*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Welcome to the area I grew up in. I'm from Steamboat, but we spent a lot of time in the Flat Tops (to the north) and that area. Glad to see a van lifer in the Northwest part of CO, my favorite part. We might drive up and visit you this summer.

Currently in Georgia for about 4 more weeks, then heading to Colorado myself. I so miss it! Congrats Brian !
If you are commuting to and from Rifle and Meeker or Meeker to Craig on 13 be aware lots of deer and elk on road. Also ranchers move herds of cattle and sheep on 13. They want you to keep moving at a crawl to get thru it. If you stop it confuses the animals. Lived there for 6 years in the 90s
what are all the bugs on the hwy? Looks like reddish giant crickets or something. There was a caution sign saying the road is slippery due to all the squashed bugs. Literally millions on them!!! And the smell!
@@AdventureVanMan not sure but there are lots of bugs especially in the spring and summer. Love that area though!

@@AdventureVanMan I don't know if they have moved that far east, but I know Nevada and Utah are full of Mormon crickets. That sounds like them.

I imagine you'll shop in Craig. I lived there 10 years, until 2 years ago. Drove and fished all over that area. The burger joint in meeker is pretty good. The old hotel is worth visiting, the elk and deer mounts are old and impressive. The history of it is interesting.

I spent 2 nights in Leadville 2019 at an RV park since I had to do laundry. I also got a pizza at Mountain High Pies and wrote in my camping journal "good pizza"

If you get Colorado plates for your vehicles, they will charge you $500 just for the trailer.
I don't think CO is nomad friendly for residency.

A young lady I watch on YT is also a campground host in the mtns of CO, she got hired on the spot, too, and had to make a quick trip from AZ to CO. She is 40 miles from a town, at 10,500' elevation. She says the hardest part is kicking people out! Looks like a perfect location to have some down time and enjoy the sounds of the forest.
Colorado is one of the most beautiful states. IMHO.👍🏻

Congrats on camphosting. We camp hosted for 6 years when we decided to live the Nomad life. I’ve made best friends to this day meeting people through camp hosting. On the flip side you will see the craziest things campers can do while camphosting. Good luck to you brother.

I’m living over in Steamboat for 30 years now…used to ride my dirtbike to meeker on that flattops scenic byway road…75 miles one way…Aspen groves the whole way…amazing country…would live to camp host up in the flattops

Are you going to look into using the river for drinking water so you don't have to haul from town? What would you do to make it potable?

looking at that place on google maps it does look really remote! street view has a bunch of "photo spheres" for the camp down the road by the lake but there's zero where you are. looking forward to seeing the campground in your upcoming videos!
