listen to Captain Beefheart, The Shaggs, etc.

All of the original UK punk bands have stated that they all formed or started playing that kind of music after the Ramones played in London. Suicide, Heartbreakers, Patti Smith, Ramones, Talking Heads, etc. were all playing at CBGB and Max’s Kansas City in 1974 before Sex Pistols, Clash, Damned, or Buzzcocks even existed yet. Not to mention Velvet Underground, MC5, Stooges, NY Dolls, etc. who were punk bands before the term even existed. The original British punk bands were arguably more immediately influential on future music than the American ones were (outside of Ramones). But to say the US “finally got their punk” is like saying the US “finally got their blues after Cream”. 🤦♂️

Nirvana were influential because they came along with the right sound at the right time. But musically, they're one of the most overrated bands in history, and Cobain doesn't deserve the accolades he gets for tossing his life away to drugs and ultimately suicide
Some people get their panties in a bunch when someone tells them the truth. I love Nirvana but you're absolutely correct. My relationship with them is not so much the quality of music but the connection to Kurt himself. I'm sure a lot of his fans even now like them for that reason. Countless people thank them for saving their life so yes I can understand why people love them so much. But yes I wouldn't exactly call them musical geniuses.

All of the original UK punk bands have stated that they all formed or started playing that kind of music after the Ramones played in London. Suicide, Heartbreakers, Patti Smith, Ramones, Talking Heads, etc. were all playing at CBGB and Max’s Kansas City in 1974 before Sex Pistols, Clash, Damned, or Buzzcocks even existed yet. Not to mention Velvet Underground, MC5, Stooges, NY Dolls, etc. who were punk bands before the term even existed.
The original British punk bands were arguably more immediately influential on future music than the American ones were (outside of Ramones). But to say the US “finally got their punk” is like saying the US “finally got their blues after Cream”. 🤦♂️

I did watch it & like a lot of things out there your getting one perspective. They twist things a little bit & it does seem convincing. I thought maybe she did it.. In the 3 1/2 years he was in the spotlight he mentioned so many times about being suicidal in songs & interviews. He spoke in a lot of half truths even when he said he was being sarcastic. So I'm not going to jump on the Courtney definitely did it bandwagon.

You, me, or anyone else that did not know the man has absolutely no right whatsoever to suggest he was “happy” or “okay” therefore couldn’t have been depressed and killed himself. He openly talked about depression, his addiction, and had a cynical outlook on a lot of things. Lots and lots of people suffer from addiction and depression and unfortunately lots of people kill themselves every day….
Speaking from experience, I was a depressed IV heroin addict and I was a touring drummer in a band living my dream for many, many years. People thought I was okay all the time. The truth was I was extremely addicted to heroin, hated my life, and did not care if I lived or died. But I never fucking let anyone know that. In fact I projected the opposite. People that are depressed often portray themselves as being okay or happy, it’s extremely common. The facts are, again no one truly knows what someone is going through, even if they’re your family, best friend, spouse, whatever…let alone someone with the egregious amount of pressure this man was dealing with. It’s pretty disrespectful for you to project completely baseless conjecture about this man’s passing…in fact it’s crazy. Did you ever stop to consider the only person to profit from that theory is the fucking detective and director of the film?? Huh how convenient. If Courtney had anything to do with his death, his family, band mates and friends would never Fucking get on stage with the woman or associate with her…yet they still do. Sure they probably don’t like her. She probably wasn’t a good influence for him. But he was a grown man and made his own decisions. She didn’t fucking kill him. You need to accept that.

Nirvana were influential because they came along with the right sound at the right time. But musically, they're one of the most overrated bands in history, and Cobain doesn't deserve the accolades he gets for tossing his life away to drugs and ultimately suicide

Some people get their panties in a bunch when someone tells them the truth. I love Nirvana but you're absolutely correct. My relationship with them is not so much the quality of music but the connection to Kurt himself. I'm sure a lot of his fans even now like them for that reason. Countless people thank them for saving their life so yes I can understand why people love them so much. But yes I wouldn't exactly call them musical geniuses.
