    Good video. Only problem with mounting it on the side with the bottom combustion/exhaust coming out the side of the case is that your fuel line is now exposed.

      Hey Ryan, That's true. I'm looking into accessing the fuel tube from inside the burner unit. We'll see, Thanks. Cheers.

    Ive been thinking of building one also. Be careful changing the duct size from 4” to 3”. That will drop the area of the duct around 40%.
    That is a large drop in airflow. The heaters are engineered to work efficiently at a particular airflow setting. Dropping the airflow that much will significantly affect its efficiency, operation and safety. It will probably create more heat inside the unit which will also affect its components. If you want smaller duct, it would be better to get a smaller heater.
    Thanks for making your videos

    Hey Dino! I just picked up a Vevor 5kw diesel heater off Amazon. It's self contained in a red metal box. I think it is fine for now but after watching your video for ideas I might be looking for a box that I can semi-permanently mount on the Gobi roof rack. Then the flex hose could hang down to the window rather than be pulled up to it. Obviously there's some drawbacks- biggest one is getting up on the rack to open the case for set up. Still working on it! What did you use for your window filler? I have seen other guys that set up the heater box on a "folding tire step" that slips over the rear tire to keep it off the ground. If someone has a diesel Jeep they can tap a line direct to the heater and not have to worry about carrying a portable tank.

      Hey Marcel,
      That sounds awesome!
      I eventually went with the material shown in this video.

      I connected the hose, fed on one side to the black plastic round vent caps on the other side. I hope that helps.
      Cheers and have fun.
      Be sure to have both an alarm and a monitor. Just to be extra safe.

    Interesting idea of putting the heater in the trunk space. Does drillling a whole for the exhaust ruin the vehhicle for resale? I'd assume it will not pass safety test in ontario for resale? Or to mechenaic not look for 2" holes in the trunk?

      Good questions. I’m think if it was an issue, the hole could be sealed up?

    I’d be concerned with fuel inside the case. You mentioned the situation if you lose electrical power, that there is the potential serious heat build up, and with fuel in there, that could be a pretty bad situation. I think its useful to have the room to hold the fuel during transport, but you should pull fuel out of the case during usage. Just to be safe.

    I like the new external design , but I would keep the metal case in case of the heater failing and catching fire. Mounting it inside of the Jeep could be a little harder to seal out exhaust gas. I will be buying that digital carbon monoxide detector as a backup to my regular monoxide detector.

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Michael,
      To be clear, the regular ones are alarms. They go off after a certain amount of CO is detected. There could be a low level leak that you would not be able to see with those “Alarms”. The digital one is a “monitor” and it allows you to read even low levels. This way you can see if there is a low level leak far in advance of the alarm going off. I hope that helped. Cheers.

      The part two of this video has me talking about a new design for the window vents, because I moved away from the 4 inch, to the 3 inch ductwork. You can have a look at this.

    When you sleep in -20 c weather, do you crack the widows? Or is it not required with a diesel heater?

      There are lots of places for air to get in and out of a Jeep Wrangler, including the vent on the tailgate.
      When it isn’t severely cold, I draw fresh air into the heater and blow the warmed air into the Jeep. By default the existing air gets pushed out.
      I hope that helps.
      Cheers

    Why not recycle the heated air back into the fresh air intake. It is easier on the heater and fuel will last longer…

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  2 роки тому +1

      Hey BkackSheep Expedition, You certainly can do that. I just wanted to have fresh drier air blowing through the Jeep. Even with the controller set to Low, there still is ample heat for both the Jeep and tent. Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers.
