  • Dingwall and district angling club is my local club on the lower River Conon. On the 27th April club member Brian Morrison not only landed his first salmon on the fly but smashed the club record with a thumping 28.5lb springer. Unfortunately i was not there to witness it but other club members passed me some of the footage....what a story and what fish !!

Great fish landed mate to have a fish that big on your line for that long is a remarkable achievement as they say a fish of a life time . Tight lines. Laurie from downunder.

Thought at first is was a Tuna, some fish Brian, ide say inside the heart rate was in the red. Yes 1st salmon on the fly we all remember regardless of size big or small, but 28.5lb, my PB salmon/grilse is 6lb, one can only dream of a fish over 10lb let alone that size. I agree though on one point (only a niggle), weighing, pics, recovery etc etc of a fish that size should of been kept in the shallow water but hey excitement and adrenalin is so powerful.

Sometimes excitement gets the better of an angler with a fish of a lifetime and handling does not go as planned, in my day from the 1970's - till late 1990's this Salmon would have been in the freezer or sold to nearest Hotel to help finance our next Salmon Fishing permit/trip.

Thats a reasonable point, he is a novice salmon angler though with his first fish. I am sure thats something he will pickup on going forward.
