    We are grinning ear to ear for you guys. You did it! We wouldn't have wanted to leave that spot either. So epic! Good thing you guys noticed the tide coming in. Just Alaska reminding you what a wild ride you're in for. This is just going to get better. Wahooooo guys!!!

    The scenery there is breathtaking! That camping spot was epic! But I was taken by surprise with the tide surge! Now that is something that would shake you up. I can imagine how y'all felt! Good thing you got that gentle reminder of how unexpected nature can be. Looking forward to every bit of this trip. Enjoy the journey and stay safe y'all!

    Alrighty then! You guys certainly are not starting out conservatively in Alaska. "Looks OK from here." Famous last words. I'm glad you decided to walk it.

    Thanks guys - Lots of useful info here. We are coming up in a few weeks and also traveling up the Cassiar and staying in Hyder. I did read the warnings about camping near the shores but thank you for reminding us - probably would have forgotten by then. Great job on this and we will be following your progress. Safe travels!

    Thanks again for more of your great drone work Dave. Awesome is an overused word these days, but that glacier overhead really was awesome! Really glad the tidal experience turned out OK. Lessons learned.

    You guys weren't kidding when you said you all were going to Alaska to make some memories! And didn't waste any time doing so. Lol Glad everyone was able to get back far enough. I had a similar situation camping with about 20 others on the Ohoopee river. It was more like a mad dash to dry ground lol. Earrrly one morning the county upstream got hammered with rain and made the water rise 2 feet over our access road and camp in a matter of a few hours. We were lucky to get all the campers pulled to safety.

    We were there in late August and got to watch a young grizzly at Fish Creek. But I’m amazed at how many bears you’ve seen so far on your trip. I’m not sure if we saw that many on our entire Alaska trip. So you’ve been lucky!

    You two are awesome. I would never attempt a trip like this unless with a group. I am assuming you are the team leader. You are cautious but take some risk, at least risk i would be comfortable with. Am enjoying your travels to Alaska and thanks for bringing us along. BTW, what speed were you going on those potholed roads? This is wonderful.

    • @oneadVANtureatatime
      @oneadVANtureatatime  День тому

      +@mikefarrell5996 a little risk is exciting but a risk that changes your lives (not for the good) or causes major damage…… not so much fun!
      Dave says we were driving about 15mph. This will change for each person. How well your suspension is, how heavy you are, how bad the road is, how good are your tires…..ect. The key is finding “your” sweet spot. If it is REALLY BAD…. Airing down your tires will also help.

    Brown bears are not the same as grizzlies…..

    • @oneadVANtureatatime
      @oneadVANtureatatime  День тому

      +@TP-es1pf Those that live in coastal areas of Alaska are called brown bears, while typically inland bears that have limited or no access to marine-derived food resources are often smaller and called grizzlies. Both have the same distinctive body shape described below. Distinctive shoulder hump. Rump is lower than shoulder hump….. according to the National Park Website.
      Seems like they are pretty much the same to me…. Just eating different food🤷‍♀️

    • @TP-es1pf
      @TP-es1pf День тому

      @@oneadVANtureatatime well several google sites would beg to differ …. I suspect US and Canada differ in their names, grizzlies are much larger and very unpredictable. Brown bears are big black bears in nature. Hope you don’t meet one either way….😁
