- In high dirty water at the Home Pool of Larry's Gulch, I manage to hook a large Atlantic salmon that will eventually break my 9 ft. Orvis Zero Gravity rod...a first rod break for me ! Check out my channel for more salmon related content and subscribe.

Top quality stuff! I'm very impressed by the calmness involved here... 👍👍👍
Great job Mike!!
I was like f yeah I'll whatch that! Lol
Well held sirs!!. Great fish, really sorry about the rod and camera, lovely river though- a small compensation for you, tight lines from UK. Cheers!!.
I had 2 orvis clearwater 10' #6 rods break on me. The 1st one broke, after a light tug, to free a fly caught in an anchor rope. Catastrophic failure, the rod shattered in 3 places. The 2nd one broke at the tip,I tested the tip close to the break and it snapped like a tooth pick, zero tensile strength. It is not the angler,it is the rod!
That was awesome. Like someone else said, how everyone stayed calm came up with a plan was wicked! Cool under pressure. A memory that'll last forever. Tight lines indeed!
I will always remember this salmon jamie! Tight lines as well!
Well done, beautiful to see a specimen fish go back unharmed
Cooler heads prevailed, congratulations.
Wow! That’s brutal.. although, beautiful fish to snap on 😂. I snapped a rod on a chum! The story doesn’t get told often hahah
Fantastic rod, lol
That looks like a small 10Ib Salmon we catch here in Scotland on River Clyde! 😂
wow... I snapped a 9' 8wt rod on a chum Salmon on Vancouver Island once... I dream to fish the Restigouche one day.
That’s a nice fish. No better way to break a rod 😅
I think the rod broke because you hadnt pushed the rod together properly or it had slightly worked loose while casting
@andyp9678 That was the first thing I checked...I looked at all the connections and they were all seated properly and completely. We all have a loose connection off and on and in the boat I was convinced I either had a partially seated butt to 3rd piece connection or I had "over dragged" him...the latter was the cause. Mike
Drag was way too TIGHT!!
Should have loosened up drag and let that Salmon run more to tire out
If the drag is too tight the leader/tippet snaps, not the rod.
Snapped rods = amateur stuff!!
Loose drag 1st then tighten as fight commences lol
Happened to me to rod broke
The fish didn’t break the rod you did. You held the rod too high. The rod can only bend so much.
Thats rough. I once snapped a rod. Here in prince edward island, we get large sea bass from the miramichi and was fishing with a 4wt rod. Was hoping for a nice trout but as soon as I saw the bass surface and took my fly, the rod snapped like a twig. Stupid me got angry i threw the butt end down. The rod was cheap but the reel wasnt. Lets just say i lost a whole setup
Check out Lehigh fishing company. Custom rod manufacturer American made 🇺🇸👍
I heard a rod snap on the Chilkoot River in AK. Salmon fishing. It sounded like a .22 going off. I looked around and saw the guy with his broken rod HANDLINING the fish in. A big king, I think. All I a saw of the fish was its head in the guy's hand as he drug it to shore with his broken rod in his other hand. A BIG head!
